BIGJOSH
http://www.wjhg.com/home/headlines/31181409.html
An early morning accident has shocked the lives of 13 year old Melissa Tindell's family and friends. Authorities say the Merritt Brown 6th grader was waiting to catch the school bus on John Pitts Road when her cat ran into the street. Melissa went after her beloved pet and was struck by an oncoming car. She was pronounced dead at Bay Medical Center. The crash is still under investigation. "We are a family. First of all we feel like one of our family members has left us. The entire school is affected, from teachers, administrators, students to custodians. We're all suffering the loss right now. It's a terrible thing," said Charlotte Marshall, Merritt Brown Middle School Principal. This accident serves as another reminder of how crucial it is in the morning and afternoon when kids are going to and from school that you slow down and be aware. "Early in the morning on your way to work be careful. These kids are out here at the bus stop and a lot of these streets are narrow. They don't have a place to stand. We try to provide them a proper place at the bus stops and just be aware of their presence and be on the lookout for them please," said Mike Jones, Bay District Safety Supervisor. Counselors are on hand at Merritt Brown to help students with the grieving process. And some of those kids are already planning ways to honor their friend. "There are already kids talking about dedicating a page in our yearbook and certainly other memorial type things, planting a tree in Melissa's honor. We're all hurting right now," said Marshall. Melissa Tindell had only just begun her life at Merritt Brown, but school officials say they already knew her and she was a sweet little girl, who will be sorely missed.
As many of you know I'm a Youth Pastor and this was one of my youth that attended my youth group. The last couple of days have been really rough and your prayers are really appreciated during this time of loss for this family. The funeral was today and was a beautiful service honoring a beutiful young lady. Here's some more info if anyone is interested... This is an article on the funeral itself http://www.newsherald.com/news/melissa_689...ly_tindell.html This is a tribute page that was posted by PETA http://blog.peta2.com/2008/10/remembering_...sa_tindell.html

infinitywpi
I remember reading about that. The girl's heart was in the right place, that's all I can say... she saw something she loved and felt responsible for in danger, and tried to help. If you have to die... that's the way to do it. Oh and a little hint a dear friend of mine may she RIP passed on several years ago. You and others close to Melissa may want to stock up on raisins and other such sweet fruit like that. Even for non-diabetics, grieving can play havoc with the blood sugar. The raisins will help regulate that so you don't get run down. Take care and my condolences to all who loved dear Melissa. djthefunkchris
Things like this seem so unfair. The child was trying to save a cat, at a Bus Stop. Her age makes it seem even more unfair. My prayer's are definately with you, your youth group, the school, and family of Melissa Tindell.
