TCW: A Quiet Retirement

Recommended Posts

Phantom totally needs to do a Trios/Six-Man championship for all the 3-man teams he's got:

The Machines/Marc Speed

Easy Riders/Sayeed Ali

Rocky Golden/Rick Law/Chris Rockwell

Kreed/Sam Keith

Any three of Omega

...Huggins' Heroes

Any three of Darkwave

Any three of Painful Procedure

Ino & Team VIPER

Jeremy Stone & Eternal Party

Tyler & Global Tradition

Baine & M.A.D. (Buffalo used to team with Baine and they've wrestled a six-man in here before)

Yeah. Anyone who's read this far knows I love alliances and mini-factions as well as full stables, but Hashasheen predicts correctly here.

The plan, in the near future, is to do a one-month Trios tournament for a trophy. I can't fit another regularly-defended belt onto PPVs without dropping a slot for non-title grudge matches, and doing that seems unwise - but this is the next best thing.

Here, actually, I can appeal to the readers.

I can't decide what to call the trophy. Suggestions gratefully received.

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch

In their first match as a trio, Huggins' Heroes hold it together well against a much stronger side – concentrating on leverage and all the other tricks technicians have evolved for neutralising height, weight, and power advantages.

The Lions still function like the perfectly-synched team they've become – Walter Morgan doesn't so much shock the audience as leave it gaping at one point, leaping from the top turnbuckle to crash onto Billy Fonda, preventing the Riders from executing the Emergency Stop.

In the end, though, it's Sean Deeley who wraps this one up, forcing Sayeed Ali to submit to his Sure Shot armlock.

Ecstatic, Laura rolls into the ring and flings her arms around Deeley. The two kiss – the first time, onscreen – and Laura then looks around. On the outside, a smiling Walter Morgan tosses a microphone into the ring, with Sean snagging it and passing it to her.

She grins, still clearly on a high, and turns to face the hard camera. “So we can only do one thing, huh?”

“Well, maybe you're right, Davis, but we just showed you how little that matters.

“When you are the very best at something... it's enough. You want to try to be everything...

“Well, when the British Lions get their hands on you, you're going to end up with nothing. You mark my words...

“One day soon, the name is going to be Laura Huggins, manager of champions.

“Your belts just happen to be the first in line, right now.”

El Leon vs. Tyson Baine

Leon has impressed in defeat throughout his short time in TCW to date – and this match is no exception, in either sense. Baine is still clearly a destructive force, but Leon has been studying – he skirts his attack, striking fast and effectively. In the end, though... a couple of punches from Baine daze him, a slam nearly knocks him out, and then the Hades Bomb ends it.

Edd Stone vs. Fox Mask

Edd accidentally gives himself a handicap early in this one; having staggered the Coastal Zone favourite with a couple of lefts, he tries for a headbutt, getting the mask's muzzle in his eye. The International Champion staggers away somewhat comically, and Fox Mask takes the opportunity to strut his stuff.

All too quickly, however, Edd rallies, rolling clear of a moonsault attempt and taking over, showing what he can do before catching Fox Mask with the Edd-Renaline Shot superkick to secure the pin.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddStone_alt6.jpg

“Whoo!” Edd springs over the top rope to drop to the mat outside and grabs the microphone from the ring announcer as he's halfway through announcing Edd's name in victory. Then he rolls back into the ring.

“Another day, another dollar, another one down. Because, you see, I've got the speed... and the brains. The thing you gotta remember is that I can outrun Tana and outthink Elemental... not that outwitting Elemental is all that hard.

“But that's what a champion is, right? That's what a champion needs to be.” He grins.

“That's me... not those guys.” He taps his head. “See, I've got everything to beat them right here. I could take those two, with this, if I was a quadruple amputee.” By now, his slow turn to address the crowd has him standing with his back to the entrance ramp; he stops turning, continuing to talk.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/CanadianElemental.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TanaTheMighty.jpg

“Now, you're probably sitting there and you're thinking hang on, those two aren't bad. And I guess they're not, if you just look at what they can do; Tana has power, Canadian Elemental has moves. But they can't put them together -” the two wrestlers in question appear on the ramp, with Edd's back to them - “and they just can't think. So I'm still not that worried.”

The two challengers start to run down toward the ring. Edd continues his tirade.

“Actually, I tell a lie. You're not thinking that. You're thinking that this isn't the way Edd Stone goes about things, and you're wishing I'd just come up with something funny.”

A large figure in a KREED hoodie punches Canadian Elemental from the crowd barrier.

“Maybe some kind of trick to beat them down.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Gorgon-1.jpg

The figure vaults the rail, and in the process her hood falls down, revealing Gorgon. She starts to stomp the fallen cruiserweight. Giant Tana hesitates, turning, and moves to intercept.

“Well, guess what?” He grins. “I'm going about things just the way I always did. The only question is whether they were both dumb enough to fall for this, or just one.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/ChampagneLover.jpg

Tana gets hit by a dropkick as Champagne Lover comes in from the other side of the aisle. The pair of Edd's allies hit hard, then herd their targets to the ring.

A three-on-two beatdown ensues, and while Tana is able to stand his ground, things look bad for the duo – even after Canadian Elemental ducks a swing by Edd and gets the Elemental Suplex out of nowhere.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JeriLynnStone.jpg

Lover gets knocked back to the corner – and he's immediately grabbed in an inverted headlock. JeriLynn Stone flips forward into the Girl's Best Friend.

The two sides line up and square off – and then JeriLynn points to ringside.

She'd brought Eugene Williams down with her. Williams calls for the bell and a surprise six-man tag is on!

