how's your tag-team division going?

Recommended Posts

I know some folks ditch their tag titles straight away but I was wondering for those of you who book it what sort of success (or failure) stories you've had trying to build a strong tag division. Who have your champs been? What have you done? Have you had surprising combos work out well or flame out?

My APW one has been pretty dull so far - Rick Stantz/Blake Belushi and Motty Kuroda/Jimmy Stratosphere being the stalwarts. However, now we have the Samoan Demolition and the newly formed Lanny Williams and Harry Simonson. It's pretty strong and will be seeing more coverage I think :)

I know its not as financially viable to have a tag division as you're paying more guys, but in theory they can go longer and if their good then that's a good rating chunk more than you'd normally get. I think. Anyway, in APW here are my teams. Champions: The Brisbane Bashers (Mauler & Smasher) -Big Daddy Horne & Alyx Macquerie -The Rising Suns (Jimmy Stratosphere and Motty Kuroda) -SSS (Switchblade & Spiffy Stan Standish) -Misery & Anguish -Island of Death (Brisbane Devil & King Malitoa)

i brought in Steve Flash for my USPW game to tag with people and help them in the ring. Right now Frankie Pereze has the title with him and while frankie has gained in some stats(D in selling! god i wish he would sell something...) he has been putting on matches well below what i want(average midcard match draws a C- while my tag matches draw at best a D).

I never ditch my Tag Titles. A solid Tag Division is normally a main focus of my promotions as I love tag team wrestling. I'm in the process of building another good tag division. Jersey All Pro Wrestling Current Tag Teams LAX (Homicide and Hernandez) currently enjoying a 9 month Tag Title reign Briscoe Boys (Mark and Jay) Feuding with LAX over the belts, however a new team are challenging the brothers claim to the number 1 contenders spot... The Dirty Solution (EC Negro and Havok) since KC Blade and Papadon left I had nothing for either to do so tagged them up... for once instant success with chemistry! I am actually debating whether or not to put the belts on them as they are gaining momentum.

My tag team division is always a key part of my promotion, no matter what game I'm playing. My desire for a vibrant tag team scene, at all levels below main eventer, is one reason my rosters are usually so large. My tag teams are exclusively that. Prior to TEW08, my tag teams ONLY wrestled tag team matches or matches related to tag teams. So while two members of a tag team might face each other in singles matches leading up to the big blowoff match of their tag team feud, that didn't happen all that often. I usually had enough tag teams feuding at once to be able to do 4v4 matches and cross over like that. Without giving away too much, I can say that I have over a dozen tag teams either on my main roster or in development, and ideas for three dozen more. My tag champs can often main event PPVs once I get them going well.

Depends on the roster size but i normally make a bunch of teams right from the get go. It is common for me to take a look at every midcard wrestler and below and try to partner him up with someone. The begining of the building takes its toll in the match ratings department but its an invesment.
My tag division is week as SWF as far as big names but I have a TON of tag teams that I have in mind that I'm working on building up as soon as I get a B show.
Care to share? :D As SWF it starts really, really badly in general in terms of overness and momentum. So for a couple of months a Bumfholes/Death Row feud with the Wildboyz also playing a part has delivered pretty poor ratings, while as far as High concept are concerned, Groucho got a shot at Money due to his great momentum and there's been some tension between them, but they've got a shot at Nothing to Lose and I'm not sure what to do with it...they'd be great for prestige and losing would really hurt their overness, but long term plans involving stables and so on mean there's a lot of options to think about.

I have anything up to ten teams in a Regional promotion, and while most aren't main show worthy, and a tag match is pretty much a guaranteed ratings bomb, I'm determined to build up teams to the point that they can carry the show. With two exceptions, though, my teams are way too often stuck in the Fs and Es for experience :(

Playing as USPW, a month ago (game time) I had the following tag division: McWade Brothers Nation of Filth Towers of Power Dirty White Boyz The Hillbillies Savage Fury Forces of America Mainstream Hernandez and Kirk Jameson (who had excellent chemistry) ...as of this writing, I have: Dirty White Boyz The Hillbillies What a month. I let Tribal Warrior go because the division was so deep and I wasn't using them(plus Java decided to tour Japan). On the very next show, Dallas McWade hurt his back and after a botched surgery he was out 3+ months. Captain USA retired. Grunt was so unhappy with my recent decisions (he'd been causing quite a few problems, apparently he hadn't agreed with my disciplinary choices) he refused to renegotiate. Finally, NOTBW went national and signed Mick Muscles and Kirk Jameson to written deals. This all happened in about a two week span. I'm just going to deactivate the titles, spend the next couple months rebuilding the division, and bring the titles back when Dallas gets healthy...they had the titles when he got hurt, and I never got a chance to give them to somebody else.

Well, my current Ring of Fire game... The Shooters (virtually never tag anymore, A* experience) Dos Phoenix (A* experience) The Stunners (Black Eagle & Bulldozer Brandon Smith, former champs here and for CZCW, A* experience) East & West (Marc Speed & Nichiren Amagawa, A* experience) Extraordinary Men (Extraordinario Jr & El Heroe Mexicano, A* experience) The Professionals (Greg Gauge & Ernest Youngman, C- experience) The Disrespected (Chojiro Kitoaji & Keith Adams, B- experience) Los Leyendas (El Leon & Ultimate Phoenix, C+ experience) Pure Perfection (Steve Flash & Sergei Kalashnov, D+ experience) make up the bulk of my tag division and look set to be the key teams in the tag tourney PPV I have planned for later in the year, Guard of Honour. I've also got a couple of fledgling teams building up experience at various rates, to whit: Buddy Garner & Roy Edison (F+ experience) Tiger Force (Byron & SUKI, F experience) (Spoilerish) The Parasites (Billy Robinson & Wade Orson, around F experience right now) Tag wrestling was basically my strategy for accelerating development for ages. When I finally had enough good wrestlers in experienced teams I began to see just how useful they can be...

Major tag team mark, so I do major tag team work in TEW. I wish TEW better simulated tag team wrestling TBH, like tag teams making the HOI and stuff. Anyway, WCW mid 1998 here is my tag team division: Outsiders (semi-regular) Roadwarriors (not a serious tag contender, but they still work bouts) Benoit & Malenko The Eliminators (brought in Kronus) Los Guerreros The Dudleys Kaeintai (I stole Taka and Funaki from WWF) The Blue Bloods (Steven Regal & Dave Taylor) The Public Enemy (with a renewed push) Harlem Heat (has done a few tag matches, but both are singles wrestlers primarily now) Chono & Tenzan (tag champs) High Voltage (jobbers) Faces of Fear (veteran jobbers) The Armstrong Bros. (jobbers) Boogie Knights

Tag teams in the HOI would be a v. cool addition. I had a whole DOTT scenario set up for 07 where I was going to run a tag team-only league to put the Midnight Express over in a diary. Of course it never happened then... but you never know in the future! Some great divisions & teams mentioned in the thread; thanks for sharing.
