I'm probably biased seeing how the "Attitude Era" was my fav. time for pro wrestling... however... This roster looks ten times better to me than the one the WWE has right now. Sure, people could make comments saying that the rumble lacked "star power" without mega-stars like John Cena, Batista, etc.... (Seeing how they are huge now)... However to me.. These were the characters I loved!

What the WWE needs right now is another transcendent superstar... I'm not saying in the sense of pulling in the mainstream audience... but rather a character like SCSA or the Rock to make things truly interesting again.

Right now the only main eventers that i'm really into are the likes of Edge, Triple H, and Chris Jericho (and even then... These guys are who were still around back during that time frame).

And I know that he killed his wife and kid, but you cannot erase someone from the annles of history. I mean thebest of the Rumbles collection is missing 98,98,01-07. All of which had Benoit participate. I mean we cannot erase Adolf Hitler from the anles of time. I think that is is bull**** that Vince has all but erased Benoit from WWE history.

A lot of cool nostalgia in that pile. I miss the Mean Street Posse. Rodney was my favourite.

From the Mean Street of Greenwich, man I love those jobbers (ugly matches but good promos though kinda like Santino)

Were I in charge of merchandising, I likely would have not released anything do to with Chris Benoit for at least a year after the incident. The idea of profiting over a product he was involved with, that soon, doesn't sit right with me. I wouldn't have erased him forever, but a long buffer period would have been in place.

P.S. I know nothing of how WWE release DVD's, so take my opinion lightly.

I totally stole that gimmick during High School. I went on work experience to a different town, and when I came back I was talking about my time on "The mean streets of Brecon". A fun few days I had there.

This era is special to me, because back then I couldn't see wrestling skill. I knew it was fake, but I was far less 'inside'. I could simply see if I liked the characters, and see how everyone else reacted, and make my decisions from there. The Posse probably did suck (Foley seemed to think so) but I was blissfully unaware.

2000 Rumble was a classic. That's the one where Taka and Funaki kept doing run-in's, because they got kicked off the card, and the Bossman, I think, threw Taka just right, that he did that full on faceplant into the mat, and shattered his face. And Lawler kept bringing up the replay.

I will admit, I miss Rodney, Pete Gas, and to a lesser extent, Joey Abs, as well. The whole rich thug kid was genius. Shame they never got the chance to show how they'd grown in OVW (if they did, I never saw them once they left television.) One of the most underappreciated gimmicks, in my opinion.

Sometimes I miss those days where there wasn't the online wrestling news out there. I've actually started to stop reading those sites as I try to go back to the old way of watching wrestling... Actually getting a surprise here and there.

Sure they weren't great in the ring... however... They had great characters and they were more as off-shoots of Shane-O-Mac who was BAD ASS back in the day. They didn't even need to be good because they were more about having Shane-O's back.. and selling the "Greenwich Persona".

It's one of the reasons why I kind of liked the Spirit Squad... yea... They were annoying as hell... BUT... At least they had some sense of character and were different than anything else in wrestling at the time.

Man, I love the Spirit Squad, they are like 5 Santinos.Their 4 and 1 match against Shawn Michaels is a classic, its not 5 on 1 coz its not fair lol. Too bad they got shipped back to OVW with Ken "the Jobber" Dykstra and Dolph Ziegler remaining.

:( And WCW was still actually going at this stage (albeit poorly).

About the only things worth note back then was Mike Awesome, Lance Storm, and the Filthy Animals... Wrestling was uber-cool in that period.

Is that the Royal Rumble when too cool dance during the Rumble, great moment?:D

Which version of Mike Awesome :eek:is that then The 70s guy, Big Fat Chick Loving Guy or the Canadian Guy? Filthy Animals vs. The Revolution:rolleyes:

Posted
Personally preferred him as the Career Killer. The other gimmicks whilst funny were not meant for a human wrecking ball like him. He was also good albeit a little under utilised in Team Canada.

Lance Storm was pushed a treat in WCW i loved when he had all those belts and renamed them all to Canadian type names.

Mike Awesome was truely awesome back then but WCW ruined him, all those stupid gimmicks.

Everyone knows Rodney was the best, it's one of life's undisputable facts. :D

First event I watched and I watched bits again the other day, it's so awesome. The whole show was, Tazz's debut and ovation was just amazing.

To say that roster is better though is silly, compare it to the whole of WWE today and well...the only difference is because there was more focus on the midcard, the midcarders were more over and interesting, but proportionally, if you put today's roster in that one's place, you'd be looking at the likes of JBL, Punk, Hardy and so on in the "midcard"'s place.

Thats were they should be in my opinion. There are too many guys in that main event spot just now that just don't fit in. Back then it meant something when someone made main event these days they are just thrust there. Look at the emotion involved when Benoit won the world title at Mania, her worked hard to get there. I've never seen anything like that since.
