HIW: A Real World Uprising

Recommended Posts

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/index_01.jpg

The wrestling Community welcomed a new member to the family today as Former ECW and NWA World Champion Steve Corino announced the formation of HIW: High Impact Wrestling. Based in the Mid South region of the United States, the company was first hinted at back in January of this year, when Corino was on a local radio sports show. Today he returned to the station and announced his plans:

“I just want to try something new. HIW is a mixture of old school and new. I want a little something for everyone. No limits, no restrictions, just the best of the best from around the world, some familiar faces, some new blood, a little of everything. We’re just looking to put on a great show that the fans can appreciate and enjoy without having their intelligence insulted. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll give Vince and his boys a run for his money. You just never know in this business”

When asked about the talent arriving in HIW, Corino was very hesitant, but did drop a few names.

“Well, from the promotional poster I gave you guys it’s pretty obvious we have signed Bryan Danielson up to compete for us. But I don’t really want to reveal too much too soon. But I guess that I can also tell you that Chris Kanyon has agreed to work with us on a Part-Time Basis. That’s what I mean by the whole Old School/New School dynamic we are going for. We want something for everyone, and hopefully we can deliver on that”

Corino was also asked about whether he would be lacing up his boots to compete.

“I’m the owner. That wouldn’t be very professional now, would it (laughs). In all seriousness though, I really want to try to stay away from that side of things. I think I would be more likely to be behind the announcers’ desk than in the ring. But who knows, if the right opponent came along or if the fans demanded it, there could be a chance I might step through the ropes again”

More news coming soon.

-HIW Owner Steve Corino today announced the very first card for High Impact Wrestling, which will be entitled 'HIW UPRISING' and has revealed some of the names that will be appearing for the promotion. Here is the card for their very first show

Fatal 4-Way for The HIW Championship

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/BryanDanielson3.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ColtCabana.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ElijahBurke.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/JustinCredible.jpg

Bryan Danielson vs Colt Cabana vs Elijah Burke vs Justin Credible

The First ever HIW Champion will be determened at HIW Uprising in a Fatal 4-Way contest. Bryan Danielson and Colt Cabana are no strangers to each other having faced each other on a number of occasions in Ring of Honor. Add former WWE 'Superstar' Elijah Burke and a former ECW World Champion in Justin Credible, and you have a very interesting mix of styles, and will be sure to be and exciting affair. But who will walk away with the gold, and the honor of becoming the first HIW Champion?

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/KidKash.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/PeteyWilliams.jpg

Kid Kash vs Petey Williams

Two fantastic high flying athletes will go at it as Kid Kash faces Petey Williams. The former ECW Television and WWE Cruiserweight Champion may have the experience advantage over Williams, but you can't count the former X-Division Champion out of this one. This one should be an entertaining contest.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ChrisHero3.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ChrisKanyon.jpg

Chris Hero vs Chris Kanyon

A true Old School vs New School match-up, as Chris Kanyon faces the arrogant Chris Hero. Rumor has it that Hero is not at all happy about facing off with who he apparently called a 'washed up never-was' and is looking to put Kanyon out of commision. But he may have his hands full. He may be a little older, but 'The Innovator of Offence' still has what it takes to win.

Triple Threat Tag for The HIW Tag Team Titles

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/Cheech.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/Cloudy.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/SJK.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/JimmyRave.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/BrentAlbright.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/DougWilliams.jpg

Cheech & Cloudy vs Nu School Soldiers (Sterling James Keenan & Jimmy Rave) vs Brent Albright & Doug Williams

A great way to crown the first ever HIW Tag Team Champions, with a Triple Threat Tag Match. Cheech and Cloudy would seem to have the advantage in this contest, having been a regular partnership on the Independent scene, but two new teams seem hungry for gold. Take, for example 'The Nu Skool Soldiers', Sterling James Keenan and Jimmy Rave. A ****y young duo who can't be counted out as contenders. Add to the mix two great technical athletes in Brent Albright and Doug Williams, and you have a very interesting match-up. One team will leave with the gold. But who will it be?

Plus: Appearences from Eddie Kingston, Daffney and "The King of Old School" Himself, Steve Corino. Plus much more.

-It has also come to our attention that HIW and SHIMMER have come together on a woking agreement, so we will be sure to see some of the best female athletes in America appearing in a HIW ring in the near future

Quick Picks

HIW Championship:

Bryan Danielson vs Colt Cabana vs Elijah Burke vs Justin Credible

Kid Kash vs Petey Williams

Chris Hero vs Chris Kanyon

HIW Tag Team Title:

Cheech and Cloudy vs Nu Skool Soldiers vs Brent Albright and Doug Williams

HIW Championship:

Bryan Danielson vs Colt Cabana vs Elijah Burke vs Justin Credible

-Can't think of a better guy to break in a championship. Colt would be good too, but he just ain't AmDrag.

Kid Kash vs Petey Williams

-Something tells me you're going the other way with this, but I just don't like Petey very much.

Chris Hero vs Chris Kanyon

-The easiest choice of the night, IMO. I could easily see Hero as your top heel, and Kanyon's role should be to put the younger guys over.

HIW Tag Team Title:

Cheech and Cloudy vs Nu Skool Soldiers vs Brent Albright and Doug Williams

-I debated between them and the NKS, but Albright and Williams just sounds like a really interesting team to me.

