Shalabi Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Noticed I never posted by rules and rounds. In a Ring Non-title: 3x5min rounds Titles: 1x10min round and 2x5min rounds. Legal moves (when allowed by sanctioning committee): Knees to downed opponent, kicks to head when on stomach and elbows are allowed. Affliction has two TV shows, Proving Grounds (TV special events) and Rising Tides (Monthly TV event). Ive chosen not to post those just because it already takes so long to play the game I think Id go crazy if I did them all. So I'll try to keep updated a little on background coming into PPVs. But that all depends on how dizzy i am from the meds  Hey guys, thanks for following. I really appreciate it as Im held up in my house with a work-related leg injury, just waiting for my University to start its next semester. This game and forum is a God send for me. Playing the game and writing this stuff down is all that keeps me from focusing on pain. Although, its proven tough to keep track of certain things because of pain meds :p . Upcoming PPV: Emelianenko vs Lashley: Yes, oddly enough (and as much as I hated it) Bobby Lashly has established himself early as a great MMA fighter defeating Paul Buentello, Todd Duffee and Pedro Rizzo in three consecutive months. Rizzo was ranked #5 in the world at Heavyweight. Coupling Lashly's good performance in the league was the unfortunate losses for Semmy Schilt and Ben Rothwell as well as Roy Nelson's contractual obligations to another organization, Lashley was the most obvious choice as Emelianenko's next title defense. No other matches had been set up for this PPV as it is still two months out. Other Matchups: Andre Arlovski (#5 HW) vs. Josh Barnett (#6 HW) - Both fighters have lost to Fedor in attempts to claim the title. This is Josh's first fight since the loss and Arlovski is coming off a UD victory over Alistair Overeem in a surprisingly uneventful match. Igor Pokrajac vs. Vladmir Matyushenko - Matyushenko has dropped two in a row and to fall from his #3 LHW ranking. Pokrajac is one of the many claimed in Affliction's heavy campaign for expansion. We hope for big things from either of these fighters.

Phil Baroni will get a title shot against another talent to be named later as there is a vacant Middleweight belt after Matt Lindland was released. Andrei Arlovski has secured another matchup with Fedor in about 5-7 months and Bobby Lashley will have to take his well-beaten tail back to the drawing board and hope he can continue surprising the Affliction fans until he can earn another shot.

Shalabi Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 So I had the ill conceived idea of running a Heavyweight Grand Prix to decide the next Affliction HW champion. Good idea in theory, bad because its a mix-n-match set up. Regardless Im running a TV series special on it and I'll post those accordingly. Each round's matchups are decided by random.org to keep me from giving someone an easy road. There are 16 participants for the main tournament and an 8-man reserve tourney that will run at the same time. Hope you guys enjoy it. Shalabi Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 California, October 2010 Affliction 14: Benavidez vs. Veach Yoshihiro Tomioka vs. Takashi Nakakura - An ever expanding Featehrweight division gets even deeper with these two nihongin powerhouses. Jeremia Billington vs. Travis Wiuff - Wiuff looks to cement a contender opportunity. Billington, who was shelved with an injury looks to get back on track. Phillipe Nover vs. Ville Manninen - Manninen is young and already making a mark with a 2-1 Affliction record. Nover has a meager 1-2 record and needs a win to secure his job. Fabricio Monteiro vs. Simeon Thoresen - Thoresen (3-1 in Affliction) is attempting to grab a top-contender spot while Monteiro looks to prove his 2000/2000 rolling contract pay is worth the money. Fred Freebush vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama - On paper this fight looks to be heavily favored for Aki; However, Freebush, who began his career in Affliction (3-1) has shown he's not afraid of veterans having already gathered a victory over Vitor Belfort and a loss to Scott Smith. Yuksuke Endo vs. Ariel Sexton - Both fighters have had an up and down road with Affliction and this fight will secure on of them a job for the time being while the other will be on thin ice. Luke Stewart vs. Thiago Silva (WW Champ) non-title fight - Stewart has rallied of three wins in Affliction but against remedial talent. Alves needed some competition to fulfill contractual obligations and will take Luke on in a non-title fight. It's a double-edge sword fight for both warriors. Wilson Reis vs. Yoshiro Maeda (FW Champ) Wilson is 10-1 in his career and has jumped right into the fire facing off against Maeda for the title. While some question Wilson leapfrogging both Benavidez and Veach, the prospect of the two undefeated fighters facing one another first was too rich to pass up. Joseph Benavidez vs. Matt Veach - Neither fighter has lost in their career and are fighting for a chance to take on Maeda in March. It's a classic battle of jiu-jitsu vs. Wrestling.

You can always just seed your fighters from best to worst rather than random match-ups, that way you can guarantee more good fighters in the semis and finals.

