News - Cutting Edge: Pro Wrestling adds Tag Match to "USA vs The World"!

Posted by Larry Csonka on 09.28.2009

If you thought that Tag Team wrestling is dead, think again! Cutting Edge is proud to bring Tag Team Wrestling back into the wrestling world.

At "USA vs The World", two former tag teams will re-form and collide to make their mark in our Tag Division.

Joey Matthews & Christian York will take on Team Canada's Petey Williams & Johnny Devine!!

<img src="http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu47/TDMMA/cew/wrestling/ChristianYork.jpg"><img src="http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu47/TDMMA/cew/wrestling/JoeyMatthews2.jpg">

Representing USA

Matthews & York

Matthews & York were trained by fellow wrestler Jimmy Cicero and made their wrestling debut in October 1996. The following year, they began competing for Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation (MEWF), in which they began competing in tag team competition, where they captured the MEWF Tag Team Championship.

Throughout the mid-1990s, Matthews & York competed in various independent promotions untill landing in ECW. The two struggled in the land of Extreme, unable to make any real impact.

Once ECW closed, Joey Matthews signed a WWE contract and went onto forming MNM.

Representing Canada

Team Canada

In 2004, wrestling promoter and personality "Coach" Scott D'Amore brought together fellow Canadians to form his own incarnation of Team Canada in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) for the 2004 America's X-Cup Tournament.

The original team was composed of Teddy Hart as team captain, with Jack Evans, Johnny Devine, and Petey Williams as his teammates. When the World X-Cup was announced, the team was revamped to add power to the speed and agility in the previous incarnation of the team. Petey Williams would replace Hart as team captain, Johnny Devine would remain on the team, and Eric Young and Bobby Roode would be added to the team. The team made it to the Ultimate X finals, but lost to Team USA (Jerry Lynn, Chris Sabin, Christopher Daniels and Elix Skipper).

Following the 2004 World X-Cup Tournament, Team Canada became the only team that stayed together in TNA afterward, and went on to win the tag team titles twice. Captain Petey Williams also won the TNA X Division Championship.

News - Cutting Edge: Pro Wrestling adds Cruiserweight Match to "USA vs The World"!

Posted by Larry Csonka on 09.29.2009

Cruiserweight Wrestling is not a joke and we're here to prove it!

Cutting Edge is proud to showcase some of the greatest Cruiserweights from across the globe.

At "USA vs The World", Paul London will go one-on-one with Sonjay Dutt in what might be the show-stealer of the night!

<img src="http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu47/TDMMA/cew/wrestling/SonjayDutt.jpg">

Representing India

Sonjay Dutt

Dutt began working for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) on a regular basis in 2004, and participated in the America's X-Cup as a part of Team USA along with Jerry Lynn, Chris Sabin, and Elix Skipper against Team AAA (Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila, Juventud Guerrera, and Abismo Negro). After several months, Dutt became the onscreen protégé of Sabu, with Raven using him to vicariously assault Sabu. In addition, Dutt acted as a mouthpiece for the perpetually mute Sabu. This angle was postponed and then dropped after Sabu was sidelined with various health problems, and in the interim Dutt made appearances with World Wrestling Entertainment, provoking rumors of an imminent contract offer.

On June 7, Dutt introduced a new gimmick reminiscent of a Zen in which he called himself "The Guru" Sonjay Dutt. As part of the gimmick, he began dressing all in white, and apologized to Nash and Lethal for his behavior. At Victory Road, Dutt competed in the 10 man Ultimate X match in an attempt to become the number one contender for the X Division Championship, but was eliminated in the Gauntlet portion of the match.

On February 20, 2009, Dutt left TNA after his contract expired due to he and TNA management being unable to come to terms on a new deal.

<img src="http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu47/TDMMA/cew/wrestling/PaulLondon.jpg">

Representing USA

Paul London

After being trained at the Texas Wrestling Academy, London began competing for Ring of Honor, where although he never won a title, began popular amongst the fans due to his high risk offensive moves. He later competed for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Zero-One, and various independent promotions, winning numerous championships and won the ECWA Super 8 Tournament in 2003.

