I liked the early pre-Attitude WWF because of the crazy and dumb gimmicks.

WWF Intercontinental Contenders Tournament First Round Match:

Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw vs Ahmed Johnson

I actually liked Ahmed Johnson. He wasn't one of those guys that you could build a federation around, but he was a decent midcarder.

WWF World Tag Team Title Match:

The Godwinns vs The BodyDonnas ©

I don't see the Godwinns winning the titles yet. I wouldn't put it on them period, myself. Unless they have Hillbilly Jim as their manager.

WWF Intercontinental Contenders Tournament First Round Match:

"Wildman" Marc Mero vs The 1-2-3 Kid

Mero is more of a I.C. contender than The Kid.

The Undertaker vs "The Ringmaster" Steve Austin

Possible a DQ victory.

Glad to see you back in business, JJE. Also, props on the Owen Hart avatar.

WWF Intercontinental Contenders Tournament First Round Match:

Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw vs Ahmed Johnson

Ahmed's lots of fun. He's huge, has a mild speech impediment, and is pretty bad in the ring. He was always fun to watch, because he was such a spectacle. Bradshaw's great, but I just can't get behind the Hawk.

WWF World Tag Team Title Match:

The Godwinns vs The BodyDonnas ©

I'm no fan of the BodyDonnas, but the Godwinns are a jobber team, plain and simple.

WWF Intercontinental Contenders Tournament First Round Match:

"Wildman" Marc Mero vs The 1-2-3 Kid

Marc Mero's a bit of a turd, as a human being. The Kid's no saint, but he's got the connections to back up his attitude. He also has a thing called "talent".

The Undertaker vs "The Ringmaster" Steve Austin

If memory serves, it was one month later that Ted Dibiase was forced out, as the Ringmaster's manager. That gives the character some life, that it doesn't have, once he's gone. I always love seeing Austin outside the 'Stone Cold' persona. Regardless, The Undertaker wins this match by a long way.

Me too. This is just about the time when they first started drifting away from gimmicks. Hey, you still doing the joint '91 thing with Greg?

Hey, thanks pal. And what happened to your '91 diary, is it still up and running? I really enjoyed the Rumble and the direction you were headed in for the time. PS: I think you'll like what I got cookin' here.

- The Ultimate Warrior returns.

- The Undertaker defeats Diesel, in an all out war.

- Shawn Michaels finally lives out his boyhood dream, and defeats Bret Hart in a 60-Minute Iron Man Match to become the New WWF Champion.

The cameras roll through the crowd, who are uber-pumped tonight being its the WWF New Year, as they say. Following the mini pyro extravaganza, Vince McMahon and Jerry "The King" Lawler await.

Vince McMahon: Welcome everyone to the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California! Welcome everyone to Monday Night Raw! And what a show we have in store for you tonight, the night after WrestleMania! I'm Vince McMahon and I'm joined by none other than Jerry "The King" Lawler, as we eagerly await the presence of the NEW World Wrestling Federation Champion, Shawn Michaels! King, he did it!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Yeah McMahon, and we're also awaiting the arrivial of a bruised, beaten, and battered Undertaker here tonight, because he's scheduled to go one-on-one with "The Ringmaster" himself, Steve Austin!

Vince McMahon: Yes, and WWF President Gorilla Monsoon has announced an eight-man tournament to determine the number one contender for the WWF Intercontinental Title! And here we go, Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw is on his way down to ringside.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Oh Yeah!

Raw opened up with a first-round match in the IC Title contenders tournament. This was a hard hitting contest between two brutes, but it came to a close when Uncle Zebekiah jumped up onto the apron with his branding iron. Bradshaw then signaled, and went to fire Ahmed towards his manager via irish whip, but Ahmed quickly reversed it, sending Bradshaw into the ropes, causing Uncle Zebekiah to "Brand" his own man! Bradshaw then stumbled right into the Pearl River Plunge! Ahmed picked up the three count, advanced in the tournament and handed Bradshaw his very first loss in the World Wrestling Federation.

