HGC has been open for 1 month but has yet to crown any champions and they are the main threat to the SWF's dominance as the world's #1 promotion, a position the SWF have held for over a decade. Also in the US is a battle for supremacy on the east coast as four promotions war with each other. Each of the 4 promotions (DAVE, PPPW, RPW and XFW) have their own distinct style and their own stars, but even if they can defeat each other they have to look out for talent raids from the major promotions in the area. Other small promotions in the area include the bastion of old school wrestling NYCW, the fast paced modern warriors of CZCW with their highly respected King of the Indys Tournament and lastly AMW, a crash TV promotion from Texas who seem doomed to failure.. not that their roster will mind as their founders will be glad to be free of Trenton Evenrud and be allowed back onto the indy scene. In Canada there are only two real promotions, each with their own family of stars that form the basis of each promotions' main event. CGC has the DeColt family and put out a more entertainment based product than their rivals, with the main threats to the DeColt boys being Eric Tyler's School of Tradition. Meanwhile in NOTBPW, the Stone family have recently debuted their own women's division thanks to Victoria Stone and have yet to crown their first champion. The Stone boys also face competition from the likes of RK Hayes, Craig Prince and Dark Angel giving them a diverse range of opponents to compete against for the Canadian championship. The recent emergence of 4C has seen the tiny upstarts put on a couple of noteworthy shows but their underground appeal may make it difficult for them to ever break into the mainstream like the DeColts and Stones have done. In Japan the juggernaut of profits is still BHOTWG who are building up their World Champion Tadiyuki Kikkawa into an unbeatable juggernaut in his own right, although their heavyweight division is relatively weak compared to just 5 years ago as many of their top names are closing in on retirement. However, what their Heavyweight division may lack their Junior division more than makes up for as it sparkles with stars from around the world. Elemental I and II, Optimus, Black Cobra (Duane Stone), The Awesome Kiyaru, The Rebellion, Oniji Takashiita, Edo Phoenix and Junior champion Naoya Ashikaga are just some of the stars that wow the crowds on every show. The main story in Japan right now though is PGHW, who in their short time since opening have taken heavyweight wrestling by storm thanks to Sadaharu Jimbo, his friends and a group of students that have shown a work ethic unmatched by any group in history. If PGHW continue to showcase such great heavyweight wrestling in 1997 as they did last year then they may just manage to become the biggest promotion in Japan and overthrow BHOTWG from their position of dominance. As for GCG... they seem to be coming out of their slump slowly but surely and are starting to reassamble a roster of workers. With so few workers willing to be loyal to the company the burden of responsibilty remains on the shoulders of Yoshifusa Maeda and Kazu Yoshizawa, the GCG loyalists who have remained with the company for over 20 years throughout the hard times. The lucha libre scene in Mexico is very much on a downturn as 1997 rolls in but there are signs that things are about to change. With the likes of Bairei Yasujiro and The Awesome Kiyaru returning to Japan, Mr Lucha and Electrico trying to break America and many veteran stars retiring it is almost time for a new wave of workers to take lucha libre by storm. Heading this revolution are talents like Pablo Rodriguez, El Bandito, Marcos Flores, El Demonio, Soul Taker, Axxis Jr and El Critico... and big things are expected from all of these men over the next few years. The UK has been known more for it's exports than it's wrestling scene, with only MOSC being worth mentioning about in terms of what the UK offers to pro wrestling. Always known for having a wrestling culture all of it's own, the UK certainly has enough active wrestlers to warrant another promotion but whether there is enough fan interest or not is the key factor. Europe is still a continent divided and wrestling has yet to really take off in any way yet. There are a number of wrestlers working small indepenent shows across the continent though, and it seems like it should only be a matter of time before someone tries to open up a full time promotion somewhere. Australia... homeland of SWF stars Bruce the Giant and The Outbackers. But what of the other wrestlers who call the southern hemisphere home? There are a number of talented workers on the continent and... some less than talented workers. Travel has always been an issue on the Australian mainland but there are independent shows all year round and a number of competitors make some money as a result. Whether the scene is strong enough to support a full time promotion is debatable but there are certainly some fans calling for one. