Nightshadeex
The Ultimate Fighting Championship Saturday, Week 3, December 1993 From Nevada http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/JimBrown.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/BillWallace.jpg Brown: “Hello everyone, I'm Jim Brown. Alongside me is Bill 'Superfoot' Wallace. It's The Ultimate Fighting Championship. Eight men, eight styles of fighting. Who will walk away the Ultimate Fighting Champion? Let's find out!” Superfoot: “We have four first round fights, following with the semi-finals, and the the Main Event, the match to decide it all, the match to find out which fighting style is the best, and who is the Ultimate Fighting Champion.” Brown: “Let's enlighten the fans on the rules here in the UFC.” Superfoot: “The rules are simple, anything goes in a sixty minute time limit fight.” Brown: “Let's take a look at our first fight of the night.” Superfoot: “Representing Sumo Wrestling, we have Hawaii's own Teila Tuli.” Brown: “His opponent, representing Shoot Fighting, 'The World's Most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock.” Superfoot: “This fight could go either way, standing up, Shamrock has the advantage with his quickness and striking ability.” Brown: “On the other hand, Tuli is a man of tremendous girth and excellent wrestling ability.” Superfoot: “I'd say this is like a David vs. Goliath scenario, but Shamrock isn't a major underdog.” Brown: “Well, Alex, who do you think is going to come away the victor?” Superfoot: “It's a tough call, but I have to go with the World's Most Dangerous Man.” Brown: “I am also going to pick speed over raw power. But we both know that anything can happen in that cage, so let's go to our inaugural fight!” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/TeilaTuli.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/kenshamrock.gif Teila Tuli vs. Ken Shamrock Age: 24 ------------ 29 Height: 6' ------------- 6'1" Weight: 430 lbs. ------- 225 lbs. Style: Sumo -------- Shoot Fighting Tuli moves in quickly and smothers Ken up against the cage. Tuli's cardio comes into question right away. He's able to keep Ken up against the cage, but all of Ken's struggling looks to tire the big man out. After several minutes of struggling, Tuli starts to throw some short punches to try and finish Ken. The fans start booing ridiculously as Ken Shamrock starts to gas as much as Tuli. In fact, the match finished up on the cage, Shamrock unable to break free. Brown: “How do you feel about that fight?” Superfoot: “Horrible, absolutely horrible. If Tuli is able to do that in the next round and the final, this venture will fold after the night is through.” Brown: “The scorecards are in, let's see.” Winner: Teila Tuli via unanimous decision (30-21) (Abysmal) Superfoot: “Yeah, that was a waste of my life. Let's hope the next fight brings some action.” Brown: “Our second fight of the night is going to be between 'The Russian Bear' Oleg Taktarov, a Sambo fighter from Russia versus a Muay Thai fighter, 'Pele' Jose Landi-Jons.” Superfoot: “I think Jose may have drawn the short straw here. Oleg is a better striker, and he's a better wrestler.” Brown: “Does Jose have a chance at all?” Superfoot: “If he can get Oleg in a clinch and block any throws to the mat, he should be able to survive.” Brown: “So who are you picking?” Superfoot: “Oleg Taktarov, hands down.” Brown: “Me too.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/OlegTaktarov.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/JoseLandi-Jons.jpg Oleg Taktarov vs. Jose Landi-Jons Age: 25 ------------ 20 Height: 6' ------------- 5'11" Weight: 220 lbs. ------- 185 lbs. Style: Sambo ---------- Muay Thai Oleg moves in with a couple jabs, which are used as cover for a shoot. Jose blocks the takedown and pulls Oleg into a clinch. Oleg pulls away and they circle each other. Jose throws a couple jabs to test the water, but they go nowhere. Oleg wants Jose to come forward, which, after a moment, he does. Jose throws a combination, but it's bait from Oleg to close the distance. Oleg goes for another takedown, but Jose backs away quickly. Oleg pulls Jose into a grapple and transitions into a Muay Thai clinch. Superfoot: “Ooooh, that's rude.” Brown: “Well, at least this one's more exciting than the last fight.” Oleg misses a couple knee strikes, but Jose can't counter either. Oleg continues to hold onto the clinch, using his power to control Jose. Neither man can land a square knee strike. Both fighters look gassed. And the clinch is where the fight ends, as neither man really lands a strike, but Jose can't break out of Oleg's grasp. Superfoot: “It started out entertaining.” Brown: “That has to be embarrassing for Jose, being a Muay Thai fighter and all.” Superfoot: “The scorecards are in.” Winner: Oleg Taktarov via unanimous decision (30-27) (Abysmal) Brown: “The fight started out really good.” Superfoot: “I was hoping that one of those knees would connect, but alas... moving on.” Brown: “In our third, first round fight, Japanese Catch Wrestler, Masakatsu Funaki will go up against American boxer, Art Jimmerson.” Superfoot: “Here is a pure wrestler vs. striker match.” Brown: “If the fight stays standing?” Superfoot: “Art will not be beaten, however, that can't be guaranteed. Funaki is going to try to get inside and take Art to the ground. If he can, it's game over.