Chris Benoit vs. Brian Pillman As good as Brian Pillman is, Benoit is just that little bit better in the ring.

WCW World Tag Team Titles Match: Harlem Heat defend vs. The Road Warriors Keep the titles on Harlem Heat for a bit longer.

Lord Steven Regal vs. Jim Duggan I'd imagine Duggan's part of the "old guard" getting phased out.

WCW World Television Title Match: Johnny B. Badd defends vs. Diamond Dallas Page Good start to a big push for DDP.

WCW United States Title Match: One Man Gang defends vs. Sting Sting should not job to the One Man Gang.

(WCW World Heavyweight Title Match?) The Giant vs. Hulk Hogan I think this one will be for the World title.

(WCW World Heavyweight Title Match?) Ric Flair defends vs. Randy Savage I'd give Flair the win heading into a rematch with The Giant.

Not sure on this one but I will go with Pillman because he has to look good in his feud with the Horsemen.

Back from my time at the training camp! It was a blast. But I'm gonna be settled in soon and back to diary writing!

hey man, i'm enjoying your diary. but i have some suggestions to make your diary a bit more enjoyable. Would it be too much to ask to use ppv logos, television show logos, wrestler pics, and wrestler belt pics during the results and news? Sorry but my imagination is average at best and the pictures would really make me appreciate your already awesome diary, more than i already do of course. :)

I do use the wrestler pics during my results section but the others can definitely be accomodated, especially the ones that you brought in. I appreciate those.

WCW MONDAY NITRO!

Monday Week 3 January 1996

Location: Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex - Birmingham, Alabama

Attendance: 15,000

Overall Rating: B-

TV Rating: 4.49

Pre Show: Road Warriors defeated The Faces of Fear in 8:24 when Road Warrior Animal defeated Meng by pinfall with a Doomsday Device...C-

Pre Show: A video plays hyping Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage...B+

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RicFlair.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/PaulWight.jpg

[The show begins with a video recapping just what happened last Saturday on WCW Saturday Night with a focus on the main event where Ric Flair walked out on The Giant, causing them to lose the match! This leads us to tonight's events where The Giant will take on Ric Flair for the WCW World Heavyweight Title!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RicFlairWorldChamp.jpg

[inside the arena, 'Theme From 2001: A Space Odyssey' begins to play as the crowd rises up in boos for the WCW World Heavyweight Champion! Flair is flanked by Horsemen members Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit as he walks down to the ring, giving a little strut midway down before finally reaching the ring and sliding inside. He is given a microphone.]

Ric Flair

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I know that each and every one of you have one question on your mind: What's causing all this??? Whooooooo. It's The Nature Boy, The Enforcer and The Crippler all in one ring together. And I am going to make a guarantee, well, a couple of guarantees. The first is that I will walk into the Clash with the WCW World Heavyweight Title belt around my waist. The second is that the fourth Horsemen member will be revealed at the Clash of the Champions. Who is that gonna be? Tune in to the Clash to find out. Now, Giant, last Saturday Night I just did what you told me to do. I let you handle the big business and now you want to challenge me in a match? I think that you're going a little out of your league, pal. Whooooo. You may be a big, living, fire breathing Giant but I am the WCW World Heavyweight Champion for a reason and that reason is because I am the best wrestler alive today. Whooooo. And tonight you're going to find out that out in the center of the ring because one thing you have to remember is that to be the man...Whoooooo...you have to beat the man and this belt makes me the man. Whooooo!"

[Ric's music cues up again as Arn and Chris just look on and escort Ric to the back. He seems to be taking no chances when it comes to being snuck up on by The Giant.]

Match #1

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/LexLuger.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/OneManGang.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/JimmyHart.jpg

Non Title

Lex Luger vs. One Man Gang

[A terrible match to lead off Nitro here as Luger looked to help Sting get one up on the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion by killing any momentum the Champion has. This was a semi back and forth match with Luger really getting in the majority of the shots. Luger lifted One Man Gang, showing his power, locking him in the Human Torture Rack! One Man Gang had no choice but to submit.]

Winner: Lex Luger

Match Rating: D

[Following the match, Luger refused to let go of the Rack! Jimmy Hart tried to break it up but Luger wouldn't let go!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/Sting.jpg

[The crowd cheered as the man called Sting rushed down to the ring and slid inside! Sting paused in front of Luger and said a few words, getting Luger to finally drop the One Man Gang. Sting and Luger walked away together.]

Match #2

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/DickSlater.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/JimmyGolden.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RobertFuller.jpg

Mystery Team vs. Dick Slater and Bunkhouse Buck

[slater and Buck came out first, led by their manager Col. Robert Parker. The crowd sat and watched, waiting to see who the mystery opponents would be...]

['STEINERIZED!']

