TWOW: This Week on Wrestling

Background:

Hello everyone! I've been a fan of diaries and the TEW series for quite a while, though I've been lurking in the background. Some really great diaries out there, but I wanted to begin one and take a different approach to what I wanted to do.

While I really enjoy reading about how people are able to take a promotion from its infancy or take an existing promotion and continue the story, so much of the current diaries make it about 1 game year. As we all know there is a lot that goes into even making it through a year in the game, time commitments to write the angles, the endless hours of scouring for new talent, the story write ups and posts in the forum. It marvels me how far some people are actually able to get with their dynasty. It takes an extreme amount of commitment and time and dedication and these people should be saluted.

I however, would like to take a different approach to my diary. I for one would like to see what the AI can do with the game and what kind of storylines, they will create, how they develop their promotions in say 2012 or 2013. Who wrestles with which promotion, who are the big stars, who is the big promotion, etc. To do this, I will not take control of a promotion, the AI will control the entire game world. I will however, work to keep things interesting and report in my diary what is going on in the wrestling universe. I plan to write my site like an online rumor mill site (ie, lordsofpain.net, pwinsider.com). Results of major promotions will be provided, some write-ups and opinions on decisions made by various promotions, and some kayfabe on my part, with fake rumors (wrestlers leaving, retiring, heat from backstage participants). My diary will begin with the May KYR Database and focus on the USA. I would like to use Japan and mexico too, but think it could become overwhelming and most people wouldn't appreciate this extra touch. Also, more news will be provided on WWE, TNA, and ROH as these are the bigger promotions and typically the wrestling insider sites focus on these brands.

Also, the last way my diary will be different... You can create a worker in the game. Send me a PM, and include all required details of either the add worker tab or quick add and I will load you in the game. Then as news happens with your specific character, I will highlight it in the diary. Please be aware though that, once you are in the universe I have no creative control. I will not be able to place you in a promotion, I will not be able to push you in various ways, it is up to the AI as to where you end up and what your role is. Hopefully this will be an exciting part of the game and we can get a lot of people interested and maybe even see someone end up as a main eventer.

Anyway, I will be working this evening on the first few weeks and have an update later. Also, if you want to end up in the universe, send me all the details I need (you can find these in the in game editor), and I will add you in.

Diary:

Please use the links to following along because if you read the posts themselves, you won't understand what's going on...

Stable Disappearing?/ECW Being Pushed/Kendrick Push No Longer in the Works?

Mon Wk1 May 2009

http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/Superstars/29278/7292322--Over the past few weeks the internet rumor mill has been grinding out stories of a possible rift within Legacy. Rumors of young Ted Dibiase turning face in an effort to support the Marine 2 started a few weeks ago when Ted Sr. was talking to a school group and let the info slip. In fact, the ground work has been laid over the past 2 weeks as Dibiase has been seen in several backstage promos talking to Cody Rhodes about Orton stealing the spotlight. But what was expected to be a long running storyline with Orton and Rhodes turning their back on Dibiase has been pushed forward faster than anyone expected.

In fact, what was expected to be a big storyline, not to mention finally a fresh rivalry within the company, whose storylines have become a bit stale in recent months dues to a lack of developed talent, has been shelved for the time being. It was announced today on WWE.com that Dibiase has become fed up with the Orton and his constant in ring promos. He has grown tired of being seen as a second rate superstar and in doing so contacted ECW Smackdown GM Tiffany and asked for a transfer to be arranged.

http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:IV9Np60phalFeM:http://www.wwedaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/ecw-logo-arte.jpg-- It was stated in the WWE Corporate Conference call to shareholders, that while the ECW brand was disappointing in its numbers, the product was finally where he was happy with it. He stated that ECW has been viewed in the past as being its own brand and not truly connected with the WWE, but Vince now believes that the changes they have made with the move to Sci-Fi, and the push of young superstars has finally given the show the brand identity they were hoping for. In a surprising move today though, the WWE has chosen to make a push to increase ratings on their “B Show” by move several superstars to help “balance” the brands. WWE.com reported today that Ted Dibiase will be moving to ECW, in addition to WWE Divas Champion Maryse, The Glamazon Beth Phoenix, and referees Mike Chioda and Scott Armstrong.

The WWE is hoping that the presence of a women’s division, a new main event wrestler for the brand, and increased referee strength will enhance the brand’s image and boost show ratings.

http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/Superstars/29278/7775172-- It appears the fresh start The Brian Kendrick was supposed to receive on the Raw show has now changed directions. It was announced today the The Brian Kendrick will be returning to Smackdown effective immediately. His profile has since been moved on WWE.com to the Smackdown brand as well. It should be noted that at this time, former Smackdown partner Ezekiel Jackson is still on the ECW brand after being taken in the supplemental draft a few weeks ago.

