UkWrestleFan Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I often find myself needing to rename workers to fit gimmick changes or apperace changes. I've seen some excellent suggestions floating around (the best being Texas Pete being renamed 'Tombstone') so thought it might be used ful to have a thread. Currently, I'm looking for a new name for that awesome Robbie Retro alt. I don't want it to be too gimmicky. All I've got so far is Robbie Riot (stealing from a FCW diary where somebody renamed Nicky Champion to Nicky Riot)
FINisher Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Somebody? That's Tigerkinney's Puerto Rican Self Preservation Society: Version 2.0 (Cornellverse) But hmm. Someone actually did invent different names for Robbie but I can't remember them.. Renegade Robbie? Robbie Rapture.. I don't know. Larry Wood is someone with lots of names. Hardwood, Redwood, Deadwood etc.. And Pisschrist in my diaries. There's some great alternative names in the diaries
Self Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Done a ton of name changes in my CGC game (almost 3 years in!) often due to the fact that I search for workers using the keyboard, so prefer everyone to have a unique letter at the beginning of their name. I also try to keep less than 26 guys on my roster, but at National that can be tricky. Ryan Powell became 'Vivacious' Ryan when he joined the Feather Boa Society, V-Ry when he dropped that to become a rapper, then Killer-V when he went heel again. Eddie Chandler was the ultra-camp boa-wearing 'Fabulous' Eddie before turning into ultra-camp, suit-wearing 'Corporate' Edwin Chandler. The Natural always becomes Quinn Carvill in my games. I just feel it matches his fellow Can-Am Blonde better. The Big Problem became XXL. Lee Rivera and Shane Nelson became Thrilla' Rivera and Stylin' Shane. Steve Flash became Perfect Flash, as I already had a 'Steve' on the roster. Greg Gauge became Keith Gauge after I kept accidentally selecting Grease Hogg instead of him. Byron became Lord Byron. Edward Cornell became, for reasons I can't quite remember, Billy The Kid. Larry Wood became, succinctly, Wood. Art Reed, Barry Kingman and Kirk Jameson have had spells as Shooter Art Reed, Shooter Barry Kingman and Shooter Leon Jameson at different points in time. Oddly Shooter Sean Deeley is now just named Sean Deeley. Continuing the tag team trend, The Specialists; Bobby Thomas and Nate Johnson found God and became Archangel Robert and Archangel Nathan; The Archangels of Death.

FINisher Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I actually take my ideas for events, tag teams and wrestler names from song titles.. Pisschrist is from a band called Fear Factory, and the Rapture was from Hurt.
UkWrestleFan Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 In my SWF game I've renamed Frederique Antonio Garcia to Freddie Garcia.
Masked Superstar Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Current game brought in Eddie Howard simply due to the awesome pimp alt. for him in the Alternative pic thread. Ended up calling him Superpimp Eddie Licious. Same game I brought in Billy Russell and used the turban'd sheik alt and called him Sheik Hussein Bilshir El-Ruu. Again same game brought in Lead Belly and called him Dirty White Boy teaming with Giant Brody in the team Big Dirty. I am sure there are others in ex-games but of course the current game I am playing is on my mind.
benjacko Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I've repackaged Frederique Antonio Garcia in my SWF game as Natas, an Occult worshipper. (Yes, Natas is Satan spelt backwards ).
pantaloons Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I renamed Jack Giedroyc to Heroic when I teamed him with Valiant. It sounds pretty close ot his real last name.
Sigilistic Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Glad you like the Tombstone name! That's probably the biggest name change I've done. I also tend to rename Frederique Antonio Garcia to a less offensive name.
Derek B Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Frederique IMO is best teamed up with Joe Sexy, Zeus Maxmillion and Jenny Playmate as a group of vain models out to self promote themselves to the very top of the world. Joe Sexy is the Rick Rude type... and I like to have Zeus be particularly paranoid about his looks and panic if anyone touches his head or face, so he uses a lot of headlocks and stuff to stop people doing that... and Frederique tries to get Andre Jones to do everything for him, even though he's not allowed into the stable. Leads to Andre having something to do too, as he ends up being treated as badly as Ted Dibiase used to treat Virgil.
