Oldschool
preface As a kid growing up in WWF territory, I became hooked on pro wrestling in the Hulkamania era. It was bigger than life, surreal and I was awestruck by the stars. It wasn't until a few years later that I came to realize there was another faction in pro wrestling, and while the WWF was the epitomy, the pinnacle of pro wrestling, the NWA seemed more realistic, with regular guys I could relate to better. I bought all into the flamboyant Ric Flair vs the son of a plumber Dusty Rhodes. I felt the intensity of good vs evil that signified the magnum TA/Nikita Koloff feud. Boy was Jim Cornette so aggravating and I always felt so sorry for Ricky Mortan. Arn Anderson was so believable, yet so simplistic, that wrestlers like him turned me away from the character based WWF Years later, wrestling has evolved. The NWA became WCW and it was never the same. ECW ushered in a new hardcore approach that eventually prompted the WWF attitude era. Vince buys out everyone. WWF becomes the E, and I yearn for a day when 2 wrestlers sporting simple looks, traditional wrestling gear, with quick simple promos that say they are going to win because their better, making me have to watch the match because I believe him. They say what goes around comes around. Whats old is whats new! It's the year 2005 and I want to bring that old school feeling back to pro wrestling. Oldschool
Nwa 2k Preface part 2 I set up shop in the Charlotte,NC region. My family recently moved there and I soon followed. I remember as a kid alot of the towns in around the area from the old NWA coming to a town near you promos. At a garage getting an oil change after my trip down from the north a couple of grizzled old-timers were chatting about wrestling. I didn't mention my intentions. I just listened to them talk about olddays even before my time, but names I became very familiar with over the years. They talked about how one of them use to go to wrestling every sunday at the Asheville Civic Center and the other on Tuesdays in Spartenberg and the Spartenberg Auditorium and how their arena was smokier than the others. judging from their conversation, they thought wrestling was fake, but that it was real back then. They inspired me and I was determined to make my dream come true right down to using the old buildings, having wrestlers use traditional gear, promote a weekly show in 1 town and when it catches on, I'll move to another on another night and so on, everthing right down to old ring canvas and skirting and I'll even try to get some of the legends to participate in various roles. (next stop: getting a name and signing some wrestlers)
Oldschool
Nwa 2k (Preface part 3) I got myself in contact with George South, he was an enhancement talent in the NWA during the 80's. He runs a wrestling school and his name is linked to about every independent show in the Carolina region. I thought I craved for the years gone bye, but George lived it. "When wrestlers were wrestlers and not body builders and when kayfabe was standard and not an art form of years gone bye" he stated. He owns a wrestling museum, so I got my ideas about venues, promo items and a lot of contacts. The first contact he got me was the NWA board of directors which through his help let me into their organization. With my money and his contacts we got our letters NWA which the name itself tied to any card down here already helps us get over. We got our first home at the Mooresville Armory in Mooresville, NC just north of Charlotte. It was a small building, but we set up a stage with old NWA backdrop for ringside interviews, we got the lighting to make it seem like a dim lit building and the accoustics in their to make 50 people sound like 500. Most importantly we got our home for Tuesday night NWA Tradition, which we will promote a 2 hour card at 8:00 every Tuesday until we cant do it anymore. We got Les Thatcher, an old NWA wrestler/announcer and trainer to come in to be our Authority figure and add more credibility. We also started making our list of wrestlers that we want to target However most importantly we were able to get a 1 hour television show friday nights at 12:00 midnight on the Sunshine Network. NWA World Wide was back and we were going to use that program to help promote our weekly Tuesday night Tradition program (next stop: we sign up our original roster)

Oldschool
Nwa 2k NWA 2K ( I have edited some of the Ravex data to create my wrestling world including giving myself an overness of 40 in Mid Atlantic region and 25 in South East, I afforded myself a nice budget so I would take myself a while to go bankrupt and an existing TV show, However I dont look to spend $$$ ridiculously and want to build slow)
Oldschool
Nwa 2k Filling out Roster As much as I'd like to go out and sign Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Ricky Steamboat, Nikita Koloff, Magnum TA and The Midnight Express. Those guys would probably still draw a good crowd in the Mid Atlantic region, but we are building a new NWA based on great ring work. Unfortunately, some of the best workers in the business are in IWA Mid South, Ring Of Honor and are roster looks as if it will start off with alot of these stars. We will be running on Tuesdays, so hopefully we'll manage to have most of our wrestlers available to us. Main Eventers Steve Corino- He is the King of Old School, he looks the part and he is someone that we can build around, and we'll bring him in is our "Ric Flair "ish" top heel. Bryan Danielson-The man who I believe pound for pound is the best wrestler in this country. His look is so bland