TCW: A Quiet Retirement

Recommended Posts

No, I meant short. It might not be short compared to other matches (like Rockwell/Stone after it, though...whatever), and I think you tend to only write longer if the match is amazing and/or it's the main event and/or there are a billion run-ins so it gets long anyway.

It might be me just noticing something that's happened a lot, perhaps.

Pretty much, in all honesty.

That was my favorite Edd skit yet, by far. Was this your best show ever? I think you've had a A* or two before.

And I'm not going to brag about calling the Fly Boys' upset...much... :D

It's the best show in this save, can't compare to 2008's run with any certainty.

Little moments like this are what makes this diary so great to read.

Heh heh heh...

One thing that, in my eyes, TCW will always try to do, is make sure even its jobbers are presented as wrestlers a cut above what you'll find elsewhere. Everyone gets the chance to look awesome and show some ring savvy, even if they're there to go down.

<em>Natural jobbers continue to well... job.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Chris Rockwell</strong> vs. Tyson Baine</p><p>

<em>This one is actually quite difficult pick as neither guy haven´t done as much as I would expect but Rockwell is the one who has had more tv time lately so I go with him.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Champagne Lover </strong>vs. Chance Fortune</p><p>

<em>Lover just got a win over Sam Keith, Fortune got a win over... well to be honest I don´t remember if he had one.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs. <strong>Elite Express</strong></p><p>

<em>Elite Express is better of the two Express teams at least for now</em></p><p> </p><p>

Cherry Bomb & Jack Bruce vs. <strong>Kate Dangerous & Tommy Cornell</strong></p><p>

<em>This one is interesting as Bruce could get a big win here but Tommy just put Matt over so I say that he takes the win here.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch </strong>vs. The Machines</p><p>

<em>Both teams have been little bit lost in the shuffle despite their ongoing feud but Machines have more name value to me so I say that they can better affort the loss here</em></p><p> </p><p>

Kreed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. <strong>Stone Brothers</strong></p><p>

<em>Could go either way but Jeremy is still a title contender and that puts him above rest here.</em></p>

<p><strong>British Lions w/ Laura Huggins</strong> vs. Natural Talent</p><p> </p><p>

<em>You know what Natural talent team right, they have alot of talent, alot of a talent for...jobbing!</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Chris Rockwell</strong> vs. Tyson Baine</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Rockwell's TCW career has kind of stalled at the Upper midcard level, but he's been getting more TV time of late, whilst Baine seems to be fading out of the picture and I get the feeling the former BLZ Bubb's contract may not get renewed once it's up, so better to go with the guy who has a more long term future with the promotion.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Champagne Lover</strong> vs. Chance Fortune</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Lover just got put over by the legendary Sam Keith, he isn't go to lose to No Chance Fortune.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs.<strong> Elite Express</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Midcard team over jobber team.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

Cherry Bomb & Jack Bruce vs. <strong>Kate Dangerous & Tommy Cornell</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Cornell just put over Matt Keith with the time limit draw, he's winning this one. </em></p><p> </p><p>

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. <strong>The Machines</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>As Zergon said both team's have kind of got lost in the shuffle recently, but the Easy Riders were in the title picture more recently, and win here for The Machines would be a solid launching pad to get them back into Tag Title contention. It's time they were 'relevant' again</em>. </p><p> </p><p>

Kreed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Stone Brothers</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Hard one to call, Kreed are the recent tag champs prior to Genome, but Jeremy Stone needs to be kept strong as a World Title challenger. I'm goign to be a total cop out here, and say that this one goes to a time limit draw.</em> <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

British Lions w/ Laura Huggins vs. Natural Talent

The Talent hit hard at the beginning. Against a seasoned team like the Lions the Talent do not have as many advantages as they would like; they do, however, have speed and enthusiasm, and their determination catches the Lions off guard. Early on, Natural #2 gets a high-velocity neckbreaker – called the 'Storm Damage' by Duane Fry – that puts Walter Morgan all the way down. It's only O'Curle's quick intervention that prevents the Talent from pulling off a true shock victory.

Later on, the Talent are still fighting but there's a real sense that they're starting to be rolled over. #2 once again manages a fightback, this time, clearly setting up for the Storm Damage. But, as many have noted – and as Alanis Springsteen notes here – the British Lions always have a counter for what beat them the first time, and in this case, O'Curle blocks the spin, counters to a suplex, and floats over to lock in the Celtic Wreath in a fluid motion. #2, ultimately, has to tap.

Laura Huggins joins her clients in the ring, following the match, and raises the microphone to her lips with a flourish. “So let me get this straight,” she says. “Your challengers for the Tag Team Championships... took two weeks to make up their minds whether they wanted the match or not.

“Is that what you want? The last year has seen the Tag Team Championships become something everyone cares about, something to be respected the way you respect any other title in this company... and my clients have been a key part of that. Next up, though, two guys who aren't even sure they want it?

“We've seen a war fought between two men over who had the right to carry that championship on his shoulder. And the Rising Stars... well, they dithered. They wondered.

“Sure, Mr Midden, you offered them the shot. I'm not sure I'd even say they don't deserve it. But what they won't do is the same thing that GenOme won't do. They won't care about the tag division.

“And there should be a team in there, at Excessive Force, who do.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/BlondeBombshell.jpg

Get The Party Started begins to play. Surprised, Laura's spiel cuts off, and she turns to the ramp – turns to see the Blonde Bombshell standing there, in the entranceway, a silhouette against the white spotlight.

The Bombshell simply stands there, making her statement without needing to talk.

Chris Rockwell vs. Tyson Baine

The recent records of these two men do not inspire much confidence in the fans, and while Rockwell, in particular, busts out everything he has to make the fans care, the reaction he receives isn't the greatest.

Baine has size, Baine has power, and Rockwell's strategy is essentually to work around that. It works... to a point.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TexasHangman.jpg

Near the end, however, a wild punch downs Ray Johnson – and Texas Pete arrives, hitting a flying shoulderblock on Baine that helps slow him, followed by an amazing feat – hoisting the big guy over his head for the Lone Star Drop.

Rockwell makes the pinfall, but he looks less than happy about doing so.

Champagne Lover vs. Chance Fortune

Chance Fortune hasn't had a whole lot of good luck lately, but his performance here could quite possibly be the beginning of a run – because the way the crowd responds is almost on the level of the reaction, this past Tuesday, for Lover's match with Sam Keith.

Fortune takes a lot more of a beating in this one than Sam did in his, but he also pulls out some surprises – when Lover tries the coast-to-coast dropkick, Fortune flips, hitting a crescent kick from the air as Lover's path takes the Mexican under him. That would likely have gotten three had Lover not hit the mat with a foot under the ropes.

