Hive Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Is it just me or is the AI's booking outright painfull to follow? It seems so insanely random which people it pitch against each other. I constantly see face/face and heel/heel fights in promotions with a strong face/heel divide (not saying it shouldn't happen once in a while, but not all the time!), tag team members fighting each other, stable members fighting each other, etc... for me, this ruins part of the fun with the game, and I hope it's something that can be look into in the future. Is this a problem for others as well, or is it just me?
FINisher Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Could it be down to the "Booking" skill? It's easy to see the effects of a bad booker.. Or, the only thing you need is a little imagination: Maybe there's a corrupt General Manager in the company?
Hive Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 The booker in question has 93%, so that shouldn't be it.
Phantom Stranger Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Have you checked that neither side of these face/face and heel/heel bouts hasn't been turned earlier?
Hive Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 Have you checked that neither side of these face/face and heel/heel bouts hasn't been turned earlier? Yes.
edenborn Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Having lived through the Vince Russo WCW era, I'm not overly put out by the AI's occasional bad booking. Better AI logic would be a good thing, but honestly I'm not having too much trouble suspending my disbelief as it is.
Blackman Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 It could probably be done but it'll mean longer load times, and it'll prolly take a lot of work from Adam, and with it a lot of time that could've been spend on other aspects of the game.
Genadi Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 The booker in question has 93%, so that shouldn't be it. The promotion may have Face/Heel Divide set at Medium or None? The AI that annoys me the most is when a tag match will headline over two main eventers with a main title on the line.
hakk99 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 It's not a high priority for me but when TEW 08 came out I was initially excited about the fact the AI would start running angles and we would get to see the results. That new feature hasn't been as exciting as I imagined it to be as the AI's booking often does look a bit random and the angles seem unrelated to the matches (understandably). IF the AI could be made to have various booking styles based on product and head booker and AI storylines/feuds had a sense of history it would be an outstanding feature. I would love to regularly check up on the latest Tommy Cornell feud each month or see what happens when SWF hires a new booker, but not having those features isn't taking away much from my enjoyment of the game.

I have had no issues with people of the same disposition fighting each other regularly, so it is likely something about the way your game is set up.

Yes of course it would take time. But it's an absolutely integral part of the game - in fact, I'd argue that it's what makes it a *game* and not just a sandbox.

I'm playing a mod, so I don't think it's fair to take up your time with it. But thanks anyway.
Adam Ryland Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I'm playing a mod, so I don't think it's fair to take up your time with it. But thanks anyway. I'd still like to look at it please. There must be a reason you are experiencing behaviour that shouldn't be happening, I'd like to find out why that is.

There must be a reason you are experiencing behaviour that shouldn't be happening, I'd like to find out why that is. I just took a more throrough look at the savegame, before sending it to you... and I'm embarrassed to say that I discovered that the fault is on my side. Apparantly, the AI had turned a bunch of workers without me noticing it. I was under the impression that when workers of a certain significance are turned, it would be in the headlines... an impression I got when turns by midcarders like Bobby Eaton and One Man Gang constantly hit the headlines - so I assumed that if the AI turned people like Randy Savage, Ric Flair and Lex Luger it would definately hit the headlines as well... but I was obviously wrong. I apologize for not having done a closer look before now instead of just assuming. Though I still hope that tag teams and stables will be handled better in the future.
Adam Ryland Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Though I still hope that tag teams and stables will be handled better in the future. Tag teams are not specifically taken into account as if the two members are a regular tandem they will likely be the same disposition anyway (and so therefore unlikely to fight). If one has been turned, there's no real reason to keep them apart. AI-controlled promotions don't have stables, so they cannot be taken into account at all. (For reference, the AI doesn't use stables as generally a stable is a group of people unified for some specific purpose or style, and obviously the AI has no idea what that is and so can do little to control the membership.)

Yeah I was more talking about the random setup of tag matches - how the AI often choose people with no tag experience to fight alongside each other when one of them has a team mate ready. Oh? I did not know that. Then some of what I see makes a lot more sense, thanks for clearing that up.
Adam Ryland Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Yeah I was more talking about the random setup of tag matches - how the AI often choose people with no tag experience to fight alongside each other when one of them has a team mate ready. It will always pick their regular partner unless the other person is unavailable; this could be because they're not at the show, have already been picked for a match, or if their push is significantly different that they should no longer be considered partners. Issues can arise in certain situations, but mostly these are unavoidable; such as when there's a midcarder with no regular partner (call him wrestler X) who is booked into a tag match, and takes the "best available" person (wrestler Y) who happens to already have a regular partner - because this then sets off a cascade effect if Y's regular partner then gets booked into a tag match, as he then obviously has to take an "odd" partner, which in turn can cause problems for another match....and so on. Unfortunately there's very little that can be done without making tag matches strictly between regular partners, but that doesn't conform to reality either.
