I'll update this as the night progresses, seeing as I ordered it on a whim. Commentary welcome. Match 1: Team HBK vs. Team JBL I missed most of this match due to errand running, but Mysterio, Khali, and Michaels are the sole survivors of the match. Final two falls were JBL being counted out, and then Morrison eating Sweet Chin Music. Match 2: Smackdown Divas vs. Raw Divas 1. Kelly Kelly (Raw) pins Victoria (SD) 2. Maryse (SD) pins Kelly Kelly (Raw) 3. Mickie James (Raw) pins Michelle McCool (SD) 4. Maryse (SD) pins Mickie James (Raw) 5. Candice Michelle (Raw) pins Natalya (SD) 6. Maria (SD) pins Jillian Hall (Raw) 7. Candice Michelle (Raw) pins Maria (SD) 8. Maryse (SD) makes Candice Michelle (Raw) tap out via modified Figure Four 9. Beth Phoenix (Raw) pins Maryse (SD) SOLE SURVIVOR: Beth Phoenix Matt Hardy reports Jeff Hardy was hit in the back of a head, behind the ear, with a blunt object. Status for tonight's Triple Threat title match is unsure. Match 3: CASKET MATCH: Undertaker vs. Big Show About five minutes in, Big Show flips over the original casket after trying to rip the lid off. After some fire shenanigans, druids ring out a second casket and the match continues. The second casket was stood on edge by Show, with the door open, but Taker throws Show into the open casket. Casket falls, and the lid shuts. WINNER: The Undertaker Segment with Carlito and Primo Colon, Charlie Haas, and The Boogeyman. Nothing to see here. Match 4: Team Batista vs. Team Orton 1. CM Punk (Batista) pins William Regal (Orton) *about 10 seconds into the match! 2. Shelton Benjamin (Orton) pins R-Truth (Batista) 3. Randy Orton (Orton) pins Kofi Kingston (Batista) 4. Cody Rhodes (Orton) pins CM Punk (Batista) 5. Mark Henry (Orton) pins Matt Hardy (Batista) 6. Batista (Batista) pins Mark Henry (Orton) 7. Batista (Batista) pins Shelton Benjamin (Orton) 8. Randy Orton (Orton) pins Batista (Batista) *Off a blind tag SOLE SURVIVORS: Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton Spot of the night so far: Layla pelts CM Punk with her thrown shoe after Regal gets pinned. :D Interview with Vladimir Koslov. SPEAK ENGLISH, PLEASE! Jim Ross reports that Jeff Hardy will NOT be competing. Match 5: WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Vladimir Koslov vs. Triple H --Note that Jeff Hardy is reported as not being able to wrestle tonight --After Trips hits a Pedigree, and both are down, Vickie announces that it's still a Triple Threat match and out comes....EDGE. He spears Trips, out comes Jeff Hardy, who cracks Koslov and Trips with a chair before getting speared by Edge. Edge then covers Triple H, and we have a new WWE Champion. WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: Edge Match 6: WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Chris Jericho vs. John Cena Even given that it's Boston, I had not heard such a pro-Cena crowd in a while. Cena in control for early part of the match, but lost it when he hesitated to go to the top rope for some move. Jericho ended up in control, using some moves outside the ring and nearly getting Cena counted out. Jericho focused on the neck and head of Cena for most of the match, at one point even using a Full Nelson on Cena--a move I cannot recall Jericho using prior to now. Walls of Jericho was applied, modified version with a knee against the head and neck of Cena. It was broken quickly, but Jericho applied a normal version of the hold, Cena barely getting to the ropes. Desperation F-U by Cena as Jericho charged back in. Long crawl to a cover, only gets two as Jericho slides out. Fight on the top rope as Jericho gets thrown in, top rope leg drop from Cena as the crowd pops. F-U attempt by Cena...CODEBREAKER! One...two...right shoulder up from Cena! Jericho stalks Cena, maybe for a second Codebreaker--no, clothesline. Sorry, folks, false alarm there. Jericho in control for the moment as he levels Cena with repeated clothesline---wait, STFU! Locked dead center of the ring, Jericho crawling to the rope, Cena breaks. Jericho went for a small package, Cena powers out, FU! One, two, THREE! WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: John Cena

Wow. HHH vs Kozlov was the most boring match I've seen in a LONG time. The idea it's booked that way, so high on the card is atrocious. Edge and Jeff came in and saved the day, reminding us all who *really* draws. And once again, Cena does nothing and is given everything. Is it just me or are the feuds on Raw all messed up? Punk vs Orton should be the focus, not Batista vs Orton who have nothing but some ancient history. Cena should have been coming back to fight Batista, you know... the guy who injured him in the first place? Instead he fights Jericho for NO reason and gets the World goddamn Championship. What are the odds we see a Spinner WHC? *yech*

It was a solid move booking Cena with a returning title shot... but winning it!? That's where it gets wack. It's known that it's a good formula having the top babyface chase the title anyway. Instead, Cena just straight-up wins it, and I'm betting it's because they wanna see that RAW weekly rating go up, the sons of bitches. I don't mind much Cena winning it as a whole since I thought he'd win it at Armageddon, but... eh.

