Monday 1st May 2009

I find myself flying out a day ahead of schedule – more like 12 hours, to be fair. I'm doing this, essentially, to soothe an ego. Which makes it sound like I think his complaint is unfair – not something I could agree with, frankly.

Jack Bruce has had the short end of the stick since coming to TCW. It's an awkward situation; he was immediately moved into a feud we really had to give him, but while the promos were good if unspectacular, what went down between the ropes seldom worked the way it should. Tornado having established himself as championship-level just before this, the knock is always going to go on Jack Bruce.

One of the reasons he's been paired with Sammy Bach, in fact, is to let Sammy carry the work in the ring a bit more while Jack handles the microphone. The goal is to eventually come out with two men who are better for us than either man is currently.

Bruce feels, though, like he's been jobbed out a bit – like he's being punished, by Tommy through me, for having achieved success in the SWF – being someone we can't take credit for making a top guy, unlike Remo (who of course never made it to the top there).

I can say I never received any instruction he was to be stepped on; we just haven't been able to justify making him a top guy with our current main event.

But he feels neglected. And, as we still have plenty we want him to do, that could cause trouble.

Shadows of the past: Jack Bruce at the forefront of Painful Procedure circa 2003

Tuesday 2nd May 2009

I think Jack's happy for now. The continued thing with Painful Procedure was worrying him, sure, but I was able to explain why it's still going.

We went over the current angle – one which could well not pay all the way off until next February's War to Settle the Score, although it'll veer around the place during that time. Talked about his new allies. In the end I asked Wolf for a loan of his DVD player – I'd brought some of the clip DVDs from developmental along, and showing Jack who he was likely to be working with – well, some of them – helped.

He's still not happy about the match we have scheduled for Saturday, where Canadian Elemental gets a leg up on him, but I think he can see why it's there. And the fact he'll have a week off from house shows, mostly down in Cali working on a new sound with our in-house composers, seems to have him enthusiastic about it.

Career Reinvention: JB and friends, fall 2009

But then, isn't that always the way? Show someone the company's throwing more money at them and, lo and behold, they can feel like they're getting some support.

Sunday 8th May 2009

The flight I'm taking is the same as the first leg for a lot of the wrestlers pulling house shows this week, so I get to hear a lot of the chatter first-hand. Surprisingly useful, that...

Eddie Peak and Remo Richardson are seated together, half arguing football, half talking about spots they want to use at the next PPV – laying out what they want to be a surprise, what needs establishing, all that jazz. It's one of the reasons I don't mind Eddie's ribs – when it comes to matches, he learned to be a professional from Eric Tyler. I know I'll get a list, before long, of things Eddie and Remo would like to do this month to play off in their match. I won't be able to get to all of it, probably, but I'll get some done.

Across the aisle, Aaron Andrews, Joey Minnesota, and Wolf Hawkins are laughing with Edd Strone. Those four make a natural fit offscreen in a way we could never make work on the show; Aaron and Wolf channel a completely different side of themselves for their gimmicks. But the four of them are joking about a bunch of things, some of which will probably get turned into more of the Edd Stone Ambush Hour as the month goes on.

Art Reed and Matthew Keith have their little hand-held video games out, chasing each other around a virtual racetrack and occasionally laughing about mushrooms and banana skins. Not sure what's going on there, but it keeps them happy. Eric Tyler and Jeremy Stone both have a younger wrestler near them they can anecdote about wrestling to – living the life, as Mike Nero calls it.

And I can just about hear my daughter and JeriLynn debating who “gets to be” the heel when they inevitably collide. It's interesting, listening to those two... I can hear RDJ laughing already. “No difficulty keeping those gimmicks separate,” he said when we found out Jennifer had signed JeriLynn, and he wasn't wrong. Naturally different people, but they seem to get on well – which is good; sooner or later there'll be more tag matches in the womens division, and that'll lead to a lot of combinations being tested. Any that stand out can only do better as a result...