His problem, however, is that Lover continues to innovate, and that Lover is a very flexible combatant; an attempted huracanrana is blocked, with Lover shoving Chance off his shoulders and almost immediately landing a Lover Stunner to pick up the win.

Out in the parking lot, Joey Minnesota is on his cellphone. “...yeah,” he says. “Taxi from Maryland Wood? Great... Destination? Oh... where's a good place to have fun round here? Yeah?” He grins. “Alright, then that's where we're headed. Thanks.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/AaronAndrews-1.jpg

He hangs up, glancing back over his shoulder to the arena, and smiles again. “Thought you weren't going to make it,” he says as Aaron Andrews arrives, himself clutching his gear in a sports bag, both men dressed for a night out. “C'mon – we've got the night off, so...”

“Yeah,” Aaron says slowly. “Look, Joey... I need to put our title shot back a month.” He raises his hands. “I'm not backing out, alright? I just need to put Edd behind me before there's any way for me to do this. He'll just screw up our shot otherwise.

“I know you want the title. Hell, I want the title, man – I'm just... I'm just going to have to get things in order first. I know this means you don't get the PPV win bonus, but-”

“No,” Joey frowns. “Don't worry about that. I'll make damn sure I pick that up this month.”

The taxi arrives, and Joey gets in. As Aaron starts toward it, however, Minnesota slams the door – and the car drives off.

Balcony Express w/ Randall Hopkirk vs. Elite Express

It's not the kind of match that Lions/Talent was, but it's good. The Balcony Express, for all that they have little in the win column, have gained fans for their determination, combination moves, and strength as much as they have for their association with Painful Procedure.

On the other hand, the Elite Express are widely acknowledged as one of the best tag teams in professional wrestling. Thomas and Johnson are quick, sharp, and more to the point, they understand wrestling – their knowledge of hold and counter is sharp and precise, incredibly efficient, and the contrast between the efficient heels and the effervescent rock stars goes down well.

In the end, however, Dean Waldorf is backdropped out of the ring, leaving Marv Statler a target. Thomas beats him down then tags out to Johnson, who comes off the top turnbuckle for the Precision Driller to pick up the pinfall.

“Hey, big guy,” Stephanie Wade grins as Rocky Golden walks into view. “You still on for tonight?”

“You know it,” he beams. “But, Steph – I just wanted to say, I'm sorry you didn't win Tuesday. I know you want the championship...”

His concern is waved off with a flap of the hand. “Yeah, don't worry about it.”

“No?” He actually grins. “Where's your killer instinct?”

“Hey, you saw what happened to Brazzle when I kicked her in the head,” Wade returns. “She wins the belt, I get contendership, title's as good as mine. She loses, well... I've seen Gorgon put Dangerous down twice. If I see Brazzle put down too... all of that's something I can use. And mark my words, if I have to, I'll kick my way away from the Hydra Bomb, then I'll kick her head off.

“Killer instinct don't mean head down and play stupid, big guy.” She grins. “Look, I wanna see what Dangerous and the Bomb are gonna do, but how about after that, we get outta here?”

“Sure,” Rocky nods. “I'll go score a table somewhere for dinner.”

Cherry Bomb & Jack Bruce vs. Kate Dangerous & Tommy Cornell

Cornell and Bruce start off and close, Bruce grabbing a cravate. Tommy promptly counters to an armlock. Bruce knees Cornell in the mid-section and whips him into Cornell's corner.

Cherry Bomb tags in, and Cornell tags in Dangerous to a reasonably strong fan reaction. Dangerous kicks Cherry Bomb and runs the ropes into an armdrag. The Bomb dumps her with a back suplex and kicks away at Dangerous’s back and head. Dangerous rolls clear, blocks a charge with an elbow, and snapmares Cherry Bomb into a headscissors.

Cornell tags in and twists on the Bomb’s arm. He sweeps her leg and looks for the Guilt Trip, but Jack breaks it up.

Dangerous tags back in and goes for a grapevine stretch. She then applies a Muta Lock. Cherry Bomb claws Dangerous’s face to escape and throws her to the outside.

A diving lariat wipes the former champion out. Bruce goes to help and Eugene Williams interferes; rolling out from under the ring, Harry Allen catches the Bomb with a Gunslinger's Revenge before Ian Harris, the Darkwave masked man, runs him off with a chair.

Back in, Dangerous sunset flips Cherry Bomb for two. Cornell and Bruce tag in. Jack nails Cornell with an uppercut. Cornell pops up and armdrags Bruce to the corner.

Cherry Bomb tags in and dropkicks Cornell to his corner. Dangerous makes a save and traps Cherry Bomb in the ropes. Bruce kicks Dangerous, so Dangerous drags the Bomb away and goes for the Half-Nelson Suplex; it's blocked, the Bomb fights out, spins, and goes for a Cherry Bomb. That's interrupted when Cornell makes the save.

It breaks down for a while, but it ends up with Cherry Bomb eating a Rough Ride, Kate Dangerous taking Bruce down with an assisted flying splash, and Cornell making the pin on the Bomb.

Easy Riders w/ Carl Batch vs. Machines

After the months of tensions this one starts with a four-man brawl which rapidly goes to the outside, the bell not even having rung, and the Riders beat the Machines all the way around the ring.

Anderson starts to mount a fightback against Fonda, but Batch provides an assist with a chair. Eugene Williams gets in his face about that, but without the bell, the match is not officially under way.

Hill ducks a shot from Hopper and nails Fonda from behind with a dropkick, then meets Hopper's next charge with a backdrop on the outside, and to try to keep the momentum Batch is just THROWING chairs at his opponents now.

Unfortunately for Batch, Anderson has rolled into the ring, and he has the chance to recover and then hit a charging baseball slide to sandwich Batch between his boots and the guardrail.

That gives Williams a chance to settle things down, get one competitor per side in the ring and one on the guardrail, and the bell finally rings. Anderson stares Fonda down, and Fonda charges again, catching Anderson up and rushing him into the turnbuckles; the Machine is clearly suffering from the impact, but he stays upright. Fonda whips him across the ring and charges again; Anderson, however, hops onto the bottom rope and meets the charge with a jump, hooking a front facelock in and using both men's momentum to cut the charge short as a DDT.

Hopper promptly appears behind him and gets a back suplex to stagger the Machine; as his partner recovers, Hopper gets a backbreaker on Anderson, holding him in place as Fonda hits the ropes. Only as Fonda's legdrop crashes down on Anderson's neck does Hopper release the hold, letting him tumble to the mat. Williams shoes Peter out, leaving Fonda to continue a beatdown which will soon see Anderson whipped toward the Riders' corner, where Hopper's boot rests on the top rope waiting for the Machine to crash into it.