Winner: Ahmed Johnson via pinfall.

Vince McMahon: Oh Yeah! Ahmed advances!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: This is a travesty McMahon! He cant hit Uncle Zebekiah like that!

Vince McMahon: What are you talkin' about King? Zebekiah went to brand him!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Ahmed got REAL lucky tonight, McMahon. You and I both know hee dont have the BRAINS to stand a chance in this tournament.

Vince McMahon: Well, be that as it may, Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw suffers his very first defeat tonight at the hands of one, Ahmed Johnson. Alright folks, we're being told that Todd Pettengill is standing by with Hunter Hearst-Helmsley. Take it away Todd.

Todd Pettengill: Thank you gentlemen. I'm standing by here with Hunter Hearst-Helmsley who's coming off an extremely disappointing loss last night to...

Hunter Hearst-Helmsley: Disappointing?!? What happened last night was a Miscarriage Of Justice! As far as the Warrior goes, believe me, he'll get what he's got coming to him. And someone else who has something coming to him is "Wildman" Marc Mero. Mero, you think you can waltz in here and try to humiliate Hunter Hearst-Helmsley on the grandest stage of them all? You put your nose in my business and tried to play hero by ‘rescuing’ the damsel in distress, that lowly wench Sable. Trust me, women such as Sable are a dime a dozen, but Mero, I’m making it my personal responsibility to welcome you to the WWF, and teach you a personal lesson about sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Wow McMahon, seems like that Little Richard look-a-like really opened up pandoras box.

Vince McMahon: Helmsley blaimed that poor woman for his loss, King! She didnt compete in the match.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Yeah well, I cant wait till that no good street punk gets what he has comin' to him.

Vince McMahon: We'll see the "Wildman" in action later on tonight, but right now, YEAH.... Here they come, the Godwinn Family!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Ugh! I knew I recognized that stench from somewhere....

The Godwinns were granted a rematch following last nights WrestleMania effort. They seemed to control most of the match, but it came to its conclusion when Phinneas I. Godwinn had Zip set up for the Slop Drop and Sunny jumped on the apron (just like last night). However, before Phinneas could even see her, Hillbilly Jim hoisted her off the apron on his shoulder, and put her back down on the floor. This caused Sunny to begin screaming at him. This distraction was a costful one however, because Zip escaped the Slop Drop attempt (thanks to Sunnys loud, obnoxious voice) and rolled the big man up, grabbing a handful of tights, saving the WWF Tag Titles for both Sunny and Skip. This left the Godwinns standing in the ring, clearly upset with the outcome.

Winners: The BodyDonnas via pinfall.

Vince McMahon: That.... That no good little witch! She did it again!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Haha! You know what they say... What Sunny wants, Sunny gets! And boy, that Phinneas, he's about as smart as a western omlette McMahon!

Vince McMahon: Oh, stop it King. The Godwinns are just gonna have to live to fight another day.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Well, they're 0 for 2 in the last 24 hours. I'd say that merits them nothing more than one bus ride straight back to the dirtyard they came from.

The Ultimate Warrior Returns To Monday Night RaW!!

Vince McMahon: ...And speaking of The Kid, here he comes.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Yeah! And boy, DiBiase seems a bit happy McMahon, dont ya think?

Vince McMahon: Well, as well he should be. His man Steve Austin was victorious last night at WrestleMania. And now The 1-2-3 Kid could very well be the next number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Not to mention, he could prolly buy Texas with the change in his pocket McMahon!

Vince McMahon: But first he's gotta get by this man! Oh Yeah! Here he comes.... Here comes The Wildman!!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: And look who he's got with him McMahon! The same woman that cost Hunter Hearst-Helmsley his match with The Warrior last night. Boy, he's really askin' for trouble now!