Eternal Party & Gorgon vs. Canadian Elemental, Giant Tana & JeriLynn Stone

It's a pretty hectic six-man tag. Already having wrestled takes an obvious toll on Edd; on the other hand, Elemental and Tana have taken some serious punishment already, too, and it's a tricky question as to which of those will make the greater difference – because whichever it is will likely decide the match as a whole.

JeriLynn, of course, has her own goal. When, early on, Edd tries once again to land the Edd-Renaline Shot, she catches her uncle's kick smoothly in both hands – then she sweeps his leg out from under him and takes a heavy stomp at the ankle, then another. She fixes her gaze on Gorgon, locking eyes, as she applies an Indian deathlock.

Gorgon watches back, impassive, but JeriLynn slowly smiles. Suddenly, she calls out “I know!” With that, she releases the hold, takes two paces forward – and launches into a dropkick to hit Gorgon's ankle. It knocks her foot off the apron; the youngest competing Stone pops back up and scores with a superkick, an Edd-Renaline Shot, to knock her all the way off.

JeriLynn promptly tags out to CanEl, who comes in to handle Edd for a while. Hard to say which of the two gets the better of that contest, but certainly Elemental looks like a potential world-beater.

With Tana supplying the power, the impromptu trio start to turn the tables, but when JeriLynn's tagged back in, she once again makes it her mission to target Gorgon – and as Champagne Lover's the legal man for the other team, that allows him to land the Lover Stunner and score the pin.

Music begins to play as the big screen comes to life; at home, the well-remembered video introducing the Malice in Chains match concept begins to play.

A giant, empty, circular structure... it could be a steel framework for a house, at this point...

Liberty slams Tommy Cornell into the 'bulletproof glass' of a pod door, his own face a mess of blood...

“This will not stand, you know? This aggression will not stand, ************!”

Lengths of steel chain are woven around the structure, a confining, restricting lattice...

Rip Chord, in one of his last matches, hits the Rip Chord DDT onto the steel-grid floor. Genghis Rahn's face drips blood onto unpainted metal.

“Malice in Chains is the sickest thing I've ever been involved with.”

Sam Strong, business-suited, stands in the ring as the Chains structure is constructed around him.

“I thank God I retired when I did. This match... is beyond anything anybody should have to contend with.”

Ricky Dale Johnson rails at Karen Killer as BLZ Bubb's ally prevents the ref from releasing his pod, allowing him to fight.

“Every year, the chance to fight for the title in Malice comes up. And every year, it takes me a month to be ready. One day I'll lose my nerve entirely – but until then, I'll keep fighting.”

Peter Valentine takes a brutal elbow drop from rare smaller entrant Electrico – leaping from the top of a pod to drive his body home.

“The name doesn't do that match justice. I coughed up blood for a week.”

A younger Cornell, bleeding visibly, HGC title resting on his lap as the EMTs stitch up a long gash across his shoulder, stares at the camera. “Was it worth it? For the World Championship?

“If I had to, I'd go in again... but thank Christ I've got another year before it'll happen.”

Rocky Golden vs. Zimmy

It's fast, this one; Zimmy has astonishing speed, when he wants to, and Rocky actually picks up the pace to take the fight to him. The biggest moments are probably the moment where Zimmy tries the Blood Rush and Rocky counters into a massive twisting powerslam, at one point being a full two feet in the air at his lowest point before they crash to the mat – a moment that leads to the crowd erupting in disbelief when Zimmy kicks out.

Fry's voice rings out from the kickout. “I've always said that kid had potential, but I cannot believe he could handle that!”

Zimmy not only survives but he begins a comeback, at one point successfully sending the big man halfway back across the ring with a springboard dropkick. But while he tries his best, Rocky is able to contain him, eventually positioning himself such that the ref can't see to nail the Rocky Road and pick up the win.

There's a long pause after that match ends – maybe thirty seconds or so. At first the announce team is silent, then Springsteen breaks the silence. “Hold up, people... something's happening backstage. Apparently, someone's on their way out here...”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MayhemMidden.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/CharlieThatcher_nac2.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TommyCornell_alt1jt.jpg

Shout At The Devil hits, and after a moment, leaning heavily on a steel walking stick, Mayhem Midden emerges. A step behind him is Charlie Thatcher, still wielding his two baseball bats – and a step after that is Tommy Cornell. Cornell seems unarmed, but flashes a lazy thumbs-up to the camera as the trio head down the ramp – revealing that along that hand he's sporting brass knuckles.

Thatcher collects a microphone for Midden as Cornell parts the ropes, helping her climb into the ring.

“First off,” he begins. “I'm glad to see this place didn't fall apart without me here.” He grins. “I knew it wouldn't – Tommy used to do all the arranging himself – but it's still good to see.

“Now.

“I don't know for sure which of Generation Omega it was did this to me. But this is putting you on notice...

“If you don't cough up who it was, I'm going to have to bring the pain for all of you.

“And believe me... I'm more than capable of bringing you all the pain you could imagine.” He nods sourly. “Let's start with your titles. Before, it was just Tommy trying to strip those belts off you; as of right now... I'm going to be making sure of it myself.

“We're not stripping the belts off you. The fans would not accept it – not when we don't know which of you was responsible. But we can make this a LOT tougher for you.”

“But that, my friends, is just the beginning. Be prepared for your lives to become hell... or tell me who attacked me. It's your choice.”

Joey Minnesota w/ Phil Vibert vs. Sean McFly

Considering Midden's promises seem set to turn Generation Omega against one another, the qualifier that has the potential to add a second member into the Malice in Chains mix sounds like a nasty one. Pride, too, is on the line for both men; these two have clashed before and come up even.