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/MasakatsuFunaki.gifhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/ArtJimmerson.jpg Masakatsu Funaki vs. Art Jimmerson Age: 24 ------------- 30 Height: 6' -------------- 6'1" Weight: 185 lbs. -------- 215 lbs. Style: Catch Wrestling ------- Boxing Funaki runs right in trying to take Art to the ground, but the boxer grabs Funaki into a clinch. Both men let go of the clinch and Funaki attempts several jabs, setting up another takedown attempt. Art blocks it, but is pushed up against the cage. Funaki is now able to get the takedown, but a narrowly avoids a guillotine on the way down. Brown: “It's the first time tonight that we've gotten to the ground.” Funaki passes right through Art's guard and gains side control. He continues to try to pass to a mount, but has to settle for the back instead. Superfoot: “Bad idea from Art...” Funaki goes for a rear naked choke and is able to get Art to tap. Brown: “It's over! We have a clear winner!” Winner: Masakatsu Funaki via submission from Rear Naked Choke (4:18) (Great) Superfoot: “That's more like it.” Brown: “That was a great fight!” Superfoot: “Funaki has the skills to go far here. He may just be able to win it all tonight.” Brown: “It's time for our final first round fight. Jiu-Jitsu expert, Royce Gracie will face off against Karate expert Gerard Gordeau.” Superfoot: “There is no question in my mind that Gordeau is the better striker.” Brown: “But what about Royce?” Superfoot: “If Royce gets Gordeau on the ground, it's over. The Gracie's don't have their own form of Jiu-Jitsu for nothing.” Brown: “So who wins?” Superfoot: “It's too close to call. Let's just go to the cage.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/roycegracie.gifhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/GerardGordeau.jpg Royce Gracie vs. Gerard Gordeau Age: 27 ----------------- 34 Height: 6' -------------------- 6'5" Weight: 180 lbs. ------------- 216 lbs. Style: Gracie Jiu-Jitsu -------- Karate Royce moves in and immediately hits a jab. Gordeau looks surprised and backs off, assessing the situation. Gordeau steps in, but that proves to be a mistake as Gracie shoots in and takes Gordeau down. Royce easily passes Gordeau's guard and in a blink, he gains the mount. Gordeau tries to fight Royce off, but leaves himself wide open for an armbar and is forced to tap. Brown: “Wow! That was lightning fast!” Superfoot: “Royce is one hell of a fighter, that is for sure.” Winner: Royce Gracie via submission from armbar (4.06) (Good) Brown: “Royce Gracie finishes up the first round.” Superfoot: “And after two snoozefests, we have two quick, action packed fights.” Brown: “The semi-finals are set, who's going to take their place in the finals? We're going to see Teila Tuli vs. Oleg Taktarov.” Superfoot: “Both men went to the time limit in their first fights, that could spell the difference.” Brown: “Then we're going to see Masakatsu Funaki vs. Royce Gracie.” Superfoot: “With the quickness and crispness of both men's wins, that one should be good.” Brown: “Let's not waste any more time and get the next fight underway.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/OlegTaktarov.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/TeilaTuli.jpg Oleg Taktarov vs. Teila Tuli Age: 25 ------------ 24 Height: 6' ------------- 6' Weight: 220 lbs. ------- 430 lbs. Style: Sambo --------- Sumo Taktarov knows that he doesn't want to get put up against the cage and tries to take Tuli off his feet. Oleg succeeds and puts Tuli on his back. The Russian throws in a few hard punches and elbows, but Tuli holds guard. Tuli pulls Oleg in close and is able to block several strikes. Oleg pulls away and again throws a flurry of punches. Tuli tries taking the fight to the cage, but Oleg holds him down and throws in a few more punches. Superfoot: “Oleg, really impressing me here. I didn't think Tuli would be grounded so easily.” Oleg continues to control Tuli and keeps him away from the cage and eating punches. Oleg