GLORY 15 Fight for Glory (December 11, 2010)

Opening Match

Featherweight

Baret Yoshida vs. Justin Smitley

Round 1

Justin Smitley quickly moves toward Yoshida and fires off some quick jabs. Smitley throws another punch, but Yoshida ducks and shoots in for a takedown. Smitley uses determination to block it, but Yoshida forces Smitley to pull guard!

Yoshida gets in half-guard, but Smitley keeps Yoshida clinched in so that he can't be exposed to any strikes. The ground game leads to a stalemate with both fighters neutralizing any kind of transition attempt.

The two continue to fight for ground supremacy, but neither wins the war. The fans are expecting a match restart, but the bell sounds and the round is over.

Yoshida wins with takedown points.

Round 2

Smitley tries firing off a jab, but it doesn't hit Yoshida. Yoshida wants to go for a takedown, but Smitley fires off some strikes that cause Yoshida to re-think his plan. There's some typical circling, but Smitley is tired of the inactivity and catches Yoshida in the side with a kick.

Smitley attempts another jab that completely misses Yoshida. Yoshida tries striking back, but only ends up eating a jab from Smitley. Yoshida tries stepping in, but catches some bombs that end up forcing him against the ropes!

Smitley begins firing off and Yoshida is eating them all. Yoshida topples over to his knees and the referee steps in to separate the fighters. Smitley just came back and won the fight!

Winner via TKO - Justin Smitley at 4:15 in the Second Round (Good)

Second Match

Heavyweight

Chad Griggs vs. Neil Wain

Round 1

Wain begins with the point scoring by hitting Griggs with a few punches, that Griggs can't stop. Griggs tries evening the score with a leg kick, but Wain steps away and chops at Griggs calf with his own kick. Griggs tries responding with a slow jab that Wain completely avoids.

Halfway into the round, Griggs manages to stuff a takedown attempt from Wain. There's little distance between the two due to the failed takedown and this allows Griggs to fire shots off on Wain. Wain covers up and jabs at Griggs. So much for trying to take advantage of the situation.

The two end up grappling, but the bell sounds and thus, the grapple is released.

The only action in the fight came from Wain.

Round 2

Wain steps toward Griggs. The intention is obvious: Wain wants to wrestle. Griggs doesn't seem to agree with the notion and thus steps away from Wain. That doesn't stop Wain from moving in and while Griggs continuously backs away, he ends up backed into the ropes.

With Griggs having no where to go, Wain clinches in a Muay Thai clinch. Wain fires off a knee, but Griggs blocks. Wain continues to throw lighter knees, but Griggs keeps his arms up and blocks all of them.

The bell sounds and Griggs is saved.

Wain took care of the round.

Round 3

Griggs eats a jab. Griggs tries throwing a punch, but eats a jab. There's speculation from Renallo if Griggs can stand up with Wain, and Griggs solidifies that speculation by retreating to keep Wain out of reach.

Griggs throws some super slow punches that come no where near close to even hitting Wain. With neither fighter having nothing left in the gas tank, Wain is able to grab Griggs with a grapple. Griggs ends up smothered against the ropes, this spells trouble.

Wain struggles to get Griggs to the ground, but Griggs is too tired to fight it for long. Wain is too tired to advance, and before he can get anywhere on the ground, the bell sounds. Renallo comments on their cardio and says they'll need to work on that if they want to last with the other Heavyweights.

Wain takes the final round.

Judges Scores - 30-27 - Wain, 30-27 - Wain, 30-27 - Wain

Winner via Unanimous Decision - Neil Wain at 5:00 in the Third Round (Poor)

Third Match

Light Heavyweight

Martin Desilets vs. Chuck Grigsby

Round 1

From the opening minutes, the two fire off shots at each other, with Martin Desilets landing only one jab. The jab stuns Grigsby and Desilets starts firing off faster, stronger punches that forces Grigsby cover up and back away.

Desilets doesn't give though and continues firing shots. A couple of punches hit Grigsby, and he ends up falling to the mat. Desilets steps over him and lands some more punches, but Grigsby is surviving them. This guy has heart!

Desilets gets into Grigsby's half-guard and fires a few more punches, but they don't have the same venom that they had before. Grigsby manages to fight from the bottom and pushes Desilets back into his guard. Excellent ground work from Grigsby.

Desilets continues firing at Grisby from the guard, but Grigsby catches an arm and manages to roll through and get side control. Grigsby fires off a knee, but the bell sounds and the round is over.

An excellent round for Desilets.

Round 2

Desilets fires off on Grigsby that Grigsby nullifies with a clinch. Desilets takes control of the clinch and breaks away before hitting Grigsby with another jab. Grigsby doesn't want Desilets striking to take him off his feet again and so he fires back and then follows with a takedown. The takedown is stuffed and they end up clinched again!

The clinch is broken again, and Grigsby tries going for a kick, but eats a two jabs. Desilets continues to outstrike Grigsby, but Grigsby does manage to hit Desilets with a crisp jab. For the most part though, Grigsby is easy pickings.

Grigsby begins playing keep away with Desilets. And though the fans don't approve, it's at least saving him from taking any unnecessary damage. The bell sounds and the fighters return to their corners.

Desilets wasn't as impressive as last round, but he definitely takes this one.

Round 3

Grigsby tries opening up with some strikes, but catches a pretty strong kick to the ribs. They start exchanging strikes, but the fire from the first round just isn't there and so it doesn't provide any kind of excitement.

Grigsby lowers to his guard and pushes against Desilets for a takedown. Desilets clinches in and manages to force Grigsby to fight back up to his feet. The two separate and begin circling, with neither doing much in the way of attacking.

With the clock grinding down, Grigsby manages to get in arms reach with Desilets and he ends up taking Desilets to the mat with a single-leg. Grigsby has no trouble getting into side control, but there's only sixty seconds left. Will Grigsby be able to do anything?

He moves to the mount...

And the answer is

...

No, the bell sounds and the fight is over. Talk about saved by the bell!

Grigsby finally manages to win a round.

Judges Scores - 29-28 - Desilets, 29-28 - Desilets, 29-28 - Desilets

Winner via Unanimous Decision - Martin Desilets at 5:00 in the Third Round (Decent)

Match Four

Welterweight

David Faulkner vs. Fabricio Monteiro

First Round

Monteiro convinces Faulkner to keep his distance by throwing out a couple of warning jabs. Faulker throws a couple of air jabs himself before rushing into Monteiro and forcing him into the ropes. Faulker keeps his arms hooked around Monteiro's legs and manages to score a takedown.

With Faulkner immediately getting half-guard, he immediately throws some light strikes into Monteiro. Though they aren't crazy powerful, the first couple of blows at least force Monteiro into covering up. Monteiro is able to look past the strikes and keep Faulker's leg pinned down. At the same time though, Faulkner doesn't allow Monteiro to get back into full-guard.

Faulkner gives up on advancing his position and throws a couple of punches at Monteiro. Faulkner can't seem to reach to a knockout punch and soon after the bell sounds and the first round is over with.

Faulkner has his name all over this round.

Round 2

Faulkner catches Monteiro with a nice combination, but can't follow up with the takedown he was wanting. With Faulkner missing the takedown, Monteiro tries stepping in on a guardless Faulkner and throws a couple of punches. The punches go nowhere as Faulkner manages to slip away.

Monteiro gives chase, but falls right into Faulkner's plan and winds up in a grapple. With little trouble, Faulkner wrestles Monteiro to the mat, but can only get in open guard. Renallo doubts Faulkner will be able to overcome Monteiro on the ground as Monteiro is much more skilled, but you never know.

Renallo's point is proven as Faulkner can't seem to get out of guard and almost ends up being choked out. Not wanting to be placed in another guillotine, Faulkner rapidly fights for a better position, but Monteiro has no trouble at all keeping him in guard. The clock reaches zero and round two is over with.

Faulkner didn't do much on the ground, but he at least completed a takedown. That puts him ahead on points.

Round 3

Monteiro tries throwing a kick, but Faulkner catches the foot and tries for a single leg. Monteiro manages to slip his foot out of Faulkner's grasp and is saved from another takedown attempt. Monteiro doesn't relent and tries for a leg kick, but Faulkner counters with a punch.

The two circle around, but with much of no where to go, Monteiro is forced into grappling with Faulkner. Faulkner presses Monteiro against the ropes and begins smothering him. This makes for a boring round, but with Monteiro not getting much of any offense, this strategy will give Faulkner a freebie round.

Faulkner eventually tries taking Monteiro back to the ground, but Monteiro fights it. He exposes his back from the struggle and this allows Faulkner to slip behind him. Faulkner tries suplexing Monteiro to the mat, but the bell sounds and that's the fight.

Faulkner uses ran down the clock to win the round.

Judges Scores - 30-27 - Faulkner, 30-27 - Faulkner, 30-27 - Faulkner

Winner via Unanimous Decision - David Faulkner at 5:00 in the Third Round (Very Poor)

Match Five

Featherweight

Michihiro Omigawa vs. Len Tam

Round 1

The two run into each other and clinch in. Omigawa keeps Tam close to him to prevent any potential body strikes. Tam gives in and this allows Omigawa to slip out of the grapple and follows up by throwing a jab.

Omigawa and Tam clinch up again and scramble around the ring in a quick wrestling war. Tam ends up backed into the ropes and fires some strikes at Tam. Tam blocks most of them and runs back into Omigawa for another clinch. Omigawa tosses Tam back into the ropes and fires on him some more before catching a nasty counter-punch.

The round rounds up with the two throwing some weak strikes before Omigawa tries to gain the point advantage by taking Tam off of his feet. Tam blocks the takedown and the round is over.

The fight was very back and forth, but me personally, I'm choosing Omigawa.

Round 2

It's Tam's turn for a takedown, but Omigawa manages to throw Tam off balance. Tam is on the mat, but immediately scuffles back to his feet. With Tam back on his feet, the two fighters circle around before Tam fires off a jab Omigawa's way. Omigawa responds with an uppercut, that unfortunately for him, misses its target.

Omigawa stuffs another Tam takedown, and also misses a follow-up uppercut. Tam backs away to allow distance the two Featherweights begin the dreaded circling process. When the fight seems like it's coming to a stall, Omigawa surprises everyone by firing off a flurry of strikes that forces Tam to move away.

Omigawa leaves himself open for a takedown, but he stuffs another one of Tam's attempts. Tam covers up from the failed takedown and his gloves manage to catch a combo of punches from Omigawa. Omigawa clinches with Tam, but the round is over with.

Another round that is hard to call, but I'm saying Omigawa has it.

Round 3

The two fighters slowly step toward one another before circling around the ring. Omigawa throws a jab, and Tam avoids it and catches Omigawa clean on the face with a counter-punch. With Omigawa shaking off the punch, Tam shoots in, but Omigawa catches him and Tam is tossed into the ropes. Tam bounces back from the ropes and goes for a grapple, but Omigawa pushes him off.

Omigawa is tired and this finally allows Tam to take him off of his feet and down to the mat. Tam throws some strikes, but they're deflected by Omigawa's gloves. Tam tries to get to a better position to fire off more precise strikes, but Omigawa keeps him in guard.

Omigawa catches Tam with a guillotine! Tam can't pull his head, but he refuses to tap! Omigawa pulls on it, but Tam doesn't give. The bell sounds and Tam avoids being submitted.

Way too close of a round, but I think Tam did enough to win it.

Judges Scores - 29-28 - Omigawa, 29-28 - Tam, 29-28 - Omigawa

Winner via Split Decision - Michihiro Omigawa at 5:00 in the Third Round (Average)

Match Six

Lightweight

Charles Bennett vs. Naoyuki Kotani

First Round

A straight punch almost makes it lights out for Kotani, but he manages to cover up and his gloves take a large portion of the punch. Bennett tries following up, but a jab from Kotani stops his progression.

Kotani lurks in and out trying to get into the head of Bennett. Kotani finally decides to strike, but another well placed punch once again almost ruins Kotani's chances to win this fight. Kotani eats a jab, but finally traps Bennett into the corner of the ring. Bennett ends up grappled and pulled out of the corner and into the ropes.

Bennett prevents himself from being taken to the mat and begins to weaken Kotani's grasp with some knees to the to the lower stomach. While Bennett lifts his knee for another strike, Kotani moves his leg in and sweeps Bennett to the ground.

The round ends with Kotani firing strikes from the guard that barely do any damage.

The takedown is the one thing that gave Kotani the edge this round.

Second Round

Kotani pushes into Bennett for a takedown, but moves back up and grapples Bennett. Kotani tries throwing some strikes with in the clinch, but Bennett grabs Kotani and muscles him into the ropes. Kotani powers out from the ropes and the grapple is broken. Kotani throws a jab Bennett's way, but Bennett moves away.

Bennett wards off another takedown, but his stamina is suffering as a result, whereas Omigawa still looks relatively fresh. Kotani throws a roundhouse kick that keeps Bennett back. The kick does its job and Bennett settles for just circling with Kotani.

Kotani peppers Bennett with a jab and tries to follow up with some grappling. The bell sounds and that smothers any further action.

Bennett put up a better fight.

Round 3

There's some grappling at the beginning of the round, that Bennett manages to take control of. Kotani manages to pull out but almost eats some strikes. Bennett doesn't let off and runs in throwing some more punches, but Kotani fires off some strikes too to neutralize Bennett's movements.

There's a decent display of stand up at the 2:30 mark with both fighters scoring some nice jabs on one another. Neither fighter unloads any big punches, but for the remainder of the round the two remain on their feet in a striking game that only ends in a stalemate.

If I had to choose, I'd say Bennett.

Judges Scores - 30-27 - Kotani, 29-28 - Kotani, 29-28 - Kotani

Winner via Unanimous Decision - Naoyuki Kotani at 5:00 in the Third Round (Average)

Co-Main Event

Heavyweight

Ricco Rodriguez vs. Semmy Schilt

Round 1

The round opens up with some heavy strikes, but neither Rodriguez or Schilt are hurt. The striking leads to a clinch where Rodriguez tries to muscle Schilt into the ropes. From the ropes, Rodriguez tries to show off his wrestling skill by taking Schilt into the mat. Schilt manages to pull Rodriguez back up and against the ropes.

Schilt looks to strike in on Rodriguez, but Ricco counters with a jab that looked painful. Schilt immediately responds with his own nasty jab! They go back into exchanging some strikes, but once again, neither fighter is fazed.

Schilt hits Rodriguez with a nice hook and then clinches in with the Heavyweight. Rodriguez manages to trip Schilt to the mat from the clinch. Rodriguez throws some elbows at Schilt, but Schilt manages to shift his head to avoid most of them. Schilt gets saved by the bell and the round comes to an end.

Once the fight went to the ground, it was all Rodriguez.

Round 2

Both fighters succeed with some quick jabs, but Rodriguez manages to see through a follow-up punch and hit Schilt with a series of punches. Schilt's cut, but it doesn't look like it's bleeding much.

Schilt misses a punch, and Rodriguez tries to take advantage of it with a takedown. Rodriguez catches a punch while shooting in, but his gloves are able to absorb most of it. There's another clinch and Rodriguez remains by firing some rabbit punches onto the stomach and ribs of Schilt.

The two fighters separate and we have a classic MMA stand-off. They move into each other for some offense, but the bell sounds and both fighters move past each other and into their corners.

Schilt isn't looking too good tonight.

Round 3

There's another clinch and Schilt is at the ropes. Schilt tries to block it with a standing guillotine, but Rodriguez drops him to the mat with a nice double leg. Ricco is in side-control. I honestly doubt he'll be able to get further than this, but it's a nice position regardless. No wait, Ricco gets side control!

Ricco mounts Schilt and fires elbows into Schilt, Schilt has another cut, this time just above the eye. Rodriguez doesn't seem to care and he continues to fire off elbows, but only a couple of them manage to land anywhere.

Rodriguez trades in the elbows and begins unloading punches on Schilt. Schilt continues to cover up, but if he can't get out of the mount, he'll find himself in a world of hurt. Schilt manages to roll out from under Rodriguez, but only gives up his back in the process.

Rodriguez tries locking in an armbar, but before he can complete it, the round is over.

Rodriguez destroyed Schilt.

Judges Scores - 30-26 - Rodriguez, 30-26 - Rodriguez, 30-26 - Rodriguez

Winner via Unanimous Decision - Ricco Rodriguez at 5:00 in the Third Round (Decent)

Main Event

Lightweight

Andre Amade vs. Cristiano Marcello

Round 1

The two push into each other, Marcello tries for a takedown, but Amade moves his legs away and tries hooking Marcello for a takedown. Marcello also manages to move his legs and the two have to settle for a clinch-up.

Marcello tries for a slam, but this just leads to a quick wrestling match that allows Amade to take control. Amade hits Marcello with some strikes from the grapple and then breaks up the clinch. Marcello tries shooting in for a takedown, but eats a punch that dizzies him!

Amade steps in, but gets caught off-guard when Marcello recovers and takes control of Amade with a grapple. Marcello tries numerous things: dirty boxing, slamming, takedowns. But none of them seem to work against 'Andre Dida'. Marcello eventually gives up the grapple.

Sixty seconds left on the clock and Amade rocks Marcello again with an uppercut. Marcello doesn't give and manages to chop at Amade's leg with a kick. The bell sounds and both fighters head to their corners, 'Andre Dida' has a look of confidence on his face.

Andre rocked Marcello not once, but twice.

Round 2

Right off the bat, 'Dida' catches Marcello with a punch. Marcello takes the punch like a champion and tries closing in on the distance between himself and 'Dida', but Amade delivers a kick to the inside of Marcello's knee.

After a few runs of trial-and-error, Marcello finally manages to clinch in with Amade and scoop him over with a takedown. 'Dida's' takedown defense is incredible though and he ends up making a fool of Marcello.

The rest of the round is none to exciting, with Marcello still trying to figure out ways to get the fight to the floor. His tries are, of course, unsuccessful as 'Dida' is just better in every way. Renallo even begins to think Masvidal might be in trouble in a future encounter with the Brazilian.

The round ends on a pretty disappointing note, but Andre Amade still leaves the crowd impressed.

I'm sorry Marcello, but kiss your title shot opportunities goodbye.

Round 3

Amade prevents Marcello from getting too close by peppering him with some jabs. Marcello takes the punishment and gains a reward, as he now has 'Dida' against the ropes. No wait, Amade somehow mananes to take control of the grapple! Amade fires off on Marcello, but Marcello pushes through and strikes back!

The two are now back in the center of the ring and are circling each other. There's some light, slow striking from the two fighters. Marcello misses with a hook, and 'Dida' misses with a straight punch. They look like they're tiring out. This could make for a disappointing round.

Marcello sloppily moves in for a grapple, but 'Dida' pushes him away. Marcello responds by firing off a kick that just chops at Amade's leg. The bell sounds and the fight is over. Fatigued stopped an otherwise exciting fight.

'Dida' remains undefeated in GLORY

Judges Scores - 29-28 - Dida, 29-28 - Dida, 29-28 - Dida

Winner via Unanimous Decision - Andre 'Andre Dida' Amade at 5:00 in the Third Round (Decent)

I really enjoy reading the diary keep it up! Had some questions like after 2 W's is Ricco getting a title shot? With Justin Smitley TKOing fools is he getting his title shot. Sucks that "Krazy Horse" can't get a win, and nice pick up with Gegard Mousasi.

Ricco Rodriguez is being used like UFC uses Heath Herring. Any Heavyweight that seems to be on a roll will have to face off with Rodriguez before I decide to give them title contention. As far as Rodriguez himself goes, until the Lashley vs. Silva saga comes to an end, he's not being considered for title contention.

The same can't be said about Smitley. If he can pick up a couple of more wins, a title shot is in his future.

GLORY FC News - December, 2010

Major Signings

GLORY FC has managed to acquire some big name talent for their upcoming shows. Jeff 'The Snowman' Monson(HW)(34-8-0) has signed on for three fights in 2011. 'The Brazilian Killa' Alex Stiebling(LHW)(18-13-1) has joined the Light Heavyweight ranks. Famous UWFi catch-wrestler, Kiyoshi Tamura(HW)(33-15-2) has announced that he will fight three fights in GLORY. Tamura is considered a legend in Japan, and thus will certainly bring more mainstream spotlight to the company.

Co-Main Event Announced for January Event

At GLORY 16: New Sun, a main event featuring the debut of Gegard Mousasi taking on Antonio Mendes was announced. In addition to that two exciting Lightweight fighters will make their debuts in the co-headlining fight with Maximo Blanco taking on Luciano Azevedo.

Sakuraba has reportedly told the Japanese press that GLORY 16 is good to go. We suggest checking out the GLORY website for any updates on the official fight card.

GLORY Scheduled In February

Last year, the GLORY FC staff to the month of February off to recoup their roster. With the recent explosion and popularity, GLORY looks to have twelve events this year.

In February, Saitama will play host to GLORY 17: The Fury. The previously signed fighters Kiyoshi Tamura and Antoni Hardonk will headline the event in some capacity while Alexandre Ribeiro looks to continue his streak against former Light Heavyweight title contender, Mike Ciesnolevicz. Other than that, no further information has been released.

Faulkner to Start Fighting At Lightweight

Jim Wallhead has been very vocal about not wanting to fight fellow training partner and good friend David Faulkner. However, with both fighters on a winning streak in GLORY's Welterweight Division, you would think it would have to happen eventually.

We received word from Faulkner's camp this morning that David Faulkner looks to nullify the situation by cutting weight and fighting at the Lightweight weight class. The memo stated that Faulkner has been exercising non-stop and should be ready to go in three months time.

The effort involved a long struggle, but Von Flue managed to deny High's takedown at the end. High shrugged it off and began circling with Von Flue. This was Von Flue's first mistake...

From the stand-up game, High was picking Von Flue apart. Von Flue is finally finding his rhythm and it's showing, High's eating punches left and right.

Whatever comeback Von Flue was making, High manages to nullify by firing off some rapid fire strikes that forces Von Flue into defending. Von Flue tries throwing a counter punch, but at this point, High shoots in for a takedown and thanks to Von Flue's strike attempt, manages to get the takedown with little difficulty.

High is the kind of fighter that seems to be trying to re-invigorate the ground n pound method. Instead of trying to get mount or even side control, High begins to grind Von Flue away with elbows in the open guard. Von Flue has to find a way to stop them or this fight is over.

Von Flue finally covers up before clinching with High in an effort to distort High's breath pattern. An arm of Von Flue's wraps around High's neck. There's a guillotine attempt, but High manages to slip out. High throws a couple of jabs at Von Flue, but he hits next to nothing. For whatever reason, Von Flue tries showboating by switching stances and throwing a very awkward punch. High responds by jabbing Von Flue pretty cleanly.

If there's anything you have to give Von Flue credit for, it's his wrestling ability, because Jason High tries taking him down once more, but cannot get the Welterweight off of his feet. If Von Flue was better at his stand-up, High would be in trouble...

...However that's not the case and High avoids a jab and explodes on Von Flue. He opens up by hitting Ramirez with some decent jabs and then follows it up by a looping punch. Ramirez tries to retaliate, but Vantinnen steps out of range before firing off at Ramirez.

The two centered around the ring and Ramirez continued his defensive game to prevent Vantinnen from catching him off-guard, ala Antonio Mendes. Vanntinen takes this opportunity to shoot in for a takedown. Ramirez is not good on his back as seen in his fights with Lew Polley and Alexandre Ribeiro. Through some unseeable spirit or sheer luck, Ramirez manages to fight off the takedown attempt.

So we're back to a stand-up game, and Vantinnen continues to go to work on Ramirez. Ramirez finally sees an opportunity and stings Vantinnen with a jab. Like a shark after blood, Ramirez pushes in. He fires off three rights and two lefts and drops Vantinnen to the mat. Vantinnen immedialy positions himself into guard, figuring Ramirez will continue his onslaught. Ramirez must've discovered that patience is a virtue as he remains standing, waiting for the referee to ask Vantinnen to get back to his feet.

Vantinnen stands up and the bell sounds, ending a very exciting round.

I honestly don't think Ramirez round closing performance was enough to give this one to him.

Round 2

The fighters come out for some more stand-up. Wallhead has other plans and begins firing off on Chambers who, as a result, has to back away.

Chambers exposes his one-dimensionality as he constantly shoots in for takedowns, even with Wallhead blocking one after the other. This ultimately slows down the fight as Wallhead has to stop his striking so that he can efficiently prevent himself from being taken down and Chambers...well Chambers keep shooting.

Chambers has finally either given up or has gotten tired as the fight continues on their feet. Chambers tries for a very obvious jab and Wallhead fires back with a low kick to the leg of Chambers. Massouh must have iron longs, the clinch didn't tire him out or strain his breathing. In fact, once Riley released the clinch for some striking, Massouh began to fire off on him. Though, none of the strikes cleanly hit, it neutralized Riley's striking.

Riley stepped back in to smother Massouh against the ropes. Unfortunately for Massouh, his grappling wasn't good enough to stop Riley's point-scoring tactic. Riley stepped back once more, but like last time Massouh's breathing was not disrupted from the clinch and he tries sweeping Riley out from under his feet with a low-kick. Riley manages to avoid it, but the round ends before he can follow through with anything.

Riley successfully had Massouh in his control and managed to ride the clock.

Round 3

Ranallo calls Massouh a cardio monster as Riley is looking huffed and puffed, despite being the one riding the clock for some point scoring.

We start off with another clinch that leads into rope control from Riley. That's probably the best reason to follow Heavyweights. They display punching power early on, which always makes for a potential knock-out.

Neither fighter seems to really take dominant control of the striking game and this leads to a sloppy clinch. The fighters push each other around the ring, but an inside knee to Gan McGee decreases his struggle and Ben Rothwell manages to take McGee to the ropes.

Expected clock grinding turns into a takedown attempt from Rothwell, and while McGee resists the takedown, he does manage to give up his back. He does manage to keep McGee clinched in, but in mere seconds the two and Rothwell somehow, someway gets side control.

Ranallo figures Rothwell as a striker and thinks McGee better cover up to prevent a fury of fists from ending the fight.