Weichel is practically fighting for his job. Joe Riggs vs. Hector Lombard - Lombard seems to be a streaky fighter and therefor has an uphill battle against he heavy-handed Riggs. Cheick Kongo vs. Daniel Puder - Fighting for the vacant reserve spot in the HW tournament left open after the firing of Roy Nelson, both look to have a second chance at fame. Renato Sobral vs. Igor Pokrajac - Pok has been on a roll and Sobral is in-form as always. Joachim Hansen vs. Chris Horodecki - Chris has had strong showings in the TV shows, finishing three fighters in a row. Joachim has had a luke-warm Affliction career thusfar. Both fighters are running short on chances. Caol Uno vs. Mike Pyle - Both fighters have won their last two fights and each wants a crack at the Welterweight Champ. Ricardo Arona vs. Alexander Gustafson - Arona is the last original Champion of Affliction still standing. Gustafson has a four-fight winstreak in play. Still only being paid 300/300 per fight, he's looking for a big payday. David Kaplan (LW Champ) vs. Masashi Takeda - Takeda has found his form and is out-wrestling all his opponents. Kaplan is the fifth lightweight champion in Affliction history and looks to defend the title successfully for only the second time int he belts history.

Shalabi Posted December 13, 2008 Author Posted December 13, 2008 Calfironia, December 2010Affliction 16: Miller Time Jeremia Billington vs. Jay Whitford - Whitford is 3-0 and looking like a future star while Billington is fighting for his job. Michal Hamrsmid vs. Paulo Dantas - Dantas is also looking to save his Affliction career while Hamrsmid wants a shot at #1 contender. Brock Larson vs. Rick Legere - While Legere has been productive in the organization, he's also been plagued with injury. Larson is looking to make his mark with a second staright win. Yves Edwards vs. Hideo Tokoro - A #1 LW contendership is on the line. Yves is considered the #2 LW in Affliction while I personally think Tokoro has this one. Joey Villasenor vs. Vitor Belfort - Jobs are on the line in this fight. Either way there'll be a TKO. Ville Manninen vs. Vitor Ribeiro - While Manninen is new to the MMA scene (4-1) he's already had some tough competition, whether or not he can hang with Ribeiro is debateable. Anthony Lapsley vs. Ryan Ford- Lapsley has been a pure dissapointment in Affliction and is on his last leg. CB Dollaway vs. Jason Miller (MW Champ) - CB is riding a four-fight winstreak but Miller has been unstoppable for the last 14 months and is considered the #1 MW in the world over Anderson Silva and Murilo Rua.