starts to look tired as he keeps throwing random punches to keep Tuli off guard. Tuli continues to absorb punches from Oleg. Tuli keeps Oleg close, not allowing him to posture up and gain an advantage. Oleg stays busy with those punches, but they don't seem to affect his much larger opponent. Brown: “Oh! It looks like Tuli is starting to move.” Tuli tries to scramble up, but his size is not his friend here, as Oleg is much quicker and is able to gain side control. Superfoot: “Tuli may have expended his last bit of energy.” Oleg tries to slap on an arm triangle. He succeeds and Tuli has no choice but to tap. Brown: “Another submission victory!” Superfoot: “Oleg completely controlled this one. Tuli, perhaps still exhausted from his first fight.” Winner: Oleg Taktarov via submission from Arm Triangle (12:50) (Poor) Brown: “Oleg pulled off the victory here without much trouble.” Superfoot: “Tuli was absorbing all sorts of punches from the Russian Bear, but in the end, a mauling took place.” Brown: “We officially know one half of the finals. Who will be joining him?” Superfoot: “I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to this match up. Jiu-Jitsu is a superior martial art, but catch wrestling may very well be the counter.” Brown: “Who do you like here?” Superfoot: “I think I'm buying into the Gracie hype train. I like Royce.” Brown: “Let's go to the cage and find out.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/roycegracie.gifhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/MasakatsuFunaki.gif Royce Gracie vs. Masakatsu Funaki Age: 27 ----------------- 24 Height: 6' -------------------- 6' Weight: 180 lbs. ------------- 185 lbs. Style: Gracie Jiu-Jitsu ------------ Catch Wrestling Funaki wants to keep Royce away and opens with a jab. Royce steps in with a flurry of punches, stunning Funaki, before shooting in. Funaki has no counter for Royce's superior takedown offense and has to settle with full guard. Funaki is able to block Royce's initial attempt to pass guard. Royce is also able to avoid a sweep attempt. Both men struggle with each other for a couple moments before Royce is able to gain side control. He's then able to easily move to the mount and slap on an armbar. Superfoot: “Wow!” Brown: “He's got it!” Winner: Royce Gracie via submission from Armbar (6:44) (Average) Brown: “Was that everything you had hoped for?” Superfoot: “That was a good struggle for supremacy, but you can't beat perfection, I guess.” Brown: “So, the main event is set. Sambo master Oleg Taktarov against Jiu-Jitsu expert Royce Gracie.” Superfoot: “This is going to be strength versus skill. Don't get me wrong, both men are highly skilled, but I'm giving the win to Royce Gracie here.” Brown: “Well, we're about to find out. Royce looks tired from his last match, but he's not one to give up without a fight.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/roycegracie.gifhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/OlegTaktarov.jpg Royce Gracie vs. Oleg Taktarov (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Age: 27 ----------------- 25 Height: 6' -------------------- 6' Weight: 180 lbs. ------------- 220 lbs. Style: Gracie Jiu-Jitsu ---------- Sambo Taktarov moves in and the two men lock up, grappling for control. Royce takes down Oleg, but isn't able to avoid his guard. There are a couple of failed pass/sweep attempts before Royce decides to throw a couple punches to soften Oleg up. Oleg is able to stop the subsequent pass attempt. Oleg wants the double underhooks, but is not able to grab them. The struggle continues as neither man can gain a true dominant position. Both men look tired from their ground struggle. Royce is finally able move to half guard and lock on a quick arm triangle for the submission. Superfoot: “Not where he wanted to go, but he'll take it.” Winner: Royce Gracie via submission from arm triangle (24:28) (Awful) Brown: “We have crowned the Ultimate Fighting Champion!” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/UFC.gif http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/roycegracie.gif Superfoot: “It looks like Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is officially the strongest fighting style in the world.” Brown: “You called Gracie perfection earlier. Do you still believe that?” Superfoot: “Absolutely. I think Royce is going to be the Ultimate Fighting Champion for years to come.” Brown: “I hope we'll be back soon, as more fighters appear to become the Ultimate Fighting Champion. Thank you for coming out tonight.” Show Rating: Good Attendance: 95, for a gate of $