Xander Blake!

Uh... I mean. Zimmy Bumfhole. Heck of a signing.

(In case that makes no sense, SWF let Zimmy's contract expire in my personal TCW game, I renamed him the above)

I really liked that segment, much like I enjoy most of the 'backstage', anecdotal type pieces you do. It's always fun trying to imagine what's going on in the picture arrays you post (like a younger Bruce fronting the original PP)

You would rebrand the son of Tito Bumfhole? ;)

The SWF have been making a few questionable releases lately. Zimmy's well within their overness limits as a Cult company - I consider what I'm paying him cheap - and he's on the short list of people I have to consider if I see their contracts come up. As it happens, around the time I started trying to work out how to resuscitate Jack's image, they cut him loose, and that and something on YouTube all came together at once.

And my long-term plans changed, just like that...

I'm glad people enjoy the 'photos' in the book. As will be incredibly obvious by now, one of the things I love doing with the C-Verse is trying to flesh it out, taking whathever works from a whole collection of other diaries, the historicals and my own imagination to try to make it feel like a real world full of characters, not batches of ones and zeroes. That's what most of the photos are for; easter eggs, bits of history, little references to prior games (eg, Karen Killer in the initial creative team photo as she used to book NYCW).

Occasionally, though, it's just tempting to use the fact the 'book' is written after the fact to seed some ideas coming down the pipe - as here - which the fans in the C-Verse won't know but which I think might interest the readers.

Mostly it was because I felt that if I'd brought him in under his real name, he'd, in-universe, still be very strongly associated as a 'SWF guy', what with him and Randy (along with DuBois) being the cream of the crop for their famous 05 graduating class.

Once I got into that kind of mindset, I would have found it really hard not to make him either a heel, or a very specific face gimmick ("I came here because I cared about wrestling more than the 'entertainment' ") if he'd still been referred to as Zimmy. I guess it made sense in my head, haha.

This week's Total Wrestling looks set to be fast-paced from beginning to end. We begin with Acid and Thunder Snake, School of Tradition and Team KOBRA, and the question asked about this match, as you all know, must be: How will the outcome of this contest affect the All-Action contendership rankings?

The freshly named GenOme get their next chance to shine immediately afterward. Their opponents, Natural Talent, are two other young men with substantial talent - but, as yet, with little to show for it. It does seem as if Phil Vibert is pulling strings to get Frankie Perez his winner's purse. But then, he's also pushing for them to face Art Reed & Greg Keith, and that's no easy contest.

Eric Tyler has promised to introduce the School of Tradition's newest member, Frankie Dee, "to a wider audience than just Rick Law fans." He says he anticipates making an open challenge to the locker room on Dee's behalf. Who will Dee face, and can the self-styled 'White Angel' rise to the occasion?

Peter Hopper of the Easy Riders has a tall challenge ahead of him; Mayhem Midden has set a match between Hopper and Eddie Peak. We were unable to confirm the reasons behind this, but it seems that Midden returned to his bike Saturday night to find the paintwork scratched and the Easy Riders absent.

Art Reed has had an astonishing couple of months relative to his prior form; as one-half of the interim tag champions, in particular; now, however, he faces a potentially insurmountable challenge - but if Reed can beat Remo Richardson, the sky will be the limit.

Tag team action to follow, and intergender at that - on one side, Jeremy Stone and Gorgon. On the other, World Heavyweight Champion Johnny Bloodstone and JeriLynn Stone. Can Bloodstone achieve a clear step forward in his issues with his former mentor?

Last Sunday we saw the Rising Stars face off with two of Generation Omega. Mayhem Midden, theorizing that Gen Omega's advantage was the issues between the Stars, has made a singles match to test that theory; Joey Minnesota against Wolf Hawkins, in your Tuesday main event...

Prediction Key:

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Thunder Snake w/ Baroness Emily

GenOme (Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez) w/ Phil Vibert vs. Natural Talent

Frankie Dee w/ Laura Huggins vs. ????