A series of slams, the Riders tagging in and out to alternate who delivers them, continues the beatdown, but Anderson eventually slips out the back when Hopper's trying something and staggers backward far enough that Hill can tag himself in.

Hill comes in strong, a real house of fire that sees Hopper eat a snap supex before Fonda gets an inverted atomic drop and a slingshot headscissors. Anderson's just about pulled himself upright at that point, and Hill shoves Fonda in his direction. The Machines cut Fonda down with a combination chop block (Anderson) and short-arm lariat (Hill).

Hill gets a powerslam and diving elbow, but Peter Hopper drops an elbow of his own to interrupt the pin.

The Machines rally, whipping Hopper to the ropes, but he explodes off them with a big boot for Hill and a clothesline for Anderson. He tries, of all things, a sunset flip, but Eugene Williams is checking on John Anderson as he rolls to the outside.

An attempted Emergency Stop is blocked, with Hill flipping into an inverted DDT on Hopper. Fonda promptly clotheslines him over the top rope, steps onto the apron, and launches himself out onto the Machines, bringing them both crashing down near the guardrail.

He rams Hill back-first into the ring apron and goes to whip Anderson into the steel steps, but Anderson stops himself, kicking Fonda in the gut. Hill comes out of nowhere to bulldog Billy to the ground on the outside. The Machines congratulate each other, then turn – and Peter Hopper slingshots himself over the top rope and to the outside, wiping them both out with a cross body.

He rolls Hill back into the ring and sets for a charging powerbomb, which Hill counters, rolling down his back into a sunset flip. Fonda makes the save by almost kicking Hill's head off.

Fonda leaves the ring again, pitching Anderson in between bottom and second rope. The Riders set up, and Fonda hits a snap suplex on Anderson. Hopper follows that up with a stalling vertical on Hill, bringing him crashing down across his tag team partner. Maybe that was a mistake, as when Hopper goes for the pin, Anderson helps Hill get his shoulder up.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MarcSpeed_FIN4.jpg

Hopper looks furious, then looks outside – and freezes. Marc Speed is there, and he's got Batch in something very like a chokehold. Hopper stares -

Anderson gets the Ammo Dump on the distracted Rider. Hill cuts off Fonda's rescue attempt by dropkicking his knee out, then applies the Complete Package to Hopper's battered form, forcing a submission.

Kreed w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Stone Brothers

Jeremy arrogantly tosses Art around after the initial lock-up and asks him to tag in Greg.

Art refuses because he wants to prove himself, though. He hits Jeremy with a seated dropkick and a headscissors, then rushes again and eats a belly-to-belly off the charge for his trouble.

Reed rolls clear of Jeremy's attempted armlock, however, and gets a backflip dropkick to buy some more space. A spinwheel kick is ducked; Art lands on his feet, but the older Stone straightens up, reaches back, and gets a neckbreaker in no time at all. He goes for a cover but the Kreed man kicks out at one.

Slam attempt is countered into a headscissors takedown and Art uses the momentum, leaping clear halfway across the ring to tag out.

The young Keith comes in cautiously as Jeremy picks himself back up. Stone rushes him and Greg rolls clear, getting some space again. A second rush eats a dropkick by Greg, who goes for a kimura and gets himself turned over into a pin cover, but squirms out fast enough to drop an elbow across Jeremy's neck before the veteran can stand up.

Jeremy stands off from Greg for a moment, then tags himself out. Edd vaults over the top rope, ducks a clothesline, does a handstand, then converts that into a series of capoeira kicks. Greg takes the first two, gets his wits together enough to block the third, leaps the legsweep and drops to his knees anyway to clamp down an abdominal stretch.

Edd slowly manages to climb back onto his feet, still in the hold, and eventually armdrags Greg from behind him to break the hold, boots him in the gut and whips him to the ropes; as Greg hits the ropes, Jeremy Stone brings up his knee, catching the younger man in the small of the back.

Edd attempts a leg lariat as Greg rebounds, but Keith has the ring awareness needed to duck that, catching Edd with a series of chops and a slam. He goes to capitalise but Edd once again whips him toward the ropes; this time, Greg leaps before reaching them, catching Jeremy with a shoulderblock that sends him tumbling off the apron.

Edd's waiting, however, and he gets a tornado DDT as Greg turns around. He boosts himself to the second rope and drops a knee into the small of Keith's back, then tags out and Jeremy continues the beatdown.

That goes on for some while, tagging in and out, before the brothers find a rhythm they're comfortable with. Jeremy tags out again, then belly-to-bellies Greg. Edd charges across the ring to dropkick Art off the apron then climbs the turnbuckle, but that extra time allows Greg to recover.

He crotches Edd, climbs, and hits a superplex. Rather than try for a pin, he dives for his corner.

HOT TAG TO Reed! Art returns Edd's favour, charging the diagonal to punch Jeremy off the apron and rebounding with a sliding dropkick to Edd's face.

Jeremy storms back in but Art is ready, catching him with a punch, then three chops, and finally a whip toward the ropes with enough power that the older Stone tumbles over the top rope and to the floor. Art hops to the second rope and leaps off to legdrop Edd.

A Victory Roll attempt sees Edd shove him off, flapjacking him and stepping through into a Stone Hold. The crowd roar, but Greg makes the save. Near the ropes, Art looks for the Dark Matter, but Edd blocks it, hits a jawbreaker, and appears to be looking for a flashy DDT when Greg slips into the ring and lines up alongside Art. Together, they suplex Edd and Art goes for the pin, but Sam Sparrow makes sure Greg's left the ring first and Edd's able to kick out after a long two count.

Art looks to the turnbuckle, climbing, but Jeremy rolls into the ring right next to the turnbuckle, steps onto the second rope, and unleashes an explosive top-rope armdrag that sees Reed crash to the mat almost the entire ring away.

Jeremy hits a backbreaker and an overhead belly-to-belly. Edd adds more punishment, including a series of chops delivered as part of the Saturday Night Fever dance and to that rhythm.

Art counters a headscissors of Edd's own by slamming him into the turnbuckle, though, and once again dives to tag Greg in!

Greg charges and gets a fast release German on Edd. Jeremy comes in and Greg and Art unite in a two-man snap DDT and Greg promptly covers.

One, two, thr- Edd breaks it up with a Shooting Star Press, but he's hit Jeremy at least as hard as Greg.

Art tosses Edd from the ring and Greg covers again. ONE, TWO, THR- NO!

Jeremy gets a shoulder up and blocks a slam attempt. Go-behind into a desperation Stone's Throw, and Edd crashes to the mat in his brother's – and niece's – From Canada With Love diving headbutt to add a capstone.