PANCRASE is a promotion in Japan that looks more like professional wrestling.” Brown: “How about Zane Frazier?” Superfoot: “They call him 'Nasty' and for good reason. Zane has some mean striking skills. He just doesn't want to go to the mat, because Kazuo's catch wrestling will put an end to him fast.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/KazuoTakahashi2.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/ZaneFrazier.jpg Kazuo Takahashi vs. Zane Frazier Age: 24 -------------- 27 Height: 5'10” -------------- 6'6” Weight: 205 lbs. -------------- 230 lbs. Style: PANCRASEism -------------- Karate Both men move to the center of the Octagon and miss punches. Kazuo scores a quick jab and pulls Zane into a grapple. Kazuo hits a few quick punches and tries to take Zane back into the cage, but Zane is able to shift his weight and break free. Kazuo moves right back into a grapple and catches Zane with a few crisp punches. Kazuo tries to put Zane against the cage again, but is reversed. Zane tries a karate thrust, but Kazuo is able to dodge and counter with a jab. Kazuo shoots in for a takedown, but Zane is able to evade the attack. Kazuo really want Zane up against the cage, but he is reversed again. Brown: “It looks like Kazuo's strategy is to get Zane up against the cage.” Superfoot: “It's not working for him though, both of these guys are big dudes.” Zane steps back from the cage grapple and throws another strike, but again misses and eats a jab. Both men exchange strikes, but no real damage is inflicted. Kazuo pulls Zane into a grapple, but he's looking very tired. Zane reverses another attempt to get him against the cage and presses Kazuo this time. He steps back, avoids a jab, and gives Kazuo a good one of his own. Kazuo keeps throwing jabs, but they aren't hitting their mark and he eats a few strikes for it. Kazuo, looking drained, throws a couple slow jabs to cover a takedown attempt. He doesn't get it and Zane pulls him into a clinch instead. Brown: “Both of these guys are completely exhausted.” The grapple breaks after a short struggle. Zane bobs and weaves sloppily around a few jabs. Kazuo again tries to put Zane against the cage, but fails. Kazuo blocks a series of punches and counters with a clean shot to the cheek. Zane backs away from a grappling attempt and hits a few jabs to the face. His last jab misses and Kazuo counters with a punch of his own. Another failed attempt at pushing Zane up to the cage results in Kazuo getting a flurry of punches to the face. Kazuo tries to shoot in for a takedown again, but Zane is ready with a big haymaker. Unfortunately for Zane, he misses. Kazuo lets up from the takedown attempt and takes a jab to the face for it. A punch connects on Zane's face. Zane hits a crisp punch. Kazuo ducks a straight right and connects with a jab of his own. Superfoot: “What a war!” Kazuo shoots in for a takedown, but Zane sprawls and brings Kazuo into a clinch. The clinch is broken and the two men circle. Zane misses a jab and looks to his corner for help. Kazuo wants to try the takedown again, but it's stuffed and subsequently backed into the cage. Zane, energy depleted, holds Kazuo against the cage to catch his breath. The referee sees this as a stalling tactic and breaks the fighters up. Brown: “There's the first example of the new rule where the referee isn't just in the ring to call a winner, but he will keep the action going.” Kazuo wants a takedown, but it's countered by a jab attempt. Kazuo avoids the jab and hits one of his own. Kazuo shoots in again and is avoided. Kazuo notices Zane having trouble keeping his guard up and throws in a solid punch. Kazuo really wants to take the fight to the ground, but Zane sprawls and forces Kazuo into a turtle position. Zane grabs a second wind and throws in several big shots to the body and side of the head. Zane throws in a hard knee to the side of the head, in an attempt to get Kazuo to unturtle. A few more punches to the body gets Kazuo to jump back up to his feet. Superfoot: “Wow, I thought Zane had the victory there. I'm shocked either of these guys still have anything in them.” Kazuo still hasn't learned his lesson and hits a couple jabs before going for the takedown and missing. Zane clinches with Kazuo and pushes him up against the cage. Brown: “We're thirty minutes into this fight, and so far it's been entertaining to say the least.” Zane steps off the grapple, breathing heavily. His hands are dropped low and he gets caught for it. Kazuo misses another takedown, but lands a straight. Kazuo dodges a couple punches from Zane, and shoots in for another takedown, but it's avoided. Both men miss a couple punches and end up in the clinch. Zane smothers Kazuo's dirty boxing and shoves him up against the cage. The referee breaks up the