Mid Card Title Question

Here's the set up: You have a nice prospect who is holding your midcard title. He's risen in popularity ever since getting it and he's had a nice long run. You want to pull the trigger on his main event title run. Now, you also have another prospect (let's say he's a lower midcarder, bordering on the midcard) who you want to give the title. The problem is, if you give the LMC guy a win over the UMC wrestler, your UM carder is going to lose popularity. How do you avoid that WITHOUT using the "replace champion" or vacating the belt?

Have him start a fued with a main event level opponent, and put the champion in a match with the other up and comer, having the main eventer cost him the match, thus keeping his heat and adding fuel to the fire of the new fued. or triple threat as the previous person mentioned.

I had this situation in SWF... ultimately, I just bit the bullet and had Rich Money lose to an only slightly less over T-Rex for the title, and then promptly moved Rich Money into a Main Event feud. It seems to have worked out pretty well.

Another possiblity is to have your guy losing the belt at the start of a feud to a guy on the way down from the main event scene. Make the feud personal so that your prospect is no longer concerned about the title (I'm not someone who believes in wrestlers saying they've outgrown the title - but putting other things ahead of them can be okay) and then have your guy winning a blow-off, non-title match to end the feud and replace the new champion in the mian event.

Triple threat I only use for low level title changes (since it allows me to use more of the workers who typically don't get much action). Example: Fuyuko Higa is low level champion, on the cusp of midcarder status. She has a Fatal Four Way with Dragon Assassin, Miss Information, and Ochiyo Iijima for the Future Legend (low level) title. Assassin pins Miss Info to win the title. Later on in the show, in a backstage segment, Brooke Tyler (the midcard champion) has words with Higa and slaps her, igniting a feud between the two workers. Since Brooke is rapidly approaching main event status, this feud should elevate Higa to firmly midcarder (if not upper mid) and Brooke to main eventer. In the short term, Higa winds up a midcarder immediately after the show (via auto push), even though she lost a title match (and the title).
