TEW2010 Developer's Journal Discussion

Recommended Posts

Well, I for one am in favour of this one, just so people stop clogging upo the suggestions thread with it. And I think it says a lot about Adam that he'll do something he doesn't like for the sake of his fans- go you!

Seriously, though, I can see myself using for my user characters- if they're wrestlers they tend to end up in tag teams, and having a moderate chemistry note can serve as an in-game explanation for that.

You don't even want to know how I first reacted to the forced chemistry feature the first I heard about it... I was totally surprised for pretty much all the reasons listed already. I don't trust mod makers to utilise chemistry properly, as many mods already over-rate stats to the point that games are almost unplayable.

But I'm still cautiously optimistic about the feature... I mostly play the Cornellverse anyways so I know Adam won't botch it and I'll be copying and pasting whatever examples he has to use for myself, so that'll make the CV97 just as good (hopefully!).

All in all, this is a feature I expect to see abused at first and then balanced after a while, along with Hiring Rules. As with most new and potentially big features, there will be a phase of heavy handedness followed by a learning process and the hopefully... awesome mods. :)

Why, Adam, why....why would you inflict such a terrible burden upon the mod community. <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Now reading diaries if someone gets some "good chemistry" notes...did they really have good chemistry or did the person just take the lazy route and go "I set my ME to have great chemistry with itself."

Now in order to play a real world mod I'm going to have to clean out chemistry files. I guess no biggie for me but I shudder to think how much abuse this feature is going to get when

I am a bit curious as he wrote that the c-verse will have "virtually no" pre-set chemistry, which means there will be some set.

Seriously though, this feature makes me very sad and really tops off an all-together miserable week for me. I woke all excited thinking this was going to be a great release and then I find a feature that even Adam himself is thinking is a bad idea. Followed by a whole bunch of munchkin's posting "yes, now I can abuse chemistry all day long" <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

It might be interesting if any gets added - some teams might have been formed off the back of great chemistry, or in spite of bad chemistry/

As for the Gauges... Yeah. It's right that they don't debut with team experience, but I definitely start them as a team when I get both, so I'll be fascinated to see what Adam does there. If there's a gold-plated logic for giving two workers chemistry as a team (or even as opponents) then being twins would be it. I wouldn't argue the same for the Bumfholes, the Wilkes etc. but the Gauges/Keiths? Yes, definitely.

Mind you, they always seem to get signed up to different feds in Japan, so it's likely to make no difference. I could see Matt being a PGHW main eventer, while Greg's bumming around the American indies, as Matt always seems to be the overachiever of the two...

Starting them as a team is the obvious choice, but the chance of negative chemistry is kinda fun too. I wonder what I do in that situation. Let one go? Put one under a hood? Have them as a singles alliance rather than a tag team? Push them as a team anyway and hope experience levels it out?

The challenges of randomness can be fun, so it'll be interesting to see what Adam has in store.

The fallout from this feature is hilarious; Adam's tone when writing it is brilliant. Kudos to him for implementing something he doesn't like the sound of. I can't see this being any use to me (I don't play mods really, just base C-Verse), but appreciate there is a large chunk of the community that will. That's good development sense. Auto booker next, Adam? <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

It's a feature that obviously a lot of people want to be included in the game and could even result in an increase in sales. That's hardly what I call the "Death of TEW". And obviously, the use of an autobooker would be completely optional, so there would be ne absolutely nothing forcing you to ever even touch that thing! So, why would it bother you so much?

Auto booker is one of those features that alot of people want and alot of people don't want so I'm sure you would have the option of turning it off if it ever made it into TEW.

Not sure what to think of the auto-chemistry, I'm not a mod maker so I wouldn't use it myself.

A lot of people that I know play these older games because of there's nearly any micro-management and the games are really easy to play. Though the same people are those who say that they won't pay 34.95$ for a 'text-based game' <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Much like the ability to toggle switches that make the game easy I could care less about force chemistry. Between this and the toggle for ease I know there are going to be tons of posts about "look how good my show game out" and I'm just gonna be like did you set everyone's chemistry to great and toggle the game to easy if so I don't care.

I don't know how many writers will do that, but its a nice approach The ability to turn many features on or off, in addition to the possibility of adjusted chemistry, means diaries may not be "equal". But I don't know that they really were before - even just Straight Edge vs Free Style makes a big difference in how you have to approach things in a game. Actually using the user avatar, the promotion you start with, etc. All play a role in how easy or difficult the diary game is.

True, and there's always the "honor code" approach where we just have to assume they're playing it a certain way and getting certain grades on their diary instead of just lying <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I just hope this feature doesn't get abused like I fear it will be. And I really really really hope the # of "I'm awesome at booking" threads remain at a minimum.

*JoeRoganModeOn* He's my hero!! *JoeRoganModeOff* I'm thoroughly impressed Adam included the forced chemistry in spite of his personal feelings due to popular demand. Here's a man who listens to his fans! I would have bought TEW2010 anyway (as I have every installment, so far), but this is literally the only thing I have really been hoping for. Big thumbs up, Adam!
