This scenario in progress is loosely based off of the idea of iDomination and NWA Domination with a bit of a twist, my spin on things, if you will. It will be for TEW 2008 in a world where the NWA (headed by Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling) is at war with the WWE. The various other territories in the NWA do the best that they can to succeed but are basically seen as a proving ground for MACW. There are a couple of other smaller independent promotions who are trying to rise up, but none are really doing that well. ECW has not rejoined the NWA but has a loose working relationship with them (to a point where the NWA World Heavyweight Title has been contested at ECW shows).

All history will remain basically the same up until the night that Shane Douglas threw the NWA World Heavyweight Title down. He still did it, however this made the NWA realize that they needed more control over the belt and tried to restart a lot of the old promotions.

This thread will detail my progress and give some inside info into the different promotions and the wrestlers that make them a success. Suggestions are welcome.

The main promotions decided upon as of now are:

-Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling (Owned and booked by Ric Flair, the NWA flagship promotion.)

-World Wrestling Entertainment (Owned by Vince McMahon, the number 2 promotion in the world. A big force, but their more drama focused style of wrestling has not succeeded as much as it did in real life.)

-Georgia Championship Wrestling (NWA member. Owned by the Armstrong Family and booked by "Stretch" Armstrong (BG James). Often used a proving ground before wrestlers make the move to MACW.

-Championship Wrestling from Florida (NWA member. Often seen as the 'graveyard' of wrestling. Where the older stars go to see out the end of their careers.)

-Extreme Championship Wrestling (NWA associate. Owned and booked by Paul Heyman. Just as edgy as they used to be.)

-Unnamed Texas promotion (NWA member. Real old school type fed.)

-Unnamed California promotion (NWA member. The NWA's alternative to the WWE, aired on MTV.)

-Unnamed Canadian promotion (NWA member. Largely ran by the Hart's. Well known for its work rate matches as opposed to its storylines.)

What happened to WCW? You said history was the same up untill the Shane Douglas incident, but the history of Jim Crocket Promotions/MACW/WCW sure does sound different...

That will be revealed in a future post.

Part 1 of the History of the NWA, 1994 on. This will more than likely be altered/cleaned up before the scenario is released.

The History of the NWA 1994 - 1997

Pictured: Multiple time NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Icon" Sting

August 17, 1994 - Shane Douglas' famous speech made many people believe that the NWA was nearing its death. Douglas renounced everything the NWA stood for and spat on former NWA World Heavyweight Champions. His speech led Eastern Championship Wrestling to break away from the NWA and become Extreme Championship Wrestling.

It took the NWA until December 11 to crown a new champion, a man who is an icon in the sport. The NWA had pulled off a major coup and with the newly reformed Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling company's first show, Sting defeated "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan for the title to much fanfare.

Many blame MACW for the death of WCW. World Championship Wrestling was at the time owned by Ted Turner and booked by Eric Bischoff. Bischoff was seen as fastly becoming one of the top bookers in professional wrestling and when MACW managed to swoop him up, WCW's ratings quickly fell. Turner, seeing that his pet project was failling on his own networks, pulled the plug. With a crop of stars now out of jobs, various companies around America began signing up big name stars to appear on their shows. The independant wrestling scene was suddenly huge.

Many of the stars of WCW migrated to MACW, simply because of the similar old school NWA feel. Ric Flair was one of the first stars along with Sting to sign up and they quickly began a feud for the ages, lasting the better part of two years. In one infamous moment, Flair won the title off of Sting in his debut appearance for MACW, but was overuled by the NWA board of directors who said that he was not registered as an official NWA competitor at the time. This was the last time Ric Flair ever 'won' the NWA World Heavyweight title.

Sting dominated MACW as MACW slowly started to pull in good ratings (they had been picked up by Ted Turner's networks - in fact, the man himself had bought a large stake in the company, still seeing profit in the wrestling game) as they began to compete with the World Wrestling Federation.

Whilst most of 1995 was all about Flair feuding with Sting, a major steal from the WWF took place when Kevin Nash (known as Diesel in WWF) showed up in MACW, quickly dominating and winning the MACW Heavyweight title. It didn't take Nash long before he challenged Sting for the NWA World Heavyweight title and the big man managed to pull it off on the 17th of December.

1996 started off with controversy as Sting won the title back from Kevin Nash (February 18, 1996) and Nash jumped back to the WWF. Mystery still surrounds this subject, but it was enough of an issue to see Nash blacklisted from MACW, something that has yet to be lifted today. In interviews, Ric Flair (who was currently booking MACW with Bischoff) called Nash, "a worthless sack of crap who was only interested in himself,".