HIW Presents: Uprising

Live from Great Plains Coliseum (Mid South)

Sunday, Week 3, June 2009

(Available on DVD from http://www.hiw-wrestling.com)

The show opens with the sounds of ‘Fire’ by Scooter playing through the coliseum as HIW Owner Steve Corino makes his way to the ring, slapping hands with the fans. He grabs a mike from ringside as a ‘King of Old School’ chant begins, and slowly fills the arena. After a short while Corino lifts a hand to silence the crowd.

Corino: You have no idea how much that means. Thank you. Now I know you all came here to see a wrestling show so I’m not gonna stand out here for too long. I just wanted to take this time to thank you all for coming to see HIW Uprising tonight. You are all a part of history tonight. Because you can now say that you were at the first ever HIW show, to see the first HIW Tag Team and HIW Champions crowned. You were there, you were a part of it, and tonight, we plan to give you all something to remember, and we hope you will all return in the future. I would also like to thank the wrestlers who have decided to call HIW their home. Men like Colt Cabana, Bryan Danielson, Chris Kanyon, Jimmy Rave....the list goes on. I just want to thank them for making a commitment to HIW and for trying to make this venture work. Thanks guys. Now I’m gonna go and sit with my broadcast partner Dave Prazak down there and...

Before he could finish his sentence, a voice came over the PA.

Voice: CORINO! WHAT ABOUT US CORINO? HEY, UP HERE!

Corino turned and looked towards the entrance ramp to see 3 figures standing there.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/EddieKingston2.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/DanMaff.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/B-Boy-1.jpg

Kingston: Yeah, up here Corino. So what’s the deal here Steve? You shoot us an e-mail, you ask us to be a part of your promotion and then you leave us off the first show? What, we’re not good enough to be on your first show? Is that it, Steve?

Corino: Eddie, listen...

Kingston: No, YOU listen. Do you realise what you have done? You have spat in the face of 3 of the best in the business, 3 of the toughest in the business... and 3 of the most VIOLENT in the business, Eddie Kingston, Dan Maff and B-Boy. Do you have any idea what we could do? Do you, Steve?

Corino: Are you threatening me, Eddie?

Kingston:....I don’t make threats Corino. All I’m gonna say is, enjoy this moment. Enjoy the show. Enjoy the praise. Because The Urban Tribe is gonna kill this company before it gets started. We are gonna bury this company, Corino. We are gonna make your existence as miserable as humanly possible. Enjoy this moment Steve. Enjoy...this...moment.

The Urban Tribe retreat to the back as a confused and somewhat worried Steve Corino sits behind the announce table with Dave Prazak.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/PeteyWilliams.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/KidKash.jpg

Petey Williams vs. Kid Kash

A great match to open the show with. These two were pretty evenly matched throughout the match. The end came as Kash lifted Petey up for the Money Maker, however, Petey hit a hurricanrana. As Kash lifted himself to his feet, he was quickly hit with the Canadian Destroyer, which was enough to put Kash away for the 3 count.

Winner: PETEY WILLIAMS (C+).

For The HIW Tag Team Championships:

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/Cheech.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/Cloudy.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/SJK.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/JimmyRave.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/BrentAlbright.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/DougWilliams.jpg

Cheech and Cloudy vs. Nu Skool Soldiers vs. Brent Albright and Doug Williams

Another good match here to crown the first ever HIW Tag Champs. Cheech and Cloudy showed there experience as a tag team in the early going, displaying some excellent double team moves. Brent Albright was quick to end their offence though, and showed some impressive team work himself with Doug Williams. The young, ****y team of Sterling James Keenan and Jimmy Rave spent most of the match on the outside, letting the other teams wear each other down, before SJK entered the ring and delivered a devastating kick to the head of Cloudy, which took him out of the match completely. That left Cheech alone against two hungry young teams. The finish saw Jimmy Rave on the outside with Brent Albright and Doug Williams Laid out in the ring after a Dragon Suplex by SJK. This allowed Keenan to nail the MK Ultra on Cheech. Unfortunately, SJK spent too much time showboating, which allowed Williams to come up from behind and hit the Chaos Theory and get the victory. Williams and Albright are the first ever HIW Tag Team Champions.

Winners and NEW HIW Tag Team Champions: BRENT ALBRIGHT AND DOUG WILLIAMS(D+)

Following the match, both Williams and Albright and The Nu Skool Soldiers left the ring, leaving Cheech as the remaining athlete in the ring. As he rose to his feet, he was suddenly attacked...by The Urban Tribe! Kingston, Maff and B-Boy brutally attacked Cheech. After a short beat down, Maff and B-Boy held the lifeless body of Cheech, allowing Kingston to hit the Backfist to the Future. It wasn’t long after that officials and staff rushed to the ring to stop the carnage. Kingston climbed the second turnbuckle and could be heard yelling towards Steve Corino ‘THIS IS JUST THE START. ENJOY THIS MOMENT’

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/KazHayashi.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ElixSkipper.jpg

Kaz Hayashi vs. Elix Skipper

The first of two bonus matches saw two former WCW athletes going head to head. A fairly short bout, but both men proved that they can still put on a great display inside the ropes. Kaz Hayashi picked up the victory here, hitting a variation of a piledriver which he calls the Power Plant. A good display by both men here.

Winner: KAZ HAYASHI (D+)

For the benefit of those watching on DVD, Dave Pazak and Steve Corino hype up the main event match between Bryan Danielson, Colt Cabana, Elijah Burke and Justin Credible for the HIW Championship.

