Guest Ransik Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I've noticed that no matter what I seem to do... if two workers have great chemistry, if you put them in gimmick matches they 90% of the time get a lower rating than having a 1 on 1 match. I have WWE Armageddon coming up... my 2 Main Events are CM Punk vs. Jericho and Triple H vs. Edge... both matches will get As or A+s if I just have them 1 on 1. But I know if I put them in some type of a gimmick match, it will most certainly get a lower rating... even if there is no specific talent such as Brawling or Hardcore needed for it. Does anyone know why this is?
Derek B Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I can honestly say that I've never seen this in the years (game time) of play I've had. The gimmick matches have always given me improved results, with the higher the match prestige for the match is, the bigger the improvement. The most recent example from my games that I can think of is the cage match I had with James Justice vs T-Rex. Their 3 previous encounters had rated C, C+ and C+. And the cage escape match rated at B-... yes, T-Rex is capable of B- matches in a USPW ring. So it's probably something in your booking style. I know I book my PPVs in a slightly different style to my TV shows, usually longer matches with fewer (but longer) mostly hype angles. It has a knock on effect on the crowd and that has a bit of a knock on effect on the matches themselves. PPVs for me aren't about getting people over, they are about delivering the big ratings and so the shows are very different. Perhaps something similar is effecting your own shows.
FINisher Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Seconded what derek_b said.. Gimmick matches have always enhanced the rating of the match on my games. Maybe you were just having bad night, low crowd mood and stuff like that. Momentum change, popularity change.. The posibilities are endless.
sabataged Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 My guess is the match is too risky for the promotion
Hyde Hill Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Aye whats your product settings? They prolly dont like risky matches at all.
hakk99 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Playing with FREEDOM I've had little luck with cage matches. Puerto Rican Power is best at brawling so I've tried putting him in a cage a couple of times and it rarely adds anything, and even seems to hurt. FCW is heavy traditional, I believe. Other gimmick matches have generally helped. Though not enough that I use them very much.
Guest Ransik Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I had Punk and Jericho do TLC and it only got a B, whereas a 1 on 1 I did with them 3 months prior got an A... and they're both much higher in popularity than that first time around... Punk is up from a B to an A+ and Jericho is about the same as he started which is an A (both in US.) Had Triple H & Edge do a Last Man Standing which only got an A... whereas their last match about a month prior got an A+. So I dunno... with TEW 2008 I can hardly ever pull off a successful gimmick match regardless.
Derek B Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 It might also just be me, but I often find that the first time you put a pairing together they often have a better match than in subsequent match ups. I remember in TEW07 when I had Valiant debut in the SWF against Enforcer Roberts... the match pulled a shocking A*, but they never got near that again. But to be honest, there are so many factors that weigh in to people having a good match. If yourun through a card, exit the game before the end of it, then run through it again you often find several differences in the results. Sometimes you get higher than expected ratings... sometimes lower than expected ratings. But to me, pretigious gimmick matches are among the most consistent methods of improving a match rating which is why much of my booking strategy (prior to my relatively gimmick match free USPW game) builds towards a big gimmicky match at a feud blow-off. I know I've used a match repeatedly in the last 6 months, so I use a big match to ensure I don't hit any booking penalties and I never, ever get hit with them.
Hyde Hill Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Concerning the booking penelties I tend to plan 6 months ahead with my major feuds so I dont get hit by them.
FINisher Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Concerning the booking penelties I tend to plan 6 months ahead with my major feuds so I dont get hit by them. I book on the fly, maybe just planning next months big event's main event a month earlier. That's all. I hardly do any longterm plans but subconsiously I have the big storylines planned in my head but I just don't know about them until the voice in my head reminds me of them