London made his debut in WWE in late 2003, and immediately began teaming with fellow cruiserweight Spanky (Brian Kendrick). After Kendrick briefly left WWE, London formed a tag team with Billy Kidman, and together they won the WWE Tag Team Championship. After their split, London began competing in the cruiserweight division, and won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. In late 2006, Kendrick returned, and the two reformed as a team. London and Kendrick were previously managed by former WWE Diva, Ashley Massaro, who London has previously dated. The team split when Kendrick was drafted to the SmackDown brand in June 2008, and London was released later that year. In 2009, he returned to the independent ciruit, competing for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, where he has since teamed with Bryan Danielson to form The Hybrid Dolphins

In WWE, London is a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion, World Tag Team Champion, and two-time WWE Tag Team Champion. During his second reign as WWE Tag Team champion, London and his partner, Brian Kendrick, became the longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions since the title's creation

Giant Bernard debut on WWF television on the April 11, 1999 episode of Sunday Night Heat, saving Droz from a beating at the hands of Big Bossman. Bloom was named Prince Albert, and joined a short-lived trio called "the Pierced Pals".[6] He acquired the persona of Droz's personal tattooist. Droz and Albert continued to team together until Droz was paralyzed in October 1999, at which point Albert became the protege of the Big Bossman. The duo separated following the debut of Bull Buchanan, who formed a tag team with the Big Bossman.

He competed in the 2004 Royal Rumble match, but was eliminated by the eventual winner, Chris Benoit. When Benoit decided to compete against Triple H for the World Championship on the Raw brand, General Manager Paul Heyman held a SmackDown! style Royal Rumble where the winner would meet Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at No Way Out. He was eliminated by Eddie Guerrero, who went on to win the match. The alliance with Lesnar ended in March 2004 when Bloom was drafted to the Raw brand.[5] A-Train debuted on Raw on June 7. On June 21, he suffered a torn rotator cuff. Before returning from injury, he was released from his WWE contract on November 1, 2004.

News - Cutting Edge: Pro Wrestling adds another Tag Team Match to "USA vs The World"!

Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.10.2009

2 former WWE wrestlers collide to prove who really is the better Sports Entertainer.

Sean Morley takes on Ken Doane in what will surely be a hard hitting afair!

<img src="http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu47/TDMMA/cew/wrestling/ValVenis.jpg">

Representing Canada

Sean Morley

He began his wrestling training in the early 1990s under the tutelage of Jason and Dewey "The Missing Link" Robertson and debuted on the Canadian independent circuit before making his way to the international circuit, finding work with All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) in Japan, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in Mexico, and World Wrestling Council (WWC) in Puerto Rico. In Japan, he was known as Sean Morgan as the name Morley was difficult to pronounce due to the lack of phonetic differences between the L and R in Japanese. In Mexico, he adopted a robot-like mask and gimmick, changed his name to Steele, and won the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship.

Morley was signed to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1998 and given the gimmick of a (well endowed) porn star named Val Venis. The character was introduced with a series of vignettes that showcased Venis' life style on and off the set, the most notable of these featuring Venis in bed with prominent real-life porn star Jenna Jameson.

<img src="http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu47/TDMMA/cew/wrestling/KenDoane.jpg">

Representing USA

Ken Doane

Doane made his professional wrestling debut in 2001 at the age of fifteen.He started his professional wrestling career in the New England area under the name "Broadway" Kenn Phoenix. He was later trained by professional wrestler and trainer Killer Kowalski. After being contacted by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), he was asked to make appearances for their developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).

Doane made his first national television appearance in WWE at the age of 17 on the May 12, 2003 episode of WWE Raw as Ken Phoenix. Along with his brother, Mike Phoenix, he was a participant in Rodney Mack's ongoing "5-Minute White Boy Challenge" where Mack defeated Caucasian wrestlers in under 5 minutes. Mack defeated the pair in 1:31, forcing them both to submit to his new Blackout finishing hold. He made another appearance, losing to Lance Storm on an episode of Sunday Night Heat before being officially signed to a developmental deal and to OVW full time on June 4, 2004.

After two years in OVW, where he won the Television Championship,Doane debuted on Raw as a member of the Spirit Squad. The Squad became closely associated with The McMahons and feuded with DX, and Ric Flair. Kenny and Mikey won the World Tag Team Championship on the Raw after WrestleMania 22 from Kane and The Big Show. Under the Freebird Rule, any combination of the 5 members could defend the titles. They held the titles for 216 days until they lost them to Flair and Roddy Piper at Cyber Sunday.
