Kobeverse Beta Release 0.7

Recommended Posts

http://www.sendspace.com/file/jna4u5 Put a lot of myself into this one but I've gotten burnt out on TEW for a while and I'm doing another project with a different game (rpgmakervx) that's kind of pulling away from my time with this. I'll finish it eventually (I always finish my projects. :))but I thought I would post the incomplete beta for anyone interested since I know I brought this one up all the way back towards the end of TEW07's life cycle and I wouldn't want anyone who was waiting on this to be disappointed. ^_^ It's my own original universe. Here are the old threads: http://67.19.230.90/~arles/forum/showthread.php?t=35892 I'll put up all the graphics with the final release or maybe later on if my internet starts to cooperate. Bobinc is there some way you could host this on your site? I don't know how long sendspace will keep it up. Workers: 1027/1067 Gimmicks: ???/??? He just put it up. :) You can get it from his site now as well as the sendspace links. To everyone that has downloaded so far how does it run? Any favored promotions/wrestlers etc.? Two of the promotions are largely empty but there are enough free agents to fill them pretty easily. In the future I plan to fill those two promotions I just don't feel like doing the last 41 wrestlers at the moment. When I do though expect new workers to be added regularly. :)

Figured I'd start a little note pad and put down my first impressions, before I even really get started. Hope this can help in some way! Sorry for my nitpicking in advance! ;) Started out with Vincent Decker due to him being from Boston, Mass... and also because he's a playboy. Mass respek to the man whom dates a different playgirl bunnie every month! Overall, no offense, the names for the promotions are a bit bland. You use a lot of similarities between the names, for instance using Joshi, Women's and Japanese all twice. That could have easily had been changed by just changing one Woman's too Ladies, or Japanese to Nihon... but I guess I'm just getting stuck on the names here huh? (side note, the names of the Japanese wrestlers soooo seem randomized... If you need help with their names in the future, feel free to ask. I'm involved with their culture a lot, so I think I may be able to help you come up with some more realistic entries then the ones you have here... no offense) I considered taking over The Greatest Show on Earth, because of me loving the name, but the fact that it's an entertainment based promotion it really wasn't my style. This of course leads me to my biggest problem with the mod.. almost every promotion is Entertainment based. I understand this may be a choice of yours to make it more interesting for you, but I guess I just don't enjoy it as much. If I want to start with a non-SE promotion in America, I'd have to due so while starting my own or joining a women's league. No big deal I guess, but a bit under whelming as well. I ended up taking The Octagon due to not only it's cool name, but also because of your idea for it. Being that it only runs 3 and 4 ways is great. I hope you add more to the description in the future, because I think this promotion has a lot of potential as something different. Another big problem I due sorta have with it, is a total lack of talented talent in the world. If your starting a pure promotion, your going to quickly realize that again, this mod isn't for you. There are only a few guys with a B- in Mat Wrestling, yet when you put it to a B- on Chain or Submissions it oddly does go up a great deal. Same thing goes for basically all wrestling skills. Brawling seems to have the highest, understandably. Basic skills and Psychology people with a B- or higher is quite impressive. These guys may be below average wrestlers for the most part, but they do know how to make due with what they have apparently. I think there maybe way too many untalented folks in this world in my opinion. For a thousand wrestlers, to only have 54 active B- high fliers for instance, seems a bit limiting. And that's altogether, not considering that many of them could be on written contracts. I guess I might be being a bit too negative, so my apologies. I'm hoping to point out a few things to help you make the world a better place to play I guess. I'm again looking forward to the pictures, to help bring the back stories to life and give it a little flavor. I'm going to go try the promotion out now and then I'll let you know what I think. Again, sorry for the negativity... and the rambling. But, here's hoping my two cents may help make this even just a little bit better!

Thanks for all of that. I think that because I always play entertainment promotions I naturally gravitate towards focusing on the looks/entertainment/physical stats while paying less attention to balancing the rest. I was planning on using the Cornellverse as an example once I had my wrestlers at the same number as that verse. G2g but will take your suggestions into account when I balance the world at the end. I REALLY appreciate the input. Can't emphasize that enough. The bios aren't complete yet but I will continue to work on them.
Also could you point out the random sounding japanese names and give some suggestions?
Amika Benio Benjiro Botan Chikafusa Chinatsu Chokichi Danno Ema Fujita as a main name Fumitake Fusashi Fuuto Genki Horiguchi is a real wrestler Gin Han Heihachi Hiromasa (Two regular names meshed togather) Honoo And I gave up there. And thats just the first names. Looking through this, it seems you mixed ALOT of Chinese names into this. You could work this into a backstory I suppose, by saying that in a great deal of Chinese immigrants have taken up wrestling I guess. My best advice to find names, is to just look up current real wrestlers names. You can certainly keep it the same way, and I wouldn't hold it against you... but it just looks silly to me.