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS This download should be about 8.3Mb in size. This zip comes with the datafiles you need in order to play the game, worker pictures so that all the workers (almost!) have pictures in the game and logos for almost all of the promotions in the game. Simply unzip the contents of the Cverse97.zip folder (the file you download) and this will give you a folder called 'Cverse97'. Cut->Paste this folder into the data folder of TEW08 (next to Default and whatever other databases you may have)... ... inside the 'Cverse97' are two more folders (4 in total) called 'People 1997' and 'Logos 1997'. The contents of "People 1997" should be moved into the TEW2008->Pictures->Default->People folder alongside all the default pictures as great care has been taken to ensure that the default picture set will work with this dataset. The extra pictures are simply for the extra workers needed in order to make the dataset a complete and playable game world. Similarly, move the contents of "Logos 1997" into the TEW2008->Pictures->Default->Logos folder. When asked if you want to replace any existing logos you can say "yes to all". I included all the default logos with the data as they look better now that the size of logos has changed from 100*100 to 150*150, but all the old logos have been included here in case you prefer them. Remember to change database to the Cverse97 in order to play this data. You may need to go to the main editor from the Opening Screen->Editor->Edit Database->Database Info in order to make sure the game is looking at the right worker for picture files. Make sure the Picture Folder is set to "Default" and everything should now be perfect for you to play. WITH THANKS TO.... First of all, to Adam Ryland for making such a great game and for allowing me on his testing team. It's been great to be able to help in the creation of the game and to help guide the development of the game as a whole. Without him there would be no TEW series, no EWR before that and no EWD, EW9000 or simply EW. Thanks for all your hard work over the years and I bet you can't believe your computing project from so many years ago would be your job today. Thank you. Thanks also to the team behind the Cornellverse 1975 for their fantastic data and for allowing me to incorporate it into my own. You guys put so much time and effort into creating the 1975 version of the Cornellverse with so little to base it off. As a fellow mod maker I love what you've done with it and appreciate all the work that goes into creating the hundreds of characters you made to flesh out Cornellverse history. Thank you all! Thank you to Scapino for his SWF and MWA diaries, even if I haven't been able to keep up with them. If it weren't for you Big Smack Scott might not have a home in 1997 and it's still an honour to have your characters living in this dataset. And lastly, thanks to everyone else for reading this, downloading this data and giving it a try. I only made this data to give me something to do but thanks to you all for your comments regarding the original release of the 1997 data. I never thought many of you would play my dataset so to have any kind words back from you, let alone the many I received means so much. I just hope this update keeps you playing even longer and that it's even harder than it was before. Yeah... harder! Good luck taking HGC to National before your main event's contracts expire, it's a real challenge but it's not impossible. :)
FINisher
Awesome. I'm so glad you're back. :) I'm so intriqued on starting a diary with GCG..
Derek B
:D There are still things to be done to make it perfect but it's more than playable as it is. I've tweaked a few things based on feedback from previous versions and cleaned up the odd typo here and there whenever I saw them. About 20 workers don't currently have pictures but I'm going to get to that as and when I have things in order. Hopefully I can get a few people to render me up a few things. :) The logos for many promotions will still look weird as they are all 100*100 instead of the new 150*150 but I'm hoping to get some help on that too... or maybe I'll make a few attempts to put something together for those myself if I can. As always I appreciate all feedback. Anything can be improved but ultimately I'm hoping for this dataset to be tough but fun. :D
pat21532
i'm following your directions but i'm stuck. i extracted the file and when i go to copy and paste the folder i only have the default folder and not the data one.
Derek B
You might need to elaborate a little more. When you extract the files you should have a folder called "Cverse97". Copy and paste that folder into your TEW08->Data folder (there should be a folder called "Default" in there already). Then go into the "Cverse97" folder and follow the instructions on where to move the contents of the "Logos 1997" and "People 1997" folders. Shouldn't be too hard but I have a bad habit of taking things for granted once I've done them a million times. :)