Eddie Peak vs. Peter Hopper w/ Carl Batch

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Jeremy Stone & Gorgon vs. Johnny Bloodstone & JeriLynn Stone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Joey Minnesota vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat...

And things are starting to slow down in diary production here. Show will probably be up Sunday. After that, you'll get Badge of Honor, and you may get Saturday Night Showcase before Christmas, depending - but you won't get anything beyond that until at least the 27th.

Just as a warning, like.

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Thunder Snake w/ Baroness Emily

I would like to pick Acid here but Snake has more going on.

GenOme (Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez) w/ Phil Vibert vs. Natural Talent

Natural Talent are jobbers until they manage to prove otherwise and it won´t happen here

Frankie Dee w/ Laura Huggins vs. ????

Mystery man takse another win

Eddie Peak vs. Peter Hopper w/ Carl Batch

Hopper is tag guy so he can lose to someone like Peak without losing any momentum

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Reed is getting better thanks to his tag matches but Remo is too big name for him still

Jeremy Stone & Gorgon vs. Johnny Bloodstone & JeriLynn Stone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Not sure if JeriLynn has what it takes when she is against Gordon but I doubt it.

Joey Minnesota vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

Hawkins is bigger name at this point.

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Thunder Snake w/ Baroness Emily

Thunder Snake is currently lowest on KOBRA's totem pole. If this is indeed going to be stable wars, SoT have to win in some places. Acid is credible enough to do so.

GenOme (Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez) w/ Phil Vibert vs. Natural Talent

Even with speed-bumps, Gen Omega are being pushed, particularly this pairing as a tag team. Natural Talent need to prove that they no longer suck (although granted PP can take some of the rap for thaT) before getting wins.

Frankie Dee w/ Laura Huggins vs. ????

It'll definitely heat things up if this is say... Kosh.

Eddie Peak vs. Peter Hopper w/ Carl Batch

AHAHAHAHA hahahaha hahah... ha.

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

This is a bridge too far for Art.

Jeremy Stone & Gorgon vs. Johnny Bloodstone & JeriLynn Stone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Draw. Gorgon is off the back of a dominant win. However, Bloodstone is champ, and I don't know if I can see JeriLynn debuting with a loss. To look a credible number one contender, I don't feel Jezza should drop one here.

Joey Minnesota vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

Not in THIS canon, Joey.

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Thunder Snake w/ Baroness Emily

I really thought Thunder Snake was the no. 2 guy behind Ino, but then Miyazaki goes and wins the title. Still, he's part of a credible stable. This is probably mostly a way to reunite Acid and Hell Monkey, who definitely have a history of making great matches.

GenOme (Davis Wayne Newton & Frankie Perez) w/ Phil Vibert vs. Natural Talent

Squash.

Frankie Dee w/ Laura Huggins vs. ????

I was wrong about Marc Speed, but I'll try it again: Frankie Dee isn't a real guy.

Eddie Peak vs. Peter Hopper w/ Carl Batch

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

If Reed wins a match like this, it'll be a sign that his singles push is moving. I think he's got a fair way to go with the Keith storyline, though. Hopper is never getting a singles push.

Jeremy Stone & Gorgon vs. Johnny Bloodstone & JeriLynn Stone w/ Blonde Bombshell

Keeps Gorgon looking strong, keeps this rivalry moving even though Johnny won the big match (basically) fair and square.

Joey Minnesota vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

Shenanigans are possible... Gen Omega has their eye on Joey, I know that much. But if he does turn eventually, I think it's more likely in a match that involves Andrews.

Acid w/ Laura Huggins vs. Thunder Snake w/ Baroness Emily

The Canadian Acid squares off with New York's masked warrior. It looks, on paper, like a hell of a fast match, probably a hell of a match period, and that's how it turns out. Azaria seems grateful that these two are finally receiving a match where he can dwell on the Japanese style of both men's work, highlighting the rationale for Snake's introduction to Team KOBRA and Acid's fulfilling of the School of Tradition's worldwide tag with gusto.