cage grapple after there is no attempt by either fighter to better their position. Kazuo gets punched in the left shoulder and tries a takedown, but is stuffed yet again. Superfoot: “Kazuo needs to stop going for the takedown and try something else.” Zane puts Kazuo up against the cage again and steps back to hit a hard strike, but is caught with a crisp jab. Zane's hands are down near his side now, but Kazuo tries another takedown. Zane sprawls and pushes Kazuo face down to the ground. Zane connects with several big punches to the side of Kazuo's head. Kazuo absorbs the punches and manages to get back up to his feet. Kazuo hits a series of good jabs, but tries for a takedown and is caught in a clinch. Kazuo is able to smother Zane this time and scores with some dirty boxing of his own. Zane is eventually able to wrest control of the grapple. Brown: “The referee breaks them up again.” Another takedown is blocked into a clinch. Zane pushes Kazuo up against the cage to catch his breath, but the referee quickly breaks them up. Kazuo hits a jab and then backs out of range of a flurry of punches from Zane. Both fighters hit weak punches and Kazuo is pulled into a clinch. Zane again wants to catch his breath, but the hold is broken up. Zane hits a shot to the body followed by a couple to the head. Kazuo tries to turn up the heat, but his takedown attempt is blocked again. Kazuo dodges a straight right and hits a punch of his own to end the fight. Superfoot: “At least we got sixty minutes of action this time!” Brown: “Who picked up the win?” Superfoot: “It's too close to call. I'm glad I'm not a judge here. Kazuo hit the most punches, but every single one of his takedowns were blocked, countered, or avoided.” Winner: Zane Frazier via unanimous decision (30-27) (Average) Brown: “It looks like defense won this fight.” Superfoot: “I'm starting to think these sixty minute time limits are too long.” Brown: “Our next fight will pit 'Pele' Jose Landi-Jons against Patrick Smith. Muay Thai versus Tae Kwon Do, which style will come out on top?” Superfoot: “Jose has experience in the Octagon. He's the only returning fighter from the first Ultimate Fighting Championship.” Brown: “Who has the advantage standing?” Superfoot: “Jose.” Brown: “On the ground?” Superfoot: “Jose.” Brown: “Do I know your pick?” Superfoot: “Jose.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/JoseLandi-Jons.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/PatrickSmith.jpg Jose Landi-Jons vs. Patrick Smith Age: 20 -------------- 30 Height: 5'11” -------------- 6'2” Weight: 185 lbs. -------------- 225 lbs. Style: Muay Thai -------------- Tae Kwon Do Pele shoots in for a takedown right away, but backs up when Pat throws a counter punch. Pat stays back and waits for Jose to make a move. Jose comes in for a takedown again, but Smith throws another missed counter punch. Jose continues to circle his stationary opponent. Jose throws a couple quick jabs and attempts another takedown, but is avoided. We hit a stalemate, as neither fighter can land their strikes. They circle again for a moment before Jose shoots in again, this time Pat locks him in a clinch. Pat bakcs Jose up against the cage and used some dirty boxing skills to inflict damage. Pat imposes his weight on Jose by holding him on the cage, which causes the referee to get involved. Brown: “Again, the referee is making his presence known.” After being sent to the center, Jose shoots in for another takedown. Pat sprawls again and pulls Jose into a clinch. They go back into the cage. Pat looks tired as he holds Jose against the cage. The referee lets Pat catch his breath for a second and breaks the hold. The exact same scenario happens again. Jose doesn't go straight for the takedown this time, throwing a jab to keep Pat at a distance. This, however, is just a set up for a takedown attempt., which is countered by a missed kick. The two fighters grapple and Pat pushes Jose up against the cage, where no action happens and they're sent back to the center of the Octagon. Superfoot: “The stalemate rule has really allowed for more exciting matches, I mean, they keep going into the same position, but it's nice to know we won't have Teila Tuli sitting on his opponent for an hour.” Jose tries for another takedown, but Pat throws a flurry of punches to stop it. Jose avoids them and steps in with a jab, followed by a missed mid-kick. Jose goes for another takedown, but is stuffed by a sprawl into a turtle position. Pat throws several punches, but Jose seems to absorb them and get back up to his feet. Jose tries to fight back, but Pat avoids the strikes. Pat sprawls on another takedown attempt and puts Jose in a turtle