This is a pretty good mod, lucky for me I like entertainment-based feds. The only thing missing are the pics and logos, because it feels weird without them. I would just change up the names a bit, because a first and last name can get a little generic, but the people playing it can alter it themselves if need be. I'll be watching for the final product. =)

I've got a lot to do. :) 1. Fill out the two remaining rosters that need filling out. 41 workers at last count are needed. 2. Biographical work for all workers (I want to make them more wiki like as I did the user characters). 3. Redo Japanese names that users point out are odd sounding (thanks for the ones pointed out so far. :)) 4. Update/finish the title lineages. (Not looking forward to JWA since I lost the dating I had of them :() 5. Rebalance the data so that the ratio of workers that have a certain letter grade at any given stat (B+ brawling, B brawling etc.) is more in line with mods like the cornellverse. (Side note: The criticism here is justified and I intended to do this eventually, I just didn't realize how much work needed to be done here upon release. I really want to have a data set where every promotion is playable from the onset and where multiple types can be played though, so this is second on my list after filling out the data). 6. Make either AWE or NAPW more traditional/less entertainment based. I'm thinking one of them will have a TNA style product and the other a ROH based one. I will probably leave USWF as is. (Side note: If anyone wants to list product settings that they think aren't represented in the data right now I'd love that). 7. Rename a few of the promotion names to make them less repetitive sounding. I didn't really think about this at the time, but it needs changing. 8. Make more alter egos for the workers. (Side note in relation to number 8: I know that the names being just first and last is pretty repetitive and I have planned on making "wrestler name" alter egos for a healthy portion of the workers right from the beginning. Just didn't want anyone to think I planned on leaving it that way. The idea has been to have all of the workers in the game have real names (including people like Mr. Great/Wonderful that I haven't given real names yet and then have alter egos wrestling names added in the editor that they use. I just think it would add something). 9. Make more new workers 10. Release the pic pack (should post it sometime this week). 11. Redo male sex appeal stat so that it is like the one in cornellverse. As it stands there are way too many guys with B or better sex appeal so Im going to cap it at B-. For guys A* will equal B-, A will equal C+ and so on. Hopefully I get back on this pretty soon. :)

All of the workers in the game have pics at the moment. For reasons I went over in other topics I ran them through filters. There is also the additional reason that the filters make the characters more timeless. In a game where people play for 10-15 years the characters look like they can fall into broader age ranges due to the filters blurring/dulling their features. The pics with names like "! F 20s" in the folder are pics meant to be used for new workers in the event someone decides to turn new worker generation on. The F/M is the gender and the number is the age of the pic for easier use when assigning new generated wrestlers pics. The pics at the end of the pics file (with the z's in front and "worker" in the file names) are the pics I'm going to use on future workers I'm making for the database. Just letting people know in case they might want to use them in the data for a user character or something. It will be a duplicate eventually. At the moment I still need 12 more Hispanic male pics to fill out the data. If anyone has any pics I could still use them. I don't mind cutting them, just links would be nice. Ideally I want shirtless ones for wrestlers but if you can find something else that's just as well. On the other hand I intend to add new workers indefinitely sooo...

My personal thought on the matter is the other fictional mods are quite cut and dry in the sense that you immediately get an idea of what you'll be getting by downloading them. Whereas I'm not entirely sure what the Kobeverse is selling me, besides unique worker cuts :P I may have missed some updates or poorly skimmed over some things, so my suggestions could already have been done, but listing some examples of the top (or more interesting) promotions along with who the major workers in this game world are; perhaps that might drum up more interest?

That makes sense. I'd actually started doing something like that before in another Kobeverse thread but then lost interest. I think with release 2 that I'll do that for sure. :) Right now for 0.9 I'm re-writing/adding onto all of the bios, which is the most fun I've had with modding in ages. Then I'm going to fill in the last 2 incomplete promotions and re-release. 1.0 will be the ratings re-weighted to give everyone a promotion to play, and then I'll think about what to do next. :)

 • 5 months later...

Was planning on adding workers from all previous generations to the data all the way back to 1958 to have all of the games history there. But even using a relatively accelerated regression model I'm left needing to add 600 additional workers to the data in order to have a rolling data:

98'

229 men (18 or older in 1998, 28 or older in game today).

115 women (18 or older in 1998, 28 or older in game today).

88'

65 women (28 or older in 1998, 38 or older in game today).

185 men (28 or older in 1998, 38 or older in game today).

78'

8 women (38 or older in 1998, 48 or older in game today).

52 men (38 or older in 1998, 48 or older in game today).

68'

2 women (48 or older in 1998, 58 or older in game today).

23 men (48 or older in 1998, 58 or older in game today).

58'

5 women (58 or older in 1998, 68 or older in game today).

16 men (58 or older in 1998, 68 or older in game today).

Think I'll just focus on finishing future workers, title lineages and locations for now and make the rest a long term project. :)

Will have 1352 workers and data that is playable through 2023 with workers at slightly above replacement level when version 2.0 is done. ^_^

I did this mostly for myself so I'm not really bothered by it, but why is it that this mod has generated so little interest compared to the other fictional universe releases? I feel as if I'm missing something fundamental but don't know what it is. :)

The main reason is that you say on the front of the first page that you arnt working on this, gave up half way in and will get back to it at some point ... i have opened this thread about 10 time's over the last few months and i think thats the reason i was turned away straight away.

Now having spent time with you in the draft i realise you will infact finish this, but for anyone who dosnt know you its almost like "why should i get my hopes up" kinda thing given how many mods let us down in the end.

PS: No American touring feds :p

/me downloads the data.

edit:

Sorry, the file you requested is not available.

http://www.bobinc.net/TEW08Downloads.html

^^ You can pick the data and picture pack up here. No American touring feds. ^_^

I'd upload my absolutely most recent data but I'm in the process of adding new workers so there are some weird things going on. :)

And you're right, I didn't appreciate the somber nature of my first post. :o