This is speed, this is precision, this is lethal force in every slam, every kick, every lariat, every chop and every airborne moment. Thunder Snake fights a more stationary game, choosing to play the grounded half of this equation, harried by Acid's imitation of Snake's own flying style, but his lightning counters into slams, his lariats out of nowhere, keep him in the ascendant for a good while.

Unfortunately, as he's really starting to get rolling, Acid sidesteps the Snake Lash and abruptly superkicks Ray Johnson, jarring his jaw and putting the ref out of action. Johnson had no chance to see it coming.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JDMorgan.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JoelBryant.jpg

Global Tradition slide into the ring, then, and grab Thunder Snake by either arm.

Acid's demeanour entirely switches in an instant. Slithering around the ring into position, his body language changes. Since coming to TCW, Acid's chief means of standing out has been an almost robotic duplication of the body language of whoever he's fighting.

Abruptly, however, he's no longer Thunder Snake. Agile, smooth, his body language is suddenly smug, self-satisfied, and vicious. It takes a moment for anyone to place, but after a while, the savvier of the crowd start to peg it, and to understand why it took so long to recognise; Acid is suddenly a shorter, stockier, quicker Tommy Cornell.

The beatdown begins, and it's epic in scope. Despite this, Baroness Emily stands by the ring, watching, bokken at her waist.

As Johnson begins to revive, the Canadian masked man climbs back to the top rope and sails off, hitting the Acid Rain Bomb to pick up the pinfall.

Acid defeated Thunder Snake

Rating: B

Battle Without Honor or Humanity starts to play, and the remainder of Team KOBRA make their way to the ring, many of them looking grim as they do so.

Thunder Snake, too, doesn't look at all happy as they surround him; however, as Baroness Emily takes aim with the bokken, he simply squares his shoulders – and as the bokken comes down, he takes his punishment stonefaced.

GenOme w/ Phil Vibert vs. Natural Talent

Natural Talent come out for this quietly, subdued, but they speak thoughtfully throughout GenOme's entrance – and their gestures indicate that they're discussing the more dangerous maneuvers in GenOme's arsenal, offering tips, suggestions on things to watch for.

Natural Talent do not intend to be easy prey. Vibert sees their gestures and smirks, a little patronising.

The bell rings, and Natural #2 crashes into Davis Wayne Newton. He's throwing fists, elbows, knees, a couple of headbutts, and he staggers Newton with them before stepping back and throwing a snap suplex. A floatover goes into a pin straight away, but he keeps his eye on Perez, and Newton kicks out.

“What was he staring at Perez for?” Azaria asks, and we get our answer not two minutes later; #2 has tagged out, and #1 continues to take it to Newton. This time, a high-speed neckbreaker puts Davis back on the map, and as he covers, he once again looks at Perez – who flips forward over the ropes to drop a leg and break up the pin.

It's a move Newton and Perez have used every couple of matches, it seems like, and no one's really registered it – until now; #1 breaks the pin voluntarily, and Perez' leg crashes down across DWN.

Natural Talent is watching, is the clear message.

It's a good start, but Frankie stays in the ring. A charging lariat drops #1 before he can make it to the corner, and as #2 comes in Perez is ready with a backdrop driver for him. Newton recovers and comes to the assault; somewhat surprisingly, Frankie immediately halts his assault rather than continue it, letting Davis show his stuff.

With that, GenOme take over – and they take over very thoroughly. It's brutal, and while the Talent keep their end up, throwing dropkicks and fighting back where they can, GenOme don't give them a chance to keep it coming. In the end, Frankie forces a submission via the P-Clutch on #2.

A new track to TCW fans hits, heralding the second appearance of Frankie Dee's Total career. On one side of him walks Eric Tyler, on the other, Laura Huggins. They make their way to the ring, Huggins collecting a microphone as she does so – which she swiftly passes across to Eric Tyler.

