Worked in a CPA firm for two years before I decided that I hated taxes, hated bookkeeping and hated auditing. After a two tear stint there, I made the move and opened my own company. I saw an opening in the market and started a weekly entertainment based newspaper. Flash forward 10 years... Now the company that I started was the owner of 12 different weekly entertainment newspapers. We had done well for ourselves. You know the kind of papers I'm talking about. They are found in bars and clubs. The goal is to make you laugh and find out where the cheapest drinks are each night. We sponsored and promoted events in the different bars that we dealt with. I had also convinced my shareholders (best friend and brother) to start a monthly magazine a few years ago that would focus on wrestling in the southeast. We had reached a point now in the company that we were flush with cash and could now branch out even further. I had been a wrestling fan my entire life. When you grew up in North Carolina, there was no WWE. There was no Hulk Hogan. There was only one, Jim Crockett Promotions. I was there the night that Ric Flair landed in the helicopter in Memorial Stadium. I watched the Road Warriors throw Jim Cornette off of the scaffold at Starrcade 86. I made fun of my brother when he hung a poster of the Rock N Roll Express on the wall. I was a fan of the horseman as they fought with Dusty, Wahoo, Magnum and Ronnie Garvin. I thought Precious and Baby Doll were the hottest women I had ever seen. I was a fan! I knew a lot of the workers and people in the business from the magazine. I approached the board with a little trepidation as I made my proposal for this. My instincts had been right in the past but I wasn't sure how they would feel about this. I knew that some of them had been fans in their childhood, but I wasn't sure how they would feel about moving into this new business Board Room for Carolina Publications “Gentleman, we have just heard from out CFO about the business and our cash position. The time has now come for us to expand into new areas. We have done well in the print industry. We have done well promoting events and selling advertising. We have done well selling a magazine about professional wrestling. My suggestion is to marry these three revenue streams into our next venture. Southern Championship Wrestling! Gentleman, it is my pleasure to introduce you to the man that can make this dream come true.” I buzzed the secretary and told her to let the gentleman in. “Gentlemen, this is Jim Cornette.” The board obviously had questions about this new business. Rather than posting all of the growing pains that the company has had, I will give you a wiki on the history of the company to this point. January 2006 In the month of January, SCW ran a weekly show at Spring Valley High School in Columbia SC. The main focus of these shows was the Southern Heavyweight Tournament. Eight men were invited to participate (Steve Corino, Shannon Moore, Davey Richards, Nigel McGuinness, La Parka, CW Anderson, Chris Hero and Colt Cobana). In the finals it was Steve Corino over La Parka for the title. This month also saw the rebirth of the Extreme Horseman with Steve Corino, CW Anderson, Ricky Landell and Karl Anderson. February 2006 Steve Corino and La Parka continued to fight over the Souther Heavyweight Championship with Corino continuing his reign. Peter Gruner (formally Billy Kidman) made his debut. March 2006 Steve Corino and La Parka are still going at it over Corino's Southern Heavyweight Title. The Briscoe Brothers picked up some steam going into the Southern Tag Team Title Tournament. James Gibson made his debut in the promotion. April 2006 Heartland Championship Wrestling closed their doors. SCW picked up Chad Collyer and Matt Stryker and packaged them into the tag team the Heartland Rejects. Peter Gruner and James Gibson started their feud with each other. The Briscoe Brothers won the Southern Tag Team Championships when they defeated The Pride of the Motherland (Doug Williams and Nigel McGuinness) in the finals. The other 2 teams in the tournament were The Anderson Wrecking Crew (CW Anderson and Karl Anderson) and the Heartland Rejects. Luther Weiss (formally Luther Reigns), Shannon Moore and Michael Batts (Mikey Batts) went on long winning streaks. Steve Corino injured La Parka ending their feud. May 2006 Shannon Moore started the first show of the month with an open challenge to Steve Corino. The two of them began to fight over the Southern Heavyweight Championship. The Anderson Wrecking Crew and The Briscoe's continued to fight over The Briscoe's Southern Tag Team Titles. June 2006 Shannon Moore and Steve Corino continue to fight over Corino's Southern Heavyweight Championship. The Briscoe Brothers and The Anderson Wrecking Crew continue to fight over the Southern Tag team Titles. Chris Hero left the company. He had too many engagements at other federations throughout the country. Elijah Burke signed with SCW. July 2006 SCW added a second weekly show at The Marrietta NGA. La Parka comes back to SCW only to be attacked by Luther Weiss the first night. Shannon and Steve kept fighting while The Briscoes and The Anderson Wrecking Crew also continued. Vince McMahon retired as the President of WWE. Stephanie took over control of the company. August 2006 Sabu made his debut in SCW as well as Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs. Jimmy Jacobs would go on to get hurt in his second match in the promotion. Shannon Moore finally was able to end the 7 month reign of Steve Corino as Southern Heavyweight Champion. The Briscoes and The Anderson Wrecking Crew continued their tag team war. The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels were released by the WWE. September 2006 Sabu went on a destructive tear attacking random workers left and right. Steve Corino lost in his rematch with Shannon Moore. James Gibson and Nigel McGuinness began to feud. Elijah Burke was named as the new number one contender to Shannon Moore's Title. The Anderson Wrecking Crew continued to battle with