Stennick Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I consider myself damn near obsessed with football. So far I've been 0-2 in predicting playoff wins but I should get back up to 500 after today. I didn't expect the Falcons and Colts to both CHOKE like they did. The Falcons I can understand I mean last year they were awful and this year was Matt Ryans first playoff game, they shut down Turner and without turner Ryan really had to rely on the pass and their offense isn't designed for that. Flat out they shut down Turner. I wouldn't even say it was their secondary on defense that last them the game since they had a few short plays that went long. Their defense couldn't stop Fitzgerald. None the less there is NO WAY Arizona wins next week. The Colts where do I even begin with them. Their defense was employing the bend but don't break rule all night. The Chargers put together some long drives that either resulted in turnovers or just out of field goal range. At the same time Manning was rattled the whole night. They kept bringing heat, getting him out of the pocket. They didn't sack him a lot but they had pressure on him the whole night and he was all over the place with his throws. He never really dissected the defense like he usually does. None the less the Colts had this game handed to them on a silver platter. Three penalties that resulted in first downs and two of them coming on third down. Hell ONE of them they had them on fourth down. The Colts defense did a piss poor job all game I felt aside from a timely turnover or two they let Sproles run them over. Today Philly and Baltimore should walk out with wins. At this point I guess I'm going for a GGGGG Men and Steelers Super Bowl.

supershot Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 i predict the superbowl the ravens & the giants.
SHaynes23 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 My two favorite teams both have byes, and I'm going for them to face each other in the Super Bowl.....Giants vs. Titans.
chris caulfield Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'm 0-2 so far in predicting aswell but the way the Ravens vs. Dolphins game is going now I should be 1-2 and then I will hope for a Viking win. My superbowl prediction is the Titans going up against the Giants or my darkhorse team the Vikings.
ShadowedFlames Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 i predict the superbowl the ravens & the giants. I can work with that. I'll even call the final, too: Ravens 31, Giants 7... why does that sound SO familiar?
Masked Superstar Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 1-1 in playoff predictions. Co-workers thought I was nuts going with the Cards! picking Philly & Ravens today. Super Bowl I got Carolina vs Pittsburgh.
MattitudeV2 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I can work with that. I'll even call the final, too: Ravens 31, Giants 7... why does that sound SO familiar? Classic Superbowl but I believe it will be Carolina and Tennesee.
angeldelayette Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I want Carolina and Tennessee for the rights to the Smash and Dash nickname! lol. I'm a huge Carolina Panthers fan. In fact I have nearly every game recorded for the past seven years. I also want to see Tennessee get there because of Kerry Collins. The guy's an alcoholic racist loser who gave up on his team. Look it up if you don't believe me. I want to see him get sacked into the ground so often....Yeah, I'll stop there. lol.
Stennick Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 I don't see Tennessee getting to the super bowl, hell I don't know if they'll win their game next week. Steelers vs. G Men, or maybe Chargers vs. G Men
Comradebot Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I don't see Tennessee getting to the super bowl, hell I don't know if they'll win their game next week. Steelers vs. G Men, or maybe Chargers vs. G Men I'm currently 1-1, picking San Diego and Atlanta to win (even though I was cheering for the Cards!) Nah, Titans were idiots and rested their players week 17 while they have the bye. That always leads to ungood levels of rustiness. If the Ravens advance to play them, which I believe they will, they'll destroy Tennessee. The only team that can realistically stop Baltimore in the AFC is the Steelers. The Ravens D is playing just as good as their Super Bowl year, and now they actually have an offense of sorts with Joe Flacco under center. In the NFC... Eagles will beat the Vikings. Philly is on fire, and Minnesota has looked like crap at the end of the year, and honestly I think they made it to the playoffs mostly by luck of Chicago and Green Bay also sucking. Westbrook and McNabb will tear them up, and they won't have the offense or intelligent coaching (Childress=worst coach in the playoffs, worse than Norve Turner) to keep up in points. And I just saw the Ravens/Dolphins game has already started, with the Ravens leading and driving. Hah, I knew it.
Stennick Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 I like Mason on the Raven's offense and they can run the ball. Their offense is acceptable, its on par with any of the other smash mouth offenses such as the Titans, Steelers and Ravens. The Ravens are very good and their game against the Steelers this year was the best game I watched all year. Don't exclude San Diego yet. Their the something different in the AFC. They don't have the smash mouth running back. However I think San Diego, Ravens, Steelers and Titans all have some VERY good defenses.
Comradebot Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 No, I'm not counting ANY team out of it. At the start of the season, before any games had been played, I picked Arizona as the break out team of the year that'd make the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl. People laughed at me, saying Arizona wouldn't win five games. Some of these were the same folks who laughed at me when I see Tamba Bay would go the Super Bowl... and that Carolina would make the Super Bowl... So, I'd love Arizona to pull the miracle upset against whoever next week and keep going. They're definetely the least likely team to make it, but I can hope, right? G-Men are still my pick as of now for the NFC SB rep. But go Cards.
mad5226 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I wanted to see a Manning Vs. Manning superbowl. Seeing as that isn't going to happen. I think it's going to be tough for anyone to get by Baltimore's Defense. With that being said I have Giant and Ravens superbowl.
jbergey_2005 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'm currently 1-1, picking San Diego and Atlanta to win (even though I was cheering for the Cards!) They ended the year winning 5 out of 6(only loss was to the Falcons in which they dominated the entire game, lost because of 7 fumbles) or if you want to go further 7 out of 9 FYI. They played their best football at the end of the year. I do agree with your Childress analysis.
iceman Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 As a Ravens fan I'm pleased with how we've ended the season. The big win in Dallas, the solid win against the Jags and now antoehr good win in Miami. Hopefully we can go all the way, but the AFC is looking really competitive.
Mr T Jobs To Me Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Tennessee is head and shoulders above the rest of the league. Titans over Panthers.
MattitudeV2 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Tennessee is head and shoulders above the rest of the league. Titans over Panthers. Damn me and you have the same picks for the Superbowl.
Stennick Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 That Philly game was really good the first half. Then Jackson remembered he sucked at QB and wound up going something like what 1/12 passing down the stretch. Peterson had that one break out run other than that they kept him contained. I hate to say it but Philly is looking real good at just the right time. The NFC really is wide open. I can't get behind the Panthers being a real threat, the G Men look very mortal the last few weeks, Philly who knows which Philly is going to show up and the Cards, well I think they showed the world what they were about before the playoffs started a win against Atlanta doesn't change that for me. My predictions this week in the NFC are the Giants and Panthers. Although after that Philly game I really want to lean towards them but I'll stick to the Giants. The AFC man Ravens/Tenn I see The Baltimore Ed Reed's winning this thing. I know there is a ton of Titan love on these boards and I love the city of Nashville but I don't see the Titans winning this one. I know they won 13-10 last time but 13-10 means anybody's ball game. Baltimore walks out of this one with a win. The Steelers/San Diego game I'd love to lean towards SD but I think the Steelers proved their defensive worth all season. Sproles will not eat up their D like he did Indy's. Without Sproles, they got no LT. I don't see Rivers and his band of recievers beating this Steeler's D. So in other words Panthers vs. G Men, Steelers vs. Ravens