“The School of Tradition,” Tyler begins, “is my gift to professional wrestling. A place where seasoned veterans, men of respect, men of talent, men of honor, can come together, to understand this sport, to speak together, and, just as importantly, to teach. What the hell kind of School can't teach people, after all?

“I've given up on Deeley.” Huggins shoots him a glare. “Sorry, Laura, but it's true. Your boyfriend's a hell of a fighter but I can't say he understands how to be a pro wrestler. That takes respect, understanding, the right spirit.” He shakes his head. “You want to nurture him, be my guest. If you can make a real wrestler outta him you'll prove why the School wants you.

“But that doesn't mean I've given up on my projects. Walter and Merle, they've joined the ranks of the best in the world – under my tutelage. Freddy Huggins, Acid, they're coming along great. And Deeley has all the tools in the world, even if he hasn't got the mind for it.

“But this man, here...” He claps Frankie on the shoulder. “The White Angel, Frankie Dee. Merging the Canadian tradition of technical prowess with an incredible understanding of martial arts, Frankie has a lot of the tools. He's now putting them together, under my guidance, under Joel's, under JD's, to become one of the best. And tonight-”

Breakin' the Law abruptly cuts in, and Tommy Cornell's face appears on the big screen. Crowd response is surprised, but fairly enthusiastic; Cornell has had at least one chance to reveal he hadn't changed his spots and sailed past it. The fans are starting, not to believe, but at least to hope.

“Blah, blah, blah, blah,” Cornell says. “Eric, you never stop blowing smoke, do you? You blew enough up my arse to get me to hire you. You're trying to blow enough up the audience's collective arse...” He pauses. “OK, bad image... but you want 'em to believe your way is the only way.

“Well this is TCW, Eric, and it's my way or get the hell off the highway before I run you over.”

Eric Tyler actually laughs at that. “And I see that's been going well with your young pup,” he says. “Man who shows more respect for the business than you do, might I add.”

Tommy frowns. “Yeah, well, I'm getting ready to run them over, too. But since you mention it, strikes me you've got a young punk with a hell of an ego stood there in the ring, and I just happen to have some frustrations built up on account of young punks with too much ego.

“And it occurs to me that I run things around here. Kid? You got a match. If you run away from it, I'm going to be very pissed.”

Frankie Dee w/ Laura Huggins vs. Tommy Cornell

The crowd seem psyched for Cornell's arrival in the ring, though Dangerous and Azaria remain dubious about his motivation for doing so on commentary.

Nevertheless...

Cornell's body language isn't what he'd been sporting all last month. It isn't what he'd had for years, with the Syndicate and before. He seems almost... joyful, but without the usual vicious satisfaction, as he rolls over Dee, letting the martial artist try a few things before shutting him back down again.

He runs riot, and the match sees all his most famous moves; the two-handed Blade Chop, the Three Inch Shrink, the Rough Ride and the Guilt Trip.

And the crowd seem to love it. Cornell rocks back on his knees after the pinfall, looking out at the crowd, hands on his thighs, and he beams, happy and optimistic.

Eddie Peak vs. Peter Hopper w/ Carl Batch

Peter Hopper marches to the ring with a surly expression on his face – but it's a march, nonetheless; you wouldn't necessarily call him confident, but he's certainly unfazed by Peak's reputation and power.

Eddie and Hopper... well, Peter's not a match for the Bloody-Handed God, but by any standards he's a trier, a stalwart, determined and proud wrestler. He keeps getting up, keeps hitting back, and after a while Peak abruptly stops attacking, standing there and letting Hopper assault him, pound away...

Eddie Peak lets Hopper bloody him before coming back to life, starting to shut things down.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Remo.jpg

And then Peak goes flying backward. Remo Richardson somehow manages to spear him down despite his proximity to Hopper.

He picks up Peak's form even as Sam Sparrow calls the DQ, and brings him down with the Lumbar Puncture before rolling out of the ring.

