Guest The Aussie
I was wondering what are everyones current impressions on Kizarny aka Sinn Bowdee? I was watching some of his viginettes earlier on Youtube and I feel that it is either wrestlecrap worthy or could be fairly enjoyable. The guy certainly has a unique look to say the least. Irish Wolf
I find his introductory videos horribly annoying. Talking like that is such a pain in the ass and gets annoying really quick. I like his look and I like the idea of the carnival freak, maybe they can even make a dark carnival stable but if he talks like that all the tiem I'm going to tone out in a hurry. Self
Most of his segments had been editted out of the Smackdown episodes I'd seen (No idea why. I don't suspect foul play) but I had a look on Youtube earlier and... I don't hate it. I agree that the dude seems to have a cool look, although I'd like to see him size up against some of the current crop of wrestlers before I confirm that opinion. Something I think is important is that the guy has to get really, really good at speaking Karny. Seriously. It won't work if he's pausing for even a split second between each word. He should try going whole days only speaking Karny. If it sounds like he's a complete natural at it, the audience will believe that he actually speaks in that fashion, and will buy into the character. I don't know what purpose speaking Karny can have, but I'm interested to find out. What him getting over will come down to, I think, is whether he can kick ass in the ring. Look at Evan Bourne. Look at Vladamir Koslov. To a lesser extent look at Primo Colon. They came in and did things that we hadn't seen in a while, and now they're well on their way to being characters people care about. On the other hand, look at Ryan Braddock and Bradan Walker. You have to offer something unique. The Kizarny character seems to offer something new character-wise. Hopefully he can do the same inside the ring. If so, he might make it as a worthy and interesting character. I'm optimistic. P.S. I think it's only Wrestlecrap worthy to people inside the business, who know what the whole Kizarny thing means. To a casual fan, he's a carnival theme weirdo who speaks a bizarre language. Which is perfectly fine in my book.
cappyboy
And again, Self, it looks like we disagree fundamentally. These Kizarny sketches have been doing absolutely nothing for me. I hadn't even gotten the concept that he's supposed to be a carnival freak up until it being mentioned in this thread. The look I admit will capture some people but that's the only thing I've been able to find to this guy so far. So yes it is Wrestlecrap to folks outside the business. Every time I see one of these intro sketches I just shake my head and recognize once again why I tend to drift in and out of watching WWE programming these days. How they use this crap but bail on the much clearer but equally crappy Domino-tion character is just beyond me.
Self
You're more than welcome to disagree with me. I do tend to enjoy the gimmicky parts of wrestling more than most. Although it seems I forgot to put my main verdict into the rant :) The skits haven't thrilled me. I'm not excited about this character. I don't think the skits are entertaining in their current form... but I don't think they're awful either. The idea is still blooming and I refuse to write it off just yet. Think of the children. They might find a crazy-talking carnie highly entertaining... particularly if they make a big deal of his first appearence; accompanied by a sword swallower and fire-breather... or riding an elephant. I don't think we're going to care about this character until we see him in the ring. If he wrestles his first match doing nothing but body-slams and clotheslines and finishes with some variation of a DDT or Flatliner, then I'll gladly step into the antii-Kizarny corner. Honestly, introduction videos do little to get me excited about characters, although I liked some of the R-Truth ones, and I vaguely remember some Sean O' Haire lifestyle guru type things from way, way back. P.S. Here's a testement to how much I love gimmicks... I marked out huge for Kung Fu Naki. Although not at first. Hated the R-Truth song. Nothing'd his Vickie office appearence. Loved his Crane Kick victory over MVP.
Now here I agree with you. While so far it comes off like pure crap, I don't think we'll get the full extent of the Kizarny character until he starts appearing at the arena. If they do let him do something wacky like walk through an arch created by fire-breathers or ride down to ringside on an elephant for his debut, I will mark out for that. Even more so if he does a really good crazy act like Devon Storm did as Crowbar. But if we've seen the full extent of his insanity already then meh. And you know, while I'm not yet impressed with this character, I am thrilled they are introducing him this way. I've always loved seeing intro promos and been more interested in seeing the guys who got them than guys who made generic debuts. I may not be able to cite chapter and verse anymore. But I still remember the anticipation I had to see guys like The Smoking Gunns and Tatanka that was generated by their introduction videos. Prophet
I'm torn, honestly. I've seen Sinn Bowdee in FCW (was even at the fair they filmed the vignettes at.) and I think he's a solid worker. And whenever he's on the mic, he does the carny talk, albeit sometimes with small stutters or whatever. I think the grand insanity of the character (being a carny freak, tattooed from here to nowhere, including a full on woman on his left side, and wearing tights that'd make Rico blush) will give him a chance to make that "I stand out from the typical cookie cutter" impression. And the possibilities are endless. The dark carnival, where he collects misfits and freaks, a small band of outsiders, accompanied by sword swallowers and fire breathers, would be awesome. I just don't see that actually coming to fruition. There's an FCW match that was televised in the greater Florida region (I don't think they broadcast outside this state) where he took on Colt Cabana, who had already debuted as Scotty Goldman, which was a decent match. If it's his entire repertoire, I'm afraid he might be seen as bland, aside from the baby leg drop. I will say this, though. I'm not huge on "wrestlecrap", in that I don't dig giving a guy a gimmick, just so he can say "I'm a cowboy" or "I'm an astronaut" or whatever. But if a guy has a character that enhances the whole persona, the born and raised in the circus, living his life as a freak and an outcast, believing he's always been on the outside, and now seeks revenge for all those years of abuse and heckling, I'm all for it. And this gives Sinn a chance to do that. His name kills me, though. Kizzarny? Really? We couldn't go with just Bowdee? Or Sinn? Damn WWE writers.
