BattlARTS 2008

Recommended Posts

After hours upon hours of re-organizing my data, I bring you my first attempt at a journal in TEW 2008 using LUKIE's wonderful mod. Fighting Investigation Team BattlARTS Fighting Investigation Team BattlARTS is a professional wrestling promotion based in Koshigaya, Saitama, Japan. The promotion was formed in 1996 by Japanese wrestler Yuki Ishikawa, and featured all of the wrestlers from the Fujiwara Gumi promotion, who had abandoned the promotion in favor of BattlARTS. They ran shows in the Tokyo area regularly from 1998 to 2002. Even though BattlARTS' style was based around shoot-style wrestling, the promotion often cooperated with other federations and styles, including RINGS, Kingdom, Michinoku Pro and Big Japan Pro-Wrestling. The biggest co-promotion occurred on October 17, 1999 when BattlARTS and Great Sasuke's Michinoku Pro-Wrestling presented Michinoku Pro vs. BattlARTS, which was headlined by a tag match pitting the owners of both promotions (Great Sasuke and Ishikawa) against Jinsei Shinzaki and Alexander Otsuka. The promotion ceased running regular shows and events in 2001 due to "management aggravation". BattlARTS eventually began to run monthly shows mainly in Tokyo, Saitama, and Shizuoka Prefecture, often co-promoting with Daisuke Ikeda's FU-TEN, Kiyoshi Tamura's STYLE-E and Satoru Sayama's RJPW promotions. They have grown as a group in 2008, and have featured many amazing matches and talent from ZERO1 among other promotions. Recently, BattlARTS officially signed into a working agreement with ZERO1. Their next show is scheduled to take place on 11/16/08 at the Kitasenju Theater 1010. Card for 11/16 announced, NOAH participation by Dean - 11/4/08 In a huge surprise, the next BattlARTS card will feature participation from none other than BattlARTS alumni and NOAH star Muhammed Yone! The dislike between NOAH President Mitsuharu Misawa and BattlARTS President Yuki Ishikawa has all but been confirmed by the men themselves, and this match is a huge step in what could be a new agreement between these two companies. BattlARTS participation in ZERO1 & FU-TEN by Dean - 11/10/08 Munenori Sawa and Yuki Ishikawa, usually BattlARTS' most frequent representatives in other promotions, made some waves in ZERO1 and FU-TEN over the last few days. Ishikawa captured the newly created FU-TEN International Title, while Sawa made the V2 defense of his NWA International Lightweight Tag Team Titles with Ikuto Hidaka. Sawa out, Takeda in + Sawa in ZERO1 by Dean - 11/12/08 During today's ZERO1 show, Munenori Sawa was apparently knocked out by a Daisuke Sekimoto German Suplex. In his best interests, his mentor Yuki Ishikawa has pulled Sawa from the next BattlARTS show. Sawa said he regrets not countering the suplex, but understand why Ishikawa wants him to take the night off. Replacing him in his match against Hayato "Jr." Fujita is Masashi Takeda. BattlARTS Results by Dean - 11/16/08 NOAH's arrival in BattlARTS did not go smoothly, to say the least. After a long, drawn out, 30-minute time limit draw, Muhammed Yone apparently made some very insulting comments towards Daisuke Ikeda. Ikeda's hot temper got the best of him, and before anyone realized what was happening, staff and their tag team partners were trying to pull the two apart. The brawl lasted for minutes, and Yone even took a shot at Ishikawa as well! Ishikawa got on the mic after the whole ordeal and proclaimed that this would not be the last of this rivalry and that Yone would be in a BattlARTS ring again! Yone accepted and left the arena to a chorus of boo's. BattlARTS, 11/16/08 Kitasenju Theater 1010 300 Fans - Super No Vacancy Full House 1. Sawa invades SEM, scores a win by Dean - 12/3/08 In a big win for BattlARTS, Munenori Sawa paid a visit to NOAH's child promotion SEM today, and defeated one of NOAH's own trueborn wrestlers, Ippei Ota. This was a big win for BattlARTS after the whole Muhammed Yone