angeldelayette
I figured I'd start a thread here where you can feel free to speak about your favorite team's training camp and how things are going and what to expect, etc. I'll start first.. Carolina Panthers Well, it looks like the injury bug is gonna be hitting us early. Jon Beason tweaked his hamstring in the first practice but it looks like he'll be okay. It doesn't look like anything that's gonna be long lasting and one of those things that happens at the start of training camp. Ma'ake Kemoeatu's injury looks a little more serious though and word has it he is being sent back to Charlotte for X-Ray's. That's not a good thing. Hopefully, it's just a sprained ankle. jesterx7769
Carolina surprised me last year as they have been decent/better than average the last few years I guess I just wasn't expecting their running game to be as dominant as it was. If Delhomme doesn't throw all those interceptions in the playoffs again and the team stays healthy they may go far. Also curious to see if Peppers stays motivated and a pro bowler since he wanted a trade.

juggaloninjalee
DETROIT LIONS Stafford and Culpepper both are looking good. Our running back Kevin Smith is supposedly looking good too. Our new linebackers in Peterson and Foote have taken a mentor role to our younger guys and that core is looking to be the most improved on the team. I don't expect much out of Detroit and think they will lose the first 5 out of 6 games but I think they could finish the season with as many as 5 wins total on the year. Remianen
DENVER BRONCOS Robert Ayers signed so only Knowshon is still holding out. Ayers is going to play the elephant position in the 3-4 so, in essence, he has to learn two positions (outside 'backer and defensive end). If he does well, I kinda expect Mike Nolan to get him at least trying some things at defensive tackle on obvious passing downs. He would do the same with Elvis Dumervil but he's too short to play the middle. Jarvis Moss, despite being the team's #1 draft pick in '07, will not make the team. That's my prediction. He sucked last season and can't seem to pick up the OLB scheme (which is where he's being moved to) and now this drama with his "contemplating retirement" makes people question his heart. You never want people questioning your heart. I don't have high hopes for this team this year. I'd be surprised if they manage 8 wins with Kyle Orton under center, 9 with Chris Simms. I think it's going to take 3-5 years before Josh McDaniels' offense actually gets fully installed...IF he lasts that long. Brandon Marshall probably won't be wearing a Broncos uniform much longer and I could see them trading him to Carolina for Julius Peppers and a swap of 1st round picks. Wallbanger
Minnesota Vikings Percy Harvin joined the Vikings camp in Mankato, Minnesota on Sunday afternoon after finalizing the terms of his five-year contract late Saturday night ($14.28 million and includes $8.5 million in guarantees). Staff threw him immediately into the offensive mix, working him at slot and splitout, taking handoffs on reverses, kick/punt returns, and even some wildcat plays. Tavaris Jackson's Grade 1 MCL sprain has kept him off the field for most of camp; this has given Sage Rosenfels the opportunity to get comfortable with the Vikings system, with number 3 QB John David Booty getting a few reps in as well. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Rosenfels has connected with Bernard Berrian on several deep throws in camp, and he got into the act with Jaymar Johnson twice on Monday. Johnson, one of the team's fastest players, ran past cornerback Marcus Walker along the sideline and Rosenfels hit him in stride about 50 yards downfield. Johnson hauled in a 40-yard pass in the second practice. Phil Loadholt has been undergoing trial by fire as the 2nd round pick has been playing right tackle with the first team and facing the first team defense. Coaches appear to be satisfied with his progress. "He learns every rep, that's what I love about him," head coach Brad Childress said. " ... It's great that he's getting all these turns against some premium rushers."
Remianen
Loadholt is going to be a MONSTER. There's no way a man that big should have feet that quick. Working against Jared Allen and the two Williams' is only going to make him a monster the much quicker. I'll be watching to see if they install the old Redskins Counter Trey, pulling Phil like the 'Skins used to do with Jim Lachey.

B) I think that anyone that contemplates retirement after 1 year should not done a jersey ever. C) the way McDaniels handled this entire offseason was horrible. D) I loathe Orton, and do NOT care for Simms, Brandstater is the only good one in my book (but is a rookie). E) I would love that trade.
machinesxe
New York Giants Went to opening day with my son yesterday and had a blast. Everyone looks good and can't wait for Thursday in which we have a field pass to check it out up and close. We also will be going another dozen or so times so I will update you as information becomes available. I love the fact that the Giants training camp is only 20 minutes away from me... ACCBiggz
I think that anyone that contemplates retirement after 1 year should not done a jersey ever. What gives you the right to tell someone when they can be done doing their job? Various circumstances come in to play. But no one should be telling anyone when they should stop doing their job. Everyone is different and has different reasons. I have problems with people who keep playing when their heart isn't in it and they just do it for a pay check, but I definitely don't have a problem with someone who choose to call it quits on their career. slack
Cincinnati Bengals Chad OchoCinco is doing his weird ustream show when they aren't practicing. Palmer missed a few practices with an illness and Tight End Reggie Kelley is out for the season. Look out for Bernard Scott (rookie RB) getting lots of buzz as well as Andre Smith not being there. But this might be the biggest story at camp so far, thanks to my friends at Whodey Revolution. http://www.whodeyrevolution.com/whodeyrevolution/2009/08/project-mayhem-task-9-wdr-invades-georgetown-part-two.html#more