Joey and Sean put together an astonishing match at a blistering pace – it's about as close to the perfect TCW match as you can get, except for one little thing.

Unfortunately, that one little thing is the finish – and it does cut the fans short a little.

Minnesota has finally, on the third attempt, nailed the Empire Spiral. He drops to cover for the pin – one, two -

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/AaronAndrews-1.jpg

Aaron Andrews pulls Joey out of the ring. With nineteen minutes on the clock and Minnesota drained, Aaron flips him the bird – and stalks away before he can be called for a DQ, as Fry notes – he's there to cost Joey the match, not hand it to him.

Back in the ring, Joey gets caught with the Delorean Driver and a very snug pinfall to put McFly through

Chris Rockwell & Tommy Cornell vs. Matthew Keith & Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Cornell and Remo start as the legal men, which prompts Fry to pre-emptively declare this one a barnstormer.

They tie-up to start, Cornell looking for a whip to the ropes – Remo stands his ground and drops him with a lariat.

He gets Cornell into the corner but Tommy ducks out, dashes half the length of the ring, baits the Generation Omega man in, and sidesteps to send Remo into Rockwell who promptly gives him a punch to the head.

Keith comes into the ring and Rockwell does too, evening the sides and leading to an early standoff.

It seems Remo has no time for that; he closes with Rockwell, punching him in the gut, and gets a slam – then a slam on Cornell! Keith heads back to the corner, seeing no need to exert himself.

It looks like the Generation Omega man feels he has this well in hand, as he then ascends to the top turnbuckle – not an entirely unusual move, but certainly not a common one for the big man.

Rockwell runs the length of the ring and grabs a rope, putting his weight on it to yank it out of place and crotch Remo on the top rope. He staggers down, standing on the apron, and Cornell capitalises, grabbing his head with both hands and snapping the neck across the top rope before bundling to tag in his partner.

Rockwell comes in and looks to keep Remo off balance with a volley of punches. It kind of works, but Remo starts to fire back – Chris tags out again, and the pair double-team Remo before whipping him to the ropes, and Remo explodes with a charging double lariat.

Remo heads back to the top rope. This time, with the ring under control, he's able to soar, landing a collossal frog splash on Cornell.

Remo tags out and Keith comes into the ring, whipping Cornell to the corner and hitting a running knee to the gut.

Keith and Cornell go at it; Irish whip by Cornell and he gets a big backdrop to send Keith into Remo. Snapmare by Cornell and he punches Keith repeatedly in the head. He leaves him down for a moment and takes a second to listen to the crowd before tagging in Rockwell.

Rockwell picks up Keith but it turns out that the younger man was ready for that; he drives an elbow into his gut then springs up to nail a snap suplex, mounting for a volley of punches before rising up – and dropping a knee to Rockwell's shoulder immediately.

With his arm thus weakened, Keith goes for the Proton Lock but Rockwell counters out; he grabs an inverted headlock and drops him down for an improvised backbreaker, keeping hold and flipping over into a neckbreaker to follow.

He applies a wristlock – Keith rolls through and reverses the hold into an armbar – Rockwell elbows clear and gets a hammerlock – leg trip by Keith and he rides down into a hammerlock of his own, before Rockwell handstands out and vaults clear, and the pair stand off. Cornell tags back in and comes for Matthew Keith, who catches him with a drop toe-hold and grabs a single-leg crab. He holds it for a few seconds before the owner of the company makes it to the ropes.

Matthew promptly grabs him for a back suplex; Cornell rolls through to land on his feet and looks for a sleeper hold; Keith can't break it, but can get an arm far enough out to make the tag.

Remo punches Cornell full in the face and the hold is broken. He comes into the ring, whipping Cornell to the turnbuckles and being there a second later with a huge boot.

Cornell is shaken and staggered; Remo goes for the Lumbar Puncture, but Rockwell's there to save, running along the ropes to deliver a jumping enzuigiri. That prevents the move, and Cornell looks to capitalise, regaining his feet. With Ray Johnson admonishing Rockwell, there's a clear window of opportunity; Cornell promptly punts Remo in the crotch.

With Vibert screaming in outrage and the crowd roaring in approval, the company owner gets Remo up and drops him with the Rough Ride, then jumps to cover. Johnson dives to make the count and Rockwell slides into the ring to prevent Keith from interfering. ONE, TWO, THRE- NO!

Nobody in the crowd can believe that one, but Remo kicked out under his own steam. He makes it up, too, but tags out.

“Does the Supreme Specimen have limits after all?” Fry demands.

In comes Keith. Cornell and Keith lock up; a go-behind by Cornell; snapmare by Keith – and a dropkick to the back of the head!

“Cornell's taken a beating so far,” Saunders offers. “No wonder he lost that exchange.”

“No wonder anyway. That's Sam Keith's son.”

Matt tries for the Neutron Plex, and Cornell manages to block. He disengages and spins around -

- and gets a mouthful of red Asian Mist right in the face. Keith drops him with a DDT – masking what's happened to his face from Johnson – and locks down the Proton Lock immediately.

His face feels like it's on fire and he's locked in one of the world's most famously dangerous holds. He taps almost without hesitation.

Wednesday 17th August 2009

Weirdest day I've had since taking this job. My darling wife Maggie brought me out to Bard College, where she teaches literature and performing arts.

She's been trying to persuade me to do this for most of the past year. Every month, she brings someone in who works in what she calls 'stories by chapter' to discuss how they do it. Last month there was a comic book writer; the month before that was the guy who did The Wire and I think she had one of the staff on General Hospital a year or so ago.