ordeal. The rivalry between these two promotions is beginning to grow. Full card for 12/21 show, NOAH & DDT participation + Korakuen in 2009 by Dean - 12/5/08 The card for the last BattlARTS show of 2008 is looking to be a real good one, with participation from both NOAH and DDT among other frequent outsiders. In what should be an amazing main event, Yuki Ishikawa takes on DDT's Kota Ibushi, who is the sole ace of DDT's shoot-style sub-brand Hard Hit. Under that, a huge tag pits Alexander Otsuka & Munenori Sawa against DRADITION's Mitsuya Nagai & Michinoku Pro's Hayato "Jr." Fujita. Shuhei Taniguchi of NOAH continues the BattlARTS/NOAH story, as he takes on former NOAH freelancer and the man who started all of this, Daisuke Ikeda. Nothing exceptional, but the main event was a nice way to end out the year. Ikeda really sent a message to NOAH, by KO'ing Shuhei Taniguchi. After the main event, Ibushi said he would be very excited to return to BattlARTS in 2009. BattlARTS, 12/21/08 Kitasenju Theater 1010 232 Fans 0. Full card for Korakuen show + BIG NAMES by Dean - 1/10/09 The card for the 1/18/09 Korakuen Hall show has been released and it is truly a supercard for BattlARTS. NOAH's Muhammed Yone returns to take on Daisuke Ikeda, a match spawning from the initial confrontation between the two back in November. Upon this slight incarnation of a rivalry with NOAH, Ikeda took on and KO'ed NOAH's Shuhei Taniguchi in December, and Munenori Sawa paid a visit to SEM where he beat Ippei Ota. Yuki Ishikawa sent a personal challenge for one of NOAH's best to come face him when BattlARTS returns to Korakuen. NOAH answered and KENTA will be taking on Ishikawa come 1/18. BattlARTS Results by Dean - 1/18/09 A big day for BattlARTS in their return to Korakuen Hall. While attendance was not really as high as desired, the company still put on a great show and the rivalry with NOAH was really emphasized. In the final 2 matches, Daisuke Ikeda finally silenced Muhammed Yone with a KO High Kick in a brutal and hot contest. The tides turned in the main event, as NOAH Jr. ace KENTA knocked out Yuki Ishikawa with his patented go 2 sleep knee strike. This rivalry is far from over in the eyes of both BattlARTS and NOAH, who want to avenge their losses on this day. BattlARTS, 1/18/09 Tokyo Korakuen Hall 600 Fans 1. Big News by Dean - 3/28/09 In a first for BattlARTS, an official BattlARTS championship has been created. Today, Yuki Ishikawa revealed the BattlARTS Punishment World Title, a shiny gold belt with the BattlARTS logo featured on the face plate. Ishikawa said that the talent in BattlARTS should have something to compete for, and on the next event, scheduled for 4/12, a 6-man tournament would take place to crown the champion. Yuki Ishikawa and Daisuke Ikeda have already been granted byes into the second round of the tournament due to their place on the BattlARTS card, so other members of the roster/outsiders will fill the cards out. Results by Dean - 4/12/09 A big day for BattlARTS, as the first ever BattlARTS Punishment World Champion was crowned. In the opening rounds, Munenori Sawa defeated UNION's Isami Kidaka in an impressive manner, while Alexander Otsuka knocked out DDT's Tanomasaku Toba. In the semi-finals, Yuki Ishikawa battled his student Sawa in a heated contest that ended with a vicious enzuigiri that knocked out Sawa. Otsuka then took on Daisuke Ikeda in the best match of the night, but came up short, as Ikeda's knocked out Otsuka. As many would have predicted, the Finals came down to Ishikawa, BattlARTS founder and flag bearer, against Ikeda, Ishikawa's constant rival and foil. In the end, it was Ishikawa who came out victorious, using an Octopus Hold to submit Ikeda after 18 minutes of brutality. Ishikawa said he is going to defend his title on the next show, and has his eye on a range of challengers, from a re-match with Ikeda, to Mitsuya Nagai, to outsider opponents from NOAH or ZERO1.