WWF Intercontinental Title Number One Contenders Tournament

The 1-2-3 Kid vs "Wildman" Marc Mero

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/S%20Images/th_Sean_Waltman11.jpg vs http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/M%20Images/th_Marc_Mero4.jpg

This was "Wildman" Marc Meros in-ring debut for the WWF. Mero was impressive in the match, using a good amount of power and speed, and scoring a very near fall with a move called the Merosault, from the top rope. Mero ducked a kick from the Kid and hit him with a devastating samoan drop. "The Wildman" then went up to the top rope again, looking to end the match, but as the Kid distracted the referee on the mat, Hunter Hearst-Helmsley ran down the aisle and cracked his walking cane right over Mero’s back! Mero fell hard to the mat, giving the clear upper hand to The Kid. After hitting The 1-2-3 Kick just for insurance (if nothing else), The Kid scored the pinfall and advanced into to the next round of the tournament. Helmsley took a bow up the aisle, as Sable looked on in distress.

Winner: The 1-2-3 Kid via pinfall.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Hahahaha!! That Marc Mero got exactly what he deserved, McMahon! You dont just waltz in here and mess with Hunter Hearst-Helmsley!

Vince McMahon: What a Rotten individual that man is! Rotten!!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Hey... you cant call a man rotten just for getting even McMahon. Marc Mero should have thought about the Intercontinental Title last night, before he stuck his nose where it didnt belong.

Bye Bye Bret?

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/V%20Images/th_Vince_McMahon10.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/B%20Images/th_Bret_Hart30.jpg

Vince McMahon: Ok folks, joining us right now live from his very own home in Calgary Alberta, Canada is the former World Wrestling Federation Champion, "The Excellence Of Execution" Bret "The Hitman" Hart. Thank you Bret, for joining us.

Bret "Hitman" Hart: Thank you.

Vince McMahon: First off Bret, on behalf of myself, and if I may, every WWF fan across the nation, we'd like to commend you on your outstanding effort last night in the 60-Minute Iron Man Match. It was indeed one of the single greatest matches the World Wrestling Federation has ever seen, hands down. Unfortunately, in the end you came up short and in-turn are no longer the reigning WWF Champion. But it was a...

Bret "Hitman" Hart: Hold on Vince, let me cut you off right there. Shawn Michaels is a great in-ring competitor, and taking nothing away from him, but I went the entire sixty minutes without actually being pinned or forced to submit. Which, last time I checked would fall under a time-limit draw and with that said, I'd still be the WWF Champion. Never in the history of this sport has anyone ever called for a sudden-death overtime period to determine who wins a match, nonetheless a world title. I just wanna state that I dont agree with President Monsoons decision last night, and the fact that I'm not sitting here with the WWF Title hoisted over my shoulder right now... doesnt sit too well with me.

Vince McMahon: I'm sure that it might not, but we all know what kind of competitor The Hitman is, and I'm sure in the not too distant future, we'll see you back in the ring and getting another shot at the WWF Title.

Bret "Hitman" Hart: You know, thats something I'm gonna have to think about. I've worked far too hard, for far too long only to be in my opinion, mistreated by Gorilla Monsoon and by the entire World Wrestling Federation executive committee. What I've decided to do is take some time for myself, and get my head on straight. As far as ever returning to the world of professional wrestling, thats all a fog to me right now. But I do want each and every one of my fans out there to know this: If The Excellence Of Execution does ever return to the squared-circle, he's coming back stronger than ever and he's coming back with one goal set in mind. But as far as right now goes, thats all I really have to say.

Vince McMahon: Thank you, Bret Hart.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: You know McMahon, I'm no Shawn Michaels fan... but I really think he 'kicked' some sense into that no good, lowlife Bret Hart. He's finally outta here.

Vince McMahon: Oh, will you stop it! Shawn won the match, but Bret makes a valid point.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Valid, schmalid McMahon. If he really was the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be, he would have beaten Shawn Michaels from pillar to post in the sudden-death overtime period, and never even lost the match, or his title to begin with. So dont give me that crap.

Vince McMahon: Crap!?! Well, be that as it may, its now time for whats bound to be an instant classic. Yes folks, for the first time ever, we're about to see The Phenom go one-on-one with The Ringmaster.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Yeah! And Steve Austins gonna finish the job that Big Daddy Cool started last night! The Undertaker is literally a dead man walkin'!! Haha!