So there I was, sat in front of a bunch of the brightest kids I've ever met, talking about what makes a good pro wrestling story. Then they started asking questions, and frankly, my head is still spinning.

The two things we really got talking about were writing around injuries and swerves. Fortunately, one kid in the class was a TCW fan, and he really, really wanted to talk about the early part of the year – Wolf not just turning on Tommy, but also joining Phil Vibert.

So I discussed that – the reasoning behind it, that is. I mentioned Rip Chord's stock advice for anyone starting to play heel - “A heel must always be justified in their own mind. They have to be able to see themselves as the good guy.” I talked about the difference between Wolf turning on Tommy – as a moment everyone expected – and Wolf joining Generation Omega – a moment very few of our fans, if any, saw coming.

The difference, in real terms... is business. People knew that Tommy and Wolf would split, and we teased it to keep fans' attention and sell tickets.

But that was a story end; at best, we'd sell another PPV off it's back. Instead, Wolf joined Vibert and legitimised Generation Omega in a second, setting up a year's sales.

You have to have the two. You have to have stories build, and the fans have to anticipate it. But you also need swerves, from time to time.

Big, big news today. George DeColt's handed over the reins at CGC.

He's been in charge since the start. He took a hell of a gamble with the money he'd made, and he inspired Dan Stone to do the same. He made household names, in Canada – plenty of them, and none more so than his boys.

But George is 65. When I teamed with Crippler Ray Kingman against him and Whipper Spencer Marks, back in the old CWF, I was a big enough name to main event – but against Gorgeous George, I was billed as a snot-nosed punk, and I sure wasn't placed on his level the way that Ray was.

This isn't sour grapes, by the way. My CWF headline paydays were better money than I got anywhere else until my one Supreme Challenge main event against Sam Strong, and compared to the Calgary Wolverines, I was on a lower level – but alongside Ray, we were just close enough to scare the fans and sell tickets.

No, the point is just that he's getting old. And by the sound of things... he feels he's done with travelling to oversee each show. I don't blame him, and I wish him well.

His son Steve's taken over. I hope, for everyone employed there's sake, that Steve proves to be the businessman his father was... the wrestling world always needs as many places for people to leanr and strut their stuff as possible. Without my time in CWF, I'd never have had that Supreme Challenge shot, either.

Friday 19th August 2009

It's actually more like Saturday now, but the last part of today led to an emergency brainstorming session.

The good news; as Badge of Honor's opening match impressed Sean McFly, he's decided to start working with Warren Technique, helping the newcomer improve, and generally teaching him the ropes. This can only help Warren.

The just downright strange news; at USPW's PPV, Peter Valentine unseated Enygma to win the USPW World Championship.

This is what led to a brainstorming session. Sam Strong is not a foolish man, and Valentine has never been a great draw. Which means they're planning something.

We spent some hours trying to work out what – because it's got to be big.

But, I confess... the wisdom of handing Valentine your top belt still escapes me.

With just one week until Hotter Than Hell, TCW is heating up. The main event tonight is likely to have some serious ramifications... so let's see what they are.

In the opening contest, Frankie Dee once again sets his sights against one of TCW's best - in this case, former World Heavyweight Champion Johnny Bloodstone. Bloodstone has to be considered the favourite - but Dee is building up a reputation as a danger to his opponents.

Tag team action follows, with perennial underdogs Acid Dragon - who, it has to be said, have been building up a solid winning record in non-televised action these past two months - locking up with tag championship contenders the Texas Outlaws. Floyd Bowman never went to Canada, but the reputation of his charges precedes him, and he's sure to win fans fast.

In further tag competition, Dee's stablemates Global Tradition have a few wins of their own to add to, but with the Young Guns as their opponents, it's going to be quite the challenge. Hard to say which team truly has the advantage, but what's certain is this; it's going to be satisfying to watch.

Current womens division frontrunner JeriLynn Stone will accept a challenge, too, as Zoe Ammis makes her second televised appearance. The mistress of the Double Cross is a woman to be feared in any wrestling company... and her arrival in TCW doesn't change that.

In the Colisee de Kahnawake, next, a Canadian daredevil goes one on one with a former DaVE legend, as Canadian Elemental takes on New Wave member Guide - who has his own mix of speed and power. Can Elemental add a sizable new feather to his cap?

Wolf Hawkins will face Sam Keith to defend his title this Sunday. In preparation, he requested - and was granted - a non-title match against Greg Keith. With Art Reed having pinned the champion clean, his tag partner will be looking to equal that feat - not just for his own sake, but also to give his father confidence - but it's a lot easier said than done.

The main event, meanwhile, looks to be huge. With all six men involved in Malice in Chains taking part, this six-man tag is for big stakes - the man who scores the pinfall or forces the submission which ends this one will be given a place of honour in the last pod to be opened, giving them a major advantage in the match.

Frankie Dee vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Johnny is too big name for Dee to overcome jsut yet.

Acid Dragon vs. Texas Outlaws w/ Floyd Bowman

Bigger names

Global Tradition vs. Young Guns

Both teams could use the win so I just go with personal preferense.

JeriLynn Stone vs. Zoe Ammis

stone picks up a win against debuting Ammis.

Canadian Elemental vs. Guide

Hard one but Guide is a tag guy and Elemental would get out more from the victory.l

Greg Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert (non-title)

I doubt that Wolf would lose here even though it´s non-title agaisnt a good opponent.

WINNER ENTERS MALICE IN CHAINS LAST

Art Reed, Jeremy Stone & Sean McFly w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Champagne Lover, Marc DuBois & Matthew Keith w/ Phil Vibert

I wonder if Jeremy is able to co-exist here but I think he gets some opportunity to take the pin and uses it to his advantage.