ECW to Get Divas Division

ECW to Get Divas Divsion

Mon Wk1 May 2009

source: PWInsider.com

http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/Superstars/29278/4014118-- There was some discussion after the draft a few weeks ago questioning why Natalya and Katie Lee Burchill were on the ECW roster just to manage. Many felt that they would be better served back in FCW if they were not going to be receiving ring experience. The reasoning for the move was finally discovered today as the WWE announced they would be creating a new ECW Divas division and put an empathic exclamation point on that statement today by moving both the Glamazon Beth Phoenix and WWE Divas Champion Maryse to the “land of extreme.” The move is a surprise for Maryse who was moved to the Raw brand from Smackdown a few weeks ago. However, the move appears to have been made to get Maryse to Monday nights where ECW will now be taping. Speculation is swirling that she was moved to Raw and not ECW because WWE was not ready to start the ECW Divas division at the time of the draft and needed to delay the move by several weeks. By moving both wrestlers though it does leave a large void at the top of the Raw Diva’s division. With Mickie James being the only established star and Kelly Kelly having to step up in the role expected of her very quickly.

What is to become of Legacy?

Mon Wk1 May 2009

Earlier today it was reported here on TWIW that Ted Dibiase has been “traded” to the ECW brand after becoming increasingly frustrated with Randy Orton.

Really? Are you serious WWE? Legacy, your currently longest running stable, and the focal piece of the Raw brand dating back to Orton’s Royal Rumble win just dissolves like that? No steel chair to someone’s head? No punt from Orton to Dibiase’s skull? No backstab that causes Orton to lose the title or pre-emptive strike from Orton to prevent the stab in the back? We’re just going to go with a WWE press release? Obviously folks, there’s something more to this than what we realize. Did young Ted pressure the WWE front office based on who his father is and what potential he has shown? Did Vince finally fall off the crazy wagon? Has a WWE Main Eventer defected to another brand prompting the push? Something has happened here and while I can’t put my finger on it, it smells as bad as Mick Foley ladies and gentlemen.

But what’s done is done and where do we go from here? Obviously if Ted had to leave Legacy, ECW was the right place to go. He is nowhere near read to go up against the likes of Randy Orton, Triple H, or Shawn Michaels. ECW will give him the main event push he needs and give him the opportunity to work as a main eventer with only a mid card push. I would expect a feud between the likes of Jack Swagger if indeed the WWE is serious about the concept of pushing young Dibiase as a face or possibly a feud with recently promoted DH Smith in a battle of the 2nd generation wrestlers.

One the Legacy side of things, where do we go from here? Do Rhodes and Orton continue on, do they add a new member, or do we see someone from the old Legacy return? Let’s explore the options:

http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/Superstars/29278/9345770Obviously Sim Snuka is still out there. Sim, as you may remember was double crossed by Ted Dibiase when Ted, rejoined the Legacy several months ago. It wouldn’t be unthinkable to see WWE writers find a way to re-introduce Superfly’s boy into the fold. In fact, a feud between Sim where he finally extract’s his revenge on Ted for the double cross and then is again welcomed to Legacy seems right in line with typical WWE writing. Still though, this would take a tremendous leap on WWE Fans part and I’m not sold on Snuka and Dibiase being able to carry a whole storyline like that at this point in their young careers.

Odds 10%

http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/Superstars/29278/5739070DH Smith has just recently been brought up from FCW. While he is still green, the ability of Orton to carry the group can greatly make up for what DH Smith is missing in terms of overness. He also pitched the idea in early January to add him as a 4th member, only to see that idea dissolve as WWE proceeded instead with the McMahon Clan vs. Legacy storyline. Here’s a second thought though, who big of a coup would it be to see not only DH Smith join, but also Tyson Kidd and Natalya. The new Hart Foundation joins with Legacy to display wrestling’s strongest showing of second generation wrestlers to date. Now I know Kidd is not a true second generation wrestler, but he is an adopted Hart family member from an early age. However, with the new ECW Diva’s division getting a major injection of talent today, Natalya moving seems less likely.

Odds of DH Smith joining 20% Odds of a Hart Foundation Legacy joint venture 1%.

http://www.wwe.com/content/media/images/Superstars/29278/8150376Legacy continues with 2 members seems a possibility, but now we’re looking at a tag team. I think they’ll move down this road to some extent, but ultimately we’ll just end up with the concept of the faction dissolving. The Legacy wave crested when Orton captured the WWE Championship at Backlash and appears to have now broken and will likely be unable to gain the same type of steam. Look for Legacy to continue with Orton and Rhodes and the storyline to eventually just phase itself out like it never happened.

Odds 70%