Jeremy's about to cover when Art sneaks back in, pulls the veteran off his partner, and hits a Dark Matter. Edd delivers the Edd-Renaline Shot and picks up Greg who promptly drags him down into the Proton Lock.

Jeremy wrenches Greg's arms free to save his brother. Stone's Throw! Cover! ONE, TWO, THRE- NO! The crowd are almost apocalyptic at this point. Greg drags Jeremy over and looks for the Proton Lock, but Jeremy rolls through and applies the Stone Hold. At 19:38 wrestled, Greg Keith can take it no longer and taps out.

Jeremy rolls out of the ring after the match is won and grabs the microphone from the ring announcer before he's even finished announcing the official result. He subsequently glowers at the man until he flees, then raises the mic to his lips, still looking to catch his breath.

“Tornado,” he begins. “Rockwell. Kreed, now, alongside my brother... and if it hadn't been for RDJ finding himself the weakest way to cheat a win possible, him too.

“I've been destroying champions around here ever since I set my sights on the World Heavyweight Championship, and yet I've had to take matters into my own hands every damn time to get a title shot. Seems like this company just will not recognise talent...”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MayhemMidden.jpg

That's when Shout At The Devil begins to play, and Jeremy trails off as Mayhem Midden comes out to the stage, glowering at Stone from range.

“We recognise talent, alright,” Midden begins. “All four of the men who just wrestled that match... that's talent. Ricky Dale Johnson, our current #1 Contender... that's talent. Wolf Hawkins, or World Heavyweight Champion... I hate to admit it, but that's talent.

“And yes, Jeremy, beating Troy, beating Kreed, beating Chris Rockwell... all that takes talent. Championship talent.

“But you're championship talent that threatened a manager. You're championship talent that had someone beaten up and hired help to win a battle royale for a shot. You're championship talent who relied on another champion to win your match with RDJ and blew it...

“And you're championship talent who's been whining as much as he's been winning. I have a little leeway from my employers on the Board of Investors, and let me tell you, Jeremy, I've been using it. Why should I give you three shots in three months when RDJ went a year and a quarter without one?

“TCW is full of championship talent. And you're pushing to the front of the line...”

“No one gets anything if they don't make a case for it,” Stone responds. Midden actually grins at that.

“No, that's true,” he says. “You know what I wanna get? I wanna get some damn peace and quiet.

“So here's the case I'm making for it, and just remember, Jeremy, what I say round here goes. You want to change that, maybe we should butt heads a few times.

“You are going into the Excessive Force match. Because you have earned it. But RDJ has, too, so he stays... and here's where we come to my peace and quiet.

“See, if you don't win the belt, I will not listen to a single appeal for why you should get a title shot during the rest of 2009. If you don't win this time, Jeremy, you can find something else to go for, because maybe I'm wrong... maybe you aren't championship talent.”

And that confrontation, with Midden smiling and Stone frowning, is the last thing on viewers' screens before Saturday Night Showcase comes to a close.

- I'm starting to overdo the A* matches, I can tell.

- Kreed/Stones is my tribute to probably my favourite tag match of the last decade. I'm not sure how recognisable said match actually is after the adjustments and rewrites to fit the workers I had in it, but it is.

I don't know why but I read it like Los Guerreros vs Benoit/Angle from back when they were a part of the Smackdown 6, but I doubt that was the match in question.

That's EXACTLY how I see it, holy sh*t you beat me to it.

You have one of the teams right, but obviously enough, therefore, not the match.

Honestly, I'm glad it doesn't quite read like a carbon copy - I don't wnat to just duplicate what's done.

I'm more amused by the C+ match (haven't seen one in awhile) and the A*/A* match finisher with the A show (know I saw and commented on that once).

You mean aside from the two C+ matches and the C- that came up on Badge of Honor just this past week, right?

As for the overall show... it happens. Like you say, you've commented on it yourself before.

A* show is 99+, right? For HoI and such, 95+ counts as A* for maches. But will the grade shown count 95+, or 99+?

Dude, this part is in the help file. 99% is ONLY the A* crossing point for matches. A* shows are 96+.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/One-Offs/SamKeith.jpgFriday 19th June 2009

Patience is a damned tough thing in any line of business. It can be awfully hard in this business, but it's also awfully necessary in this business. Patience might just be the great secret to success in professional wrestling, if such a foolish thing exists.

The so-called "conventional booking wisdom" would tell you that a "standard feud" should run for about 3-4 months when you have a weekly TV and monthly PPV schedule. That "standard booking wisdom" has also lead to plenty of good men booking themselves right out of business. You move guys through a bunch of feuds too quick and before long, you got nothin' left that the fans haven't already seen.

Sometimes people forget what this business is about. That it's a business. That it exists because the fans are willing to pay money to see us get in that ring and do our thing. If fans aren't wiling to pay, the business dies. Its that damned simple. I've been doing this for more than thirty years now and I can tell you this with absolute conviction - nothing will get the fans to part with their money like a long, well-built feud will.

Some of the greatest feuds in this business have run years. Strong and Chord. Elemental and Optimus. Kikkawa and Kudo. Tommy and Ricky. Me and Faith. These feuds created great matches but maybe more importantly, they made money. Endless money.

It ain't about creating one continuous feud, one continuous story. Its about creating a series of smaller stories that layer together to create an epic, long-running feud. It ain't easy and it doesn't always work, but when it comes together, fans will be paying up to watch that feud for years.

What brings this thought to mind is Horatio. I have to hand it to the man, he's showing the right patience with Tommy and Hawkins. They teased it for a long time before Hawkins turned on Cornell. Fans have been clamoring for it to happen every since... but it hasn't. It won't yet. You gotta make those fans want to see it so bad they could burst. Hell, I think some of the boys in the back even think we're playing it out too long. But no, this is right. This is what's going to make the most money in the long run.

When Tommy and Wolf finally step into that ring, just the two of em, it's gonna bring together elements put in place a long long time ago. And if they carry things through right, it can still be a money feud for Total a decade from now.

That's another way that patience is gonna pay off in this business. Doing things slow and doing things right makes sure that you're making money today, tomorrow, next month, next year, and ten years down the road. See, it really don't matter just much money you make today if you aren't making any at all a month or a year down the line. You need to keep one eye on the bottom line and the other on the down the line.

There are other ways that patience will help you in this business, but that's another lesson for another day...

We've just received the scheduled card for this Tuesday and fans, there is no way we could waste any time letting you know what's on tap this time around. Without further ado, then...