it just screams "old school" Danielson has agreed to go back to his unibomber- ugly beard/shaved head/no tan look. He plans on keeping his gear looking very 80's ish with the plain black or burgandy ring tights Roderick Strong-If there was ever a wrestler that reminded us of Arn Anderson it's Strong, especially since he dropped wearing the long pants for basic black trunks. His look isn't quite body builderish, which is what we want,as he looks like your everyday guy, but he sure isn't that when it comes working in the ring Austin Aires-I know what you're thinking, might as well just be Ring Of Honor, but unfortunately for thats were the best workers seem to be applying their trade. Austin is a little small, but should mesh well with Danielson's, Strongs and even Corino's. Aires said he's keeping his biker trunks look, but in honor of Arn Anderson we got him to get the interlocking "Double A" put on his gear Matt Stryker-Another ROH performer, although he hasn't spent much time their recently. We liked the fact that he is a good mat based technical worker with a simple look. plus he's a little bit bigger in the 220lb range. Stryker is going with the black trunks with 3 white stars on the front (ala Ole Anderson or Randy Savage back in the day)and of course he can keep his unibrow (Maybe I'm a bit too descriptive, but I'm just trying to get a true feeling for our vision) next up upper midcarders
Oldschool
NWA 2k Upper Mid-Carders Chris Hero-Finally, we go outside of ROH (well Stryker not totally ROH) Hero brings to the table a taller, thinner, not the greatest look, but a guy that athletically can go. He figures to match up well with some of the smaller guys we signed. We even convinced him (even though it was difficult to do)to drop ring wear in favor of plain blue trunks with his "Hero" sign on it. We gave him a satin jacket and by golly I think we got our Barry Windham. Matt Bentley-Thought Bentley had that 80's heel persona, we thought we might be able to get him in those old Ric Flair style robes. Bentley is another ex ROH performer who has been wrestling lately in TNA. The only thing we asked of Bentley is could he go back to his old ring name of Michael Shane, which he obliged for us . Jay Lethal-Time to raid ROH again, I just love Lethal's athleticism and while on small side he seems to pack a bit of a punch. Lethal is keeping his ever growing afro and will wear those half black half alternate colored trunks Next up mid-carders
Oldschool
Nwa 2k Mid-Carders Chris Bosh-We got Bosh to come all the way across the country to take a shot with us in the mid-atlantic region. Going on reviews from outsiders, we thought Bosh could bring that Arrogant heel persona to the mid-card Vordell Walker- Walker already looks like a throwback, but his style is very hybrid. We've decided to bring him in from FIP and hold him out for a bit and then introduce him on the scene as a newcomer. We're not sure if we want him as a face or heel, so were going to see how things develope over first couple of weeks and give Walker some dark matches to keep sharp. Jason Cross-Cross is an athletic wrestler from FIP and formerly wildside,he's pretty lean and looks pretty basic, which is a plus with us. We're going to start him as an arrogant heel pretty much like Chris Bosh and see where that goes, Dont know if there is room for 2 guys with thosesimilar styles, so maybe we'll turn them into a tag team. David Young- Despite his long losing streak in TNA, we're bringing him in because he also seems like an Arn Anderson clone, right down to his spinebuster. Slap a pair of traditional wrestling trunks on him and it's 1986 all over again. Ray Gordy-He has the pedigree, being Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy's son. He's young and similar sized to alot of guys we've signed. So we thought we'll give him a shot as a "young Lion""2nd generation" type. Buck Quarterman & Lex Lovett- These guys have toiled around Florida indy's and as enhancement talent on TNA. They're a little bigger than some of those signed and have a decent look, but I have this fascination with masked wrestlers of the 70's and 80's and in the fashion of Assasins and their namesakes before them, we're putting them in masks and together as a team known as The Grappler's. Their names will be #1 and #2 of course next up rest of the roster
Oldschool
NWA 2k Rest of the roster Jeff Bradley-The former Dudley Dudley, has been semi-active in recent years and while not all that good,he has been doing a Bruiser Brody gimmick, which we'll have him bring to the NWA in Bruiser Bradley. Right down to the black trunks, wild hair and fury boots Ricky Landell-Steve Corino talked us into giving his protege a chance. He has wrestled in Japan. He's lanky with bleach blond hair, wheres plain red trunks, sounds like a throwback to me. Alex Law-Another Corino protege, basically fits same description as Landell above. Tyler Black-He's a pretty boy that can get the little girls to scream, thinking about giving him a traditionalold "cowboy"gimmick, but we'll see. We're going to bring along slow Davey Andrews & Anthony Franco-ROH wrestling graduates, we just looking for young talent to groom, that can start out as enhancement talent. Black trunks and hooded sweatshirts are their look. Bryan & Matt Logan-Another couple of youngsters who have been roaming east coast independents. Looks like they'll start off as our babyface tag team. Rudy Boy Gonzalez-He is head trainer at Texas Wrestling Academy and had trained Michael Shane & Bryan Danielson, so we thought we'd bring him in as a veteran for these younger guys to work with and serve as a road agent Greg Valentine-Yes it's the "Hammer". A mid Atlantic icon before his days in WWF. Being brought in as a recognizable face to the fans and we are going to make him a manager. Of who were not sure, but look forward to hearing his deep raspy voice doing promos Allison Danger- Steve Corino is getting everyone jobs as we bring in his sister. Not sure of her role yet, so we'll probably let it play out a bit Tony Schiavonne-He's the voice of the NWA for me. Years of hearing him on WTBS with David Crockett. He isn't the best announcer around, but he gives fans a recognizable voice and we'll pair him our Authority figure Les Thatcher on our NWA World Wide TV show There's the background Next up week

