The Importance of a Good Referee

Recommended Posts

Just curiously, how much does having a good referee add to the final match score of your various cards? Because I'm doing a bit of cost-cutting in trying to meet some of my financial goals, I've been changing out the referees once they reach a certain 'monetary cap'. Am I shooting myself in the foot by doing this? I mean, I'm bringing in replacements with almost-as-good skills as the ones leaving at the moment (and not just somebody off-the-street) but, say, I did decide to bring in somebody with decidedly poor skills to be my ref (in order to save a buck or two) would my matches really take that much of a hit? Thanks in advance to those who have had some experience with this. Foxcutter.

Like anything else, a really bad one will take away from the match, and it will be evident in the road agent notes afterwards. Unlike announcing, a really good ref doesn't get mentioned in helping a match, but then, if a ref is really good at his job, he should be practically unnoticeable.
Unlike announcing, a really good ref doesn't get mentioned in helping a match, but then, if a ref is really good at his job, he should be practically unnoticeable.
That's what I was thinking but was wondering where the threshold was. In the past four-to-five years of in-game time, I've downgraded from a referee with A Skills in Refereeing to B- and now to C+. The move from the B- to C+ Ref will save me about $2000 a month in base salary alone not counting all the little perks that he requested during negotiations (Merchandise and Travel Expenses). Since I had never seen a Road Agent Note regarding the referee's performance during a match, I was wondering if I could scrape even lower. Anyhow, many thanks for your quick response and insight. It depends on the size of your promotion. If you are small or regional, you can probably get a ref in the C range and not be hurt too much, plus they should improve over time. If you are bigger, then you should be able to afford a really good ref and shouldn't skimp just because it isn't obvious how much they add to a match grade.