Around a small table, Rick Law, Rocky Golden and Chris Rockwell are seated. On the table, three healthy meals... and about eight beer bottles, most of them clearly empty. Silence reigns as the camera dwells on them.

After a long moment, Rockwell sits back. “I gotta tell you, Rock, I don't know what to suggest. It's nothing I've ever had to deal with.”

Yeah,” Golden sighs, taking another slug from his bottle. “Man, I just...”

“How serious about her are you?” Law asks, soft-spoken as he does so. He takes a bite of his food. An observant fan might notice Law doesn't appear to have a beer in front of him.

Golden blinks. “What?”

“How serious about her are you?” Law asks again. “Far as I can see, that's the question she's asking you. So it's the important one.”

“Well, I...” Rocky trails off. “I... Hell.” He turns to Rockwell. “Would you do it?”

“The way I am at the moment?” Rockwell snorts. “C'mon, Rock, I've gotta get my head screwed on to where I can keep my temper in a match I don't have anything riding on. Something like that? I'd lose it for good.” He laughs half-heartedly. “Hey, at least you don't got that problem, right?”

“I guess.”

“Still,” Rick muses. “You asked the right man.” He takes another bite as the others turn to regard him, and he looks up at them with that trademark open, honest face. “Oh, come on, guys,” he says. “I'm talking to Chris Rockwell. The man who asked everyone to think about whether they could measure up to him. Who challenged everyone to find their measure.

“All Stephanie's asking is how big a man you're willing to be.” A half-smile. “If you know what I mean.”

Art Reed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Remo Richardson w/ Phil Vibert

Power versus athleticism. Strikes versus submission. Boiled down like that, it's one of the most basic and traditional of matchups. But boil these two down like that, and you miss so much.

The bell rings, and Remo explodes forward; Reed, on the other hand, just jumps, tagging the big man with a dropkick as it starts. The pace starts fast and everyone knows it's not going to let up.

Reed's biggest moment in the match, incidentally, involves that huge spear of Remo's; he doesn't just vault it, he twists in midair and hooks his arms in, locking in a sleeper even as the Generation Omega man flies forward.

Richardson manages to break the hold, however, reaching up and prizing Art's arms apart with sheer strength before using that grip to toss his opponent halfway across the ring. Art recovers fast, going for a drop toe hold, but Remo manages to stay upright despite the move. He grabs Art around the throat, hoisting him upright and into the air effortlessly, and executes a spinning Rydeen bomb – one which sees Art collide with Eugene Williams as he spins.

Vibert looks delighted, and he seems to be calling out to Remo to make an example of him. Remo replies with one syllable only, however, turning to face the entrance as he does so. “Peak.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/GregGauge-1.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MatthewKeith.jpg

Art does look to be in trouble, though, and the crowd roar with approval as the Keith brothers both jump the rail from the crowd, sliding into the ring – effortlessly in Greg's case, but Matt is clearly still feeling the effects of the injury to his leg, limping and lagging behind.

They go after Remo, who shoves them both away and sets up a Destroyer for Reed. Greg tackles him again and gets a boot; the two twins split instinctively, Matt in Remo's line of sight, Greg behind him.

Replays will show that they intended a high-low combo of strikes to take Remo off his feet, but somehow, Matt aims too high on a springboard discus punch. He catches Art in the head, not Remo, and the chop block alone isn't enough to take the powerhouse down. Art goes crashing to the mat with the Destroyer and Remo hurls Greg from the ring, Matt bailing under his own steam, before he makes the cover.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JeriLynnStone.jpg

“Hey, uh, dad?”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JeremyStone.jpg

Jeremy Stone turns to face his daughter, who seems to be somewhere between nervous and fighting not to laugh. “I know you haven't got much reason to trust me right now, but you ought to see this.

“I think something's wrong with Uncle Edd.”

“Something's always wrong with your Uncle Edd,” Jeremy says.