Frankie Dee vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Let's not get silly.

Acid Dragon vs. Texas Outlaws w/ Floyd Bowman

Even if Acid Dragon was going to get pushed, Outlaws are too new to weather an upset.

Global Tradition vs. Young Guns

Neither one of these teams deserves to win a televised match. But the Young Guns are kind of a joke.

JeriLynn Stone vs. Zoe Ammis

I'm not opposed to an Ammis push... she's my second-favorite women's worker behind only Melody Cuthill. But is it going to happen, given that you'd need to interfere with Apocryphal Stone's push to give it to her? Unlikely.

Canadian Elemental vs. Guide

Feed CanEl a capable opponent (who has his tag team to go back to) on his home turf = make him a legitimate challenger to Edd.

Greg Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert (non-title)

This is just a good match to serve as the semi-main event, not anything to further a storyline.

WINNER ENTERS MALICE IN CHAINS LAST

Art Reed, Jeremy Stone & Sean McFly w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Champagne Lover, Marc DuBois & Matthew Keith w/ Phil Vibert

Agreed... presence of a heel on a nominally face team = huge red flag to me.

It's relatively easy to predict cards like this, that make you wish you got your predictions in first, because your comments just sound like re-hashes of what everyone before you said...oh well lets see if I can come up with some original insight upon these matches

Frankie Dee vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

It would be a mighty fall from grace for the former world champ, if he were to lose to Frankie Dee. That's no knock on Dee, just pointing out the reality of the situation put before him.

Acid Dragon vs. Texas Outlaws w/ Floyd Bowman

Acid Dragon still have that odour of jobber about them, Texas Outlaws are also a relatively new pairing of two relatively upper card talents, one a fading legend the other a candidate for TCW's most improved.

Global Tradition vs. Young Guns

Whilst Oregano Jensen's assessment is a little harsh 'don't deserve to be on TV'....this is basically a shoot-out between two glorified jobber tandems. The not so Young Guns do seem to have more of purpose by being part of the re-hashed (but relatively irrelevant) Painful Procedure, whilst Global Tradition are two old has-beens who the low men of an even more irrelevant and crumbling stable.

JeriLynn Stone vs. Zoe Ammis

JeriLyn is the one being involved in angles and getting a push, Ammis is just here to look up at the lights.

Canadian Elemental vs. Guide

This could go the other way as Guide is no slouch, but fact is Canadian Elemental is getting a singles push, and getting a win over an established midcarder (albeit one who is primarily a tag specialist) will only serve to help that push along a little more.

Greg Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert (non-title)

This should be a good match, but non title or not....I think you want to keep the World Champion looking strong...had there been some kind of angle/push for Greg towards getting a title shot, then it would be more tempting to call the upset.

WINNER ENTERS MALICE IN CHAINS LAST

Art Reed, Jeremy Stone & Sean McFly w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Champagne Lover, Marc DuBois & Matthew Keith w/ Phil Vibert

I'll probably regret this, as Zergon's logic about Jezza getting the win here makes a lot of sense, but because this match could legitimately go the other way, I'm going to pick the 100% heel team to get the win here. I think I'll be wrong, but there's no contest anyway, so I may as well gamble.

Frankie Dee vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Not a chance.

Acid Dragon vs. Texas Outlaws w/ Floyd Bowman

Acid Dragon have pulled off some awesome matches, but the new Outlaws need more exposure in the over-crowded TCW tag division.

Global Tradition vs. Young Guns

Global Tradition are more jobbery than the Guns.

JeriLynn Stone vs. Zoe Ammis

Easy, she has a plotline.

Canadian Elemental vs. Guide

Tempting to give it to Guide due to Edd-erference, but no, CanEl has a plotline.

Greg Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert (non-title)

A* match? Maybe. Victory for Greg? Not really.

WINNER ENTERS MALICE IN CHAINS LAST

Art Reed, Jeremy Stone & Sean McFly w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Champagne Lover, Marc DuBois & Matthew Keith w/ Phil Vibert

Marc needs a rub. He's had no serious plotlines, and his 'master of mind games' schtick can only carry him so far. He's the weakest of the contenders, but putting him over here will give him a chance to do his Funky Thang when match time comes. He won't win MiC, but he'll look good.

While Bloodstone clearly has the advantage here, this is another match where Frankie Dee looks to have learned even more. In discussion of this, Dangerous provokes a heated conversation, apparently, accidentally, with one simple sentence.</p><p> </p><p>

“Yeah, if you ask me, he'll be the next one to leave the School of Tradition in the lurch.”</p><p> </p><p>

A debate about that and the School of Tradition's current woes ensues, while Dee and Bloodstone continue to pop the crowd with hard shots and swift exchanges. Acid Dragon vs. Texas Outlaws w/ Floyd Bowman</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Say what you want about the School of Tradition's win/loss record, they clearly do good work. </p><p> </p><p>

Acid and UK Dragon both put on an amazing showing here – UK Dragon even lands a Death Valley Driver on the much bigger Ricky Dale Johnson – but the Outlaws have a remarkable cohesion and a constant stream of foul-mouthed encouragement at ringside. </p><p> </p><p>

They also have power; Texas Pete is really the star of this one, wiping Acid out with his through-the-ropes plancha to the outside, and eventually nailing the UK Dragon with the Lone Star Drop to pick up the win.</p><p>

<span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/FloydBowman_jhd2.jpg</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Floyd Bowman rolls into the ring as the Outlaws celebrate and he's got a microphone in hand. “One more ****in' match, one more ****in' win,” he announces, gloating a little. “Brothers and sisters, I've got me a little honey of a dream right now.</p><p> </p><p>

