Blackman Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Right now i've quit my job at CZCW, and it proved to be HUGELY frustrating. I quit mainly because of the inability to rent better venues then the ones with 1000 people. I quit, and one month later the AI rents a 5000 seat venue and books it to be sold out. That's it for me. Screw this. The AI gets such a fair advantage over the player it's just not fun anymore: I booked matches a month from before and got LOTS of difficulties getting 3000 people to my event. Now the AI can't have booked from way before because I simply left like only TEN DAYS AGO. This is unfair, it's unlogical, and it's utter BS. When we asked for AI improvements, we didn't wanted the AI to be held mechanically high so they would crank A+ matches on the go-go. In my game, even Michelle frickin' Brendon got an A match by the AI. I spend 5 years working towards an A match at CZCW and the best I got was B+, and I only got it twice in the full 5 years. What's up with that? Add the fact that the AI can get away booking the same match over and over for weeks (even months) in a row, while we risk D-ratings if we book it for a 4th time in like half a year. Don't get me wrong, the game is still fun, but it just gives me a feeling of incompetence, as I see no other way they could've pulled a venue renting stunt like that... ... that is UNLESS the Cult status made it possible for them to raise the size of the event to big... :) (which I totally forgot) Furthermore, the chemistry notes are still ok and balanced, if it weren't for the fact that the AI got a B match out of a bad chemistry pair of main eventers. There is no way in this game that you can get a B-match out of 2 people with bad chemistry if there's a B- match before it using people around the same level who don't have bad chemistry. I book 'em, in a submission match, given they both are technical workers, and they get a C frickin' Minus... Twice! The AI books them... Poof, a B.

Calm Down, if CZCW are pissing you off level out the playing field and do what I do, Put them 500000 in debt. Also, it may be like that because when you play with an avatar your booking skill is zilch. But for the actual characters, they can start out with a B-, a D+ or an A*, Any amount you like
Adam Ryland Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 That's it for me. Screw this. The AI gets such a fair advantage over the player it's just not fun anymore: The AI hardly gets any advantages, other than not having to stick to the rules about repeating matches. On the flip side, the player has several huge advantages over the AI. This is unfair, it's unlogical, and it's utter BS. When we asked for AI improvements, we didn't wanted the AI to be held mechanically high so they would crank A+ matches on the go-go. I was under the impression that most people preferred the AI in 08 to previous games? From reading various diaries, plenty of people seem able to compete with AI controlled promotions. There is no way in this game that you can get a B-match out of 2 people with bad chemistry if there's a B- match before it using people around the same level who don't have bad chemistry. AI matches are calculated individually, they do not take into account the previous matches on a show like a human-booked event would.
Derek B Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 ... that is UNLESS the Cult status made it possible for them to raise the size of the event to big... (which I totally forgot) You nailed it on the head there, cult sized promotions should be able to host big (maybe even huge) sized events. If you were just promoting medium sized shows then the AI has taken one look at you, poked fun at your forgetfulness and shown you how it should be done. Ouch!
Blackman Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 @ The Masked Orange: Put them in debt? They are already 400K in debt by now, since I left them in a doomed state. And don't get me wrong, I absolutely want them to succeed given my history with 'em. @ Derek: Yes, I kind of tested it out in a new game after mimicking my pop and 5000 actually come to a big event. Question remains whether you can actually rent the venue when the player is in debt but it'll probably be the case. I only ran one event when in Cult and left, so I guess I could have done more, but the promotion was doomed anyway. @ Adam: I guess I wasn't critical enough. I could compete with the AI given I got better shows then the other regional promotions but was a bit pissed when the CZCW AI got slightly better matches then me when I left. But again, that's probably due to other factors such as the higher attendance and the fact that Bryan Holmes, who became the new booker, fired all of the lower-card workers, leaving only the cream of the crop, and guaranteeing events with more matches that 'move the crowd' (B-). But are you sure the chemistry also applies to AI? Anhow, let it be clear that I absolutely prefer the 08 AI to the 07 AI, and absolutely prefer shorter loading times then longer ones .
Adam Ryland Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 But are you sure the chemistry also applies to AI? Yes. One of the changes from 07 to 08 is that the AI uses almost identical code to the player. The basic rating that a match gets is exactly the same, the only difference is in the "modifiers" that then increase of decrease the score (i.e. only the player can lose points for booking the same match repeatedly, only the player can gain\lose points for a good\badly structure event, the AI doesn't have road agent notes to use, etc).
Blackman Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Understandable. I can only imagine the loading times if the AI needs to take quadruple matches into account for all promotions. Anyhow, it must have been due to the fact that some encounters between them happened in other promotions, with another layout and in another timeframe etc.
Blackman Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Also, it may be like that because when you play with an avatar your booking skill is zilch. But for the actual characters, they can start out with a B-, a D+ or an A*, As a final question for Adam or someone else: I thought your Booking skill has no effect on the gameplay? Isn't it only for AI promotions. It seems logical since Chiba Chiba used to be the booker of BHOTWG with her D- skill and caused them to drop to Cult, where they still are today. The only effect it has, is to determine whether or not big promotions like BHOTWG will hire you if their booker is fired.
Derek B Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Your own booking skill rating has no impact on gameplay, it mere reflects the success or failure you have had in the game. The value is for CPU bookers and the higher it is the better they will be able to book a promotion, with high values being able to draw our higher ratings from a match than low values. And a high value is also likely to land you a bigger job too.
Comradebot Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I just wanted to step in and say... I book EWA far, far, far better than the computer can. I copied my game once and tested it, and was quite pleased to see them struggling with nothing but C-s and the rare C, while I'm usually upset to get anything lower than a C+, and have more than a few B shows out of them at Regional. Granted, I haven't got an A match YET, but... I'm sure I will, with any luck within this third year of game time.
D-Lyrium Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 ... that is UNLESS the Cult status made it possible for them to raise the size of the event to big... (which I totally forgot) Way to derail your own argument, dude "Hey, despite being identical, my car is slower than your car. That's so unfair! Oh, wait, what does this bit stick in the middle do? It has numbers on it and stuff!"