Vince McMahon: Well, we'll just see about that King!

The Undertaker vs "The Ringmaster" Steve Austin

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/U%20Images/th_Undertaker13.jpg vs http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/S%20Images/th_Steve_Austin14.jpg

Steve Austin was aggressive right from the get-go, as he attacked The Undertaker before the bell even rang. He clotheslined The Undertaker straight over the top rope, but The Phenom landed directly on his feet. The Undertaker then grabbed Austin by the ankles, and pulled him directly to the outside, causing the brawl to ensue on the floor. With The Undertaker clearly gaining the upper-hand at this point, he proceeded to roll Austin back into the ring, and do his classic rope walk.... only to come crashing down on top. After a few short moments however, Austin turned the tide after he bounced off the ropes and hit 'Taker with a swinging neckbreaker.

The Undertaker though sat right up, but Austin thoroughly stayed on top of him by putting the collective boots to his right to his head. Following a few elbows as well, he even scored a near-fall.

After a few more moments of Austin pouncing away (and even hitting a Stun-Gun at one point), he ducked a wild clothesline attempt and caught The Undertaker in The Million Dollar Dream!! As the referee positioned himself in front of them however, The Undertaker used his back heel to deliver a crushing low-blow to Austin, staying clearly out of sight. This left both men down, as Ted DiBiase began screaming for a disqualification on the outside.

Both men struggled to their feet and began to slowly exchange blows. The Undertaker seemed to gain leverage, and sent Austin flying into the ropes. Austin however, ducked The Undertakers big boot attempt and came back with a Lou Thesz Press! Continuing with the vicious-like elbow smashes, Austin then attempted to climb to the top rope while 'Taker was down.

Austin though, was slow to climb the ropes and this allowed The Undertaker to get to his feet and merely kick the top rope. Austin came crashing down on the top turnbuckle.... in the straddle position.

The Undertaker then climbed up, looking for a super-plex, but after a few shots to the ribs, Austin shoved him right back down to the mat. He then climbed down to the second rope and came down with the flying elbow right onto the chest of The Undertaker. He went immediately for the cover, and scored a very close two-and-a-half. The Undertaker kicked out, and sat up.

Steve Austin continued the assault however, and whipped The Undertaker into the ropes. He attempted a clothesline, but The Undertaker quickly ducked and connected with his vintage flying clothesline!

From there, he took Austin by the throat and delivered a thunderous chokeslam!! The Undertaker then signaled.... and yes, proceeded to hit his foul-mouthed adversary with The Tombstone Piledriver!! But, just as he made the cover, 'someone' came running into the ring from behind and attacked The Undertaker, causing the ref to call for the bell.

Winner: The Undertaker via disqualification.

Vince McMahon: Hey! Hey... Thats.... Mankind!! We've been seeing and hearing about this individual for weeks now! He's.... he's attacking and taking advantage of the weakened state of The Undertaker!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: You've got two 'Creatures Of The Night' right there McMahon!

Vince McMahon: Mankind... with The Undertaker.... whats he doing to him?

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Looks like Mankind plans to bury The Undertaker, haha!!

Mankind "Burys" The Undertaker

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/M%20Images/th_Mick_Foley23.jpghttp://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w15/TheWho87EWR/Wrestlers/KyKy/U%20Images/th_Undertaker13.jpg

Mankind attacks The Undertaker from behind, knocking him directly to the outside. He continued the assault by ramming him into the steel guard-rail, then throwing him directly into the steel steps, knees first. Paul Bearer is begging Mankind to stop, but he proceeds to run across the apron, only to come flying off with a devastating elbow drop.

He then begins screaming like a mental patient, and ripping his own hair out like a deranged psycho-path. Mankind takes The Undertaker by the hair and jams his black bandaged fingers straight down his throat, still screaming and screaming. After about ninety seconds, WWF officials finally get Mankind off of The Deadman, but the damage has been done.