Prior to the next bout, Chris Hero took a ringside mike and decided to address the audience.

Hero: So, this is what I gave up my Sunday night for, is it? Do you know who I am? If you don’t then you’re clearly bigger morons than you look. I’m Chris Hero. I’m the greatest athlete this great sport has ever seen. I am the future of this business. And I should be in that HIW Title match later on tonight. Instead, Corino and the powers-that-be in this company have decided to put me in a match with a washed up never-was like Chris Kanyon? Chris freakin’ Kanyon? Is this seriously the best that you’ve got, Corino? I’m a star....no, I’m a SUPERstar. There’s nobody better. But if you want me to prove myself, then let’s get this over with. Kanyon, get out here now, so I can send you back in the closet where you belong

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ChrisHero3.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ChrisKanyon.jpg

Chris Hero vs. Chris Kanyon

If Hero wanted to get a reaction out of Kanyon with his promo, he certainly did that, as Kanyon came out with all guns blazing, throwing punch after punch at Hero, finally knocking him to the outside, where he followed to continue the beating. However, a drop toe hold into the steel steps by Hero stopped Kanyon dead in his tracks. From then on, it was all Hero, rolling him back in the ring to continue the beat down. Hero threw everything he had at Kanyon, hitting him with gut busters, double knee backbreakers and even hitting the Rubik’s Cube, but ‘The Innovator of Offence’ somehow managed to kick out and continue the match. Hero was clearly extremely frustrated after being unable to end the match with one of his most devastating finishers. Hero decided enough was enough and called for the Hero’s Welcome. However, out of nowhere, Kanyon rolled Hero up with a quick schoolboy and got the 3 count and the shock win.

Winner: CHRIS KANYON (D+)

After the match, Hero sat in the ring in complete shock, which turned to anger...which turned to blind rage as he attacked the official before heading to the outside, throwing tables and chairs around the ringside area. For the second time in the show, officials and backstage staff had to return to ringside to restrain an irate Chris Hero, and to stop any further damage being done.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/Daffney.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/LisaFury.jpg

Daffney vs Lisa Fury

The second bonus match of the night, this time with two female performers trying to show what they had. Again, a pretty short match, but it definitely showed that the woman’s division in HIW should be a good one. Daffney took the victory here, hitting Fury with a Frankenscreamer.

Winner: DAFFNEY (E+)

For those watching the DVD , we are treated to a short promo by The four participants in tonight’s Four way Title Match, beginning with Justin Credible

Credible: So this is it. The time has almost arrived. You know, a lot of people have doubted me throughout the years. They’ve questioned my ability. They’ve questioned my heart. We’ll I’ve proved time and time again that I can beat anybody, anytime, anywhere. And now I’ve got to prove to these morons in the Great Plains Coliseum that I can out last and out wrestle 3 of the top men in the company. I was the ECW World Heavyweight Champion. I’ve worked for the biggest companies in the world. And tonight I’m gonna show these inbreeds that Justin Credible is STILL the man. I’m gonna prove that Justin Credible is STILL a winner. And I’m gonna prove that Justin Credible will be your first, last and only HIW Champion. ‘Cause I’m Not just the coolest. Not just the best. I’m Justin Credible.

We then cut to Colt Cabana who, as usual, has a huge grin on his face.

[Cabana: Good evening, I’m Colt Cabana and we are L.I.V.E, LIVE from the Great Plains Coliseum for the first EVER HIW show, Uprising. And in just a few moments 4 competitors will enter the ring and get the chance to become the HIW Champion for the very first time. Bryan Danielson, Elijah Burke, Justin Credible, and yours truly. The Coltster, Colt Cabana. You know, it’s been a long time since I’ve been given the chance to become a champion. I’ve spent a few years in the wilderness, getting lost in the shuffle, but hey, that’s life. But I’m back on track and ready to make an impact. As a good friend once told me, ‘Never eat blueberries’. Good advice, too. But that’s another story for another time. Anyway, tonight, I go out to that ring and I put on the performance of a lifetime. It’s my destiny to become a world champion. And tonight, I do just that. This is my night. My moment. And I promise all my fans in HIW, I won’t let you down. This has been Colt Cabana for High Impact Wrestling. Thanks for watching.

We now cut to Bryan Danielson, who keeps it short but sweet.

Danielson: My name is Bryan Danielson. Former GHC, PWG, FIP and ROH World Champion. Tonight, you can add HIW Champion to that list. Unlike some, I do my talking inside those ropes. And I’ll do it again tonight. Boys, you’re in for a world of pain. Courtesy of the American Dragon.

We finally cut to a shot of Elijah Burke

Burke: Tonight...tonight is the night that I finally get what I deserve. I’ve been telling people ever since I got into this business that I’m the future. That I’m a winner. And when I step through those ropes tonight, and I look into the eyes of 3 hungry lions, I’m not gonna back down. Im not gonna run scared. Because I’m hungry, too. I need that belt. I don’t want it, I NEED it. To prove to the world that I truly am the best. The Elijah Express is pulling into the station, folks. And I ain’t leaving without the gold. And you can take that one to the bank.

For The HIW Championship:

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/BryanDanielson3.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ColtCabana.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ElijahBurke.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/JustinCredible.jpg

Bryan Danielson vs. Colt Cabana vs. Elijah Burke vs. Justin Credible.