position again. Brown: “Woah! Jose has given up his back. He had better be careful!” Pat does indeed take Jose's back and attempts to slap on a rear naked choke. Jose defends well against the choke and is in no real danger. Pat fights to get his hooks in and does, it looks like the choke will end this. Pat goes too high on the choke, however, and Jose is able to buck him off, leading to a scramble for the dominant position. Neither fighter can gain the advantage and they both get up to their feet. Jose throes a quick one-two punch, but only finds gloves. Pat steps back to catch his breath as Jose circles. Superfoot: “It doesn't look like Pat wants to press the issue at the moment.” Jose throws a speculative punch and then nails Pat with a jab. Pat starts back-stepping and avoids several strikes from Jose. Jose goes in for the takedown, but ends up in the turtle position. Pat takes his back again and pounds away on his body and head. Pat goes for the rear naked choke once again, but Jose springs up and scrambles into Pat's half guard. Jose throws several weak punches to set up a pass, but Pat blocks it. Pat tries to lock up Jose's arm, but can't secure it. The referee sees a stalemate and stands both men up. Brown: “The ref stands them back up?” Superfoot: “Bad call on that one...” Brown: “We're halfway through this fight.” Pat avoids a flurry of punches a jabs Jose on the cheek. Pat looks like he is in control and Jose circles around in an attempt to catch him off guard. Jose tries to land a flurry of strikes, but misses and is stung with a series of quick punches himself. Jose goes back to circling and takes a couple shots to the cheek. Jose shoots in for a takedown, but Pat backs away. Jose throws several punches, but none of them connect. He goes in for a takedown, but Pat counters with a vicious uppercut. Superfoot: “Wow, luckily for Jose he dodged that attack. Jose goes back to circling around to regain his bearings. Jose is able to land a few strong strikes and begins to become more bold in his attack. Both fighters go back to circling. Jose goes back in for a takedown, but is caught in a sprawl and front facelock. Pat wants a knee strike, but Jose gets up to his feet. Pat lands a hard counter punch. Jose wants the takedown badly, but he's put back down in a front facelock again. Brown: “It looks like Pat wants to end this now.” Pat fires away with punches, landing several stinging shots to the side of Jose's head. Pat floats over the turtled Jose and takes his back once again. Pat wants the rear naked choke, but is too high once again, allowing Jose to shoot under him and scramble back to his feet. Jose goes for the takedown again, but is met with a sprawl. Pat is able to land several more big shots to the side of the head. Now he goes for an Anaconda Vice. Pat rolls, but can't secure the submission attempt and takes side control again. Superfoot: “Pat has really taken control here, I'm kind of surprised.” Jose tries a sweep, but it's blocked. He has some big shoes to fill, with the Gracie legacy hanging in the balance.” Brown: “What about his opponent, Kevin Rosier?” Superfoot: “Well, Kickboxing is a good way to keep your opponent away from you. Your legs have the longest reach you can get. Kevin's going to have to keep Renzo away if he wants to secure the victory.” Brown: “Your pick?” Superfoot: “The Gracie Legacy.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/RenzoGracie1.gifhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/KevinRosier.jpg Renzo Gracie vs. Kevin Rosier Age: 26 -------------- 30 Height: 5'10” -------------- 6'4” Weight: 185 lbs. -------------- 265 lbs. Jose misses a few punches, but goes in for another takedown. Jose ends up with his back against the cage. We've got ourselves a knockout!” Winner: Zane Frazier via TKO from strikes (35:35) (Good) Brown: “What a war between those two men!” Superfoot: “Zane Frazier really impressed me there. Will he be able to go all the way to the belt? I don't know, but I do know this next fight is going to be a good one.” Brown: “Renzo Gracie finished Kevin Rosier in under three minutes earlier tonight. Murilo finished his opponent in four.” Superfoot: “These guys both have skills that will help them in the Octagon. The question is, whose skills are better?” Brown: “What do you think?” Superfoot: “Gracie Legacy.” Brown: “Let's go to the cage and find out.