GCG : The New Era (Part One)

Recommended Posts

Prologue

Golden Canvas Grappling. Some say, it's the birthplace of Puroresu, but I'm not sure about that. Golden Canvas Grappling used to be something my father would tell me about while I was young. I didn't know much about wrestling back then, but GCG used to be something I wanted to be a part of. I didn't think much of it though, because It was a long way from then, and my hopes of being a part of GCG in Japan were Slim to None. That was until I got the call...

Mysterious voice on phone : Hello, Jack ?

Jack : Yes, this is Jack, who are you.

Mysterious Voice on Phone : I'm Hanshiro Furusawa, And I've got a question for you...

To Be Continued...

Jack : What are you talking about

Furusawa : I know you've been wanting to be a part of GCG, and I've seen you compete on the Collegiate Circuit. You're good, and GCG knows Classic Wrestling, and boy, do you know it too. Do you want to be the new Head Booker of GCG ?

Jack : I'll take the job, but I'm not sure about this.

Furusawa : How fast can you get to Japan ?

Jack : I can get a ticket tomorrow.

Furusawa : Perfect, come by the office to discuss the roster.

Main Event

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/DickTheDevastator.jpg

Dick The Devastator

52, Heel, B+

Dick The Devastator is the legendary 1970s brawler who is best known for being the owner, head booker and main star of the All-American Florida Wrestling promotion, where he held the main title a staggering 18 times while making it one of the hottest territories in America. After being bought out by SWF he went on to form a wild tag team with his friend Saionji Omura, and they became hugely popular in Japan.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/KazuYoshizawa.jpg

Kazu Yoshizawa

44, Heel, A

Kazu Yoshizawa is a legend in Japan, where his loyalty to Golden Canvas Grappling has been unwavering all the way from his debut in the 1970s to the present day. A great worker and three time world champion, perhaps the only downside of his career is that he is in the shadow of his friendly rival Yoshifusa Maeda. Without him and Maeda it is likely that GCG would have gone under many years ago.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/TasukuIesada.jpg

Tasuku Iesada

23, Heel, B+

"Dangerous" Tasuku Iesada is a fine young submission-based wrestler who is seen as one of the most reliable and highly respected workers in Japan. His original training was with the GCG training dojo where he was helped along in part by Yoshifusa Maeda himself.

Yoshifusa Maeda

42, Face, B-

The legendary Yoshifusa Maeda has embodied one promotion, GCG, for over two decades. Despite many tempting offers over the years, even in the company's darkest days his loyalty never wavered, and his continued presence probably saved the company from utter collapse. His multiple reigns as GCG champion are not just a result of his loyalty to the company but are also a testament to his in ring skills, which are on a level so high that few people can even compare.

Upper Midcard

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/Cobra.jpg

Cobra

51, Heel, A

Cobra (Mark Brandt) is 1/2 of the tag team Black Serpent Cult with twin brother Matt. In their prime they were one of the finest tag teams in the business whose cult worshipping creepiness was always sure to get a huge pop. A real life rift between the two men saw them split indefinitely but in 1993 they reconciled and have been touring the world once again with the gimmick that made them famous. Both men are still fine workers and their retirement tour may see them in the big leagues again...

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/JackAvatar.jpg

Jack Avatar

21, Face, -

"The All American Boy" Jack Avatar is widely regarded as being one of the best up-and-coming young talents in the business today, boasting an all-round game that is as good as anyone else in the industry. Whether it's brawling, technical masterclasses, high flying, or entertaining the fans on the microphone, Jack is your man. Gifted with a fine mind for the business, there is a strong rumour that he could be about to become head booker of a promotion...

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/SadakunoNishimuraya.jpg

Sadakuno Nishimuraya

37, Face, C

Sadakuno Nishimuraya is a veteran heavyweight brawler, who is famous for his dreaded "Iron Claw" finisher, which is hugely feared. He has freelanced for most of the Japanese promotions for many years and as such has never quite achieved as much success as some feel he deserved.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/SaionjiOmura.jpg

Saionji Omura

49, Heel, A

"The Crazy One" Saionji Omura is a veteran heavyweight who has been around the Japanese scene for what seems like an eternity. Despite being almost 50, he still partakes in wild brawls to this day usually either with or against his best friend, Dick the Devastator. While not a greatly talented worker by any means, his matches are almost impossible to forget when he's allowed to unleash his full hardcore arsenal.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/Viper.jpg

Viper

51, Heel, C+

Viper (Matt Brandt) and his twin brother Mark (as Cobra) comprise one of the most legendary teams of all time, the Black Serpent Cult. The duo reunited in 1993 after a huge bust-up between them and have since been touring the world as part of a farewell tour. Despite their retirements being on the horizon, popular rumour says the two men are on the shortlists of every major promotion as both men have been putting on fantastic performances wherever they have been and getting huge pops.