The Main event was expected to be a fantastic display between 4 top athletes, and boy did it deliver. Danielson was clearly the fan favourite going into this one, with a few Cabana fans scattered throughout the crowd too. All 4 competitors were in the ring at the same time, so it was plainly obvious that things were gonna get messy. Cabana and Burke spent a lot of time on the outside in this one, even going so far as to take the fight into the crowd at one point. The official was obviously under the instruction NOT to deliver a count-out in this first ever HIW championship match, as he allowed the fight to continue, meanwhile, Danielson was methodically picking apart Justin Credible with a series of suplexes, powerbombs and submission manoeuvres, wearing the former ECW Champion down. Credible showed his vast experience though, hitting a neck breaker after reversing another Danielson German Suplex attempt. It was now Credible’s turn to wear down his opponent, working on the lower back of Danielson with a Boston Crab and various other submission moves.

Back in the crowd, and Cabana and Burke were still going at it, levelling each other with anything they could get their hands on, a very different story to the one that was happening in the ring. This wasn’t billed as an anything goes match, but the official allowed it to continue regardless. As Cabana turned to grab a chair, he was struck in the back with another chair buy Burke. He continued to lay waste to Cabana with the chair, until finally he left him on the ground. Cabana clearly wasn’t moving. Elijah then slowly made his way to the ring.

The finish came after Danielson hit a devastating Belly-to-Belly Suplex over the top rope on Credible. As he was about to follow Credible to the outside, he spotted Burke trying to enter the ring with the steel chair still in his hand. The official also spotted this and attempted to retrieve the chair from him, clearly wanting to keep the carnage on this outside of the ring rather than inside of it. Burke was having none of it and pushed the official to the ground. He charged at Danielson with the chair. But Danielson ducked and delivered a Bone-Crunching German Suplex. He followed this by locking in the Cattle Mutilation. However, the referee was still trying to clear the cobwebs. This gave Justin Credible a chance to hit Danielson with a Singapore cane to the gut, followed by a shot between the eyes. He then lifted Bryan up and hit the That’s Incredible. Colt Cabana almost made it to the ring in time to break the count, but he was a split second too slow, as The Official was able to make the three count and crown Justin Credible the first ever HIW Champion

Winner and NEW HIW Champion: JUSTIN CREDIBLE (C+)

SHOW RATING: C-

Thanks for the few readers who have left comments. A small following is better than no following at all. I am hoping to keep this going for a while, however it might not be updated as frequently as some other diaries on this board. But I hope you will all keep reading and hopefully enjoy what I have planned. Plus I have had what I think is a pretty unique idea conserning predictions which I hope to start pretty soon. Anyway, thanks again, and enjoy.

The Truth by James Harding

Welcome to my new column 'The Truth' in which I will be giving my honest opinions on recent events within the world of wrestling. In this article I will be focusing on 'UPRISING', the first event held by High Impact Wrestling. Here are just some of my thoughts on this event.

~I'm quite intrigued to see where this 'Urban Tribe' angle is leading. It seems a very strange mix with Eddie Kingston, Dan Maff and B-Boy, but somehow it worked. It was definitely a good idea to have Kingston as the 'Leader' of this faction, as he delivers some of the best promos in the industry today. His verbal sparring with Corino seemed pretty convincing, making me believe Kingston and Co. really were pissed off at not being put on the show. However, I think the beat down of Cheech could have been done at a later date. It was effective, but it wasn't necessary.

~Good match to open with between Kid Kash and Petey Williams. There have been many things said about Kash in the past, but despite what anybody says, he can still pull out an excellent match, as shown here. He and Petey had possibly the best match of the night. I think in time Petey could be a very valuable person to have on the roster. I can't really see him being HIW Champion any time soon, but he is a very solid midcarder.

~ I was happy to see Brent Albright and Doug Williams walk away with the Tag Titles in the Triple Threat. They showed excellent team work and with time could become a very well polished team. What impressed me even more was the team of Sterling James Keenan and Jimmy Rave. These two are future stars, without a doubt. There ****y, arrogant attitudes really seemed to get under the skin of the audience.I can definitely see both of these men becoming singles stars in the future. But for now they make a superb tag team who I am confident will be wearing the gold sooner rather than later. As for Cheech and Cloudy...well, can you spell 'Jobbers'? I could be wrong, but I can't see much in their future other than being fed to the up-and coming teams.

~Kanyon defeated Hero? THAT was a shocker for me. Don't get me wrong, I've always been a fan of Kanyon's work, but lets face it, he's coming to the end of his career. He's a part-time competitor. Chris Hero is a future Main Eventer for HIW. It was a good bout between the two, but I think Hero should have been the man to get the win here. They are obviously planning to go somewhere with this, as shown by the post match breakdown of Hero. But I still believe Hero deserved better here.

~Why put a woman's match on before a Main Event? Who knows. Nothing bad here, but could have been put somewhere else on the card. Perhaps they could have swapped it with the Kaz Hayashi/Elix Skipper match, which was a surprisingly decent bout. Rumor has it Hayashi and Skipper will be forming a regular tag team together. Will be interesting to see how well they will mesh. The Tag team division looks promising for HIW.

~I'll admit it, I'm a Danielson mark, so any other result is a thumbs down from me. But it was a very good Main Event. Top marks to Colt Cabana for the way he sold those devastating chair shots by Elijah Burke. Credible did his job effectively too. It will be interesting to see how long they decide to keep the belt on him however, as he isn't getting any younger. I think in time Burke could be a great 'cowardly heel' champion, but he's not quite there yet. So I think the best bet is to put the belt on Danielson. Soon. Did I mention I'm a Danielson mark?