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RickSteiner.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/ScottSteiner.jpg

[THE STEINER BROTHERS!]

[The mystery tag team came running down to the ring, causing the Studd Stable to bail out and the crowd cheered for Rick and Scott! Rick got down on all fours, growling at the Studd Stable while Scott stood over him, looking down at them with intense eyes and a hand on his brother's neck where the leash might be were he actually a dog instead of a Dogfaced Gremlin]

[The match itself was nothing to write home about, showing a dominant performance by Rick and Scott Steiner. Rick took out both members of the Studd Stable with Steinerlines and Scott hit them with overhead belly to belly suplexes and then he set up Bunkhouse Buck and hit the Frankensteiner! He thought about making the cover but then pointed toward the turnbuckles and lifted Bunkhouse Buck up to his shoulders. Rick climbed the turnbuckles -- TOP ROPE STEINER BULLDOG! Scott made the cover and got the three count!]

Winners: The Steiner Brothers

Match Rating: D+

[Following the match, Scott Steiner asked for a microphone and received it while Rick went around the ring barking...]

Scott Steiner

"That's right, WCW, we're back! My brother and I are looking for WCW World Tag Team gold and we don't care if it's the Road Warriors or Harlem Heat that we have to go through to get it. WCW, prepare to get Steinerized!"

[scott tossed away the microphone and gave his brother a hug and then they headed to the back.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/HulkHogan.jpg

[An interview time was given to the Immortal Hulk Hogan following that match and he hyped up his match with The Giant at Clash of the Champions! He tossed in a lot of 'brothers' and ended with a 'whatcha gonna do.']

Match #3

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/AlexWright.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/DiscoInferno.jpg

Alex Wright vs. Disco Inferno

[A dance-off started this match but just like the last match there wasn't much to write home about in this one. The crowd mostly used this as a merchandise/bathroom break. Disco Inferno got the pinfall following a chair shot to Alex Wright.]

Winner: Disco Inferno

Match Rating: D+

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/BookerT.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/StevieRay.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RoadwarriorAnimal.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RoadwarriorHawk.jpg

[in the backstage area, Harlem Heat has attacked The Road Warriors from behind! They use a couple of chairs to maintain their advantage but The Road Warriors fight back! It's a wild brawl backstage that has to be broken up by officials!]

Match #4

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/ScottNorton.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/DiamondDallasPage.jpg

Scott Norton vs. Diamond Dallas Page

[The former Arm-Wrestling Champion Norton put up quite a fight against the already seasoned veteran Diamond Dallas Page. Norton showed why he is so revered over in Japan, nearly getting several pinfalls over DDP. He lifted DDP for the Shoulder Breaker but Page reversed it -- DIAMOND CUTTER! He hit the Diamond Cutter out of nowhere but he makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Diamond Dallas Page

Match Rating: C-

[The crowd is silent after DDP and Scott Norton have left the ring. They are looking around and waiting for the next wrestler to come out...]

['SIMPLY RAVISHING...OWWWW!']

[The crowd is stunned as they look toward the entrance way. It couldn't be...could it?]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RickRude-1.jpg

['RAVISHING' RICK RUDE!]

[Rick walks out wearing his old robe and he receives a mixed reaction from the crowd as he slides inside the ring. Rude is handed a microphone...]

Rick Rude

"What I would like to have right now is for all you fat, out of shape, Birmingham, Alabama REDNECKS to keep the noise down while I take my robe off and show you what a real man is supposed to look like. Hit my music."

[The song starts up again as the crowd now definitely knows how to respond to Rude: BOOS! Rude takes off his robe slowly and gives a little hip gyration before giving that arrogant smile.]

Rick Rude

"Now, I know that each and every one of you know who I am. I am Ravishing Rick Rude. My wrestling career was cut short by an injury but that doesn't mean that I'm not gonna be hanging around here for awhile. You see, what I have decided to do is that I am going to pick a wrestler here in WCW and take him under my wing. That wrestler right now is undecided upon as I take a look at who is here. But rest assured that wrestler will be a future World Heavyweight Champion and he will be worthy of the name 'Ravishing.'

[Rick smiled and his music cued up again as he tossed the microphone down, heading to the back.]

Match #5

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/ChrisBenoit.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RandySavage2.jpg

Chris Benoit vs. Randy Savage

[Definitely, without a doubt, the match of the night here on Nitro. Savage started out quickly but Benoit soon grounded him into the mat, using various holds to keep the Macho Man off balance and from using some of that quickness and arial tactics that he still has. During the match, to no one's surprise, Arn Anderson and Ric Flair walked out, standing in Benoit's corner. Benoit took Savage down with a German Suplex into a bridge:

1...

2...

KICKOUT!]