As an opening, the School of Tradition's tag team Global Tradition will be going head to head with two men who exemplify the North American tradition being handed down from mentor to student. They are Sam Keith and the former World Heavyweight Champion Johnny Bloodstone. And what a match to begin a show with...

The next match sees more of the School in action, as Acid Dragon will look to take on Golden Law. With so many tag teams in action, could this have something to do with Mayhem Midden's promised announcement regardin the Excessive Force tag team championship?

Another former World Heavyweight Champion will be in action next, as Troy Tornado takes on Darkwave's masked marvel Ian Harris. With most of Darkwave busy at one time or another tonight, Harris may not be in position to offer much support - but if he can outpace Tornado, he can leave a mark in just three seconds.

Chris Rockwell and Texas Pete got into a shouting match after the last instalment of Saturday Night Showcase. Offered a match against one another by Mayhem Midden, both men refused - so Midden has encouraged them to work out their differences in tag team action, going up against the leviathans M.A.D.

The School of Tradition have asked for an intergender tag team match against Team KOBRA, and Midden has approved. It's known that Hidekazu and Suzanne Brazzle will represent Team KOBRA, and that Frankie Dee will be one of the School's representatives... Eric Tyler has promised to unveil the newest member of the School during the show.

Team KOBRA's busy night continues as Shingen Miyazaki goes one on one with Darkwave's Zimmy in non-title action. With Acid having been a thorn in Miyazaki's side for two months, and the champion having been recently beaten down by Jack Marlowe at the instigation of the Fly Boys, will Zimmy add his name to the list of potential issues? It's tough wearing a belt in TCW, but our champions swear it's worth the pain.

In the final of the trilogy of Team KOBRA matches, its leader will be in action. Koshiro Ino goes head to head for the first time with Matthew Keith, who has again refused to allow the Blonde Bombshell to accompany him to ringside.

And that brings us to the main event. On one side, Tommy Cornell and #1 Contender Ricky Dale Johnson. On the other, Darkwave's Jack Bruce and Sammy Bach. Will the men some of our fans have dubbed 'freedom fighters' against Generation Omega triumph, or can Jack Bruce take his ally to the top of the hit parade?

And with the intense rivalry between Eddie Peak and Remo Richardson in recent weeks, can the Total Wrestling set survive the month? Will these two warriors be in any condition to enter the Test of Steel this coming Sunday?

Prediction Key:

Global Tradition w/ Laura Huggins vs. Johnny Bloodstone & Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. Golden Law

Ian Harris (of Darkwave) vs. Troy Tornado

Chris Rockwell & Texas Pete vs. M.A.D.

Frankie Dee & ???? w/ Laura Huggins vs. Hidekazu & Suzanne Brazlle w/ Baroness Emily

Shingen Miyazaki w/ Baroness Emily vs. Zimmy (non-title)

Matthew Keith vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Jack Bruce & Sammy Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Tommy Cornell

Global Tradition w/ Laura Huggins vs. Johnny Bloodstone & Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. Golden Law

I'm grouping these together because they both seem obvious... which means one of them will be a swerve. I'm calling Dragon because they seem shiftier, and I'm calling Jack Marlowe run-in.

Ian Harris (of Darkwave) vs. Troy Tornado - No contest

This could devolve into a brawl. I'm not sure what it proves if it goes the distance -- of COURSE the main Painful Procedure guy beats the no. 4 guy from Darkwave. That's like having Jack Bruce vs. Gumble.

Chris Rockwell & Texas Pete vs. M.A.D.

Monsters look credible by beating credible guys. Credible guys stay credible because why are they a tag team?

Frankie Dee & ???? w/ Laura Huggins vs. Hidekazu & Suzanne Brazlle w/ Baroness Emily

Frankie Dee got squashed by McFly, and it was awesome. So he should get a push. New School of Tradition lady is new, so she should get a push. Suzanne earned the title shot, so she should get a push. Hidekazu's the odd man out here -- the last guy off the bench for the stable. Sorry!

Shingen Miyazaki w/ Baroness Emily vs. Zimmy (non-title)

This is probably the kind of feud Zimmy needs. Non-title makes it possible.

Matthew Keith vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Not a good night for Team KOBRA! But I can't pick anyone who's not a main eventer over Keith right now. I wouldn't be shocked if there was some kind of team-related drama... some of that long-hinted-at friction.

Jack Bruce & Sammy Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Tommy Cornell

The guys from the main feud beat the guys from one of the secondary feuds, firmly re-establishing that the main feud is the big story in the company.

Global Tradition w/ Laura Huggins vs. Johnny Bloodstone & Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

Bloodstone and Keith are way bigger names than Global Tradition

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. Golden Law

Same here, Golden Law is simply so much higher on ladders that I don´t see them to lose to UK Dragon.

Ian Harris (of Darkwave) vs. Troy Tornado

Tornado has to stay strong as he is the only member on his stable that I see as more than midcard jobber.

Chris Rockwell & Texas Pete vs. M.A.D.

Hard to say here but M.A,D could definitely use the win here, well so could their opponents but I think that M.A.D needs it more they are a monster team after all.

Frankie Dee & ???? w/ Laura Huggins vs. Hidekazu & Suzanne Brazlle w/ Baroness Emily

This one is little hard to say as well but Brazzle is having a title shot so I´d say that right now she is most important wrestler here regardless of who the mystery woman is.

Shingen Miyazaki w/ Baroness Emily vs. Zimmy (non-title)

Non-title so I give this one to Zimmy

Matthew Keith vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Another hard one but I go with Matt losing again as he´s heel turn isn´t complete yet and he seems to be collecting some frustrating losses right now.

Jack Bruce & Sammy Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Tommy Cornell

Not that Bruce and Bach are bad or anything but I don´t see them going over here.

I've got a baaaad feeling about these predictions

***

Global Tradition w/ Laura Huggins vs. Johnny Bloodstone & Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

- I just can't see the Global School coming out on top here, even with hijinks.

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. Golden Law

- Simply because I really dislike the moniker Golden Law. Which, sadly, makes more sense than most of my choices.

Ian Harris (of Darkwave) vs. Troy Tornado

- I can't, in good faith, vote for the mystery masked man with the bland name. Take off the do-rag then Husky.

Chris Rockwell & Texas Pete vs. M.A.D.

- OMG!~ Back to back non-losses for Floyd? Yes, I know Goldjobby isn't managing Buffalo anymore. I don't think.

Frankie Dee & ???? w/ Laura Huggins vs. Hidekazu & Suzanne Brazlle w/ Baroness Emily

- I never bet against ???? Now with extra ?s

Shingen Miyazaki w/ Baroness Emily vs. Zimmy (non-title)

- Zimmy just seems to be on the up and Miyazaki doesn't seem credible despite the fact that he likely should.