Shalabi Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 oh and the GP kinda went to crap cuz Arlovski starting taking 6months off for every fight and Barnett left.... so Kimbo and Orvil Palmer are the two remaining fighters in the GP tourney and will fight for the GP belt (both have three-straight tourney wins) while Arlovski (6 straight wins) and Travis Fulton (#1 p4p fighter) will fight for the WAMMA heavyweight belt. Next time I'll do a better job of making sure my tournament competitors have enough fights already signed so i dont run into problems.
Shalabi Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 I noticed that in doing these journals, it can become difficult to know who to pick in a fight if you dont know the fighters current history etc... so i'll work on a write-up starting with the MW GP round 1. Until then... Upcoming PPVs: June, 2011 Affliction 20: Immortal Adamir Musaffi vs. Luke Stewart Bob Sapp vs. Todd Duffee Joey Villasenor vs. Aaron Simpson CB Dollaway vs. Minowa Yves Edwards vs. Bendy Casimir Scott Smith vs. Vitor Belfort Joseph Benavidez vs. Yoshiro Maeda Kimbo Slice vs. Orvil Palmer (WAMMA Heavyweight Grand Prix Final) Jeff Curran vs. Jens Pulver (WAMMA LW Championship) Juley, 2011 Affliction 21: Alves vs. Bailey Brock Larson vs. Drew Fickett Jason Riley vs. Jonathan Wiezorek Erik Apple vs. Caol Uno Erikas Petraitis vs. Matt Veach David Daplan vs. Joachim Hansen Alistair Overeem vs. Hong Man Choi Forrest Griffin vs. Jay Whitford Sergei Kharitonov vs. Antonio Silva Thiago Alves vs. Shamar Bailey (WAMMA WW Championship)
Shalabi Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 Starting August 2011: Middleweight Grand Prix Hector Lombard vs. Benji Radach Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Brian Ebbersol CB Dollaway vs. Joe Riggs Jason Miller vs. Givanildo Santana Joey Villasenor vs. Falvio Moura Xavior Foupa-Pokam vs. Alessio Sakara Fred Freebush vs. Minowa Trevor Prangley vs. David Louiseau A quick outlook at the fights, starting with the first noted bout. The winner of the Grand Prix tournament will be the #1 contender to face the Middleweight Champion. In the case that the title is vacant when the GP champion is determined, he will also be handed the vacant title. Lombard vs. Radach: Hector Lombard has replaced Scott Smith who has been injured during training. Lombard (19-6-1/2-4) has had a less-than-spectacular stint in Affliction and is currently riding a two-fight losing streak. Benji Radach (21-6/2-2) who has beat Vitor Belfrot and Tom Watson has also fallen twice in the Affliction shows to David Loiseau and Cote. Akiyama vs. Ebbersol: The well vetted Brian Ebbersol (36-16/0-1) has had quite a lengthy and impressive overall career; However, since 2006 he has only seen one fight, a decision loss to Pedro Rizzo. He may have an uphill battle in the first round facing highly active Yoshihiro Akiyama (18-4/6-3) who has fought nine time in the past three years and has won twice as many fights as he's lost. Most recently Aki has bested Allesio Sakara and Trevor Prangley. CB Dollaway vs. Joe Riggs: In what could be the sleeper fight of the night, in either a positive or negative way, Dollaway (11-3/1-2)tries to turn his Affliction push around after dropping two straight fights to Jason Miller and Minowa. The highly-seasoned Riggs (31-13/3-2) has the experience and power to stop the young fighter in his tracks and even went so far as to state "I know the powers-the-be would like these young bucks to succeed. I have plans of my own". Jason Miller vs. Givanildo Santana: Former Middleweight Champion Jason Miller (29-7/4-1) has been publicly upset by his performance in March, 2011. After stringing together four straight wins in Affliction, grabbing the championship and defending once successfully in the process, Miller was knocked out in round one of his second defense by current champion Patrick Cote. Miller has vowed to train harder than ever before and steamroll his first opponent. That opponent is Jiu-Jitsu veteran Givanildo Santana (12-3/1-2) who hasn't seen action since his win over Andrei Semenov eight months ago. Joey Villasenor vs. Falvio Moura: In one of the least exciting fights of the night, Affliction veteran Villasenor (29-11/3-5) takes on virtually unknown Moura (17-8/0-1). Villasenor has had sub-par success against top talent, losing to Cote, Belfort, Riggs and David Louiseau while Moura has had only one fight, losing to Terry Martin by TKO. Hopefully some sparks will fly to light a fire under one of these fighters and propel them to the second round. Xavior Foupa-Pokam vs. Alessio Sakara: One of the newest editions to the Affliction team is Muay-Thai expert Foupa-Pokam (19-9/0-0) who will face Alessio Sakara who has yet to garner a win in the Affliction organization falling to Aaron Simpson and Akiyama. Fred Freebush vs. Minowa: In the first worthy match up of the lower bracket, Freebush (5-1/5-1) looks to continue his blooming career against a long-time veteran Ikuhisa Minowa (43-32-8/2-0). After suffering a six-fight losing streak, Minowa has strung together three straight wins in affliction over Alavutdin Gadzhiyev, Hector Lombard and, most recently, CB Dollaway. Freebrush boasts his short-lived career with notable wins over Vitor Belfort, Aaron Simpson and fellow tournament contender Yoshihiro Akiyama. Trevor Prangley vs. David Louiseau: In the final, and possibly most exciting, fight of the night sees Trevor Prangley (22-10/4-4) and former Middleweight Champion David Louiseau (23-10/5-1). Prangley is coming off of a two-fight losing streak. Louiseau, since losing the WAMMA title, has only fought once, a TKO victory over Joe Riggs. Both of these men are looking for a way back to the title and this could be a huge first step.

Shalabi Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 Affliction 24: The Return of Fedor Adamir Musaffi vs. Mike Pyle - Pyle needs to get back on track and Musaffi is 0-1 in his career and wants to launch into the viewers eye with a high profile win. Brett Cooper vs. Joe Jordan - Jordan wants to make his Affliction career 1-1 while Cooper is looking to get back on track after dropping the title and a second fight. Daniel Puder vs. Alek Emelienanko - Aleksander has lost three straight since the Brother's Keeper PPV. Puder hasn't won since entering the organization. Whomever loses this fight will be on their last leg and most likely be on the dreaded Rising Tide (last ditch effort to save your career) show. Jason Riley vs. Todd Duffee Both fighters have done surprisingly well in the heavyweight division and look for an opportunity to be on the shortlist for Heavyweight contention. Yoshihiro Tomioka vs. David Kaplan - Kaplan has been a steady fighter in Affliction and looks to continue that streak. He needs a stoppage win to keep people interested in him. Yoshi has been exciting bu inconsistent. Ricardo Arona vs. Aaron Lofton - Lofton has worked his way near the top of the Light Heavyweight division while Aaron still sits in contention. One of the two will have a shot at the current champ after a win. Igor Pokrajac vs. Travis Wiuff - Both fighters can't seem to string together a winstreak. So placing them against each other after they've recorded wins may help the victor along. Travis Fulton vs. Andrei Arlovski - Fulton is the #1 P4P fighter, which may only be due to his 120 wins. Andrei Arlovski is the #3 P4P fighter in the world with six straight wins. With a sixth win and Fedor beating Kimbo, AA will finally get a rematch with his nemesis. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Kimbo Slice - The still undefeated but former Heavyweight Champion will face off against the Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion to see who gets a shot at the title. This one should be quick either way.