Whilst '96 was a good year for MACW and Sting had plenty of challengers, there seemed to be few people who were actually ready to step up and be the champion. MACW were forced to make a decision in early May when Sting complained of knee trouble, something that caused him to take several months off. In his last match before his time off, Sting dropped the belt to Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy. An odd choice to most, Flair has revealed his decision was based upon the fact that he knew Gordy was reliable in a time when they didn't have Sting to fall back on.

MACW finished 1996 with a bang as had almost become tradition when in November, WWF star Bret "The Hitman" Hart jumped ship after a falling out with Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon, leading to them screwing him out of the WWF title. Hart debuted with a bang and immediately challenged Gordy for the title, a match which took plcae on November 24, with Hart victorious MACW was bringing in better ratings than they ever had and were actually close to beating the WWF for several weeks.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/razorsedge69907/hart1.jpg

Pictured: Hart during his "Commonwealth Coalition" days

Hart held the belt for 364 days. His first challenge was former champion Gordy, whom he ended up beating in a loser leaves town match. Hart fought off heel challengers such as Diamond Dallas Page, Lex Luger and Vader for a very successful title reign until Hart eventually shocked the world by turning heel. Hart had formed a stable known as "The Commonwealth Coalition" (later shortened to "The Coalition") alongside his brother Owen, The British Bulldog and Lance Storm. Hart displayed his disdain for all things America and became one of the most hated men in America with almost any American whether they were heel or face, cheered against him.

It was not until November 23, 1997 when current MACW Heavyweight Champion and former NFL player Bill Goldberg (who had debuted earlier in the year and been on an impressive winning streak) get his shot at the NWA title that Hart finally lost his precious belt.

The era of Goldberg had arrived.

It doesn't sound all that drastically different than what really happened. Your MACW doesn't sound all that different from WCW (another name but same big stars and same tv slot). Maybe you should throw in bigger changes, to shake things up a bit.

Nash going back to the 'F isn't a big change?

It's still basically the historical WWF vs. WCW, only with the latter having a different name and a slightly altered roster.

Wow, the guy just announced he's working on a scenario that sounds interesting and having barely started revealing the details people are already criticizing, how about letting the guy put together the scenario then maybe giving some "helpful tips." And, the great thing about a scenario is that if you don;t like it you don't have to play it.

Dude, I'm trying to give him constructive feedback from the information given. And I'd say it's a lot better to suggest going in a slightly different direction *now*, when he (presumeably) haven't done a lot of work yet. Now, his direction isn't as much set in stone as it will be later.

Agreed with this man. Don't like the idea? Don't download and play it.

I'd love to know how history is not that different. Hogan and Nash are not even there, so the nWo which was resonsible along with Austin and a few others for the huge wrestling take off.

I do say the names is similar, but actually this is a whole new take on history, there is nothing the same really.

Where does it say if you to an altered history mod things have to be completely different? Honestly just a slightly different take on history appeals to me more than some scenarios where people die or alternate universes open up or what have you. This sounds plausible and awesome.

Hope this puppy comes to light.

I'll guess the Canadian promotion is obviously Calgary Stampede populated with all the Hart babies (Harry Smith, Nattie, Teddy, etc.) lead by Bret.. maybe Owen? Eh? Just a request there, I have no problem with people who are deceased being in mods like this. It can be argued if the territories were more alive and vibrant, Owen might never have had his fall. Besides.. Bret and Owen versus Harry Smith and TJ Wilson sounds awesome.

The Texas promotion I'd love to see something terribly old school maybe with Kevin von Erich, Dory Jr and Terry Funk, maybe someone like Bradshaw or Steve Austin as the focal point.

And I'm going out on a limb and saying the California based promotion is headed by Bischoff.

Any chance of seeing a resurrected AWA in this mod? Greg (the actual son of Verne, not that ******* Dale that ran AWA Superstars) Gagne maybe getting inspired to reopen the AWA's doors seeing as a collapsed WCW left so many fresh exciting stars on the market. Maybe in a position ECW's in, a friendly working agreement with the NWA but working as an independent entity. Have guys like Steve Corino, CW Anderson, Rhino, Robert Roode, Eric Young, whomever.. new school guys with a classic feel to them. I'd play the crap out of that promotion.

Posted

I would definately call the Texas promotion WCCW, perhaps owned by Kevin Von Erich, andbooked by Dory or Terry Funk, and I would also add AWA with Greg Gagne to the game. I agree the obvious name for the Canadian one is Stampede.

