Masked Superstar Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Just letting those know who haven't heard or read. Tomko recently resigned with WWE and had a dark match. Apparently Travis had gain some weight and was alittle out of shape (ala Chris Harris) and Vince was unthrilled. Johnny Ace who had pushed for Tomko's returned stating his experience in Japan as being really helpful got the brunt of Vince's anger. An option was given to place Tomko in a mask and body suit to hide his weight gain as well as to keep the casual fan from realizing the "recycling" of characters. Tomko refused stating he has worked to hard to try to get his name over both stateside and internationally and couldn't see the benefit. Refusing Vince can't be smart. Point is... Tomko has come and is probably gone again before even debuting on TV.
The Shape Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4qzvTNDi8ss well he was over, not exactly a classic though...just yet more burchill abuse >_> Think he wrestled that with a torn pectoral though...and heard he also didn't tell vince about that.
jagilki Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 In no way at all does he look anywhere near as out of shape has Harris.
Eisen-verse Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 I want to see Tomko back on TV but then again only if the WWE updated their creative approach.... What ever happened to wrestlers debuting within a storyline (whether their own or someone else's)? Now a days wrestlers just debut by being shown a video or something along that lines and then they have their first match. Tomko could be a sweet return if he came in a way that actually made it interesting to follow him.
Masked Superstar Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 In no way at all does he look anywhere near as out of shape has Harris. Agreed. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4qzvTNDi8ss well he was over, not exactly a classic though...just yet more burchill abuse >_> Think he wrestled that with a torn pectoral though...and heard he also didn't tell vince about that. Nice You Tube! Watched and enjoyed. Didn't see a major problem with him. Yeah he had a little ring around the gut, but as ya said a torn pec would have effected his workout regime I am sure. His chain wrestling seemed a little weak at times but again I could blame that on the injury. Otherwise his strongstyle elbows he was throwing at the start looked believeable. I think he could have put over Burchhill alittle better IMO but I think both Tomko & Burchill both deserve the TV time so their talents can succeed. Vince should keep him.
Beeker Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 He looked ok. Not great but ok. Johnny Ace is a tool for so many reasons. Still, if he gets "Braden Walkered" that would be great to add some new lingo the wrestling lexicon. Of course Gail Kim and Christian are on the WWE payroll and have yet to debut so... maybe creative is actually doing a half-assed job for once!
Guest Ransik Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Wow, that match was just plain bad. I don't know if it was the angle... if they don't work well together, or if Tomko has just gotten worse, but that was the worse I've seen Tomko work since a lil before he left WWE the last time. Several times through that match they were obviously going through the motions and not even trying to make it look remotely realistic... basic strikes were sloppy and it looked like Tomko couldn't even lift Burchill up for that powerslam and if I were watching that live and didn't know Paul was fine... I would've jumped a mile in my chair thinking Tomko was going to break his neck. Tomko was ten times better than this the last time I saw him on a TNA show and I find it really sad he can't even perform anywhere near that level and I'm hoping it really is injury related, cause now I understand why Vince was upset, and I know Vinnie Mac never saw him in TNA or Japan to know how much he had improved. Hope he doesn't blow this stint cause from what I've read he didn't exactly leave TNA on a good term.

Cage is still technically under TNA contract as far as I'm aware and there's been zero official talk with WWE on a contract. I know WWE is interested in bringing him back which is why TNA took him off TV but there's definitely been no official statement on him as of yet as to where he's gonna be in 2009.

Guest Ransik Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Thats not the problem they want to put him under a masked and Tomko asked for his release. He didn't ask for his release but told them no to being put under a hood. I'll chalk that up to him going outside the WWE... and seeing as how that company is dead set against using any kind of person or gimmick that was used elsewhere like a small child throwing a tantrum for being told no to getting a new toy... that's a toss-up. For one... Tomko's fault for saying no to an employer... also his fault for being sloppy in the ring and not in proper shape. But then again... WWE creative for being totally lazy and instead of using Tomko's past in the company to their advantage... trying to reinvent him because of some stupid unwritten rule in the company. You know what's funny to me? The product itself is supposed to be a male soap opera, but if the aired all the behind the scenes stuff it would make for an even better drama.
Masked Superstar Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 Thats not the problem they want to put him under a masked and Tomko asked for his release. That is exactly what I said in the first post Deezy.

Couldn't make out who they were chanting for. At times it sounded like it could be either guy. He may have been but you'd need clearer sound to tell. Also, I realize it was a house show and therefore you're not going to get optimal angles. But I couldn't even tell which guy was which.

cappyboy Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 What? I'm calling it like I see it. Being this is a house show it was probably recorded with like a cell phone or something and the filmer's seat appears to be a good ways back in the arena. Not like it's at ringside or recorded with pro caliber equipment. I honestly can't tell.
darthsiddus2 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 you can CLEARLY hear Tomko's name being shouted as well as a bit of burchil's name. and you can EASILY tell which guy was which. are you serious? I know you can't flame here but clearly your post is deserving of one.
Wade Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Hope he doesn't blow this stint cause from what I've read he didn't exactly leave TNA on a good term. He left on fine terms, even reappeared for one show to get squashed.

I know you can't flame here but clearly your post is deserving of one. I'm sorry. But I am 100% serious. At no time did I hear either guy's name clearly. I did hear stuff at times that could be turned into a name. But nothing obvious. Let that say whatever you want it to about the state of my speakers and/or ears. But if I were either joking or lying, I wouldn't be continuing to state it for the third post in a row now. And at the distance that was shot from, I consider myself lucky to know the two men had faces. Much less discern which one was whose.

I disagree with the bolded statement. When introducing (or in this case reintroducing) a character into the WWE Universe, isn't it a good idea to make them look as strong as humanly possible? WWE Fans have seen Paul Burchill for several months now, and he's lost a lot. If Tomko went toe-to-toe with this guy, it implies he's only slightly better, which is way worse than anyone you should care about. Therefore, were I holding the book, Tomko would have completely annihilated Paul Burchill. Just destroyed him in a way that makes Little Timmy Nine-Year-Old think "Oh my God. I don't even think John Cena could beat him!" and therefore buy more t-shirts when Cena inevitably and rightfully does. On a more general note, I like Tomko. I hope his TV debut (should he make it that far) goes better, and we have a new, fresh, strong character in the upper ranks of the WWE mix.