Matthew Keith vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

- Bad night for KOBRA, a good night to be Ota. Emily is tired from all the bokken shots.

Jack Bruce & Sammy Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Tommy Cornell

- Southern London Justice keep the #1 Contender looking strong.

***

Meanwhile: Remo and Peak go the zoo... this can't end well.

Global Tradition w/ Laura Huggins vs. Johnny Bloodstone & Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

No way, no how.

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. Golden Law

Acid Dragon = jobbers.

Ian Harris (of Darkwave) vs. Troy Tornado

Whilst this is Eagle's debut, Troy is the head of the PP stable, and I can't see him being over enough to win here.

Chris Rockwell & Texas Pete vs. M.A.D.

Bainanigans.

Frankie Dee & ???? w/ Laura Huggins vs. Hidekazu & Suzanne Brazlle w/ Baroness Emily

New girl looks strong on debut.

Shingen Miyazaki w/ Baroness Emily vs. Zimmy (non-title)

Guns attack everything in sight.

Matthew Keith vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Through dubious methods/interference.

Jack Bruce & Sammy Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Tommy Cornell

RDJ needs a win for his credentials.

Global Tradition w/ Laura Huggins vs. Johnny Bloodstone & Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

The only tradition, Global Tradition have going right now, is one of jobbing.

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. Golden Law

Until Acid Dragon, actually win a meaningful match, I can't tip them to win. This might be that match, but until they do I'm not going to try and second guess the booker.

Ian Harris (of Darkwave) vs. Troy Tornado

Tornado's the leader of Painful Procedure, and established upper card prescence and a former World Champion, I can't see any reason why a lowly ranked member of the rival 'band' should go over here...even if it is NOT Black Eagle's debut.

Chris Rockwell & Texas Pete vs. M.A.D.

For the monster heel pair to be taken seriously, they need to beat up on more than lightweight jobbers.

Frankie Dee & ???? w/ Laura Huggins vs. Hidekazu & Suzanne Brazlle w/ Baroness Emily

I like the way Oregano, though through this one, and I have to agree with his reasonings....on the overall scheme of things Hidekazu is the 'weak link' here.

Shingen Miyazaki w/ Baroness Emily vs. Zimmy (non-title)

Non Title, so I think Zimmy wins this to put himself in position for a shot at the All Action belt.

Matthew Keith vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Could go the other way but I think Keith will just about pull out the win here....the Bokken's going to be doing overtime.

Jack Bruce & Sammy Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Tommy Cornell

Cornell & RDJ are involved in the main feud and are MAIN EVENT, Bruce & Bach are part of an Upper Midcard B-feud.

Johnny Bloodstone & Sam Keith w/ Blonde Bombshell

It's certainly not a brilliant match, but it's far from a bad one. The Global Tradition crew are just as good at making sure everything they do in the ring makes perfect sense to those watching. They are, however, easily outwrestled by their opponents despite their determination, and it's only their mastery of the tag team aspect of wrestling that keeps them in contention.

Morgan and Bryant are a unified force inside the ring; whatever one man does, the other is immediately primed to back them up, make things dangerous. Morgan slams Keith, and Bryant is already off the top rope with a kneedrop – a tribute to his former tag partner Robert Oxford.

On the other hand, Sam has all the wrestling savvy in the world, and Bloodstone has youth and speed on the Tradition. It's he who capitalises, putting Bryant into the Bloodstone Mutilation in the centre of the ring. Bryant holds on just long enough to know the cavalry isn't going to be coming, and taps to preserve himself.

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. Golden Law

Over the past few weeks, Acid Dragon's performances on the house circuit and their rare appearances on TV have highlighted just how well the two complement one another's soaring, spectacular approach. Acid spends much of his time with his body language as a precise mimic of his team mate, allowing the two some uncanny-seeming duplicate sequences, either one after the other or simultaneously.

They take it to Golden Law with the intensity of warriors, and for a while Golden in particular looks harried. He does, however, block a spinwheel kick with both arms, then gets the twisting snap powerslam on Acid – and UK Dragon promptly comes off the top rope with a diving lariat, only to be caught and belly-to-bellied across the ring.

Rick Law also gives a good account of himself, eventually mowing Acid down with a Long Arm of the Law to secure the victory.

Shout At The Devil begins to play, and as always, Mayhem Midden heads down to the ring. Charlie Thatcher accompanies him, twin steel baseball bats slung over his shoulders, scanning the crowd.

Azaria notes that Generation Omega have developed a tendency to strike from the crowd, and of course that Mayhem Midden's setting up the match between a member of Vibert's stable and Sean McFly makes him a target.

It makes sense, then, that Thatcher never stops scanning the crowd.

“Alright,” Midden says into the microphone. “I'm gonna make this short and sweet. Got no real reason to like this, but...

“See, when I offer someone a shot at a title, I expect them to understand it's a sign of some damn respect. I'm fine with someone saying 'No, sir, Mr Midden, I don't think I'm ready, and I want to make sure when I take my shot I'm ready to win.' It ain't too brave, but it's a smart man who knows his own limitations.

“Other hand, if someone accepts then backs out, that's annoying for a whole bunch of reasons. We had advertising in place, we had... ah, hell, you guys don't need to hear me rail on it.

“GenOme, listen up. The Rising Stars have withdrawn from title shot contention and as far as I'm concerned are gonna have to earn their way back in. On the other hand, we have a few teams with the records to demand a shot.

“And I don't like the thought of trying to choose between some of these guys. Two teams who can't even settle the better between themselves, one team who've only ever lost once...

“I'm calling it. This Sunday we'll see the return of Tag Wars. And it's going to be GenOme... it's going to be the Kreed... it's going to be the British Lions... and it's going to be Golden Law. “

Ian Harris vs. Troy Tornado

Troy looks more than a little curious as Harris comes down to the ring, iThink playing as he progresses. There's been little seen of Harris' ability to date; he's certainly fast, and equally certainly acrobatic, but beyond that, little that's been done has given potential opponents a real gauge for how capable he's likely to be.

As the bell goes, both men lunge forward. Harris ducks a swing by Tornado, jumping to plant a boot in the back of the lead singer's head, and as Troy rebounds off the ropes, Harris is going low with a legsweep. The former champ sees it coming, vaulting over it and delivering a falling lariat in response.

Harris continues to move fast, peppering Tornado with punches, chops, and the occasional leaping kick to hammer the point home – but Tornado's dealt with fast men before, and he is, himself, constantly in motion. Once he shuts Harris down – catching a kick and using that as an opportunity to lay Harris out with a discus punch – it's all Tornado, putting his opponent away with a Tornado Driver.