[The Macho Man began using some of the crowd's cheering to his advantage and turned the tide on Benoit soon after that. Savage brought Benoit down with a body slam and then pointed toward the turnbuckles! Ric Flair slid inside the ring but Savage saw him! Savage pointed at Flair and Flair began begging off! But Savage was so focused on Flair that he didn't see Arn Anderson come in from behind -- CLIP TO THE KNEE! Referee Randy Anderson calls for the bell.]

Winner: Randy Savage

Match Rating: B+

[Following the match, the 3 Horsemen members stomped away on Savage! Ric moved toward the turnbuckles and climbed to the second turnbuckle as Arn and Chris held Savage's leg out -- KNEE DROP FROM THE SECOND TURNBUCKLE ONTO THE LEG OF SAVAGE! The Macho Man cries out in pain...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/PaulWight2.jpg

[it's The Giant!!!]

[The Giant comes out from the back, making a beeline for the ring along with Jimmy Hart and referee Nick Patrick! The Horsemen see him and dump out of the ring and The Giant makes the Choke Slam motion! It's The Giant and Ric Flair and it's on right now!]

Match #6

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RicFlairWorldChamp.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/PaulWight2.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/JimmyHart.jpg

WCW World Heavyweight Title Match

Ric Flair defends vs. The Giant

[Flair stared up at the ring and The Giant and slowly slid in, using the ropes to keep The Giant at bay. The match started off slow with Flair trying his best to stay away from The Giant while The Giant showed his strength, manhandling Flair into the corner and hitting him with those big, beefy forearm shots! These two did not flow very good within the ring, making for a slightly awkward bout. Flair managed to make a comeback and managed to get The Giant outside the ring where Arn Anderson put the boots to him and even used a steel chair on The Giant! The Giant was tossed back in the ring where Flair focused on the legs of The Giant with stomps and even a kneedrop across the knee of The Giant. Flair went for the Figure 4 Leglock but The Giant grabbed Flair by the throat instead!]

[Flair's eyes nearly bugged out of his head as The Giant choked him and lifted his way to his feet. Arn Anderson climbed up on the apron, getting the referee's attention while Chris Benoit hit Jimmy Hart! Benoit grabbed the megaphone and slid into the ring. The Giant had turned on Anderson but when he turned around both Benoit and Flair used the megaphone on The Giant! The Giant went down hard with that megaphone shot. Benoit rolled out of the ring and Flair made a cover:

1...

2...

3!!]

Winner: Ric Flair

Match Rating: C+

[Following the match, the Horsemen went to town on The Giant...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/RandySavage2.jpg

[uNTIL THE MACHO MAN ARRIVED! The Macho Man limped down toward the ring and slid inside, taking on the Horsemen with the help of The Giant...]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/HulkHogan.jpg

[Out comes Hulk Hogan! Hulk makes a beeline for The Giant, attacking him with clotheslines and punches!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/BrianPillman.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/wcw96/Sting.jpg

[brian Pillman and Sting join the fray and it's a wild brawl to end Nitro! The Clash is coming soon! Make sure you're tuned in but we're out of time!]

WCW.com...

It's the biggest card in the month of January. It's live and only on pay-per-view. It's the Clash of the Champions and what a lineup we have for you.

Will our main event be 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair defending the WCW World Heavyweight Title against 'Macho Man' Randy Savage? Or will The Giant be defending the belt against 'The Immortal' Hulk Hogan? That question will be answered on Monday Nitro but both matches will take place here tonight at the Clash!

Also the United States title will be on the line as The Dungeon of Doom's One Man Gang defends the title against the man they call Sting! What factor will Lex Luger have in this match, if any?

Brian Pillman will also be getting an opportunity against a member of the group that kicked him out: the Four Horsemen as he takes on The Canadian Crippler Chris Benoit! Will the Horsemen reign supreme in this match or will Pillman get a measure of revenge?

Plus more action!

I am glad that you brought in the Steiner Brothers (and it is good to see Scott before he became the roided up mush mouth that he is today).

As for the Fourth Horseman, well it could be anybody but Lex Luger looks like he has his mean streak back for what he did with One Man Gang.

Who do I want as the fourth Horseman? Why not Barry Windham?

Who do I think? Kurt Angle

Who do I want? I been thinking about this for a while, I kind of disliked the horseman around this time and no one really pops into my mind that would like me like them. How about Lord Steven Regal? I'm thinking that this guy is going to help Flair beat Savage so who at this time could really go against Savage? DDP?

Great show! I liked the way you had me thinking that Luger was going to be the 4th Horseman (I am probably the only one) and made it Sting. You were right I did not see that coming at all. I knew it was going to be a former Horseman (once again I was thinking Luger or Windham) but Sting never crossed my mind as he was a Horseman for only a short period of time.