JeriLynn falls silent for a moment. “Well... OK,” Jeremy offers at last, sighing. “Show me.”

JeriLynn leads her father through the winding corridors of the locker rooms and opens the door to one in particular.

The camera follows Jeremy in, seeing, over his shoulder, a life-size cardboard cut-out of Dan Stone Senior, back when he was still wrestling. It is, of course, printed in sepia. Sticky notes adorn it, scribbled handwriting all over them. The camera moves past to see another cut-out, this of Jeremy Stone himself. The camera zooms in on one of those stickys: 'Pullable nipples.'

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddStone_alt6.jpg

As the view starts to pan, we hear Edd Stone's voice begin to speak, doing the best imitation of Movie Trailer Guy he can. “Throughout history, the name Stone has signified excellence and ability in the art of submission.” The camera pans on, going past equally decorated cut-outs of Dan Junior, Duane, and Victoria.

“There is no one more capable than a Stone when it comes to making others give up. But submission has a dark side, and today, finally, there comes a Stone who can understand and master that side. Ladies and gentlemen,”

“He's been doing this over and over for the last five hours,” JeriLynn informs her father. Edd continues, seemingly oblivious, “I give you a Stone who understands dominance, the next International Champion,” and the camera finally reaches him in its slow pan. “EDD STONE!”

Edd is wearing a Tarzan outfit. Also, and entirely inexplicably, he has also decorated himself with his post-its. He looks up, beats his chest, and unleashes a Tarzan yell, before running off abruptly. The camera dips down to catch one of the sticky notes as it flutters to the ground. “Best kick in the business, and unbreakable hamstrings.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JohnnyBloodstone_alt2.jpg

Jeremy Stone sighs and closes his eyes. JeriLynn tiptoes away. Equally quietly, Johnny Bloodstone replaces her, holding a steel chair. As Jeremy opens his eyes again, exhaling wearily, the chair comes down on his head loudly. Officials run in as Total Wrestling goes to commercial.

Jeremy Stone & Gorgon vs. Johnny Bloodstone & JeriLynn Stone w/ Blonde Bombshell

It's a good, solid match early on, with tempers running high and both sides throwing some nasty stuff at the other.

Gorgon gets to add another illustrious name to the list of victims of the Hydra Bomb as Johnny Bloodstone finds himself crashing to the mat.

Before she can cover, however, JeriLynn jumps her from behind with forearms; Gorgon promptly wheels, hitting the spinning backfist as she does so.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/KateDangerous.jpg

Seconds later, Kate Dangerous is in seconds later, also trying to take Gorgon down; she receives a second Hydra Bomb for her troubles. Gorgon stops to climb the top rope and glower at the crowd from her higher position; something like seven seconds after he went down, Johnny Bloodstone makes it back to his feet -

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddStone_alt6.jpg

PARTY'S OVER ON THE CHAMPION! Bloodstone crashes back to the canvas and Jeremy Stone scrambles in to apply the Stone Hold, capitalising.

Aaron Andrews and Sean Deeley hit the ring simultaneously. Andrews blocks Edd's Edd-Renaline Shot, scooping him up onto his shoulders, and hits the Game Breaker, while Deeley rains chop after chop down on Jeremy Stone until he breaks the hold to go after him.

Disgusted, Eugene Williams throws the match out.

Joey Minnesota vs. Wolf Hawkins w/ Phil Vibert

Sometimes you realise you're watching something special right from the start. This is one of those matches; Joey slams into Wolf a hair before the bell rings with a vicious uppercut, driving him a few steps back. A short-arm clothesline immediately follows, with Minnesota dragging Hawkins back to his feet and whipping him to the corner.

Minnesota strides to the far corner, turns, and charges, going for a huge boot, but Hawkins has enough wherewithal to duck it. Minnesota snags himself, straddling the top rope, and Hawkins immediately pops up and dropkicks him, sending him tumbling down to the floor.