So, there you have it. A solid performance by all involved, and a good start for Corino and his boys. Lets hope they can keep it up. Only time will tell.

Guest KingOfKings

Good first show, I was sorta hoping for Elijah Burke to pull out the W. (Always had a soft spot for him) But other than that I like where this is going.

P.S. Just an idea, but since you're doing a real world diary maybe your column could also include updates from around the wrestling world also?, just a tiny suggestion

Glad you enjoyed the show. I too have a soft spot for Burke, but I just don't think he is ready for the belt just yet. Im sure he'll capture the belt at some point.

As for updates from around the world, I want to mainly focus on what is happening with HIW, but I will add anything that I deem news-worthy, e.g title changes, deaths, major retirements, Drug Failures etc.

Justin Credible vs Petey Williams

After a terrific showing against Kid Kash at last months 'Uprising' Event, Petey Williams has earned himself a shot at Justin Credibles newly won HIW Championship. Many believe that Credible is not deserving of the title after blatantly cheating his way to a victory last month. This is Justin's chance to prove the fans wrong once again. But, as shown at 'Uprising', Williams is no push over. Will 'The Canadian Destroyer' end Justin's title reign before it begins, or will the champ prove that he truly is 'Justin Credible'?

Bryan Danielson vs Colt Cabana vs Elijah Burke

Three athletes desperate to become champion. All three men proved how much they wanted to taste gold last month. Danielson will be desperate to get a victory, as he will want to get his hands on Justin Credible (whether he retains the title or not) after being struck with his Singapore Cane twice, effectively ending the match at 'Uprising'. However, Elijah Burke proved what lengths he is willing to go to in order to win the gold, destroying Colt Cabana with a steel chair. And speaking of Cabana, how will the usually laid back 'comedian' react when he steps into the ring with Elijah Burke again. Whoever wins will get a shot at 'HIW Summer Bash' in August' The question is, who will it be, and what are they willing to do in order to get there?

Brent Albright and Doug Williams vs Kaz Hayashi and Elix Skipper

Last month saw Kaz Hayashi and Elix Skipper have an outstanding match against each other. The respect these two gained for each other has lead them to become a tag team. And they have been lucky enough to be chosen as the first challengers for The New HIW Tag Team Champions. However, they have a tough task ahead as they face off against Brent Albright and Doug Williams, two men who showed they have tremendous chemistry as a tag team, successfully winning the titles from two different teams. The crowd are sure to be behind both teams in this one, but who will walk out with the gold at 'Apocalypse'?

First Round of the HIW International Title Tournament

Match 1

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ChrisHero3.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ArikCannon.jpg

Chris Hero vs Arik Cannon

The first of four First Round International Title Tournament matches (2 of which will happen at Summer Bash in August) sees two former 'Kings of Wrestling' step in the ring to face one another. Chris Hero still seems to be extremely upset over his shock loss to Chris Kanyon last month, and will be looking to put that loss behind him. But if he thinks he's in for an easy night, he should really know better, as he knows more than anyone that Arik Cannon is not somebody you should take lightly. A great brawler as well as being able to wrestle his opponents to the mat, Arik is a real contender to go far in this tournament. But only one man can make it to the semi-finals in September

Match 2

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/NickDinsmore.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/KidKash.jpg

Nick Dinsmore vs Kid Kash

Nick Dinsmore has arrived in HIW! And if anybody is expecting to see 'Eugene' make an appearance, there going to be disappointed, as it seems Dinsmore is all business and looking to make a huge impact in HIW, starting with capturing the HIW International Title. His technical skills are certainly something to be admired, a side that very few wrestling fans have seen. But Kid Kash is certainly looking to make an impact himself after his loss to Petey Williams. However, it was clear that he is certainly in good shape and ready to take on the world. Who will be the second man to compete in the semi-finals?

Plus much much more more

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/BJWhitmer.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ChadCollyer.jpg

BJ Whitmer vs. Chad Collyer

The show opened with a good back and forth matchup between two sound technical athletes. Chad put on a good display against Whitmer, delivering a series of suplexes and submissions on Whitmer. At one point he was even able to lock on the Cloverleaf, almost causing BJ to tap out. But Whitmer was able to break the hold. BJ took the victory after delivering an ‘Adrenaline Spike’ Piledriver to Collyer, ending a great opening bout for ‘Apocalypse’.

Winner: BJ WHITMER (D+)

Round 1 of the HIW International Title Tournament

Match 1

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ArikCannon.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ChrisHero3.jpg

Arik Cannon vs. Chris Hero

If this first match in the tournament is any indication of what we are in store for in the International title scene, we certainly won’t be disappointed. Arik Cannon and Chris Hero put on a spectacular match, with both men showing just how much they want to make it to the final. Surprisingly, it was Arik Cannon who started the match the strongest, nailing some vicious blows to the head of Hero, followed by a variety of submission holds, hoping to keep Hero grounded. After around 10 minutes of this, Hero was able to get his head in the game, and came back with some crunching blows of his own. Hero managed to nail a Hero’s Welcome on Cannon, which should have ended the match. But Cannon was a lot tougher than many gave him credit for, and managed to get his shoulder off the mat before the three count. Sensing that this match was going the same way as his match with Kanyon the previous month, Hero decided not to waste time and delivered a second Hero’s Welcome. He made the cover... but Cannon managed to get a foot on the rope. The anger was evident on the face of Hero, who dragged Cannon to his feet, looking to hit the move for a third time. But Cannon managed to get free of Hero’s grip and execute an Inverted Death Valley Driver. Arik made the cover, but Hero kicked out at the last second. Arik waited for Hero to rise before hitting the ropes and attempting to hit a lariat. But Hero was able to duck and lift Cannon onto his shoulders. From here he was able to execute the Rubik’s Cube and finally get the pinfall to advance to the semi finals.