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/RenzoGracie1.gifhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/MuriloBustamante.jpg Renzo Gracie vs. Murilo Bustamante Age: 26 -------------- 27 Height: 5'10” -------------- 6'1” Weight: 185 lbs. -------------- 185 lbs. Superfoot: “I don't think either of these guys were going to go anywhere from that position.” Renzo hits a couple of high jabs and takes Murilo down. They're back in full guard, but this time Renzo isn't able to pass. Murilo tries both to pull Renzo down and then land some punches from the bottom, but to no avail. Renzo takes him down again. Renzo tries passing guard, but leaves his neck open for a guillotine choke attempt. Renzo defends it and goes to dead weight, trying to wear Murilo down. Brown: “Renzo is doing just enough not to be stood back up.” Renzo continues to smother Murilo and tries a few punches to keep the ref from standing them up, but it's not enough. Renzo wants a takedown, but Murilo catches him in a clinch. Murilo tries to push the tired Renzo up against the cage, but Renzo is able to break free. Murilo looks like he wants to grapple and that sits just fine with Renzo. Both men evade a punch from the other and land one of their own. They trade strikes, but don't do any damage. Renzo comes in with a jab, but is countered by a series of hard punches. Murilo continues on the attack, dodging attacks and launching counters. Murilo Bustamante is imposing his will.” Both men exchange some messy punches and fall into an even messier clinch. Renzo tries several takedowns, but they are blocked. The fifth takedown attempt is finally completed, with Renzo ending up in Murilo's guard. Renzo throws a couple punches, but moves on to smothering Murilo. Renzo leaves his neck out and is caught in a guillotine choke. It isn't tight enough to cause a tap out, but Murilo is able to sweep into side control. Brown: “We're thirty minutes into the fight.” Superfoot: “These guys are both submission experts, this is great!” Renzo wants to sweep from side control, but is blocked. They struggle for a moment until Murilo grabs an arm and applies a straight armbar. Renzo tries to find a way out, but has no choice but to tap out. Brown: “He did it!” Superfoot: “The Gracie Legacy has been defeated!” Winner: Murilo Bustamante via submission from straight armbar (50:05) (Average) Brown: “The finals have been set! Superfoot, are these the two men you thought would be here?” Superfoot: “Coming into the night, I thought it was going to be Jose and Renzo. Murilo vs. Zane is not what I expected at all.” Brown: “That's why we have the fights, anything can happen. So who do you think walks away with the win?” Superfoot: “Zane has been in the cage for 95 minutes tonight. Murilo has been in for 54. Neither man is at 100%, Hell, neither man is at 50%.” Brown: “So, you're saying it's going to be a war of attrition? Who walks out the champion?” Superfoot: “If they stay standing, Zane will win the fight, if they go to the ground, Murilo showed earlier that he can submit the best of them.” Brown: “Well, we'll see if you're right. Let's go to the octagon.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/MuriloBustamante.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/ZaneFrazier.jpg Murilo Bustamante vs. Zane Frazier Age: 27 -------------- 27 Height: 6'1” -------------- 6'6” Weight: 185 lbs. -------------- 230 lbs. vunsev
Great start, will be interesting to see whether Murilo can go on to become a Gracie Killer. Which data are you using for this dynasty?
Nightshadeex
I am using The Dawn of MMA, which you can find here. Thanks for reading. -- UFC president Zack Macomber held another press conference talking about the UFC, Blurcat Magazine has the highlights.. On UFC 2: “That was a fantastic night of fights if you ask me. We had 282 ($4230) people in the audience, and 73 ($292) buys on Pay-Per-View. That's a success, if you ask me.” On UFC 3: “The contract has been signed. We're going to see Openweight Champion Murilo Bustamante fight Ultimate Fighting Champion Royce Gracie in the main event. I guarantee it's going to be worth the price of admission.” On rulechanges: “We've received feedback that some fans aren't into the fact that a fight can go on for sixty minutes. And I agree, a lot of the fights that go that long get boring. So, for all non-main event fights, the time limit has been reduced to 30 minutes.” On Gracie vs. Bustamante: “Who do I think is going to win? Well, I tend to agree with Superfoot and put a lot of faith in the Gracie Legacy. My money's on Royce.” On Ron Van Clief retiring: “The Black Dragon is an icon. He signed a lucrative contract with us and then decided to retire. You know, that's fine. The guy's 51 years old. If he can't do this, he can't do it. Now, the man has charisma and if he ever wants to come back to the organization, I'm all for it.” Final Thoughts: “That's right, Saturday, Week 4, April 1994. UFC: Gracie vs. Bustamante. Be there.”

