i effin rule
Shamrock got scratched earlier today because of a cut he got during training. Seth Petruzelli (who was suppose to fight on the undercard) was offered the spot and took it. He came out and KO'd Kimbo in literally about 15 seconds. I nearly didn't watch since Shamrock wasn't fighting, but that "what if" factor that I think a lot of people have about Kimbo's first loss was there, so I had to. Kimbo losing to such a small name certainly can not help them unless Petruzelli somehow goes off on a tear.
BIGJOSH
LOL Finally everyone can see that Kimbo is not a real MMA fighter! Kimbo was a circus freak simple as that!
BlizzardVeers
Haha. I laughed pretty loudly. Kimbo handled himself very well after the defeat. Seth has never been a top 10 guy, or even top 20. And he's not even in the same weightclass.. and uh. Yeah. Seth has always been a solid fighter, that's about it. I just lol'd so loudly though. Eisen-verse
wow.... I sat down expecting to see a fight and came away with a 15 second ass kickin'. haha. Kimbo just never got his feet underneath him. I knew he wasn't all that great but I wasn't expecting this!
grits207
That was funny as hell and was exactly what EliteXC deserved.
CQI13
I absolutely LOVED that. Kimbo was a great streetfighter. And nothing more. Sadly, we won't get to see Dana White embarrassing Kimbo all the way back to youtube (as he's stated in several interviews). Someone in XC already did that. SadisticBlessings
That was funny as hell and was exactly what EliteXC deserved.
Seconded. Putting an unproven fighter like Kimbo in the main events of their cards on network television was just begging for something like this to happen. Now that the bubble has burst, maybe we'll get to see some real fighters in the main events. The card itself, aside from the Kimbo freak show, wasn't bad, though. Radach vs. Rua was an exciting, back-and-forth brawl to start the night, Carano looked crisp against Kelly Kobald and showed impressive takedown defense while being bullied around by a superior grappler, both Nelson and AA had their moments in their fight, and Shields pretty much walked through Daley in the only boring fight of the evening. Now if only the lame ass Kimbo fight had been bumped and the Cyborg vs. Takahashi fight (which word has it tore the house down) had gotten televised, I'd give this card a thumbs up. As it is, though, two non-competitive fights to end the night left me with a bad taste in my mouth. And as a side note, did anyone else notice Jared Shaw freaking out and screaming at the referee when Kimbo went down? Incredibly unprofessional. For all the flack Dana catches, he's never reacted like that to a fight - not even when it's a friend who just got KTFO'd, like Chuck against Rashad. Here's a hint: if your business fails because an inexperienced brawler like Kimbo just got knocked out by a REAL fighter, it's not the ref's fault or Kimbo's fault, it's your fault for devoting the entire EliteXC hype machine to a guy without a single win over genuine competition.

Antithesis
Apparently the guy who beat Kimbo is saying an Elite XC promoter (forget the name) paid him more not to take Kimbo to the ground... if this true, and any kind of major news organization investigates and come up with proof, then Elite XC is done for. CQI13
Except they should have been investigated/done for after the Kimbo/Thompson fight that Kimbo won by way of dubious refereeing. http://mmascribe.com/2008/10/elitexc-shady-allegations/ There seems to be nothing to it. Except that XC has always been third rate. Self
This was the first MMA show I have ever made the effort to try and watch. I was purely drawn in by the Shamrock/Kimbo match, and although I was pretty gutted to find out it was off, I still enjoyed the hell out of it. I don't know what the consensus on EliteXC is, but I had a blast. I kept imagining what pro-wrestling would be like if it was more like this; long hypes followed by (fairly) decisive matches, and... I was genuinely excited at the start of every match (except the fourth, though that was due to burn out) and I can't remember that ever happening for me in wrestling. MMA may have just got a convert. What I liked was that I'm not 'smart' to this business. I didn't think about what was good for the company. I didn't think about 'protecting' or 'pushing'. I just had a choice of two people, picked who I wanted to win based on the videos, and watched. I wish I could do that with wrestling, but I'm too into the backstage stuff. I thought the finish to Radach/Rua was awesome. I'm happy Kobold put up the fight she did. I was gutted that "Big Country" and the English guy didn't win (In a good way) and... I was supporting Petrezelli. Big tough guys like Kimbo don't float my boat, similar to Batista and Undertaker. Seth was an underdog (as presented on the show) and had interesting hair. Instantly went in my good books. Seeing him win was great fun. Good show. It certainly got me into the fold. I hope EliteXC keeps on trucking a while longer. My only complaint was that, with 5 matches over 2 hours, it was a little long for me. I can rarely set aside that amount of time to watch things, and by match 4 I was pretty burned out. If there was an hour long, 3 match show, I would watch every episode.