Chris Rockwell & Texas Pete vs. M.A.D.

This one's an interesting bout... Rockwell and Pete have both faced down the Buffalo before, but while Marat Khoklov has a few losses on his sheet, none of them have come easily or without cost. On top of that, while Rockwell and Pete are undisputably the better mat workers, there are indications following Baine's recent activities that the two are at odds.

So it proves, in fact; Rockwell survives the first three minutes with Khoklov – not unscathed, far from it – by keeping moving, keeping the pace up, and striking fast, careful not to allow a strike back. Even then, he's left hurting – bleeding, even, after Khoklov one-handedly hurls him over the top turnbuckle and facefirst into the corner post. He manages to tag out, and Pete comes in via the top rope, clambering up the corner to come off with a flying headbutt to the standing Russian giant.

Khoklov stumbles backward, but doesn't fall; Pete, on the other hand, crashes to the mat off the impact, clutching his head. It looks like he'll be easy prey for the big Russian, but Buffalo chooses that moment to take a blind tag and come on in.

Buffalo and Pete is an uneven contest, but after a while the Hard-Hitting Champion is worn down, still reeling from the injury to his head. Buffalo whips him into the corner and goes for the Stampede, but Pete moves clear, diving across the ring -

Chris Rockwell jumps down from the apron, refusing the tag. Buffalo, on the other hand, tags in Khoklov, and the Moscow Lariat claims another victim.

The big screen cuts in, showing the TCW interview area, with Autumn Gleeson in residence as it seems she always is. Alongside her are Eric Tyler and Laura Huggins. Tyler is nodding his head in stern satisfaction as Gleeson flashes a broad, confident smile to the camera.

“Some impressive work there from M.A.D.,” she says, “even if there's an argument that their opponents cost themselves the match. Up next, though, the School of Tradition prepare to face off with Team KOBRA – in intergender tag team competition.

“So that means, as a fan of tag team competition and womens' wrestling, I'm more than a little excited. Eric, you've got a female student in the School of Tradition?”

Tyler nods, still smiling, but it's Laura Huggins who speaks.

“We reviewed a long list of candidates,” she says. “Mr Tyler's time is valuable, and close education is the only way to progress. We can't afford to take in twenty or more students and hope one breaks through, so the School's job is to take someone who has the potential and polish them until they're an Eric Tyler, a New Wave, a Joel Bryant, a Sean Deeley – a wrestler who can hold their own on the world stage.” Tyler flinches a little at the mention of Sean Deeley, but he recovers.

“Right, exactly,” he continues. “And going up against Team KOBRA and the top contender for the TCW Womens' belt is a good way to demonstrate how good our choice was – especially after three months of solid training in my classroom. Jaime, girl, come on out and let the people see you.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JaimeQuine.jpg

Jaime Quine steps out into the camera's view, taping her wrists as she does so.

“Time to make an impact,” Laura says quietly and supportively. “Jaime here can take her opponent's head off with a single kick. Tonight you'll see exactly why we enrolled her.”

Hidekazu & Suzanne Brazzle w/ Baroness Emily

It's a remarkable little contest, this one, as four of the least-well-supported TCW workers unite to slowly wring out a half-decent reaction from those wrestling fans not currently at a concession stand.

Hidekazu and Dee pair off early on, and we get something of a wrestler vs. martial artist contest, with Dee's stiff kicks and slick throws up against Hidekazu's dogged, scientific approach in the ring. Meanwhile, Quine and Brazzle both look to play the striking game, the School woman looking to apply that brutal-looking buzzsaw kick known as the K.O. Kick, Brazzle simply looking for the straight right that is the Miracle Connection.

After a while, however, the necessities of saving partners from one another leads to the breakdown of gender lines and, soon, to the breakdown of the match overall. All four are in the ring right near the end; Frankie Dee nails Hidekazu with a Sinanju Kick, a spinning roundhouse kick to the head. He's poised to celebrate, but Suzanne Brazzle ducks the K.O. Kick Quine throws, drops Dee with a Miracle Connection from the side, and tosses Quine out of the ring to score the pinfall.

Shingen Miyazaki w/ Baroness Emily vs. Zimmy

Shingen Miyazaki finally looks like having a coming-out performance as he and Zimmy make the time they're given mean something.

Miyazaki's technical style has been developing more and more of a flair in recent weeks, with the grappler becoming more confident in his ability to win and consequently feeling free to add in some flashier approaches that play to the crowd a little more.

Notable among these – the first time he applies the Ankle Lock in this match, he does so as Zimmy whips him to the corner; Miyazaki runs up the ropes, backflips into an inverted DDT, snags Zimmy's foot as it whips up into reach, and steps up to turn Zimmy over into the lock.

The Darkwave man manages to reach the ropes, however, and mounts a spirited comeback, with the match slipping out of Miyazaki's control a couple of times. Zimmy hits the ropes and launches off into a spinkick, but the All Action Champion ducks it – and Eugene Williams takes the kick full in the face.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SteveGumble_Grunge2.jpg

Zimmy grins, spins, and drives for a low blow, but Miyazaki manages to block, driving Zimmy away with a double palm strike. A moment later Steve Gumble slams a boot into the side of Zimmy's head in a Savate Kick.

Miyazaki bows to Gumble for a split second, then plucks the leg, locking in the Ankle Lock once again. In the centre of the ring, Zimmy has no choice but to tap.

Matthew Keith vs. Koshiro Ino w/ Baroness Emily

Ino offers a closed fist to start, and Matt brushes his knuckles against it in a salute – then immediately lunges forward with a punch. Ino fires back and, in short order, has the upper hand, raining blows down on his opponent.

Keith starts to crawl out of the ring, but Ino grabs him and draws him back in. Matt cuts off the beatdown – just barely – with a nicely-executed jawbreaker.

Keith preens. Ino fires back with brutal-sounding chops and goes for an underhook powerbomb, but Matt boosts himself over the top, hooking the arms on the way down to get a backslide. Ino, however, flexes his way out, showing remarkable dexterity for a big man, and slows things with an abdominal wrench.

Matt goes to the ribs to counter and fights his way into position for a backdrop suplex.

Now, Keith starts to circle and taunt Ino, but he refuses to lock up, letting the fans' ire build.

Finally, he just spits right in Ino's face. Koshiro wipes the spit off and holds his open palm out to beckon Matt.

Matt comes in fast, figuring he has the psychological advantage, but Ino is waiting. He gets a snap suplex for two and opens up with punches. Ino hits Keith with his own Neutron-Plex, but Matt twists in the execution and takes it in what looks like a less nasty way. He's able to kick out at two.