Winner: Chris Hero ©

Brent Albright and Doug Williams vs. Kaz Hayashi and Elix Skipper

The tag titles were on the line next as Williams and Albright defended against the new team of Kaz Hayashi and Elix Skipper. After their entertaining match at ‘Uprising’, it would be interesting to see how the two men would work as a team. And they proved to be very worthy opponents, outpacing the champions and using their speed to their advantage. But the new champions would not be denied, eventually wearing the challengers down with their technical expertise. Doug Williams ended the match after delivering a thunderous Chaos Theory to Kaz Hayashi.

Winners and STILL HIW Tag Team Champions: Brent Albright and Doug Williams (D)

Following the match, the champions remain in the ring to celebrate for the fans. But out from the crowd come Sterling James Keenan and Jimmy Rave, The Nu Skool Soldiers. They enter the ring and attack from behind, laying the boots to the champs. But the beatdown didn’t last long, as Williams and Albright mounted a comeback, nailing SJK and Rave with duelling German Suplex’s. The Nu Skool Soldiers decide to cut their loses and exit the ring before anymore damage is done to their bodies. Or their egos.

As Steve Corino and Dave Prazak are discussing what just took place after the tag team championship match, they are interrupted by the participants in the next match, The Urban Tribe. The crowd are certainly not behind the tribe, making their feelings heard. Dan Maff and B-Boy enter the ring. Eddie Kingston however walks straight towards the announce desk. He starts to applaud Steve Corino before getting a microphone and addressing Corino and the crowd.

Kingston: Well done, Corino. Well done for finally opening your eyes and realizing that the Urban Tribe deserve a match to prove their worth.....Is this what you wanted Steve? You want us to thank you? You think by putting us in a match tonight that it makes up for the disrespect you showed towards us at Uprising? You just don’t get it, do you Steve. Uprising was HIW’s very first show. A chance to show the world what this company is all about. And yet you didn’t feel that we were good enough to be on that show. You put a washed up old man like Chris Kanyon and a complete joke like Colt Cabana on the show, yet you leave out the three of us? If that’s not bad enough, tonight you put is in the ring with three curtain jerker’s who aren’t fit to lace our boots? Well you know something Steve? We are gonna show you just what we can do. If you think this is gonna stop us from destroying this company from the inside out, then you’re a bigger idiot than you look. Enjoy the moment, Steve. Enjoy the moment.

The Urban Tribe vs. Cheech, Cloudy and Rising Son

This match was totally dominated by The Urban Tribe, in particular Dan Maff, who completely dismantled Rising Son early in the match, incapacitating him for the remainder of the match. This left Cheech and Cloudy at the mercy of The Tribe. Dan Maff and B-Boy did most of the dirty work for The Tribe, destroying both men before B-Boy hit Cloudy with an absolutely devastating Wheelbarrow Driver that he calls the Delikado. It wasn’t long before Kingston put Cheech away with the Backfist to the Future, finally putting an end to the brutality.

Winners: The Urban Tribe (D-)

Number 1 Contenders Match for HIW Championship

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/BryanDanielson3.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ColtCabana.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/ElijahBurke.jpg

Bryan Danielson vs. Colt Cabana vs. Elijah Burke

After the carnage that erupted at Uprising in the HIW Title match, nobody could really expect any less in this Triple threat match. The match opened with a surprisingly fiery Colt Cabana heading straight for Elijah Burke, looking to get a level of revenge for the attack with the chair at Uprising. He delivered a flurry of chops and punches to Burke, finally sending him over the top rope with a clothesline, following him over on the way. Not to be left out, Danielson decided to get in on the action, diving through the ropes and sailing into his two opponents. This set the tone for the rest of this exciting match. During the match, Elijah Burke was set to lay Cabana out once again with a steel chair on the outside, however unlike last month at Uprising the referee stepped in, taking the chair away from him before he could do any damage with it. This gave Cabana time to hit a snap Suplex on the hard floor. But before he had time to continue the beating, Danielson delivered an amazing Half and Half Suplex on the outside, doing serious damage to Colt. He then rolled Burke in the ring, ready to end the match and get his shot at the gold. Burke however, had other ideas, and nailed a low blow to Danielson followed by a double knee Gut Buster. Elijah set Danielson Up in the corner, ready to hit the Elijah Express. But Danielson was able to move out of the way and nail a huge Exploder Suplex. He then began nailing Burke with his vicious elbows, which have beaten many opponents on the independent scene. But as he was ready to end it, out came HIW Champion Justin Credible, who climbed the apron, shouting insults towards Danielson. After spotting the champion, Danielson saw red, and headed towards him. The referee however, tried to hold him back. This gave Burke enough time to recover and attack ‘The American Dragon’ from behind. The ref now turned his attention towards Burke, trying to keep him away from Danielson whilst he was in the ropes. As the referee had his back turned to keep Elijah away, Credible nailed Danielson straight between the eyes with his Singapore Cane, knocking him out cold. Burke took the opportunity, dragging Bryan to the centre of the ring and making the cover. But before he could get the all important 3 count, Cabana returned to the ring, delivering a big kick to the head. He followed this by delivering a Colt.45 and finally getting the victory, and the shot at the HIW Champion at Summer Bash.