Joey's given a few seconds to recover, then Wolf hits the far ropes and rebounds, charging toward Joey and going sailing out of the ring to drive the Rising Star against the guardrail with a suicide dive. Backing up and giving it another charge, however, Wolf comes a cropper; Joey has, it appears on replay, scooped up a steel chair from behind a standing fan and hurled it forward; Wolf crashes head-first into it, falling to the floor, and Joey chucks him back in the ring, scrambling after him to go for the pinfall.

Wolf kicks out, though, and while Phil Vibert watches intently, he ducks a swing, drives a knee into Joey's gut, and grabs his tights as he doubles over and gets the piledriver. That gets two, with Joey managing to reach the ropes. As Wolf moves away, Joey sweeps his legs out from under him, hits the ropes, and delivers a crisp legdrop, before scooping him up.

Snap suplex; stalling vertical suplex, and Joey picks the Generation Omega man up again, whipping him to the corner. He hoists him onto the top turnbuckle and climbs up after him, obviously looking for a superplex, but he doesn't get it; Wolf is waiting with a forearm, then another, and he pulls Joey up onto his level, standing up – locks arms -

SPANISH FLY!

Both men lie there for a long moment before Hawkins, finally, stirs, crawling to the cover. Ray Johnson scrambles into position but, by a whisker, Minnesota's shoulder comes up to break the pinfall.

Wolf lifts clear, shaking his head, and Joey rolls him into a shock cradle. The Generation Omega man powers out immediately, rolling to his feet some way away. Joey rises, too, just as slowly.

Hawkins nods grudging respect, and Joey Minnesota grins and charges again. Wolf ducks the lariat, taking him down with a neckbreaker. He goes for the Last Chancery – Joey, however, manages to throw him off at the last second.

The pace set, the two men don't let it stop. Gradually, a pattern emerges; Joey is throwing harder shots, staying more intense, while Hawkins is enduring, countering, and occasionally working to pull off something really impressive. Neither man is willing to stay down, however, no matter what they be hit with.

Minnesota finally drives Hawkins back into the corner. This time, he doesn't give him space to move; instead, he stays on him, hanging onto the rope with one arm and driving elbows repeatedly into Hawkins' head.

This goes on for about ten seconds – about five impacts – before Wolf ducks under one of them. Joey drives himself into the turnbuckle, Wolf wheels, he goes for the Full Moon Rising – Joey has one hand raised, catching much of the impact.

Hawkins steps in, grabs his head, and delivers a Minnesota Salute. Joey, staggered, whiplashes back into the turnbuckle, and Wolf delivers a second Full Moon Rising, covering to finally – finally – secure a hard-fought pin.

You voted against Thunder Monkey, yet for GenOhm. Aka Generation Electricity.

._.

I did... and just look who had a perfect predicteration this time around?

I better get some of that champagne the Minnesota Wolves earned.

Loved Edd's voiceover work. I honestly thought the post-it was going to be 'you can try to powerbomb him but...'.

Law, Rockwell and Golden are a trio that shouldn't work but truly does.

PS: Frankie Dee... welcome to TCW.

I'm not sure where Minnesota stands in the 08 data cause I never played it, but by 10 he's talent, if horrible to deal with backstage. Not the most surprising A* I've seen here, not be a way, but still, very nice.

I think at this stage I might as well put 'I love Edd' in my signature, because he's just... wow. Amazing.

“Well this is TCW, Eric, and it's my way or get the hell off the highway before I run you over.”

Possibly one of my favourite lines ever.

In fairness, a chunk of that last Edd segment riffs off Self's work with Edd in his FCK diary from TEW08 - the cardboard cut-outs and Jeremy Stone's pullable nipples, to be specific, are gleefully borrowed from someone else's work. I really can't take credit.

At least he put them on the right cutout. It would have been weird if those had ended up on the wrong sibling.

And I can just HEAR this exchange in my head with perfect comedic timing...

"Something's wrong with Uncle Edd."

"Something's always wrong with your Uncle Edd."
