Big Mikey Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I've had this game since about August but I've never really had the time it takes to really get used to this game. Now that I do I was just wondering if the community could give me some help. What promotion would you suggest I use? I've only briefly tinkered with TEW so keep that in my mind. I like a promotion where Angles are a focus but I also want the wrestling to be good as well as to me as fan the angles mean nothing if the match sucks. I also do not want to be too overwhelmed. Any other help for a begginer that you can think of I'd apreciate as well. Also I should mention that I wan't to use the Cornellverse as from what I read it works best and actually seems kind of cool and will allow me to be more creative. Any backstory's to help me out with getting to know the database would certainly be apreciated though. Thank you in advance. - Mike
Hyde Hill Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 read te official tipthread my friend. plus experiment the first couple of games and as soon as you get the hang of it then go for a 'serious' game. You want angles and matches id suggest wlw or tcw maybe cgc.
Self Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008
I personally love CGC, which stands for Canadian.... Glory... Something... I think. I should check at some point.

Essentially they're a Sports Entertainment company who begin the game with just one hour of television a week, which to me, having struggled to get to grips with WWE in Real World mods, was a Godsend. Having just an hour to play with means you can focus on a handful of characters you feel a connection to, and really feel in control of your shows.

Sports Entertainment is incredibly easy to book, because to put on a decent Main Event, you can just look to see who has the best popularity, and make them fight. There are variables of course, but when you're getting starting you can just ignore them. Even a completely mismatched pairing of wrestlers isn't going to hurt when fans love one and despise the other.

- CGC is in Canada, so the big American companies will rarely poach your talent.

- Only 60% of the Hour (that's 36 minutes maths fans) should be matches, the rest is for delicious angles.

- There are quite a few Alternate Pictures for CGC characters, to help inspire booking.

In terms of backstory, CGC are similar to Stampede Wrestling, or wherever the Von Erichs used to be. An olde timey wrestler has started a promotion, and cast his four sons in the roles of all-powerful babyfaces. Pretty much everyone else is trying to kill them.

pepper2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008
CGC also have their own Freebirds with the Elite. Just use the De Colts in all Main event and use them as in tons of angles as they are king in the entertainment skills except for the youngest De Colt

You can try SWF which is just another name for WWE cornelverse but you can get a bit overwhelmed with their big roster. They have their monsters with Vengeance and Runaway Train. They have decently talented guys but who can carry promos and angles. They even have a Shane McMahon who has only decent wrestling skills. The there are talented guys who can carry anyone like Christian Faith, Rich Money and Lobster Man

They are rated on populairty so just focus your main event with your MEs so you can have decent match ratings.

I realize most people would say 'WWE' but for someone who has seen more than just one product type, it helps to know what they prefer to see in a wrestling show. If you know what kind of promotion you like, it makes it easier to suggest a promotion to start with. Just DO NOT start with a real world mod. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT. If you know nothing about the game, a real world mod (depending on its quality, which can vary widely) can seriously turn you off the game. Once you get familiar with the game's basic workings, then maybe a real world mod would work. Until then, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot since familiarity clouds your view. Yes, you know who Orton, Cena, and Angle are which will make your own personal opinion of those workers obfuscate the realities of the workers and the game itself. Put Cena in NOAH and he'd stink up the joint (gobs of overness or not), unless the mod maker inflated his stats. You won't notice these things as a newbie to the game.

So if you could describe your ideal wrestling show, what would it look like?