Winner and Number 1 Contender: Colt Cabana ©

For the benefit of those watching on DVD, we are treated to a short promo by Chris Kanyon.

Kanyon. Next Month at Summer Bash, I enter the HIW International Title Tournament when I face Jimmy Rave. Now I know I may not be getting any younger, but I proved last month that I can still hang with the younger generation. I defeated Chris Hero. I made an impact. And I proved that I’m anything but washed up. And next month, I prove it yet again. I’m going to...

Before he could finish his sentence, he is viciously attacked by Chris Hero, who struck Kanyon’s knee several times with a lead pipe. Officials eventually pulled Hero away. Hero was heard shouting ‘I NEVER FORGET, KANYON! I NEVER FORGET!’

Round 1 of the HIW International Title Tournament

Match 2

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/KidKash.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/NickDinsmore.jpg

Kid Kash vs. Nick Dinsmore

The second match in the HIW International Title tournament was next on the card, and saw the debut of Nick Dinsmore. And it was clear from the start that ‘Eugene’ was dead and buried, as he showed a mean streak that nobody thought was possible from him. Kash tried every underhanded trick in the book to put Dinsmore off his game, but Nick Dinsmore wasn’t going down easily. At one point Kash nailed Dinsmore with two brainbusters in quick succession. But as he attempted to lift Dinsmore of the mat for a third, Dinsmore pulled Kash down by his arm and applied a Triangle Choke. As much as Kash tried, he was unable to break free of the submission, and was eventually forced to tap out.

Winner: NICK DINSMORE (D+)

The main event was up next, as Petey Williams entered the ring first, clearly ready for the match, and the opportunity to become HIW Champion. Finally the music of Justin Credible hit as the HIW Champion slowly made his way to the ring. However, he wasn’t expecting the sudden attack by Bryan Danielson, who almost took Credible’s head off with a devastating lariat before locking in The Cattle Mutilation on the floor. It took half of the locker room to get Danielson off of Credible. Bryan Danielson had to literally be carried away from ringside. But the damage had been done, and now Justin had to defend his title against a hungry challenger.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/JustinCredible.jpghttp://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt306/jw_forever/PeteyWilliams.jpg

Justin Credible vs. Petey Williams

Williams was clearly going to take the advantage he had been given by Danielson, immediately going for submission moves on the arms and back of Justin Credible. Camel Clutch, Fujiwara armbar, Crippler Crossface, you name it he tried it. But there’s a reason that Credible is a champion. Say what you will about Credible, but he’s as tough as they come, holding on and reaching the ropes at every opportunity. Eventually, Credible managed to hit a headbutt to the bridge of the nose of Williams, and followed it up with three snap DDT’s in quick succession. Credible took the upper hand for the next 10-15 minutes, deciding against trying to out wrestle Williams, instead choosing to wear him down with some sickening knees and elbows to the head and back, before nailing a powerbomb into the turnbuckle. This only managed a two count.

Williams would not stay down though, nailing Credible with rights and lefts before hitting the ropes and nailing a huge dropkick that sent the champ to the outside. But before Credible had time to recover, he was hit by a baseball slide by Williams, followed by a suicide dive through the ropes. Williams took it to the champ on the outside, deciding to fight Credible in his element, throwing him into the steel guard rail and steel steps. He then nailed a flapjack onto the steel steps, almost knocking the champion unconscious. As he lifted Credible up to deliver more damage, he was shot into the steel ringpost.

Credible lifted Williams up and signalled for the That’s Incredible piledriver onto the steps, but was distracted by activity near the entrance. Several officials and wrestlers were surrounding somebody, but it was only as they got closer that he noticed the man in question was Bryan Danielson, who still felt he had some business to finish. The referee joined the crowd who were trying to keep an angry and animalistic Danielson away from the ring. Credible was fixated on what was happening with Danielson, and had clearly forgotten about his opponent, who turned him round and kicked him in the mid section, before delivering his destructive Canadian Destroyer piledriver. However, there was no official to count the pinfall. After a while, Petey called up the entrance towards the officials, and didn’t even notice none other than TAMMY LYNN SYTCH enter through the crowd and hand Credible his trusty Singapore Cane. Before he could react, Williams was struck with the cane twice before being levelled by the That’s Incredible. By this point Tammy had gotten the attention of the official, who rushed towards the ring and delivered the three count, putting an end to Credible’s first title defence.

Winner and STILL HIW Champion: JUSTIN CREDIBLE (C-)

The show closed with Tammy and Credible taunting a still furious Bryan Danielson.

SHOW RATING: D+

'The Truth' by James Harding

Welcome to another edition of 'The Truth, in which I take a quick look at some of the stories surrounding the world of professional wrestling. This time around we will be taking a look at HIW's July event, 'Apocalypse', which took place at The Venue in the Mid South. Here is my take on the events that occurred at Apocalypse.

~ BJ Whitmer and Chad Collyer opened the show with a decent match up. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. BJ could rise up the ranks in time, but for me Collyer seems like he will be used as somebody to get the up and coming stars over.