Oldschool
Week 1 NWA Wrestling Observer a weekly behind the scenes of the going ons in The NWA Week 1 is in the books and can say we are extremely happy with are attendances, selling out The Mooresville Armory on Tuesday night for our NWA Tradition weekly event and again on Friday for our NWA World Wide Television taping. Our ratings for the shows was: Tuesday Night NWA Tradition C+ Friday Night NWA World Wide TV Taping C Our Television ratings were: Sunshine Network 1st 1/2 hour 145 viewers 2nd 1/2 hour 166 viewers Urban America (which we did not know we had a deal with airs our replay on the following Tuesday had 1st 1/2 hour 639 viewers 2nd 1/2 hour 664 viewers Needless to say the networks were not happy with our ratings and want us to do something about it. Commisioner Les Thatcher and I are contemplating a tournament to declare an NWA Television champion. We also had some unhappy campers who wanted bigger pushes. Those included Chris Bosh and Ray Gordy. Also our lack of leadership in the locker room could present ome problems, we have requested some negoiations with more experienced wrestlers such as Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton "The Fantastics" as well as veteran east coast independent superstar Ace Darling and former WWE backstage worker and current free agent (release by WWE) Michael Hayes. But, the biggest problem concerning The NWA is that the man we are centering our main storyline around Steve Corino has accepted a position as Head Booker of UXW :( , we have requested negotiations with him to try to convince him to stay, but we will have to prepare for life without him, if he does leave. That position is something he's really looking forward to in UXW. He added, that he really wanted to spoil Danielson's early reign in NWA and would have liked to send him packing and would've stayed with both organizations had he done so, but is a man of his word and will honor ramifications of match and hopes to return to NWA someday. The NWA wishes Corino the best in his future endeavors. Steve Corino's students Ricky Landell and Alex Law have a grudge with Bryan Danielson and in honor of their mentor they are hoping to get some kind of matches signed at Tradition against The Technicians. Law and Landell are relatively new to the sport but are ready for the challenge and are full believers in the philosophy of wrestling that Steve Corino has bestowed on them Michael Hayes debuted last week on World Wide. NWA officials are hoping that the charismatic yet sometimes controversial Hayes can bring to the announce table what he did back in the 80's as a color comentator for the old UWF. They then went on to make fun of the Horseman and stated how could anyone take seriously a man whose finishing move was a slinshot suplex (Tully Blanchard) and why it would always take 4 guys to beat up the fattest most unathletic man in wrestling (Dusty Rhodes). After the crowd really began to hate on them for this they made fun at the crowd and how they're stuck in 1986 and are glad that they sent the only wrestler that they could indenify with because he was stuck in the 80's Steve Corino packing At this point Alex Law and Ricky Landell came to the ring stating that haven't been in this business that long, but can respect what the older generation did to pave their way and plan to uphold the identity of Steve Corino as the King of Old School and dubbed themselves "The Knights of Old School" and issued a challenge, saying that they'll have a mystery partner with them for a 6 man tag match later tonight.. Oldschool
NWA Wrestling Observer Commisioner Les Thatcher has recieved many petitions regarding the NWA Tag Team title tournament that will be held in a one night sinle elimination tournament. Thatcher has said he has recieved requests from teams both currently in and outside of the NWA. He has stated that NWA teams will get first look, but intends to fill the field and make this as strong as tournament as possible. Thatcher announced The Grapplers as the first team in the tournament based on their strong showings and record thus far in NWA. Michael Hayes intends to watch the NWA tournament from ring side, stating that the importance of tag team wrestling has dwindled throughout recent years and he strongly yearns for the day when tag team wrestling dominates the scene, much like it did during his days as a member of the Freebirds during the era of The Road Warriors, Midnight Express, Rock-N-Roll Express, The Koloffs, The Andersons and much more. Hayes is so excited about the direction that he plans to even buy his own ticket to this event and is willing to offer his expertise in tag team wrestling any way that he can for the NWA NWA has started putting together a list of potential towns for it to consider moving its Tradition location to.