Sounds very interesting. Can't wait to play it.

Thanks for the criticism and feedback, it'll obviously help to make the mod better in the long run.

Now to answer a few questions... (if you have questions on your favourite wrestlers (alive or dead) feel free to ask, I may even post an article on them :))

-I was considering adding the AWA, however that isn't set in stone yet.

-Texas territory is owned and booked by the Funks, and is the home to the semi-retired former three-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Steve Austin.

-Owen is alive and well. At the time he had his fall in real life he is in the middle of his first NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship reign.

-Hogan has never wrestled in a NWA ring.

Part one of the history of the WWF/E. Their history is much closer to real life than NWA/MACW's at this point. Again, this back story is not final.

History of the WWF/E 1994 - 1997

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/razorsedge69907/hart2.jpg

Pictured: Former WWF/E World Heavyweight Champion "Hitman" Bret Hart

When Shane Douglas threw down the NWA World Heavyweight title the WWF were in a rut. Hulk Hogan had taken time off to pursue a movie career and was strongly rumoured to be jumping ship to rival promotion WCW. Instead Hogan spent 1994-1996 appearing in a series of movies that were mildly successful despite being critical flops. During this period Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels carried the company on their backs.

1994 ended with Hart feuding with Bob Backlund who was 45 years old by this point. The feud culminated with a submission "Throw In The Towel" match at Survivor Series. With Owen Hart in Backlund's corner and The British Bulldog in Bret's. After Bulldog was knocked unconscious on the ring steps, Owen Hart convinced his mother Helen to throw in the towel for Bret, showing concern for his brother. Owen, of course, was deceiving them and was overjoyed that Backlund won.

Backlund lost the title three days later at a WWE house show when Diesel (AKA Kevin Nash) defeated him easily. Diesel went on to have a somewhat boring reign over the next year before finally being defeated by Bret Hart (now in his 3rd reign as WWE Champion) at Survivor Series '95.

During 1995 the WWE built Shawn Michaels up as a constant thorn in the side of Bret Hart, and the two had a small feud including a match at SummerSlam which Michaels lost. Michaels finally realized his dream at WrestleMania 12, defeating Bret Hart to win the World title. He had a successful reign which mainly consisted of him feuding with Bret Hart as the WWE relied on tried and tested superstars and feuds. Hart picked up the title again in August for his 4th reign and the stage was set for perhaps the most controversial moment in wrestling history.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/razorsedge69907/hbk.jpg

Pictured: Multiple time WWF/E World Heavyweight Champion "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels

At Survivor Series 1996, in Montreal, Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart to win the title. Michaels had Hart locked in his signature Sharpshooter submission when WWE Chairman Vince McMahon instructed the referee to call for the bell, signaling a win by submission for Michaels. Hart's contract had been due to run out and he had not re-signed, weighing up the options of switching to the NWA or remaining with the WWE. With the event dubbed the "Montreal Screwjob", Hart signed his contract with the NWA and won the NWA World Heavyweight Title only nine days later.

Michaels reign was short lived considering the controversy surrounding his win, he lost the title at the Royal Rumble to Sycho Sid. But, perhaps the bigger story of the Royal Rumble was the return of one of the biggest stars in wrestling. After an almost three year hiatus, Hulkamania ran wild once again, as Hulk Hogan was a surprise entrant in the Rumble, entering at number 20 and winning the event. As a reward, Hogan was presented with a WWE Title shot at WrestleMania 13.

Hogan and Sid feuded up until WrestleMania, constantly interrupting each others matches. The feud finally ended when Hulk Hogan once again headlined WrestleMania, defeating Sid after a big boot and that famous leg drop to become WWE Champion for the 6th time.

Hogan held the belt for the rest of 1997, having high profile feuds with Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels, Sycho Sid and Vader.

Hulkamania seemed to be on track to run wild into the new millennium.

You may not want to do this, and it is completely your decision, but I would love to see a Sport Entertainment type promotion, but focusing primarily on 2 vs 2, a bit of 3 vs 3, and then odd bits of singles action....I might be on my own though...
Posted

I know the Funks' territory was called Western States Sports, but that seems to me to be a pretty bad name for a modern promotion, so that could be difficult to name seeing as you are using real teritory names. Not sure bout that one...

Perhaps you could have it be the Funk territory, but just add Kevin Von Erich as well, and also considering Austin got his start there, it would make sense to use the name WCCW. It would mean as much as GCW or MACW or CWF.

Posted
I would love a mod scenario where the Von Erich's never self destructed. Opens up all kinds of possibilities. Good luck with this RazorsEdge :)