Remianen
A) Knowshon is a prima donna. A) duh. Most young, talented backs are. B) I dunno. It's well within his rights and he really has no reason to stick around, given his performance (or lack thereof). The only problem I have with it is if he decides he wants to come back. THAT could be disastrous as most players would then question his commitment. That can be more drama and pressure than a person should have to deal with after a layoff period. C) Again, no one would argue that a rookie coach who comes in and ticks off the franchise QB and then trades him to a team that (arguably) only needs a top-flight QB in order to compete for the conference title, and then peeves the remaining established star receiver, is doing something right. McDaniels had better get results and FAST or he's going to have that entire region looking for his head. Don't see how he can get results with defense that's as aged as it is porous. D) Sorry, people said the same thing about Chris's father. Gee, wonder how that turned out. The kid is smart, he's tough, and he's got tools. Orton couldn't beat out a self-proclaimed moron in Chicago. McDaniels' system is known for placing a premium on intelligence at the quarterback position. You have to make reads FAST and make smart decisions. Now, consider Rex Grossman's tenure in Chicago. Was he smart? Now, what's that say about Orton when he couldn't outdo Rex? Brandstater has done (nickname for Richard) in the NFL. Let's see how he does in the first quarter of a preseason game (with the first team offense, against the opponents' first team defense) before anointing him as 'the best QB of camp'. E) So would Carolina if they weren't so clueless (Julius wants Haynesworth guarantee money) What gives you the right to tell someone when they can be done doing their job? Various circumstances come in to play. But no one should be telling anyone when they should stop doing their job. Everyone is different and has different reasons. I have problems with people who keep playing when their heart isn't in it and they just do it for a pay check, but I definitely don't have a problem with someone who choose to call it quits on their career. Problem is, if he comes back, he's going to have a lot to deal with that's not directly football related. Problem is, now he has to retire because Pandora's Box is open. He'll have a lot of teammates questioning his commitment (and his heart) unless he's dealing with something like a seriously ill spouse/family member/child or emotional issues (see: Chamique Holdsclaw), in which case he'll be lauded. Otherwise, just dropping retirement hints when you're not even spitting distance from 30, with the career performance he has, is giving him the 'attention whore' label. But now, even if he doesn't retire, he's going to have sports anchors, commentators, and fans who will say he probably should have, every time he gets beat in coverage or stomped by a lineman on a sweep. That is, assuming he even makes the team to begin with (which isn't a sure thing).
CQI13
The same could be said about Vince Young (though he should do us all a favor and just be gone). I certainly wouldn't miss him.
Remianen
The same could be said about Vince Young (though he should do us all a favor and just be gone). I certainly wouldn't miss him. This is true. Vince has lost that locker room, which is death for a position that's supposed to be the leader of one-third of the team (and the face of the franchise). It's not totally his fault though. If you look at his background, the man has never failed at this game at any level. Because of his talent, he's always been given a pass. Never had to face any real adversity that someone couldn't cover up for him. That kind of person gets to the NFL and gets yanked or benched and it's like his whole life was a lie or something. "Earn a starting job? What? Do you know who I am?"

I'm not arguing the potential ramifications if he were to retire and then possibly come back, I'm simply asking NickC what gives him the right to tell anyone when to retire. If someone wants to retire at any point, that's their own personal decision that probably has various factors to it.

I am sorry, I did not write anything that stated I was telling him to retire, I don't even know if the story about him is true. I understand what you are saying, and I respect it, but too me, it seems wrong for someone who plays in the NFL to simply call it quits after one season. NEWS FLASH! you're a ROOKIE, you are meant to play second, or third, fiddle in most teams that year. I understand if you retire due to injury, but don't retire, after one year, that your heart isn't in it due to playing second fiddle (after being the "big dog" on campus.) Prophet
Just north near Toga. Ahh, nice area up there. Back to the topic at hand, the G-men have not only cleared the distraction of impending court cases, as it pertains to Antonio Pierce, but they resigned Eli Manning to a 6 year extension, eliminating another series of questions that could haunt them throughout the season.