Keith flies at Ino with a crossbody block that gets a close fall of his own and whips Ino into the corner, setting up for a superplex, but Ino counters, sending him to the mat, and splashes Keith off the top. He then tries a sunset flip, but Keith pulls a foreign object from his tights, blasts Ino with it, and sits down for the pin. Subsequent replays show it to have been a set of brass knuckles.

The remainder of KOBRA fill the ring. Ino looks more than a little annoyed at being the only one to have lost, but he leads the group in saluting the victorious trio, and takes his bokken shot stoically.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/PhilVibert.jpg

“I can NOT be the only one who's sick of this.” Phil Vibert's voice comes over the PA system. It takes the camera a few moments to find him; eventually it does, stood within the crowd, near the timekeeper's table, having grabbed a microphone from the table itself. “This mutual masturbation society out here,” he gestures to the ring, “all so proud of yourselves because didn't you do well, winning when someone else ran in to help you?

“I mean, seriously... you people think you look impressive? That there is any part of what you do that people think is impressive?”

Emily frowns, plucking a microphone from a pouch at her belt and offering it to Miyazaki. The All-Action Champion looks to Ino, who nods, and that seems to give Shingen permission to speak.

“Because we do most things relying only on our own sagacity we become self-interested, turn our backs on reason, and things do not turn out well,” he begins.

“As seen by other people this is sordid, weak, narrow and inefficient. When one is not capable of true intelligence,” here he gestures at Vibert, “it is good to consult with someone of good sense. An advisor will fulfil the Way when he makes a decision by selfless and frank intelligence because he is not personally involved.”

Vibert snorts. “Like that means anything.”

“Oh, but it does,” Emily smiles. “It means that our studies, our understanding, our unity of purpose – they give us something to keep us together. And all you have leading you is ego... which is bound to fail.

“By the way – since you make such use of your retainer on the Board of Investors – are you ready, yet, to defend that right? Have you a man who can overcome Sean McFly?”

Vibert glowers and leaves.

Jack Bruce & Sammy Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson & Tommy Cornell

The TCW faithful have been treated in recent weeks to some scorching main events, but while this provokes a strong response, it's not on the same level. Bruce and Bach unite to provide an exciting mix of styles, while Cornell and RDJ both, in their own ways, provoke the crowd into roaring approval, but nontheless...

It doesn't quite work. A New York Minute attempt is blocked by RDJ, who throws him off and goes for the Leaping Lariat, only for Bruce to duck as Sammy Bach soars in with the Adrenaline Shot to shatter the momentum he had going.

Cornell blocks the Bach on your Back, tries for a suplex, and finds a chop block coming the same way from Bruce. It's hectic for quite a while, but a second Adrenaline Shot misses its mark, putting Sam Sparrow down.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Remo.jpg

All four competitors immediately wheel to watch the outside. Remo hops the guardrail, drawing Cornell and RDJ's attention...

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/WolfHawkins.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MarcDuBois-1.jpg

And Wolf Hawkins blindsides Cornell, Marc DuBois crashing into RDJ. Bach and Bruce seem happy with this as Remo enters the ring, convinced that the three Generation Omega men will run roughshod until victory's certain...

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddiePeak.jpg

Eddie Peak appears on the entrance ramp, however, and Remo immediately breaks off his attack, scrambling from the ring to charge his enemy. They meet on the rampway, but their brawl quickly spills backward.

Meanwhile, RDJ's able to turn the tide on DuBois, dropping him with a Southern Justice. He drags Hawkins off Cornell, ending that beatdown. Jack Bruce moves to intervene -

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TroyTornado_nacht6.jpg

STAR MAKER FROM THE TOP ROPE! Tornado pops back up a second later. Sammy Bach promptly goes for the superkick, nailing Tornado, and turns around -

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/HarryAllen_Grunge3.jpg

GUNSLINGER'S REVENGE! Painful Procedure play to the crowd for a second as RDJ picks Cornell up. Furious, Hawkins charges.

Ricky turns – a punch – SOUTHERN JUSTICE!

“Could we be seeing a shadow of this Sunday?” Azaria yells. “Is Wolf Hawkins destined to have the shortest World Heavyweight Championship reign in history?”

Indeed, RDJ is currently standing over the champion, looking down on him in grim satisfaction. Troy taps him on the shoulder, and RDJ turns cagily, fist raised in case -

Harry Allen whips the dazed Bach into the big man, and the Number One Contender delivers a second Southern Justice. Cornell rouses Sparrow as Painful Procedure throw DuBois out of the ring. Slowly but surely, the referee counts one... two... three!

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddiePeak.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Remo.jpg

Peak and Remo have evidently been brawling for some time, however. The space they're in is known, vaguely, to the watching fans – it's the area directly behind the entrance, just below the giant video screen, as seen in a few backstage brawls back in the earliest days of TCW.

Remo rams Peak into a large metal pillar, onto which other, supporting struts are bolted. He fires off a punch but Peak somehow is still aware enough to catch it – and his head slams forward in a skull-cracking headbutt that drops the Generation Omega man to one knee. Peak promptly brings up a knee of his own, and Remo falls backward with a trickle of blood arcing from his lips through the air as his head whiplashes backwards.

The view cuts to a wide shot of the arena; through one of the jagged holes broken into the Total Wrestling set in previous weeks, we can just barely see the two men, though the backstage feed is also up on that giant screen.

Peak delivers a snap DDT to Remo as Richardson gets to one knee, finally putting him down for a moment. Breathing heavily, the Bloody-Handed God looks around – and his gaze lights on one of the bolted struts. He wrenches a chain loose from its mooring position on the pillar, helping to hold the big screen in place, and wraps it around a strut.

Bracing his foot against the big pillar, he takes the chain in both hands and wrenches, tugging as hard as he can before the strut gives with an audible protest.

Peak's satisfied grin is evident as he snatches up this hefty new weapon – for just an instant; moments later, a second scream of tortured metal echoes, much louder.

Peak looks confused for a second, then glances up, seeking the source -

Just as the giant video screen starts to topple, its moorings stressed beyond support.

The final shots of Total Wrestling in June 2009 see the giant screen crash onto the (thankfully empty) entrance ramp, bringing much of the set down in its wake, with a sound like thunder. Behind it, Eddie Peak stares, wide-eyed, at what he's done – then, slowly, a grin spreads across his face.

Another note to say thank you to those who voted for me in the DoTM, as if I'm reading it right, that marks only the second time A Quiet Retirement has taken the award...

And a quick note to apologise for slowdown; I've managed to get a contract to sell some RPG writing this month, and as such some of my free time is going elsewhere than the game. Badge of Honour should, nonetheless, be up in the next 12 hours, and we should have a Saturday Night Showcase preview before too long.
