Guest Ransik Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I started getting into it last week when I was bedridden with chronic bronchitis... USA has it on 3 times a night. I first saw it at my buddy's house as he has seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. Now I love the show... I think it's a great drama/comedy and the actors are all freakin' brilliant. One thing just irritates me and I was wondering if anyone else thought it to be ridiculous; They're in what... season 4 or 5 now? You would THINK at some point that they would all realize that House is either never wrong or fixes his mistakes. I mean come on... why is it after several years (or months cause I dunno how the timeline runs on the show) they still question his judgement on EVERY patient? You would think the writers would've gotten tired of that angle by the end of season 1. Sometimes a great episode gets completely ruined for me because they always start a 5 minute argument on how House is wrong and they're right. The things that make you go; ............................................______ __............................. ....................................,.-‘”...................` `~.,................. .............................,.-”............................ .......“-.,.......... .........................,/.................................. .............” :,.... .....................,?........................... ...........................\,.. .................../......................................... ......... .........,} ................./........................................... ....... ....,:`^`..}. .............../............................................. ..... .,:”........./. ..............?.....__............................ .............:`.........../.... ............./__.(.....“~-,_..............................,:` ........../.......... .........../(_....”~,_........“~,_....................,:`. ......._/.............. ..........{.._$;_......”=,_.......“-,_.......,.-~-,},.~”;/... .}................... ...........((.....*~_.......”=-._......“;,,./`..../”......... ...../............... ...,,,___.\`~,......“~.,....................`... ..}............../............... ............(....`=-,,.......`........................(...... ;_,,-”............... ............/.`~,......`-...............................\.... ../\................. .............\`~.*-,.....................................|,./ .....\,__............ ,,_..........}.>-._\...................................|.. ......... ...`=~-,...... .....`=~-,_\_......`\,.................................\..... ..................... ...................`=~-,,.\,...............................\. ..................... ................................`:,,.............. .............`\..............__ .....................................`=-,..................., %`>--==``............ ........................................_\........ ..._,-%.......`\............... ...................................,<`.._|_,-&``...... ..........`\................
tjb000 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I LOVE House. I've been a fan for a long time now. I've also turned many of my friends and family members onto the show as well. I just think it's a good show that is enjoyable in whatever mood you're in. It's got a perfect mix of drama and comedy. Yeah, it has a few flaws, but what show doesn't? The biggest gripe I usually hear is that it follows the same formula for pretty much every episode. I have to somewhat agree with that, but I can easily look past that. Overall, it's a great show, IMO. I own Seasons 1, 2 and 3 on DVD. I also watch it numerous times on USA Network as well.
Self Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Sounds similar to the old X-Files situation, where by series 20 or so Scully was still a skeptic, despite having a TON of encounters with all kinds of wacky stuff. I'm into my TV. Logical progression of characters is something I appreciate.
infinitywpi Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 In real life, yes, after a few years you'd expect them to figure it out. That's why he fires everyone at the end of Season 3. So he can have a whole new batch of people who question his judgement. I think it's part of his character -- he -wants- to be seen as the unreliable maverick, so when he screws up it's somehow not as bad -- he can blame others for trusting his antics. Although there's plenty of growth for other characters, they all keep the same "I can't believe he's suggesting that" mentality for most of the series.
Prophet Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I think he fired Chase and Foreman, and Cameron quit, which led to the new team being comprised. And House is a brilliant show. Sure, like others have said, there's flaws, but I think they do a good job of shielding some of those even. Even having Kutner mention at one point this season that House is always right. It's not like the inconsistancy of That 70's Show, which showcased Donna's sister in episode 2, and by episode 3, she was an only child. (That bugs me for some reason. lol)
VTial Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I don't follow the series because as with most medical dramas, the antics eventually get tired but they really breathe some new air in Season 3. Even prior to the firing, one of House' underlings got infected by a sickness that House was too late to figure out. He still got it right but the two parter showed how House made so many mistakes, it was the entire side cast that got it right and he was more Sherlock Holmes than Jesus Christ found a miracle.
CQI13 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I absolutely LOVE this show. Currently at the end of season 3. And while some of the medical stuff does get repetitive, as well as questioning House, the characters do seem to be real people for the most part. And Prophet, I believe Foreman quits (at least that's where I'm at in the next to last episode of season 3 -- the one with the chess player). I'm assuming he fires the other two in the next episode.
GruntMark Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I think he fired Chase and Foreman, and Cameron quit, which led to the new team being comprised. The new team with KUMAR! And 13 is way hawter than whatsherface.
Prophet Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 And 13 is way hawter than whatsherface. Yeah, Olivia Wilde makes me feel all tingly inside. And I feel so bad for Kal Penn. The guy plays a doctor on television, teaches a class on Asian American studies at U. of Penn, and if he's not labelled at that White Castle seeking, Doogie lover ... he's Taj! lol I bet he'd be really peeved, if it wasn't for ... the residuals and all. lol
Tha Black Phenom Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 And 13 is way hawter than whatsherface. Amen. Always loved the show, and they did moves which I thought were just right. Like killing off Amber. God, I hated her. She had the right dubbed nickname by House, haha. I do agree that's a part of the show which gets repetitive, but my Achilles heel in that department is how Wilson/Cuddy always gets to "analyze" House and state something about his personality according to whatever happens. I think they've changed up their style lately a bit, but I could be wrong.
mjdgoldeneye Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 This is probably the best show on television and the least talked about for it's greatness... Everyone watches it or at least has seen and enjoyed it on occasion. Honestly, I don't think the show falls for the "Scooby Doo Effect". Sure, House is usually right, but a good 1/3 of the time his suggestions are lethally wrong. He's a perfect anti-hero... His motivations and methods completely oppose his work and success.
Tha Black Phenom Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I love the show's consistency, almost every episode has you laughing or noting some interesting things. Hell, House must have over 200 quotables as of now. And his methods, lol. The moment in that episode where he gave back the gun to that sick guy who took them all into hostage... oh, did I lol.
fatallylost Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Actually, Foreman quit, putting in his 2 weeks. Chase was fired, and Cameron quit. I think season 4 was done really well, trying to introduce new characters / the new team. I also think the last couple episodes of that season are really hard to make you not care about certain characters even more. One thing I always thought was weird, is that after Foreman's brain surgery, when they find out they screwed him up, It was only brought up once or twice, then never again.