So in other words Panthers vs. G Men, Steelers vs. Ravens 13-10 was in Baltimore's house, I'm calling 24-14 Titans this time, they're at home with 2 weeks rest. People tend to make too much of a dominating wild card performance, and I've already seen Baltimore starting to become a sexy bandwagon pick. Not gonna happen. I think San Diego is better off with Sproles than washed up LT... But I just can't take them over the Steelers. I want to though. Screw it, Captain Concussion throws 3 picks and the Chargers upset the Steelers 19-17. As for the NFC, the G-Men don't have the chip on their shoulders that they did last year and have looked like crap since Cheddar Plax shot himself. Eagles pour it on as the Giants fold, 38-20. And the Panthers vs. Arizona. Well, Arizona stopped Turner but I don't trust them at all on the road and I think they'll have a much tougher time doing it to Carolina. Panthers 27, Cardinals 13.
CQI13 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Most games in the NFL are close. Look at the Dolphins last year (9 very close games) or the Lions this year (8 close games).

Not wanting to brag or anything but the Ravens just knocked off the number seed in the AFC!
FuelFan0102 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 As a Marylander living in Arizona, this is a fantastic time to be a sport fan!
Stennick Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 I knew the Titans wouldn't beat Baltimore. The Ravens are playing some nasty D right now. The Titans like the Panthers had a very good season but I think they both got hyped up way too much. Especially with the Steelers having the number 1 D in the NFL and the Ravens being turnover machines. Week 15 we saw Ravens vs. Steelers 13-9 game, number 1 D vs. number 2 D I believe. That was my favorite game the whole year and pretty much from that point on I knew it'd be these two left standing in the AFC. Again the NFC is almost just an afterthought. I don't see any NFC team beating any team in the AFC not named the Chargers in the Super Bowl. I picked the G Men earlier in the week and I'll stand by that but I don't be shocked one bit if Philly is flying to Arizona next week. However I will be shocked if the Cards make it to the Super Bowl.
Grudge Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I've actually done incredibly well with predictions, the only games I've gotten wrong where the two the cards were in. Those sneaky bastards I'll take the Giants by 3 and the Steelers by 5 Only thing I'm worried about is Jim Johnson he could very well pull one out for the Eagles tonight if Jacobs is not healthy
