Transitional Champion

Recommended Posts

Alright so I am playing a SWF game. My current World Champion is Angry Gilmore, and has been for over 6 months game time. He has been a pretty good champion, and is up to A popularity across the board in the US. Lately I have been a huge Rich Money mark and I have decided to put the strap on him. Since they are both heels, I am trying to figure out which person I should put the title on in between. My options are... Jack Bruce - The man Gilmore beat for the title, current A popularity across the US Christian Faith - Also A popularity across the US, and the person Gilmore has just been feuding with for the best 3 months. Sean McFly - B+ across the US, and one of my best overall workers. Dan Stone Jr. - A great worker, and B+ across US. Brent Hill - Fresh off a hot feud with Rich Money that got him up to B+ even though he lost practically every match to Money. So those are my 5 face options that I see putting the title on. I thought of turning Gilmore but I like him as a face since I dont have too many heels that can go in the ring, most of my main event heels like Remo, Runaway Train, and Vengeance are more big guy power wrestlers. So thoughts?

This enrages Gilmore and he ends up costing Bruce the title when he takes on Rich Money. This keeps Bruce/Gilmore hot and also gives Rich Money some heat coming in as the new champion. Money could then go on a heel tyrate of "not having to PROVE that he is the real Champion". Saying what Gilmore did had nothing to do with his skill level & him being the ultimate champion. Could create a great three way dance scenario in the end. This would also make Bruce feel like a SUPER FACE as he looks as if he has "none of the chips in his corner". He has to defeat two heels to win the title back... So, when he doesn't get the title back in the three way dance he looks strong still. Also, Bruce could take out Gilmore to negate his ability to take the strap off of Money and in the end.. Money is still on top. This time, showing that he can win as you could have him make the ultimate pinfall.

I'd say Brent Hill for 2 reasons.. 1) It would be different. Afterall, everyone else you list is a multi time champ in SWF or some other organization. 2) A Short title run with Brent won't hurt him or the belt, and it leaves the other match ups in the future you can build towards.

If Rich has been beating him all the time then it'd be great continuity for him to do it again too. Plus Brent would get a main event rub in the process... and yeah, Rich is awesome so should have the belt all the time from now til he's too old and dead to wrestle any more. :)

Of course, if you aren't a fan of transitional champions you could have a Triple Threat with Gilmore, Money and, say, Hill. Money pins Hill so Gilmore loses control and spends the next few months trying to end Hill's career for ending his title reign. Something along those lines. Of course that's only an alternative to the transitional champion thing. I always think unless everyone involved gains transitional champions are a bit hit and miss and can do more harm than good.

I agree with Brent Hill. I like transitional champions to be guys that haven't been in the main event before whenever possible...I think it's a great way to give a guy who's right on the main event/upper midcard border a shove into clear main event territory, and test him out a little bit without laying the hopes and plans of your entire promotion on the back of an unknown guy.

Brent Hill it is. No one other from that group will benefit from the win except Hill.

Brent Hill would be good, but I have to pick Christian Faith. A transitional run might hurt a guy like Brent Hill in the long run, especially if we're talking losing on TV or not holding the title for a month. With Faith, on the other hand, he's over enough and talented enough to win the title to blow-off his feud with Angry Gilmore, but a short reign doesn't hurt him because he's not a guy that needs to win every match: while it might hurt others, it's perfectly in character for Faith. Plus, I think the guy is the biggest workhorse in SWF and deserves to get as many runs at the top as he can get.