Midcard

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/ToshinobuTaku.jpg

Toshinobu Taku

29, Face, B-

Toshinobu Taku is a solid technical worker who has wrestled around Japan for almost a decade. While he is ultra-solid and very dependable, he just doesn't posess any charisma and no-one believes he is capable of becoming a star.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/TasukuShinozuka.jpg

Tasuku Shinozuka

30, Heel, D

"Thunder Lizard" Tasuku Shinozuka is a good all-rounder, who famously does a fire-breathing routine before each match. He used to work under the name Dragon Child when he was younger but he unmasked in GCG so that he could be taken more seriously.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/RobertOxford.jpg

Robert Oxford

36, Heel, D-

Robert Oxford is a veteran, who is known as the "Tag Team Master", having won many tag titles all over the world with a variety of partners. A solid technical worker, he keeps himself in great condition, and can still produce good matches in either singles or tag team competition. His latest pairing with youngster Joel Bryant has been very successful in Japan and was signed to be a part of HGC's roster upon the company's inception.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/NaonobuMurkami.jpg

Naonobu Murkami

30, Face, B-

Naonobu Murkami is a highly respected brawler in Japan, where he is best known as a comparitively long-serving member of the GCG roster. While he has never been spectacular in the ring, he is a tough and very reliable performer.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/MasayukiShiga.jpg

Masayuki Shiba

32, Face, D-

Masayuki Shiga is a solid heavyweight Japanese worker who has an excellent grasp on ring psychology but who isn't particularly talented. A knee injury early in his career slowed down his obvious early potential and he is now often used to put over younger, more talented workers. He is still capable of some good matches.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/JunnosukeFukazawa.jpg

Junnosuke Fukazawa

35, Face, C+

Junnosuke Fukazawa is one of the travelled veterans of the Japanese scene and has worked for all the major promotions at one time or another. He is particularly noted for being a strong tag team wrestler and has worked with a number of partners.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/JoelBryant.jpg

Joel Bryant

25, Heel, D-

"Straight Shooter" Joel Bryant is a solid, very dependable worker. He is best known for his work in tag teams, particularly in combination with Robert Oxford, with whom he has won tag team titles in Japan (with GCG) and who he also teams with in America (with HGC). He is not a flashy worker, but is highly respected by his peers for his unselfish work in making opponents look good and his rejection of politics.

Lower Midcard

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/StrongStyleYoemon.jpg

Hirokichi Yoemon

25, Heel, C-

Hirokichi "Strong Style" Yoemon is a technical wrestler who has some considerable talent despite being fresh out of training. Despite his obvious talents he does have a poor look, appearing to be overweight even though he has good cardio. He also has a stunning plancha dive for a man weighing in at around 265 pounds.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/NathanColeman.jpg

Nathan Coleman

25, Heel, E

"The Pioneer" Nathan Coleman is a tough brawler from Oklahoma, who has shown enough potential to be considered a bright prospect. His style fits in particularly well in Japan where he has already completed a number of tours with GCG.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/TornadoNagai.jpg

Tornado Nagai

24, Heel, E+

Kazu "Tornado" Nagai is a solid technical worker with a good look. He got his nickname due to his trademark sudden explosions of energy, when he'll suplex anything and anyone in range. He is one of the youngsters that GCG has high hopes for in helping to rebulid the company.

Opening

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/RogueMatsuoSF.jpg

Kenta Matsuo

25, Heel, D-

Kenta Matsuo (who also works as simply Matsuo) has been wrestling since he turned 18 back in 1989. A reasonable all rounder, he is a real student of the game and there was never any doubt in his mind of what he wanted to do in his career. He has been mostly associated with GCG since his pro debut and has slowly been working his way up the ladder during his time there.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/SofuOzawa.jpg

Tsunami Ozawa

24, Heel, D

Sofu Ozawa is an all-rounder who knows how to put together a solid match, but does not have the talent to make him anything but a midcarder at best. Sometimes works as Tsunami Ozawa.

Enhancement Talent

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/KenichiKomagata.jpg

Kenichi Komagata

26, Heel, F+

Kenichi Komagata is a relatively talented technical worker who has spent almost his entire career so far with GCG.

http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/TEWMan/TEW%20The%20New%20Era/YatsuhiroAtshushi.jpg

Yatsuhiro Atsushi

22, Face, D+

Yatsuhiro Atshushi is an all-rounder who is a solid dependable all rounder. His work lacks any real kind of fire to make it stand out but he rarely seems to have a particularly bad match so far in his young career. He signed with GCG shortly after he completed his training but has yet to achieve anything of note.
