I have a drug problem - help

Let me clear this up straight away. The problem is not that I take drugs! I work as a chef in a local bar/steak house. Recently we had a management change. The old manager was a good, solid, no-nonsense kinda guy who had managed to bar all the trouble-makers and drugies that infested it. The last incident was about six months ago when a fight between two guys escalated into a proper wild west brawl with chairs and tables being thrown, and knives instead of guns. It spread into the car park where people were trying to run others over, and that spread out into the estate behind the pub. It was so bad my boss couldn't let our quiter regulars or staff leave for fear of their saefty. We didn't leave until 4 am. The cause was drugs. Now under new management the vermin have crept back in. Every Friday every body seems to have a sniffle as they walk around the pub wiping their noses. I don't feel safe there any more. The trouble makers have been pointed out, but my new boss turns a blind eye and hides in her office. It doesn't look like the problem is going to go away. My girlfriend wants me to leave my job, but I can't afford to do that. I don't know what to do. I need some advice from people that are not involved in this that's why I'm posting this.

I was thinking of phoning the police but in my experience they don't do much. They say they can't do anything until they catch someone breaking the law. But then don't turn up until 3-4 hour later when everything has died down! I am looking for another job, but they're not easy to come by these days.

Is your manager also the owner? Or is she just employed to run the place? If she isn't the owner, then how about going above her and explaining things to the owner, make them realise that the credibility and continuation of their business is at risk.

No problem, and good luck. Just ensure that discretion is assured, you don't want to be losing your job because the manager takes offence that you went above her head.
Take it to the area-manager but don't make it sound like you're accusing your current manager of turning the blind eye...
I'd like to emphasize this.... What your manager is dealing with is NOT something a typical "Chain Pub" would have to deal with "everywhere". Not everyone has had the opportunity to "learn" how to deal with these types of situations, and she could very well be a great manager in all other area's (you know... managing the people that work there). So I would definately explain to the area/disctrict manager that this is exceptional, and that the situation is not something everyone is used to dealing with. Perhaps offer advice on how this was dealt effectively with, in the past.

Thanks for the help, guys. I just got back from work and I spoke to my area manager. I didn't mention my boss I put it to him as a concern I had and what would be the proper procedure. Apparently we have a couple of undercover cops that drink in the bar.