“See, that little honey of a dream dates back to... that.” He points at the big screen, which obligingly lights up with a photo of the TWL tag team title belts – in the hands of Floyd and Austin McCoy.</p><p> </p><p>

“First time I ever tasted gold, and ain't no ****in' gold sweeter than your first except the ****in' biggest, you know?</p><p> </p><p>

“But that brings me to today... and these ****in' beauties.” The image changes; this time, taking pride of place on the screen are the TCW World Tag Team Championship belts, in the last promo picture released – the Kreed holding them (as Azaria notes that GenOme have yet to agree to the traditional photograph of the champions with their belts). </p><p> </p><p>

“Because those two belts there, brothers and sisters, those two ****in' belts are with no shadow of a doubt whatsoever the ****in' biggest prize in tag competition. And that ain't no horse****.</p><p> </p><p>

“Sure, there's tournaments and **** you have to ****in' respect out there, but for a day in, day out challenge, nothing comes close to belts you've gotta defend, you get me? And in TCW, you defend against the very ****in' best or let me tell you, you ain't gonna be champs for that ****in' long.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Now, two boys who think they've been up to ****in' scratch have those belts at the moment. And the guys they've beaten are pretty ****in' good, meaning these two are pretty ****in' good.</p><p> </p><p>

“What they aren't is the very ****in' best because, let me tell ya, whenever they're active, the Texas Outlaws are ****in' automatically the very best team out there.</p><p> </p><p>

“So... hey, I see Harry Dangerous down there...” he raises his hand in salute, and Dangerous waves back.</p><p> </p><p>

“Let me just borrow a saying I heard in Britain, where Harry got himself trained. GenOme, British Lions, whatever you call yourselves, however much you may <em>think</em> you're hot ****...</p><p> </p><p>

“...<em>you're gonna get your ****in' heads kicked in.</em> I want the Outlaws holding gold again. And, my friends, you better believe that ****.”</p><p>

Global Tradition vs. Young Guns</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

While neither of these teams has developed much of a Canadian following, the fundamentals of all four men are solid, and they know their way to an entertaining match. </p><p> </p><p>

As the majority of the Quebecois fans head to the merchandise tables or the concession stands, the Young Guns collide with Global Tradition in a good, grounded match that would likely have won more applause ten years previous.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/ZimmyBumfhole_alt1.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Nonetheless, they keep going, and while the Canadian fans probably prefer the matwork of certain home-grown teams, they salute what's done here at the end, when Morgan drops at just the right time for an invading Zimmy to nail the Blood Rush on Allen. </p><p> </p><p>

With Harry down, in comes Steve Gumble, who tries for a back suplex – and JD Morgan rides it down into the Cross-Atlantic Stretch, picking up the win by submission.</p><p>

Backstage, and Autumn Gleeson smiles into the camera. “Good evening to our fans here in Quebec and watching elsewhere through Canada, the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Japan,” she begins. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/KateDangerous.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

“The situation with TCW Womens Champion Gorgon and her challenger JeriLynn Stone has been raising more and more questions over the past couple of weeks; while JeriLynn herself prepares for her match – coming up next – I'm here with her close friend Kate Dangerous.</p><p> </p><p>

“Kate, we've seen a lot of strange events lately. A couple of weeks ago, Gorgon seemingly deviated from her usual unfazed attitude, interfering in a match to further her own interests – usually, she only strikes when Edd or Jeremy Stone want help – to try to injure JeriLynn Stone.</p><p> </p><p>

“And Edd Stone has suggested that it's because JeriLynn's father tried to give her some message.</p><p> </p><p>

“Do you have any light to shed on that?”</p><p> </p><p>

Kate Dangerous takes a long moment to consider before answering.</p><p> </p><p>

“Autumn, let me start out by saying a few things. JeriLynn and I have partnered up because both of us are part of a rare breed, although one that's getting more and more common. Our fathers were competitors in this sport, and so were our grandfathers.</p><p> </p><p>

“That's a bond, and it's what helps us understand each other – because, let's not forget, I'm eight years older than she is and I've been wrestling now for a full ten years.</p><p> </p><p>

“If we met each other in a club I'm not sure we'd have hit it off... but that's why I stand by her side. We've got to stick together.</p><p> </p><p>

“Now, what difference do those ten years make?”</p><p> </p><p>

Autumn considers. “Well, I'd guess... experience?”</p><p> </p><p>

Dangerous nods. “Right. Really, you should be hearing this from JeriLynn – but she's got a match to prepare for, and given the choice of talking to a Canadian audience and wrestling in front of a Canadian audience, she took the right choice. She took the match.</p><p> </p><p>

“The difference isn't in skill – JeriLynn's an incredibly gifted competitor, and being trained in the House of Stone, she knows a bundle of moves I don't, and some of the ones we both know, she can do better.</p><p> </p><p>

“What she can't always do is see what an opponent's weakness is – but her father can.</p><p> </p><p>

“I'm not sure it's a weakness I could capitalise on – but JeriLynn is House of Stone trained.</p><p> </p><p>

“I'm looking forward to Sunday. I'm looking forward to watching a new champion crowned, looking up to the heavens, knowing her mom is looking down. Knowing, five years on, she made her mother proud.”</p><p> </p><p>

“So... what's the weakness?”</p><p> </p><p>

Dangerous grins. “You don't need to know, Autumn. Hell, I don't. JeriLynn does – and Gorgon may have worked it out, but if she hasn't, I'm not gonna...” She laughs. “I'm not gonna spell it out for her.”</p><p>