The Briscoe Brothers. The Anderson's were finally able to get the belt in a loser leaves town match with The Briscoe's. Ted Dibiase Jr left the company. SCW signed some young talent adding Adrian Hawkins, Chris Jen (Chrisjen Hayme), Truitt Fields and Phil Shatter. The Briscoe Brothers left the company for TNA, La Parka left the company for Memphis Wrestling. Lodi, Elix Skipper and Greg Matthews were not offered contract extensions. The WWE again made their roster small by releasing The Miz, Brett Major, Gene Snitsky, Santino Marella, Shad, Brian Major, Little Guido, Balls Mahoney, Viscera, Mike Knox, Charlie Haas, Daivari, Val Venis, Lance Cade, Tommy Dreamer, Deuce, Domino, Cherry, Michael Cole, Joey Styles, Jack Doan, Nick Patrick, Dusty Rhodes and Sgt. Slaughter. Mike Knox and Gene Snitsky were immediately added to SCW. Stan Hanson restarted World Class Championship Wrestling and Jerry Lawler restarted Memphis Wrestling. Gabe Sapolsky took over control of PWG. October 2006 Steve Corino and Sabu started a war that went all over the arena at each stop of the week. Nigel McGuinness was named as the new number 1 contender to Shannon Moore's Southern Title. Gene Snitsky, Grizzley Knox (Mike Knox) and Luther Weiss all fought over who was the biggest monster in the company. James Gibson and Colt Cobana began to feud. EC Negro and Kevin Sullivan joined the company. November 2006 Michael Batts began to feud with Peter Gruner. James and Colt continued to fight. Shannon and Nigel continued to fight. Sabu and Corino continued their feud. The Monsters continued their feud over who was the biggest. The Heartland Rejects (Chad Collyer and Matt Stryker) defeated The Anderson Wrecking Crew in a shocker for the Southern Tag Team Titles. December 2006 Elijah Burke was once again named as the number one contender and fought with Shannon over the Southern Title. Steve Corino and Sabu continued to fight. The Anderson Wrecking Crew lost their rematch against The Heartland Rejects when Karl submitted to Chad Collyer. The Monsters continued to fight. At the end of the year, Sabu was named #65, Shannon Moore was named #74 and Steve Corino was named #75 on the top 100 list for 2006. Karl Anderson was kicked out of the Extreme Horseman. Steve Corino and CW Anderson challenged the Heartland Rejects for the Tag Team Title and won. They were immediately attacked by the Pride of the Motherland (Nigel McGuiness and Doug Williams). The two teams continued to fight throughout the month. James Gibson and Colt Cobana continued their war. Peter Gruner and Michael Batts continued to fight. Gene Snitsky and Grizzley Knox continued to fight after Luther Weiss was injured. Josh Matthews was signed as an announcer for the show to join Jim Cornette on commentary. Sabu left for TNA. Tyler Black, Jimmy Jacobs and Karl Anderson were not offered contract extensions. This month, SCW held their first supercard, The One Year Anniversary Show, at the Township Auditorium in Columbia SC. 1)Shannon defeated Elijah to retain the Southern Heavyweight Title 2)CW Anderson and Steve Corino defeated Nigel McGuinness and Doug Williams to retain the Tag Team Titles. 3) Colt Cobana defeated James Gibson to end their feud. 4) Michael Batts and Peter Gruner fought to a time limit draw 5) Gene Snitsky and Grizzley Knox fought to a double countout. 6) Adrian Hawkins won a 20 man Battle Royal. February 2007 Shannon and Elijah continued. The Extreme Horseman and The Pride of the Motherland continued. Ricky Landell challenged Colt Cobana and they began to feud. Michael Batts ended the feud with Peter Gruner by defeating him in Marrietta. Gene Snitsky defeated Grizzley Knox in a very bloody match to end their feud. Antonio The Promise Thomas was signed to SCW. Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair hung up their boots. Both of them were with the WWE win they retired. March 2007 Nigel won a 25 man Battle Royal to determine a new number one contender to Shannon's title. Dean Ayass was announced as the new manager for The Pride of the Motherland. Norman Smiley joined The Pride teaming with Doug Williams to fight The Extreme Horseman team of Steve Corino and CW Anderson. The remaining Horseman (CW, Steve and Ricky) announced that they were going to add a fourth member. They invited Michael Batts, Chris Jen, James Gibson, Dropkick Murphy, Kenny Omega, The Promise Antonio Thomas, Chad Collyer and Matt Stryker to participate in a tournament to determine the new Horseman. Colt Cobana and Ricky Landell continued to fight. Luther Weiss made a return to the ring by attacking Gene Snitsky. Adrian Hawkins attacked Peter Gruner and they began a rather lackluster feud. Kenzo Suzuki was signed by the SCW. April 2007 Shannon Moore and Nigel McGuiness continued their feud as did The Extreme Horseman and The Pride of The Motherland. No titles changed. Ricky Landell ended the feud with Colt Cobana by making him submit to a German Suplex. Michael Batts won the Tournament to name a new Horseman. Luther Weiss won the feud against Gene Snitsky. Adrian Hawkins won the feud against Peter Gruner. Trent Acid and Johnny Kashmere joined the company as the Tag Team Resurrection. Eli Rodriguez, Lance Cade and The Master Christopher Bates (formally Chris Masters in the WWE) were added to the roster. The Biggest news of the month was when the USA network canceled RAW. Norman turns to hand the microphone to Dean when all four of the Horseman charge the ring and beat the hell out of Dean and Norman. Colt puts on the suit coat that Ted had left laying on the couch. "How about making me a main eventer. While Norman was checking on Ayass, CW snuck in behind him and put a spinebuster on him as well before covering him for the pin at the 13 minute mark. Tonight it will be: Kenzo Suzuki against Gene Snitsky Shannon Moore defends his Southern Heavyweight Championship against Elijah Burke and Adrian Hawkins goes against Krazy K! Make sure you are there for Southern Championship Wrestling live at the National Guard Armory in Marietta GA! Doors open at 6, Bell time is 7:30!
