MTV To Create A "New Wrestling Generation"?

26nd January, 1992

Reports are sketchy, but it appears that the MTV corporation are planning on introducing a new wrestling promotion in the next through days. Reportedly being called "New Wrestling Generation" (or NWG for short), the company look to fill the void in the wrestling industry by injecting their edgy, modern and in-your-face ideals into a sport that is quickly becoming old-fashioned.

When approached, MTV CEO Tom Freston had this to say:

"MTV has always pushed boundaries and were the forerunners of the video television industry, not only did we revitalize the music industry but now we are indeed looking into revitalizing the wrestling industry...and we hope to do this sooner rather than later."

The company could open as soon and this month, February 1992, and are reportedly already speaking to wrestlers that are currently not tied down to written contracts with the two big federations, World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Federation. When approached for comment both Vince McMahon and Ted Turner had no response. What does this mean for the top wrestling promotions? Can a federation run by MTV even succeed? What kind of wrestlers can MTV with their unlimited funds attract? More reports when we get them...

INTRODUCES

NEW WRESTLING GENERATION

The New Wrestling Federation, owned by MTV, has today announced that is opening it's doors with it's office building based in New York City. MTV CEO and New Wrestling Federation owner, Tom Freston, had this to see at the NWG press conference:

"The New Wrestling Generation looks to bring the traditional aspects of wrestling that are currently seen in the mainstream federations, and mix it with a more edgy cult angle, which in turn will make this federation the most modern in the business today! As you will see from our roster we have taken a mix of some of the BEST wrestlers that weren't tied down to written contracts, and we believe that we have an excellent mixture of both established wrestling veterans, and young talented wrestlers who will be the backbone of NGW becoming the biggest wrestling product EVER in the World."

With these names on the active roster it has also been announced that "Superstar" Billy Graham will play some type of on-air role, Scott Hudson and Raymond Rougeau will take up the seats at the announce table, and Nick Bockwinkel, Bruce Hart, and Paul Orndorff will do doing the duty of backstage agents for NGW. Bill Alfonso and Keith Hart will be acting as the officials.

It has also been announced that a young script writer from LA, Joseph Domini, will be taking the role of head booker for the promotion. At the press conference Domini had this to say:

"I have been a fan of wrestling since I was a child and think I have the knowledge and the creative ability to get New Wrestling Generation to the heights expected of it"

NEW WRESTLING GENERATION ANNOUNCE MTV PROGRAMMING!!

In a Press conference at their headquarters in New York City, New Wrestling Generation's owner and MTV CEO, Tom Freston, announced that two NEW shows will debut on the MTV network effective immediately. The first is to be called THE ASYLUM, a 2 hour show which will air LIVE primetime Monday nights, the second show is NWG RECALL which is the 1 1/2 hour B show airing on Saturday evenings. Both shows will appear on MTV.

With their first ASYLUM taking place tomorrow night Freston, and Head Writer Joseph Domini have announced their first preview card:
