Moderndaywarrior
@GateControlTheory I like the game, in fact, I'll be canceling my wow account tonight (been playing wow since the first day it was released) but I do understand people's anger over the nerfs. Since I first started playing MMO's in 2000, I've always felt Nerfs were an extremely short sighted way of fixing problems. If there is some class/skills/combination of whatever that is great at some aspect of the game. Why not bring everything else up to that level, instead of knocking it down. Yeah I know its quicker, less expensive, etc. But I've never paid 15 bucks a month to expect less of something. That isn't to say that some of the complaints aren't silly. But following the discussion at the FoH board (a forum for hardcore MMO players) there is some legitimate concern that CO is maybe turning from the Hero paradigm in gameplay to more of the classical triumverate Healer/Tank/DPS, which would be bad, as their are plenty of games out there that implement that framework much better. Welcome to the zoo. Been doing MMO's since about 2000 myself(the days when Verant released EQ patches that made half the playerbase crash on zoning then told us it wasn't them,it was our computers....then quietly released a hotfix that corrected the problem). CO is as a crossroads right now;it could go either way....I'm hoping for(and it seems they are still leaning towards) the 'open' concept staying, perhaps just a bit more sensibly implemented. praguepride
Silly question, but how do you send friend invites to people you don't know character names for? I've been sending them to @blah but I don't know if they're going anywhere... How can you find characters based on handles? edit: nevermind... apparently it works!? Moderndaywarrior
more 'spot the reference' stuff: Sheriff Robo - it's a stretch but may be a play on 'BJ and the Bear' Sheriff Lobo(i think later he had his own show) Cpatain Video Video and Game Rentals - A shop in MC, reference to Captain Video and his Video Rangers(classic sci-fi show for kids from the early 50's) Monster Island - Zone in CO.....In the Godzilla movies, Monster Island is the place in the future where all the world's giant monsters(Godzilla,Mothra,Rodan,Anguirus,Ghidrah, and so on) are herded to then left to roam unbothered to to keep them from destroying cities;it is the setting for the classic movie "Destroy All Monsters!"(Which was referenced on the PS with the game "Destroy All Humans!") Purple Cowboy
I finally got back in last night and got Jim Surge a couple of bars away from lvl 10. Wow the desert is huge I'm liking it! I also had my butt handed to me several times doing that Hero cage match quest! I think my stats for all 3 matches were 1 kill, killed 5 times! The other team seemed to be very organized, they would use two flying guys to herd us into an ambush of their other 3 guys together who would just rip us apart. It was like the soldiers marching towards the cannons during the U.S. Civil War. That experience made me feel like I have no clue what's going on in-game though. Like, maybe I haven't customized my powers properly to be that badly beaten (or maybe I just suck). Some basic questions - what do I use resources for? What should I be doing with my points with a standard electrical character? Was flight a bad travel power to take? Does that even matter?

Like, maybe I haven't customized my powers properly to be that badly beaten (or maybe I just suck). Some basic questions - what do I use resources for? What should I be doing with my points with a standard electrical character? Was flight a bad travel power to take? Does that even matter? From a "Build" perspective, PVP works different than PvE: In PvE just about any concept will work, while in PvP people go specifically for certain powers because they are very strong in PvP,which tends to make most PvP types a step above your "regular" guy in cage matches...ironically for all their effectiveness, it also tend to make them cookie cutter-ish as every heavy PvP build takes the same couple powers. To do well(or at least not get wrecked repeatedly) take your character build into mind....it seems you have a ranged flyer, which can be good for PvP....use your flight to stay out of melee range and away from the other team, then pelt away with your hardest hits, use crowd control if you have it. Resources are used both to buy items like healing patches from certain vendors and to pay for blueprints from your chosen crafting vendor, which let you make different upgrades for your upgrade slots. If you have not started crafting gear yet, work on doing so;you can make yourself some items that give very good boosts to your stats. I believe the "standard" picks for a ranged character would be: Energy Builder Charged Attack AoE Attack Crowd Control abilities if available Defensive Passive(i.e.Invulnerability,Regeneration,Defiance,etc. and the like;pick the one that works good with your stats, right now Regen tends to work the best) Block Upgrade(whichever power it is that adds an effect to your block,it increases the damage resistance when you block as well) The safe bet for advantage points would be to just upgrade the rank of the power, the other effects can be useful, just to be sure to read very carefully what they do before choosing any of those. Flight is a good travel power for ranged characters since it lets you maneuver in 3 dimensions;being able to sit above the enemies and shoot can be a life saver...if it goes bad gain alt until you are safe. praguepride
Grey Dog Society is up and running, in game contact these people for admission. There's currently 4 levels of membership (recruit, member, officer, leader) The 5 founders will be the leaders, GDS memebers will start off as members and can get promoted to officer or leader depending on activity and contribution. Contact myself (Dark Cypher@prague_pride) for recruitment. Send me a message or a friend invite or something, post it in this thread and I'll sign you up and promote you to the appropriate level. I'm thinking we'll be renaming the membership levels to match the rankings on GDS (Rookie, Phenom,Super Star,Living Legend)

Craig Edwards
for some reason i got bored with this game after the first few days playing. the game just doesn't feel alive or that big too me. I feel like it was released a bit before they had all the content ready (see critter descriptions comments) but it's a risk/reward type situation where the longer they go before release, the more they're risking sales and being "scooped" by other MMO's (see DC online, sure it's a long ways away but you want to maximize your time in a monopoly). They had to beat Aion to market and they had to do it with enough time to smooth some of the cosmetic rough spots. Aion launches in NA/EU on the 22nd. Three weeks is (usually) long enough to launch and get your core subscribers onboard. As much as I like the game, I think they're going to bleed a lot of potential subs and lose 'em to Aion. Hopefully, most of them will be the PvP centered folks who are mindless and don't know the meaning or significance of 'rock, paper, scissors'. You know the type. 'Regen needs to be nerfed because my healer toon can't kill anyone with that passive'. Duh?

I did the three pvP matches on my Might toon for the quest earlier and it was VERY sad.....it was nothing but a bunch of "nuker" types running around blasting away....and since the melee hard hits are charges that require you to stand perfectly still while they charge, you can imagine how it went lol. Thankfully,I'm the kind of guy that can say "Yeah, you killed me a mess BUT I am only a concept guy I made because I thought it would be neat while the ones that killed me alot are cookie cutter FotM's to do nothing but beat up pretend people in a pretend world then act like it actually matters.....so yeah, you mighta won the match but I'm winning at life."