......But moments later, Mankind barrels through the officials and takes one final lunge at The Undertaker, hammering away.

Finally, the officials pull him away once and for all, leaving Paul Bearer in a state of utter shock while he attends to his fallen client.

Vince McMahon: King, he had his fingers right down his throat! Right down the esophagus! What a Creep!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Oh, I think The Undertaker has met HIS maker, McMahon!

Vince McMahon: We knew he'd be deranged, but God this is SICK! He took advantage of a battered and beaten Undertaker.

Jerry "The King" Lawler: I dont know what this man is McMahon, but he's not human!

Vince McMahon: Folks, when we return, I'll be joined by the NEW World Wrestling Federation Champion, Shaaawwwnnn Michaels!

Jerry "The King" Lawler: Yeah, great! He may have a lot of fans McMahon, but I have an air conditioner! Hahahaha!

Vince McMahon: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my guest at this time. He is the NEEEWWW World Wrestling Federation Champion. He is "The Heart Break Kid" Shaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnn Michaaaeeellllllllllllssssss!!!

The crowd erupts, as the new champ makes his way down to ringside. He does his usual strut, and celebrates with his "KLiQ" a bit, before joining Vince.

Vince McMahon: Alright. The dream of a 12 year old boy comes true just last night. But right now, lets talk about Bret "The Hitman" Hart, lets talk about the 60-Minute Iron Man Match, and lets talk about your future as World Wrestling Federation Champion.

"HBK" Shawn Michaels: Ya know somethin Vinman, I have PRANCED on Gods Green Earth and now, I have DANCED in Gods Blue Heaven! Last night was the SINGLE GREATEST MOMENT of my life, and I have THESE PEOPLE... My KLiQ to thank for that moment. Now, I know there's a lot of people out there who were pulling for Bret "The Hitman" Hart last night at WrestleMania. And whether you love me, or you hate me, I'm gonna make a promise to each and every one of you right here, right now. And I'm gonna also extend that promise to Bret "The Hitman" Hart and the entire Hart family as well. I PROMISE to wear this title with the Honor.... the Dignity... and the Class that Bret Hart did in the past. And Bret, I heard what ya had to say before, and believe you me, Anytime you want a shot at this title my friend, you know that you damn well got it! Anytime, anyplace.

Vince McMahon: Alright! And thats something I think we'd ALL like to see happen one more time around. But Shawn, I hope you do realize that for 11 years you have been labeled as the hunter. Now, with that title hoisted over your shoulder, everyone... and I mean everyone behind that curtain is gonna be gunnin' straight for you, which now makes you... the hunted.

"HBK" Shawn Michaels: All throughout my illustrious career so far here in the World Wrestling Federation, I've ALWAYS had a bullseye on my chest for one reason or another. But now that I'm carryin' this right here, I realize that being on top of the mountain may jus......

Sneak Attack

Then, from seemingly out of nowhere, Shawn Michaels is met with a huge boot to the face. It’s "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel!! He came in through the crowd, and he's dressed in street clothes! Diesel stands over Michaels and lifts him to his feet, then drives him to the mat with the Jacknife Powerbomb! Diesel looks out to the crowd wearing a devious grin, then takes Shawn and plants him with a second Jacknife! Michaels is broken in half, literally! Diesel then picks the WWF Title off the mat and holds it in his hands while staring down, then throws it down on the chest of The Heart Break Kid. Raw comes to a close with Big Daddy Cool standing tall over the fallen WWF Champion.

Yea, this was around the time that those gimmicks were ending, but you could still feel the dumbness to the gimmicks like the Three-Way Gang War with DOA, Nation, and Los Boricuas which I think happened a year later.. but still dumb.

Great first show, BTW.

Actually, that was '97. At the end of '96, Psycho Sid won the title from Shawn Michaels, Bret returned and fought Austin for the first time, Hunter was the IC champ I believe, Owen & Bulldog were the tag champs and Rocky had just debuted. It was a great time for wrestling.

And thank you. The Superstars preview will be up shortly.