Macca316 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 and I like to have Zeus be particularly paranoid about his looks and panic if anyone touches his head or face, so he uses a lot of headlocks and stuff to stop people doing that... Maybe he should request to wrestle only in san diego rules matches, 1 rule no touching of the hair or face.
Derek B Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Maybe he should request to wrestle only in san diego rules matches, 1 rule no touching of the hair or face. Well, Zeus is part Greek so he would have as good a claim as anyone on using Olympic rules... and I'm sure that guys like Shooter Sean Deeley would be more than happy to take that offer.
Nachtfalter Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I renamed Jack Giedroyc to Heroic when I teamed him with Valiant. It sounds pretty close ot his real last name. I like that one. It always confuses me to have two Jacks (Giedroyc and Bruce) on the roster so I usually just dropped the first name and called the less important Jack simply 'Giedroyc'. One name change I did in pretty much all my TCW games is dropping the American Buffalo gimmick and name and repackaging him as 'David Harrison'. I usually put him in the Syndicate as an Enforcer type character and I needed a normal sounding name for that. Let's see, what else. I renamed Steve Flash to 'Flash Stevens' because I had some other Steve on the Roster. Same with Steven Parker who became 'Parker Stevens'. That was in a different game, though. Otherwise I probably would've tried to team them up as Stevens Brothers or something Rick Law became 'The Law' after a heel turn. But I didn't think of that one. I stole it somewhere around here... Vin Tanner was 'Victor Trojkovic' in a USPW game, obviously repackaged in a Comrade gimmick. In a TCW game I fell in love with Frederique Garcia because he started getting immensely over for no real reason and without a push (actually without a win in his first six months or so) and repackaged him as 'The Supreme Being', the leader and mouthpiece for a group of former SWF colleagues with Acolyte gimmicks. I love the original and awesomely pompous Frederique Antonio Garcia name as well, though
Nedew Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Rick Law became 'The Law' after a heel turn. But I didn't think of that one. I stole it somewhere around here... Regardless of who coined it, that just has infinite possiblities for a catchphrase and such. Whenever he beat someone, the next week he could always burst in on them doing interviews or having conversations and such like, just screaming "YOU FOUGHT THE LAW AND UH, THE LAW WON!" I'm sure Joe Strummer would've loved it
James Casey Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I love Deadwood. I have to find a way to use that - finisher, team name or whatever...
Antithesis Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 In TCW I'll often rename Steve Flash into Fabian Flash to cut down on confusion between him, Steve Gumble, and Steven Parker
cappyboy Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Regardless of who coined it, that just has infinite possiblities for a catchphrase and such. Whenever he beat someone, the next week he could always burst in on them doing interviews or having conversations and such like, just screaming "YOU FOUGHT THE LAW AND UH, THE LAW WON!" I'm sure Joe Strummer would've loved it And I'll bet Bobby Fuller wouldn't exactly turn his nose up at it either.
Bigpapa42 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Davis Wayne Newton - always gets renamed to Ace Newton. Just like it better, plus it works if I do a stable around him Champagne Lover - gets changed to his real name or some variation of it Fredrique Antonio Garcia - while F.A.G. is funny and all, I usually use something like Flex Garcia
G-Prime Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I hired Queen Emily as TCW, and changed her name to Emily Noble, The Queen of Commentary, so as to avoid copyright issues with SWF.
Nedew Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 And I'll bet Bobby Fuller wouldn't exactly turn his nose up at it either. And then i'll drive my head into the wall for forgetting the blatantly obvious in that being it was a cover
wilts Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Seems that all these threads are only ever C-Verse, well, mwahahaha, I'm now going to ruin it for you all, whilst asking for a bit of help at the same time. Playing the 1992 mod as WWF, just signed Monty Sopp (Billy Gunn) and need a new name for him. I don't have many plans for him at the moment, but there is a chance he may get a push sooner or later, but for now I just want to try him out, but need a new name that I can stick with long term. Any ideas?

As for Billy Gunn, why not just...Billy Gunn? xD Unless the other Gunn is already around and that's how he was brought in IRL, shrug.
The Masked Orange Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I renamed Sam Keith Del Americano for my SOTBPW game. He and awesome Kiyaru lead the stable foreign legion. But Foreign Legion sucks, anyone got any ideas?
