Pre-select venues for PPV or Big Events

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow TEW 08 Users: Consider this for next update. Most wrestling feds in North America that I am aware of announce their events in advance as well as sell tickets. I was just running a Cornell-verse year with the CWWF in current Oct 08 time. When I got to my Big monthly show, just as expected, I was able to select the venue the same time as I did booking "October Surprise". Now, there is nothing wrong with it as far as the game aspects, but wouldn't it be better to announce the venue and have it selected months in advance? After all, don't we already have the shows scheduled out anyway. Why can't we schedule the venue ahead of time too? For example, everybody knows where Wrestlemania 25 is going to be. They announced it a year in advance. This gives them time to create hype and increase ticket sales.

I forget the specific issues but Adam tells us it makes things awkward...

But then things like WM7 could still happen, where they mentioned on WM6 that it would be in the LA Coliseum, but later changed to the LA Sports Arena. There would have to be penalties for not having it take place at the advertised venue (maybe you dropped in size/went up in size and that venue is no longer acceptable).

It all comes to to simulated accuracy and micro management vs playability. It might be nice to have everything be accurate and to hype things up ahead of time but not everyone wants to do that. Rather than add what would basically be an extra step that offers little to no reward it is simply easier to choose a venue on the day and assume that the hype campaign was building to that all along. One thing that a lot of other people often overlook too is the effect that advanced booking like that would have every time you begin a game. I doubt many mod makers want to add future event locations into their data which is something that would have to be done if advanced booking of venues made it into the game.

If it's just micromanagement for the sake of realism it doesn't need to be added. If it became part of the game's strategy then it could be a quite interesting addition. Do you book a location well ahead of time to increase ticket sales, leaving yourself with less flexibility if something happens to a worker or another promotion chooses the same day to hold an event? Or do you wait until a week before to book the venue to make sure all your workers are available and risk losing the venue to someone else? Of course TEW is more a wrestling booking sim than a wrestling business sim, so I could understand why this would be a feature that doesn't make it in. Though with new contract negotiations, regional importance, national battles, and backstage politics the boardroom is becoming as important as the in-ring action.
