waltwa
I am really interested in getting back to bowl bound. I went over some posts related to playcalling. I have had trouble with playcalling but i wonder if the game is really set up for a coach to call plays or simply let the computer handle it and watch the game unfold. This means that the real function of the coach is to spend time making sure you are recruiting well and taking care of the off field aspects of the team. this is no problem i am content to sit back and watch the game unfold and maybe once in a great while step in and call a defense or play. Is this the best way to go to enjoy the game?
wareagle
I actually like doing it all,....spending the in depth time recruiting, once season begins spending the in depth time studying opponent to put together the game paln, and finally calling all the plays. I think if you really get to know your players (ratings wise) and know their strengths, game plan these on your opponents weaknesses you can have success playcalling. Dave Hansen
I do everything myself...all aspects of the game to include calling all my plays. I never ask for play calling suggestions. Ditto wareagle's comments. I pay very close attention to player's durability and work ethic ratings. Also, pay close attention to the PBP and offensive/defensive post game comments regarding GP, MT, BPA, OOP, etc. Really helps the understanding of why plays are successful or not. Helps in evaluating players...frosh make more mistakes...seniors make more positive plays. I enjoy juggling trying to win vs. giving playing time to my 5 star DT (and other FR/SOPH) who has a very high rating for transferring if not happy. Recruiting is a game within the game! Time, study and effort here ALWAYS yields better results than letting the AI handle this aspect.
Greendiver
I spend sometime setting up the playbooks and gameplans on offense and defense at the beginning of the season for my team and then tweak them each game. I call all plays during the game, but hit the suggest button on almost every play and then decide whether to go with the play. I consider it the OC and DC giving me suggestions in my headset, but I end up calling something different about 33% of the time. By setting the playbooks, however, I feel like the playcalls are guiding me to run the team within the gameplan I established before kickoff. I find it a nice combination of pregame planning and in game decisions.

Buffalo2006
I do it all. I call my own plays, which does take some learning, especially the running game. Once I stopped trying to fit my team into a gameplan and instead made a gameplan that fit my team, things turned for the better. Calling plays is what I believe will seperate your team from the pack. My first year as coach of the Buffalo Bulls was a learning process, going 5-7 overall, 3-5 in conference. But I learned to coach that season. Here I am finishing my second season, winning the conference at 6-2 and going 9-5 overall including a very close loss to Maryland in the Motor City Bowl. I was nowhere near being ranked, but a much improved team and a conference champion.
