ok, its christmas gift decision time. my wife has been asking me for weeks what i want for christmas, i havent had an answer. until now that is. i have decided on an mp3 player, as my blackjack phone just sucks as one. now the hard part... for the last two days ive been reading and watching different reviews and comparrisons on the 120 gb zune and the 120gb ipod. after taking in all of this information i cant really decide and time is running out. im leaning towards the zune but have never used one. my wife keeps telling me ipod because she has one. i also have an xbox 360 so linking the two together is a plus.

heres where the greatest community in the world of internets comes in. what would be your vote and why? does anyone own, or has owned both? i have like less than 24 hrs to tell her what to get me, so its crunch time!

HELP! zune or ipod?

your best bet right now is to get the iPod. only because that's the only way you can use it in the car. I don't know if you can use Zune in cars with Sync but right now any other car uses the ipod hookup. microsoft hasn't really hyped up Zune as much as Apple hyped up the ipod so your best bet is ipod. although if your into P2P Bearshare is Zune compatible as well as ipod compatible

I've started reading some good things about the Zune, but I've never met anyone who actually owns one. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) I've ever met who has an iPod swears by it. So yeah.

The Zune has an FM receiver in it, so if you like to listen to the radio... well, if it's like the FM in my Sansa, it won't work indoors anyway...

I've got a co-worker who swears by (and ocasionally at) his Zune, and the bigger screen is kinda nice. If you're planning on a lot of video, that might be a deciding factor. Otherwise, everything points to the iPod; you can still connect it to the 360 (look for the Optional Media Update or something like that on Marketplace; free download, allowed iPod connectivity) and can share any 'accessories' that your wife has (speakers, charging cords, etc).

I'm not getting this ipod pwns zune mentality. The truth is that they're both very good players. As someone who's owned numerous versions both, I can say that they both have occasional hardware hiccups, so neither is superior in that respect. I've had both break down. I've had both with poor battery life (really weird!)

Sound quality, storage space, they're about equal. The iPod has better battery life overall however, even if you turn off the wireless capabilities of the zune.

There's a very fair (in my opinion) review of the zune here: http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-players/microsoft-zune-120gb-third/4505-6490_7-33259222.html

In the end of the day though, I too would say iPod over Zune, but I just wanted to point out that the Zune doesn't suck at all, and it's more like an apples and oranges comparison rather than an apples and horse**** comparison.

iPod for me too - I've had the iPod Photo almost since it came out, used it lots, dropped it, got it wet... Never a moment's trouble.

I also have an iPhone, and love the scrolling/touch/full-screen video.

But I'd always take an iPod - even if I do hate the way it's set up to reorganise your computer's music folder. If you don't have iTunes yet, watch out for that. Took me a long time to reorganise my music folder when I first installed it...

the touch is the same size as the classic with a bigger screen

or wait are you talking about memory?

if your talking bout memory you can get a 32g ipod touch..thats the biggest one ive seen so far in the ipod/zune/mp3 thing..unless i missed some...

I voted for the iPod Classic

I can't say that the iPod is better than the Zune, because I have never owned a Zune. I've only owned a 1st Gen iPod Nano 2GB (somewhat of a mistake on my behalf). I mean, I liked it, but it was pretty spendy for just 2 GBs of memory. Don't know why I decided to get a freakin' Nano when I could have gotten something that held more memory for less money.

Anyways, besides the price and memory (back then), I really liked it. Main reason I think is that iTunes was slick to use. Even though my iPod Nano is pretty much dead now, I still use iTunes for the most part.

On the iPod Touch though, it looks sweet. I would like to have one, but they're are pretty spendy and you don't get as much memory. I think 32 GB is the biggest one they have, but it's like $400. I would still go for the iPod Classic just because it can hold a LOT of songs and many movies. I'll probably be getting one once I'm ok enough to go back to work and getting some money.

Although I am interested about Zunes. I've heard both good and bad things about them, but the same thing could be said about iPods. I guess this poll will be useful for me too. I may get an idea on Zunes.

But yeah, right now, I'll go with the iPod Classic.

Really I haven't even seen that yet

I mean I have the 16 and it is really nice and the reason why I like the touch better than the classic is because

first to fill a classic you really have to be bored

2nd the touch has wi-fi and plays different games and can go on the Internet, it in my opinion is just a much better ipod

Depends on what you want to use the iPod for. I got my classic for music as I have around 15gb, which leaves a lot more space to act as an external harddrive.

If, like you, you use it for wi-fi, games, etc. then maybe the touch is a better option. But it really depends on what the user himself plans to use the iPod for.

Get the iPod touch, you won't regret it. Wouldn't you love to view GDS in that little screen in a uh.. restaurant? :p

Well if there's only those two choices up for grabs, I'd say iPod classic. Zune is good though, no doubt.

Thing is a lot of Zune users(not all, but many) pick them because Apple ****ed them over, lol.

I can do that on my Phone though... Now if I could play TEW on it... then I'm sold! :D

Well, I guess my wife wins... I'm gonna get the Ipod due to the overwhelming vote count. Thanks to all those that voted. Oh, and to whoever said something about filling it would be hard... I'm actually gonna have to cut my collection in half or more to get it on there. lol

Good luck with the iPod Classic. I was somewhat taken how one-sided this poll was. Seems like I'll probably be getting myself a new iPod soon as well. My Nano is pretty much lifeless. Battery only lasts like an hour or two. Poor thing, I didn't take good enough care of it. So word of advice, take good care of that iPod Classic.