JeriLynn Stone vs. Zoe Ammis</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Zoe Ammis, in her second televised match for TCW, shows the skills that brought her to the company's attention. She makes this one genuinely tough on JeriLynn, notably hitting a sequence that opens with a suplex, a snap suplex, a stalling vertical suplex, and then a superplex – but the youngest competing Stone gets her shoulder up. </p><p> </p><p>

With the crowd shocked, Ammis goes for her straitjacket backbreaker, the Double Cross – but JeriLynn counters out and starts to fight back, flowing smoothly until she picks up the win with the From Canada With Love.</p><p>

JeriLynn mounts the turnbuckle, shooting an imaginary pistol at the hard camera with a grin, as is her usual custom after a win. And as she does so, Gorgon arrives. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JeremyStone.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A clubbing blow to the back sets up a back suplex from the second rope, and Gorgon promptly sets up for the Hydra Bomb – and then Jeremy Stone is in the ring, staring her down. </p><p> </p><p>

Gorgon shrugs – while holding JeriLynn – then delivers the Hydra Bomb. Jeremy steps forward, putting himself behind the champion and his daughter.</p><p> </p><p>

Gorgon looks at him, then past him, to the fallen challenger. She moves to step past him, and Jeremy moves to block her.</p><p> </p><p>

Gorgon punches him – hard enough to send him a couple of paces back. She returns her attention to the challenger, picking JeriLynn up, hoisting her for a slam - </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/KateDangerous.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Stone is right back there, plucking his daughter off the champion's shoulder and setting her down elsewhere. He turns – Gorgon charges – and Jeremy moves with it, plucking her leg out from under her, applying the Stone Ankle Stretch, as Kate Dangerous pulls JeriLynn from the ring, helping her escape.</p><p> </p><p>

Gorgon powers out fast, but the challenger has escaped the assault.</p><p> </p><p>

Canadian Elemental vs. Guide</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Hectic, fast-paced high flying, allowing Elemental to shine in front of his hometown crowd. Guide hits hard, but he's outpaced and outflanked by the innovative masked man – and while he does his best to adjust for that, it doesn't quite work. </p><p> </p><p>

The Guided Missile hits, but Elemental is close enough to the ropes that he's able to get his feet to them – and the way the rope vibrates, it almost looks like someone else might have had their feet there, only to have them knocked off by that response.</p><p> </p><p>

Elemental needs a few moments to recover after that, but when he sidesteps a second Guided Missile he gets that chance as Guide ricochets off the turnbuckle.</p><p> </p><p>

A leg sweep sets up the Phoenix Firebird Splash, and that ends it.</p><p>

<em>Breakin' The Law</em> hits, with Tommy Cornell coming out to it, backed by Mayhem Midden – still leaning on his steel cane.</p><p> </p><p>

“Well,” Cornell begins, once he's in the ring and the crowd's response has died down, “start of the month, if I'm remembering right, Remo came out and said he had his eyes set on a target.</p><p> </p><p>

Greg Keith vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Undisputably, at this stage in his championship reign, Wolf Hawkins has proved that he's one of the best competitors in the promotion. On the other hand... against the fastest, the smartest, the slickest...</p><p> </p><p>

Wolf always seems catchable. Here, he does a fantastic job of making it look like Greg could beat him without ever looking less than championship material. </p><p> </p><p>

After the Full Moon Rising is countered, Greg tries for the Proton Lock, but Wolf's able to get clear. </p><p> </p><p>

A series of rollups keep the crowd excited before Wolf nails the Wolf's Call again to pick up the win.</p><p>

Art Reed, Jeremy Stone & Sean McFly w/ Blonde Bombshell</p><p>

vs.</p><p>

Champagne Lover, Marc DuBois & Matthew Keith w/ Phil Vibert</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Keith and Reed trade holds on the mat. They exchange deep armdrags and reach a stalemate after each trying a quick pinfall. McFly and Lover promptly tag in. </p><p> </p><p>

Lover points past McFly, looking for Jeremy Stone, but McFly shrugs that off, instead locking up and shifting position to get a suplex. He moves to cover early, but Lover rolls clear, and the pair trade forearms for a while.</p><p> </p><p>

Art Reed tags in blind and springs to the top rope in one vertical leap before launching forward, taking Lover over with a huracanrana. </p><p> </p><p>

With the advantage on his side, Jeremy holds out his hand and Reed lets the man who trained him in. Lover and Stone stand off.</p><p> </p><p>

They exchange wristlocks. Lover armdrags Stone and falls into a crouch, beckoning Jeremy in. Lover cranks on a headlock before knocking Stone down with a shoulder block. </p><p> </p><p>

Picking himself up, Jeremy ducks a spinwheel kick and chops Lover down. </p><p> </p><p>

He calls for the Stone Hold – to a warm reception from the Quebecois crowd, happy to see Jeremy starting to warm to crowds again – but he's too close to the ropes and Matthew Keith catches him with a kick to the back of the head.</p><p> </p><p>

Stone tags back to McFly and turns to Matthew, hitting him with a big chop, then stomping through the ropes as Keith tries to hang on. Instead, the second generation star crashes to the outside.</p><p> </p><p>

DuBois promptly hops down from the corner himself, leaning against the announce table.</p><p> </p><p>

Sean goes after Lover but this time he's ready. He chops out, grabs a hold, and hits a DDT, immediately covering, but Art Reed is there to break it up. Lover unloads with punches, and McFly comes to Art's aid – but Lover ducks them both, hits the ropes, and explodes into a flying double clothesline to scatter them like ninepins.</p><p> </p><p>