They couldn't pass up the 'Cena triumphs after injury in his hometown' setup. From the first time they said he would return in Boston, it was clear he was going to win. Now they have the pieces in place for the rest of the Cena-Batista program with perhaps a little Orton thrown in the mix for good measure climaxing in a WM main event between any two, or perhaps all three of them. And darnit, I LIKE Edge, but I feel like I sat down at a gourmet restaurant, ordered a petite filet and got three-day old leftover White Castle. We're going to go through the same lather-rinse-repeat of Edge/Vickie weasel title reign. I didn't need Demon Edge, but I wanted something DIFFERENT.

He'll team with Mike Knox and they'll bring back Paul London, it'd be so freakin manly and good...Team Testosterone...

I think, as a whole, a lot of good was done tonight. Not great, sure, but good. The Rhodes/Orton dichotomy was really well done. Somewhat predictable, but well done. Other aspects of that match irked me, but that's neither here nor there. I can't, for the life of me, figure a legitimate reason why Edge forgave the woman who helped put him in hell, but yay he's back! And yeah, the Cena win was predictable, but the story of the match was great. Something Batista couldn't have pulled off the way Jericho did. Yeah, it was probably done for ratings, and as a feel good story, and I, personally, would rather have Jericho as champ, but Cena as champ does open storyline doors. So long as Jericho doesn't fall the way of CM Punk (jobbing to a Cod-DT), and somehow remains in the hunt, I can live with a Cena reign. I do have 2 questions, though. 1 - Who'd Regal upset, as to lose in 11 seconds? And how amazing in Layla's aim? That shot Punk took with a shoe was awesome! And 2 - Who thought it'd be a good idea to job out Victoria, who can hold her own, and let Maryse survive to the end, with her flippity-floppity stumble wrestling? That was unbearable!

I like Cena, but giving him the belt right off the bat is a mistake. Why? Not because he's not deserving of it. He's one of the biggest draws they have, hands down. It's because they're painting themselves into the same old corner. Honestly, how many times has there been a "Cena chasing the title" storyline? 05 vs JBL (got it first match), 06 vs Edge (got it three weeks after losing), 06 vs Edge II (got it after two? three? months), 08 vs Orton & HHH (didn't get it). And it all made for some pretty good TV while it lasted. We've seen Cena as champ for a combined near 800 days since WM21. How many days has it been since that show (which I went to)? A little over 1300. He's been champion over 60% of that time. And while I'm not saying that he's bad at champ, I think that a better idea would have been him chasing the title, then having Jericho get beat in a surprise match by Batista or Punk or (I shudder to think) JBL or Orton. Then they drop the title after a while to Cena. Would have built up a lot more tension. Can Cena recover after all his injuries? Is he at the same level? Sure, him coming back and winning the Rumble was a great moment that I don't think anyone had seen for a while or has seen since, but to just come back and win at Survivor Series? His first night back again? Come on, Vinny-Mac. The RAW Main Event is stacked. It's been booked so well that there are about 10 people who can step up and be a credible champion at the drop of a hat. And how fun would it have been to see Cena struggling to get back into the rhythm, and then finally triumphing, maybe at the Rumble, maybe at Mania. Oh, well. I'm not saying this is really such a bad thing, but... It could've been way better. On the SD side... Don't get me wrong, Edge is a great heel champ. By himself. If he has a GM on his side and cronies, his credibility goes down the toilet. Remember when it was just him and Lita as the ****iest people on Raw? Getting intentional DQs and weaseling out by himself when he was in trouble? And then he goes into HIS match and loses. That was a great story. The Vicky thing is boring................................................................ BTW, I don't know how coherent what I just wrote is.

Jericho was running out of people to defend it against. Batistas been done, HBK has been done, CM Punk vs Jericho likely wouldnt get the ratings they are looking for therefore Cena getting the belt back offers many more possibilities. Cena vs Batista(most likely), Cena vs Jericho, Cena vs Orton. I just hope we dont have to see any more JBL title matches. I still want to see Cena vs Undertaker in a wrestlemania. I think if that one was set up correctly would be one of the most hyped matches in WWE history. The undefeated UT vs the WWE Champion with many other ways to hype this main event. In order for it to work properly one of them woud need a major heel turn as face vs face main events are not interesting IMO.

The fact that Cena won the belt out of nowhere just makes me want to watch RAW even less. I actually started to get into the program when CM Punk won the title and then marked out when Jericho's new persona came through. I even find myself starting to like Orton.. and then.. Cena comes back out of nowhere and receives a title shot. Not only receives it... but wins the title. Riiiiiiiiigggghhhhhtttttt......

I guess they didnt have the patience to try and build it up slowly probably because they have something in the works for the RR and WM and needed his momemtum to increase. It seemed they were trying to give him a losing streak before he got hurt so who knows where exactly that was going.

I'm seeing the same thing on every message board... Edge and Cena out mostly the same amount of time. Both come back and win a World title their first night. Mysteriously... it's only bad for business that Cena won even though he's the biggest draw in the WWE right now.

But yeah, they really should've drawn this out, have Cena actually chase the belt. Instead, we'll have a whiny Y2J using his rematch clause for an even-more predictable main-event matchup at Armageddon. Boo.
