Rey Mysterio suspended

Doesn't have to be for steroids btw. Wellness Policy, like many similar ones, classes certain supplements that metabolize in the body a certain way in the same category as traditional PEDs. There's stuff you can walk into GNC right now and buy that, when the body processes it, leads to heightened levels of testosterone in even your body. That's what many tests screen for. Also, some diuretics (whose primary purpose is getting rid of water in the body) raise flags in some of the standard tests.

He could also just be smokin' weed (I thought I read a few years ago that the Wellness Policy covered that?) or taking particularly aggressive dosages of pain medication.

Thought it could also be for any controlled substance that you don't have a valid prescription for.

Honestly, if it's something that stupid, he deserves to be suspended far longer than 30 days. Let's face it, if people didn't know it previously, the whole baseball/Signature Pharmacy/Manny Ramirez/Michael Jackson things should've clued them in. You can get a prescription for anything allowed to be prescribed for any reason. Hell, I can get a script for HGH tomorrow morning, just by asking for it (and no, not from my regular doctor) and paying the price.

I'm pretty sure after Eddie, Benoit, and Angle, they have thresholds set within the policy for milligrams per pound of body weight (or density) that they allow to be in your bloodstream. It can't be a blanket "if you have a valid prescription for it" kinda deal. Benoit taught them that that loophole is big enough to fly the Space Shuttle through.

Edit: Ah right Bull, that's what got Brian Kendrick canned. Paying the fine was nothing as long as you still got to puff the cheeba. :p

How stupid are these people? If it was perscription or 'roids or whatever ...Rey Rey, remember your 'best friend' Eddie Guerrero? Apparently not.

If it was something else then whatever, he should still be suspended, but if its something thats supposedly so close to home, why don't you try learning a lesson.

I am not that surprised actually. Rey Misterio along with Eddie and Konnan were well known for their love of party drugs back in the day in Atlanta. I have witness Rey and Konnan at a rave and they were quite intoxicated and having a grand ole time. I am sure Misterio has grown alot since then however a slip up is not out of the question and very probable. I am not saying that is what he got caught up in again just it is a guess. What if he gets caught with a presciption drug in his system like a pain drug but he doesn't have a known prescription for it so obviously it was taken illegally, Would he be suspended? I am just saying could be alot of things that we ain't thinking of, and I don't think it is our place to judge him. I am not a fan of his work and I have rooted against him for a long time (Dean Malenko was my man!), but I wish him the best.

I like Rey Mysterio Jr. Not necessarily his in-ring work, but his attitude. Despite his relationships with known drug users, Rey always seemed more mellow and in-control than the other two, and much nicer guy to boot.

It makes me wonder he did, though. Had to be something big.

I got the off a wrestling news source.

While this is Mysterio's first violation of WWE's drug testing policy, this isn't the first time his name has been linked to substances of a questionable nature.

On March 19, 2007, the official website of Sports Illustrated posted an article in its continuing series investigating a steroid and HGH ring used by a number of professional athletes in several sports. The article mentioned several current and former WWE wrestlers — including Mysterio — as being tied to the ring. David Wilbirt, an Arizona doctor, allegedly issued prescriptions for the anabolic steroids nandrolone (also known as Deca-Durabolin) and stanozolol (also known as Winstrol) to Mysterio over the Internet between November 2004 and April 2005. Wilbirt had been investigated by the Drug Enforcement Agency from 2001 to 2005 for allegedly writing 3,879 prescriptions between November 2004 and April 2005, all for "patients" who had requested drugs over the Internet.

WWE later made a statement on the situation, mentioning that the allegations preceded the drug testing program the company launched in February 2006. Through WWE, Mysterio declined commenting on the allegations to Sports Illustrated.

Mysterio's name would once again be linked to a shady doctor later that year following the Chris Benoit double murder and suicide. On this occasion, his name was being linked to the federal investigation of Benoit's physician, Dr. Phil Astin III. He was later sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his conviction on illegally dispensing prescription drugs to 17 patients from 2002 until his arrest in 2007. One of the patients he was arrested for improperly dispensing medications to was "O.G.", which happens to be the initials of Mysterio's real name, Oscar Gutierrez. It was later confirmed by ABCNews.com that "O.G." was indeed WWE wrestler Rey Mysterio. In the indictment filed against Astin, it was disclosed that "O.G." had been prescribed 120 Percosets, 150 Lorcets and refills allowed for 450 more Lorcets on June 28, 2006. He received a similar level of medication a few weeks later on July 20, 2006. He was listed as having only made those two visits to Astin. Since he lives in Chula Vista, California, he saw Astin less frequently than the other other wrestlers in question, who all lived in the Atlanta area with the exception of one.

After all this, it still doesn't answer the real question of what he failed for. It gives us a nice idea tho.

Rey Mysterio discussed his 30-day suspension from WWE in an interview with the newspaper Record in Mexico. Mysterio claimed he was suspended for a drug he was using for his both his knee and arm, which he has a prescription for. Mysterio said he was away on vacation and in the UK promoting SummerSlam, noting he was not informed of his drug test failure until Wednesday. He was told to provide proof of prescription by Thursday, but was unable to meet the deadline, thus resulting in a suspension.

Mysterio will begin serving his 30-day suspension next Wednesday.

Kind of expected something like this.

If that last bit is true.... should there maybe not some way for them to say "Hey (insert name here), My doctor prescribed me this, here is the note when he starts taking it? Especially with the strict rules on the policy?

While, if true, it seems to be a bad break for Rey... he should be smart enough to have given someone in authority the heads up that he was taking something that could come up negatively.