dvdWarrior Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 House is actually my favorite show at the moment, has been for a while, (with Psych and Criminal Minds rounding out the top 3), and I'm happy to have the first three seasons on dvd. It has a lot of outstanding episodes, but I think the one with the homeless lady from the first season is probably still my favorite. And House has actually ran into a few other problems, thanks to his attitude and charming bedside manner, the whole thing with Det. Tritter for example. Lots of good stuff here, good show.

I personally really liked the 2 part season finale of last year, I think that's probably my favorite. Though, pretty much every episode has been amazing. I have to say though, bringing up Det. Tritter... That was without a doubt my least favorite storyline they've ever done on House. I like House, and like David Morse, but that storyline/character just didn't really do it for me.

I like House, and like David Morse, but that storyline/character just didn't really do it for me. I'll admit I was happy when that particular storyline ended, but it was an example of House getting himself into a situation. Truth be told, it reminded me of someof my own TEW booking, where I come up with an idea that I think will be good, that turns out to be less so, and then I have to book my way out of it. My apologies for bringing up Tritter, but was it really that bad?

dvdWarrior Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 That 2-part season finale was excellent, don't know how I managed to let that one slip my mind.
tjb000 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Hey there Mr. dvdWarrior. I may be missing something, but don't you think you should be thanking me for turning you on to House? Just messing, I know you appreciate it. In all seriousness though, the whole Tritter storyline is considered to be a 'jump the shark' moment for House. Personally, I didn't have a problem with it, but I hear many people didn't like it.

Shark-jumping? Unthinkable!
infinitywpi Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 At some point, House will treat a stuntman who passed out during a stunt and fell into a shark tank, and have to diagnose him despite the massive body trauma. At some point, someone will ask why he was trying to jump the shark tank in the first place. House will say something witty, and the show will just keep right on going as it has been.
fatallylost Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I wasn't the biggest fan of the Tritter thing, but, it kept me interested as to how he'd get out of it. And, to me, the best, as well, was the season 4 finale. I'm just a big fan of Wilson, what can I say?
CQI13 Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I personally liked the Tritter storyline. It shows that his actions have consequences in his own life. Plus, it was pretty criminal to steal the prescription pad. It was interesting to see them butting heads.
