I was very pleasantly surprised to see this posted today. I was optimistically hoping for it to start tomorrow. Adam always does a great job with the journals.

January 2nd: Play-By-Play

One of the biggest changes to the game is the switch to full play-by-play for match reports. Rather than seeing the entire fight report at once, it now unfolds on a line-by-line basis, simulating two announcers calling the match.

The user can skip forward one line at a time to see the fight unfold dramatically, or can choose to skip straight to the end to see the result. Using the Next and Previous buttons provided, the user can move back and forth through the commentary at will.

Unlike WMMA1, where round descriptions were pre-written, in WMMA2 they are created dynamically, meaning that it is rare for any two fights to be identical. For example, if two fighters are standing facing each other, the computer does not know what will happen next - that will be decided by the two fighters' skills and AI. This makes for more realistic matches and fighter behaviour.

What a great addition. It will make matches a lot more exciting.

I wasn't one of the guys that really wanted line by line play-by-play, but the improved system sounds better than I hoped, I would have been satisfied with more script, can't wait for this game.

Everything sounds great so far. I think line-by-line PBP is definitely the best way to go in an MMA simulation game. The commentary in WMMA 1 wasn't bad or anything but I always hated seeing the result of a fight before I got the chance to read the entire PBP.

I did want a improved PBP but i don't see how this one will be better?

I'm not really sure what you mean - the improvements (it being a more realistic and more varied system) are described in the journal entry. Those are pretty much the big two things that will make any play by play system better, what other improvements were you looking for?

Instead of, "Fighter A grabs for a guillotine, Fighter B lands a vicious hook, Fighter A is knocked out cold", happening the same way everytime, the new PBP will allow for variation, you won't see that same line the same way everytime.

I just wanted to know what it actually meant.

Please don't confuse this great game with the clowns that run WAMMA :).

I'm with Mr Tricky and play-by-play wasn't exactly one of the things high on my wish list. Though I hope that dynamic fight progression will lessen the number of head kick KO's.

LOL I didn't even notice that :o

This sounds like a good idea I don't really care much for reading everything I'm usually just concerned with the results but I like this because it brings more excitment. I often found myself if one round went to fighter A and 1 to fighter B covering the screen with my hand and slowly reading and moving my hand as round 3 advanced :p

I think I have a tendency to agree as the dynamic fighting is probably the REAL feature here more than moving through the commentry phase by phase, although I'm sure its gna be fun for reading a highly anticipated main event!

I sure hope this is not a June release, that is way off the original "early 2009" annoucement.

About the 1st post, personally i rarely read through the match and simply go to the results, however i can see how this will be good for those Huge matches.;)

I doubt there will be a pre-order of the game available as the game will be released by digital download.

It's been done before, although maybe not with ELicense. Just saying it may not be such a bad idea with people clamoring for it + holiday money burning a hole in some pockets (atleast anyone under 18 anyways, personally I'm a few hundred dollars down *shrug*).

True. I tended to read through them all. After all, there's only like 1 show a month at most so it's worth your while. This is however a huge factor that'll contribute to me reading all of them since in WMMA you easily recognised double notes you already saw before. So it's already a huge plus for me. I'll probly buy it already: I trust Adam that the next line of improvements will make it worth my while. :)