chris caulfield
Self if you liked that EliteXC show you will definately like the UFC shows. Though at 3 hours and 5 matches long it might be to ong for you if you were burnt out at the fourth match of the EliteXC show.
Self
Sounds a bit long, but... I don't know. It may have been more the amount of matches than the show length. I think I would have liked some more build to the fights actually. Longer profiles on the combatants. Pre-fight interviews. Certain aspects of the show felt rushed. Perhaps spread over more time, 5 fights would be okay. I was definitely into things again by the Main Event, probably because it was the Main Event. Also, now that I think of it. I have no idea when the next EliteXC show is on, or who's fighting on it. I don't live in America, so I don't equal ratings, but... If I knew when it was on, and liked the idea of some of the fights, I would make a point of watching. I'm just sayin'. I'll experiment with some UFC at some point... Is Randy/Brock UFC? I'm totally looking forward to that (although I couldn't pick Randy out of a lineup at this point).

Brandon Vera is one of the top prospects against vetern and contender Keith Jardine... the main event is a middleweight contender bout between Chris Leben and Michael Bisping. Then the next Saturday the best fighter in the world pound for pound, Anderson Silva, defends the UFC Middleweight title against Patrick Cote -- Diego Sanchez vs. Thiago Alves (#2 Welterweight in the world) is on the undercard. He of course took me with him. 91 seconds later we were glad we hadn't "paid" to see the fight.
I got one better. My uncle had paid $15,000 each for a pair of tickets two rows off of ringside. He went to the bathroom during introductions and when he came out of the bathroom, people were filing out. I wish I was joking. $30k in '88 was a pretty sizable sum of money for most folks so to spend it on seats to a fight (mind you, that didn't include the airfare, hotel, meals and such. That was 30k just for the damn seats) was ridiculous. From that point on, my uncle wouldn't pay to see ANY sporting event live. Not the Eastern Conference playoffs (Bulls-Knicks), not the ALDS/ALCS/World Series (Yankees), nothing. He even passed on Subway Series tickets in 2000 (Yankees-Mets).
\ oh wow, you were there for that fight? haha. Wasn't that Tyson's "coming out of Prison" match? From what I remember he owned Spinks and laid him out in no time.
Uh no, Tyson was still very much "The Destroyer" when he faced Michael Spinks. Spinks was supposed to be the future of the heavyweight division, after stopping Larry Holmes twice (both decisions). So much for the future of the heavyweight division. Spinks was so absolutely demoralized, he retired immediately after Tyson rocked his knot.
Spinks was hardly a has-been at that point. Correction, Michael Spinks was 31-0 at the time http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=474&cat=boxer
Michael Spinks was never a has-been. He didn't have the time. As soon as Tyson obliterated him, he retired and never wanted to be seen inside a boxing ring again. That fight embarrassed him. Worst part of that is, that fight is now his legacy. All anyone will remember of Michael Spinks is him lying spread eagle near the ropes with Tyson standing near him with a left hand ****ed with Kevin Rooney shouting "4, 4, 7, 2". As for Kimbo, come on, did this surprise anyone, really? Now that he's lost, interest in him will wane and he'll go back to doing what he was doing. OR, he could go into training and become a true MMA fighter. Either one. But EliteXC's gravy train has come to an abrupt halt.
chris caulfield
The next big MMA card is UFC 89 on the 18th. The main event is Bisping vs. Leben. It's got some good fights on. Since you don't live in the UK it will be on Setanta Sports in the UK. Then one week later UFC 90 is on.
