DOTT - GCW: Beating the WWF

Recommended Posts

In the spring of 2003, the NWA realized what Vince McMahon was about. They were not about to let him get away with it. But the NWA still had access to the most valuable tv outlet in the country: Georgia Championship's Saturday night program on WTBS, the most widely seen wrestling program in the United States.

So the Miser was sent to gird up the roster, build the finances, and expand the promotion.

Before booking a single show, he started hiring. The miser brought in established stars Ricky Steamboat, Wahoo McDaniel, Junkyard Dog, Terry Funk, Dick Murdoch and Blackjack Mulligan; solid workers like Bob Orton and Bob Roop, and recommended prospects Steve Williams, Dutch Mantel, and Steve Keirn.

Tournaments were immediately scheduled for the vacant National Heavyweight and National Television Titles.