shamelessposer
A couple things I've noticed: Chris Morrisette's "Lobster Man" alter ego is listed twice. Troy Tornado has a "Goth" gimmick that really, really doesn't fit his picture. It seems weird since he has at least one picture that's better suited for that gimmick. FINisher
.. And there's bunch of small typos here and there. I'll report when I see them. :) Thank you derek_b once again for the effort. paulskln
does anyone have renders that they use for the people in this wonderful data...i would be grateful if you could post them thanks.
Derek B
Almost all the workers have pictures already, there are just 25 left without pictures at this time and most of them are my own additions that I just couldn't find a picture I liked enough for them. The rest are just guys from the 1975 dataset that I didn't have pictures for on my computer, seems I'm missing some so I'm off to go get them now... sometime over the next few days I'm going to get down to trying to get pictures for the rest of the guys... And then maybe get down to working on logos... And then maybe sort those pesky typos if anyone can point them out to me. I've read through so many profiles generally that I generally don't read them any more. And then who knows? I might start working on a little something else. ;)

Comradebot
You didn't include the workers from the most recent 2008 update... importing them in all tends to bring in duplicates of people in the database. Not a huge issue, but leads to me having to weed out all the unwanted folks. Also, Vengeance and Mayan Idol (and I think BSS too) have the wrong birth dates... Vengeance was actually born in 1971 and Mayan Idol in 1972.
Derek B
I can honestly say I didn't even know there was an update to the data since release. I checked on the Cornellverse website and it doesn't have any updated datafiles there so I assumed there wasn't any. Even after downloading the picture files and the like I didn't see any new workers, only some alt pics for existing people... unless of course I totally messed up somewhere. After looking through the site I'm downloading the full 87Mb download just to get a couple of MB of files... Adam, I know you read everything! PLEASE upload the Cornellverse datafiles to the Cornellverse website. Pwease!! :)
Derek B
Just had a quick look through things and I can't see many people missing. I know that I haven't bothered with some of the managers and stuff as in the original database I deliberately left some out because of how unlikely they would be to ever be used. But as for other people missing I can't see any glaring omissions as the files I just downloaded have the same number of workers as the dataset I already have. Could simply be a case of people being listed under a different name in each dataset, something that is intentional so that 97 doesn't just look like a small version of 08. As for the birthdaysm, that's Adam's fault. :p He's changed some of them from when I originally made the data. I copied the original workers so I've never changed any birthdays anywhere in the data, so any discrepencies are due to changes after I created the original set. I still remember in TEW04 that Ryu Kajahara was significantly older than he is now, as was Pecs/Mikel Alonso/Super Starfish/Handsome Stranger. Seems BS Scott, Vengence and Mayan Idol have all met a similar anti-aging effect in recent times. :)
foolinc
I can't beleive I didn't already post in this thread yet. It's seems so unlike me. Damn you for updating this. I was already in a bit of a writer's block in my current NYCW game and you had to remind how awesome the 97 NYCW roster was.

mrnoun
Minor bug report: just noticed Kayin Puro only speaks English, not Japanese. EDIT: A second small issue with AMW. All the other "investors" are signed to 5-year written deals. Joel Kovach, the rich guy who supposedly shelled out the most money, is signed to a random deal. I guess that could be intentional, but I thought I'd point it out anyways.

Tempest Kane
Its december 1999... im playing AMW. Some how i have managed to keep this company together, make new stars and take this company to the C- prestiege and C importance across the USA. I actually think in another 2-3 years this company may go National... sure everyone hates each other... but when i read the description of this promotion i couldnt help but think "This is WCW if eric had bougth it out at the end and only been left with DDP as his biggest star lol" =P Im making a success story out of doomed failure and im loveing it. I have been getting by with all the young (future superstars) like Rich Money/Sammy Batch/Freddie Datsun and just about anyone i can pick up for a PPA on the east coast indy scean to prop my company up, sure i only have them for a few months before they get eaten up by the major japan tour companys and what not.. but so far its working. Joel and Archangel are huge stars now and are the cornor stone of what im doing. I also have Brent Hill / John Anderson on my roster who im useing to carry decent matchs out of some young talent i managed to sign to exc ppa's and keep with the company for over a year now. Once i go national i think ill be fine for talent and i think long term i will try to make NYNC my development terratory. I did commit a WCW style sin however... i hired Corporal Doom and let him become a 3 time heavyweight champion while in a feud with Brent Hill (who became a 4 time champion out of the fued to eventualy be put over at the end) despite Corporal doom not having held the SWF belt for 20 years... (he was the NYNC champ at the time tho). I did it to give my company's main belt some credibility to be honest... i know it dosnt count in the grand scheam of things ingame but i wanted my belt to actually have some "Legends" on it if possible. Im trying my best to sign Nemesis (without much luck) so i can do a similar thing with John Anderson. Lets call Corporal Doom my hogan and Nemesis my randy ;) HCG is in a state atm.. falling apart... as expect dave is in the same boat. Ill likely pillage them both (-:

It's just one of those names that looks odd and I've had several arguments with myself about it. Finally got MS word to settle it for me by copying the name in and changing the font til I confirmed its an EYE. :) Weird short names? Will definitely need to hear what that is. And lastly... AMW? Who in their right mind even tries to keep them alive?! :p