~ I, like many others, was surprised at just how good the match between Arik Cannon and Chris Hero was. I will be the first to admit that I hadn't seen much of Cannon's work prior to this bout, but after seeing him in action here, I have no doubt that he could be a breakout star in the future, putting on possibly the match of the night with Chris Hero. Of coarse, credit also has to go to Hero, who is without question a future Main Event player for HIW. The HIW International Title scene could be a very exciting one if this is any indication. A great bout.

~ The same cannot be said for the second HIW International Tournament match between Nick Dinsmore and Kid Kash. There was nothing bad about this match, but they could certainly have done a lot better than this. It was simply average. After the fantastic match Kash had the previous month with Petey Williams, i was expecting a better performance in this one. As for Dinsmore, I think it may take a while for people to get used to him being a straight up wrestler rather than the goofy characters he has played in the past. He was warmly received, and he is a great worker, no question, but there is a long road ahead for Dinsmore in order to win over the fans completely.

~The Tag Team Championship match was another average match up at best. The Hayashi/Skipper duo worked pretty well with each other, but it was nothing spectacular, and there really wasn't any question as to who would walk away with the belts here. There seems to be quite a few teams forming in HIW, with a new team rumored to be debuting at Summer Bash, but the only team I can legitimately see taking the titles from Albright and Williams would be The Nu Skool Soldiers, which seems to be the direction they are heading in. I think in time the Tag Title scene will pick up. They just need to build their teams up a bit more.

~ The Urban Tribe angle continues and it's still early days, but things are looking up for the stable. Eddie Kingston is possibly the best promo guy in the company (possibly), and the exchanges he has had with Corino have been interesting. Unfortunately their match wasn't what I was hoping for. It's nothing against the performers themselves. But their styles clearly didn't mesh with each other. Plus, it looked like both Eddie Kingston and Rising Son were having a bit of an off night when it came to their performance in the ring. The only person who seemed to be fully focused and on his game was Dan Maff, who played the monster role perfectly. Maff is definitely somebody who should get a decent singles run in the future. But, with the exception of the Kingston/Corino exchange at the start of the match, this one didn't really deliver.

~ DANIELSON IS SCREWED AGAIN! BOO! In all seriousness though, these three put on a great match, another match that could be considered the best of the night. Burke once again proved that he is a future champion, showing some good chemistry with Danielson. It was a nice surprise to see Colt Cabana show a bit of a mean streak. As good as Cabana is in his 'Comedy' role, he often doesn't get the credit he deserves inside the ring, as he is a very sound mat wrestler. And, as usual, Danielson was on top of his game. I can see them dragging the Danielson/Credible storyline out a bit, which could be a good thing or a bad thing. But theres no doubt that Danielson will win the title soon. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. I'm a Danielson mark. Shoot me.

~ The main event was better than I expected. Certainly not as good as the Main Event at Uprising, but certainly a solid bout between the two. Last month I stated that I couldn't see Petey Williams becoming HIW Champion anytime soon. I still stand by that statement. However, after two strong performances in the last two months, I can see him being in the title picture in some capacity for a while. Who knows, he may just become HIW Champion, but it won' be for quite some time, in my view. The big shocker for me was the debut of Tammy Lynn Sytch (formerly Sunny of WWF fame), and her alliance with Credible. She seems to be in good health after her recent weight problems and looks almost as good as she did in her heyday (almost). Her and Credible seem to have excellent chemistry with each other and it will be exciting to see what happens with the two of them.

So there it is. Another decent show, but could have been a lot better. Some good matches, some disappointing ones, but nothing that can been construed as a disaster. A decent show, but not quite as good as their first show.

Update on Marty Jannetty, Former WWF Superstar returns to wrestling, HIW News plus more

~ In an update on the passing of former WWF Superstar Marty Jannetty, it appears that it was indeed drug related. Jannetty had a past with narcotics, but it was widely believed that he was clean. This was clearly not the case.

~ Former WWF, WCW and ECW star Perry Saturn came out of hiding today, announcing that he will be returning to the ring sometime in the near future. Saturn has been on the missing list for quite some time, as even close friends were unsure of his whereabouts, leading to rumors that he may even have passed away. But his announcement puts an end to those rumors, and it will be interesting to see who signs him up.

~WWE have once again begun signing independent stars to developmental contracts. Two wrestlers recently signed are Brandon Thomaselli and Ryan Cruz. It is expected that more signings will be made in the next few weeks.

~ In other WWE news, Jeff Hardy has finally extended his contract with WWE, keeping him with the company for the foreseeable future. The same cannot be said for Tommy Dreamer, who's contract comes up for renewal soon. However, WWE have yet to offer Dreamer an extension, leading many to believe he will be gone by the end of the month.

~ HIW today announced they have a working agreement with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. One of their top stars is expected to make an appearance at HIW Summer Bash. Speaking of Summer Bash, the card for HIW's third show is due to be announced in the next few days.

Fixed. :D

I'm a Danielson mark, what can I say.

That's bizarre that Marty died just one day after retiring. I've never seen anything like that, in my experience.

Thanks for fixing that for me :D

As for Marty, I must admit it's the first time i've come across anything like that in-game. I won't be reporting on all deaths, but I thought Marty was high profile enough to mention. Plus with it happening just one day after his retirement, I thought it was pretty news worthy.