Marc DuBois slips under the ropes as Reed and McFly pick themselves up. He slams into Reed from behind, sending him crashing into McFly.</p><p> </p><p>

As Lover tags in Keith, DuBois rolls clear again.</p><p> </p><p>

Matt dropkicks McFly in the neck for two, then slams him and follows up with a legdrop – cover- ONE, TWO, NO!</p><p> </p><p>

Keith and Lover double-team Sean for a while, but the veteran has ring sense to spare, and manages to twist during a uranage attempt by Keith, flinging out an arm wide, and Jeremy Stone meets his hand. </p><p> </p><p>

In he comes and Lover eats a lariat. Keith ducks the next, boots Jeremy in the gut, grabs his trunks, sets for the sitout piledriver, but Stone turns it into a backdrop!</p><p> </p><p>

Up to the second rope – rare for Jeremy – and off with a flying shoulderblock to take Keith down again as Lover rolls out of the ring. </p><p> </p><p>

Art calls for the tag, and Stone brings him in. The former stablemates trade chops – then Keith ducks one, Reed and superkicks him. He follows that with a brainbuster but McFly breaks the pin. </p><p> </p><p>

McFly gives Lover a Delorean Driver for two.</p><p> </p><p>

Out of nowhere, DuBois reappears to dropkick McFly while Keith knocks Stone off the apron.</p><p> </p><p>

That leads to a brawl on the outside, with DuBois again staying clear. After a while, Lover rolls back into the ring. He heads for the far side, looking to build up momentum for a huge dive – but McFly's in there, and he cuts him off with a dropkick! Cover by McFly – ONE, TWO – Lover kicks out. </p><p> </p><p>

Out of almost nowhere, Lover gives McFly the Lover Stunner but this time Stone breaks the count. Jeremy takes Lover down with a dragonscrew leg whip. </p><p> </p><p>

On the outside, Art sends Matt into the steel steps, climbs over him, and comes down on Lover with a senton splash. Once again there's a cover, but DuBois yanks Eugene Williams out of the ring. Recovering, Matt drops Art and Jeremy with a reverse STO/DDT combo. McFly promptly breaks up the pin on Art, looks for the Delorean Driver, and instead gets a faceful of the Green Mist.</p><p> </p><p>

Matt looks to capitalise, but as he reaches to hook the leg, he bursts out coughing, convulsing, and his own body betrays him, jerking clear of the cover before the count can even reach two.</p><p> </p><p>

Reed promptly grabs him, and applies the Dread Lock. Lover looks to intercept, and Jeremy Stone cuts him off, dumps him with a powerbomb, and locks in the Stone Hold. </p><p> </p><p>

DuBois is back in again, hitting a running bulldog to bring both submission artists crashing face-first to the mat. He promptly ducks a kick from McFly, grabs Keith as he's still bent double coughing, and throws his teammate into McFly, sending them both tumbling to the floor.</p><p> </p><p>

Reed has just about recovered, and he comes face to face with Champagne Lover. Lover is ready, nailing Reed with the Champagne Sunrise, but then he falls – nailed in the back of the head by DuBois, who then punches Stone as he picks himself up and covers him for the pin.</p><p> </p><p>

Out of the referee's sight, the camera zooms in on DuBois' punching hand... and the brass knucks adorning it. It's no wonder Stone doesn't kick out.</p><p>

<p>I'm not so sure. I'm surprised, maybe, that it happened this early, but Keith was smoking the cigarette. Jumping in the tanning bed. Eventually the cancer was going to hit.</p><p> </p><p>

Now when he explodes in a rainbow of mist? I'm marking out.</p><p> </p><p>

~~</p><p> </p><p>

I'm sure I've asked this before, but why does it seem like half the time in tag/six-man matches there aren't tags to change legal men?</p>

Jason Azaria – Sara Silver – Autumn Gleeson

  • As the show began, GenOme handily defeated Balcony Express, though the belts weren't on the line. (Rating: B)
  • The Texas Outlaws showed their own fire, felling the Fly Boys next, RDJ pinning Jimmy P with the Leaping Lariat. (Rating: B-)
  • Aaron Andrews cut a scorching promo against Joey Minnesota in advance of their match this Sunday.
  • Team VIPER defeated Elimination Protocol, Miyazaki forcing Kirk Jameson to submit, though the Protocol wrestled well and bravely. (Rating: B)
  • Koshiro Ino then took on and defeated Nathan Priest in a surprisingly entertaining match. Despite little featuring, Priest has built his following in Canada even since coming to TCW. (Rating: B)
  • During Team KOBRA's show of respect, Miyazaki was attacked by Acid, Freddy Huggins, and UK Dragon. Hidekazu and Thunder Snake showed unusual unity in helping to drive them off.
  • The British Lions took on Darkwave members Ian Harris and Zimmy, O'Curle forcing Harris to submit after a very close match. (Rating: B
  • The video featuring two unknown females commenting on the looks of the TCW female wrestlers aired again – focusing this time on Kate Dangerous and Melody.
  • The Kreed took on M.A.D., working desperately to avoid the power of Khoklov, finally isolating American Buffalo to allow Art Reed to force a submission. (Rating: b)
  • In the main event, Golden Law faced off with Jack Marlowe and Pistol Pete Hall. The battle rapidly grew out of hand, ending in a double DQ. (Rating: B+

It depends on their current percentages, I guess - but in a game where my objective was 'push Rick Law' (I'll grant you he's not quite as good as Matt), I could only get him to about 85% in a year and a half that included a world title reign.</p><p> </p><p> Having said that, Art is apparently a wrestling god in the Dangerousverse, so why the heck not? xD</p>