Alongside me, Bill 'Superfoot' Wallace.” Superfoot: “Hi there.” Brown: “Now Superfoot, tonight is going to feature our first ever 'Superfight' between Ultimate Fighting Champion, Royce Gracie, and UFC Openweight Champion, Murilo Bustamante.” Superfoot: “And what a fitting name 'Superfight' is. I'm just happy to be here and able to call the first one.” Brown: “That's not our only fight tonight, we are also going to have another Ultimate Fighting Tournament. The winner will garner himself a shot at the winner of the Gracie-Bustamante fight at our next Pay-Per-View.” Superfoot: “Who are the fighters we're going to see tonight?” Brown: “Our first match is going to pit Patrick Smith against Kevin Rosier.” Superfoot: “Alright, Patrick Smith lost to Jose Landi-Jons in a 56 minute war. Kevin Rosier lost to Renso Gracie in a 3 minute squash.” Brown: “Are you giving it to Patrick then?” Superfoot: “Yep. No question in my mind.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/PatrickSmith.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/KevinRosier.jpg Patrick Smith vs. Kevin Rosier Age: 30 ---------- 30 Height: 6'2” ---------- 6'4” Weight: 240 lbs ---------- 290 lbs. Patrick awaits Rosier to make a move and is obliged by a couple jabs and a shoot. Patrick happily pulls guard and goes right for a guillotine. Rosier blocks it and then fails an attempt at passing guard. This leaves him open for Patrick to lift his leg and ensnare Rosier in a triangle choke. Kevin thrashes for a second before tapping out. Winner: Patrick Smith via submission from triangle choke (2:38) (Fantastic) Superfoot: “Whoa! Rosier just tapped out quicker than he did against Renzo!” Brown: “You were definitely right in your pre-match estimate of the fight.” Superfoot: “Patrick Smith is a warrior. I would be surprised if we see Kevin Rosier in the Octagon again.” Brown: “Our second fight tonight will pit Oleg Taktarov against Jason Delucia. Oleg made it to the finals of the first Ultimate Fighting Championship. Jason, on the other hand, has made his name on the independent scene.” Superfoot: “Oleg is a good fighter, Delucia is going to be out punched, out strenghted, and finally beaten.” Brown: “Oleg's your pick?” Superfoot: “Oleg might be my pick for the entire tournament.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/OlegTaktarov.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/JasonDelucia.jpg Oleg Taktarov vs. Jason Delucia Age: 25 ---------- 24 Height: 6' ---------- 5'11” Weight: 240 lbs ---------- 206 lbs. He steps in with a couple jabs and a takedown attempt, but Delucia steps out of range. Oleg presses in, but takes a solid right for his trouble. Delucia dodges a few more punches, then has to counter a takedown with a missed punch of his own. Oleg throws three straight punches and is able to move in for a grapple. After a short struggle, Oleg tries to slam Delucia, but isn't able to get the kung fu practitioner off his feet. Brown: “That could have been a big slam.” Superfoot: “I want to see a big slam so badly.” Delucia catches the Russian Bear with a couple punches. Oleg counters with a takedown attempt that doesn't quite work, but Delucia finds himself pushed up against the cage. Oleg tries to use the cage to his advantage for a takedown, but soon finds himself backed up against the cage. Both men exchange some missed punches, but Oleg is able to break the trend with a good jab. After some circling, Oleg presses and hits a flurry of punches. Oleg goes for the takedown again, but Delucia is on to his plan and moves out of range. Brown: “Delucia is playing the role of the defenseman here.” Superfoot: “Well, he doesn't want to get taken down by the clearly stronger Taktarov. It's a smart plan, but he needs to do some damage if he wants to win the fight.” Delucia seems to be waiting for Oleg to make his move. Delucia throws jabs at Oleg as he tries to move in, but isn't able to connect with them. Both fighters exchange a series of hits and misses. Delucia is able to avoid a jab and Oleg's follow-up grapple attempt. Delucia moves out of range of a number of punch attempts and snaps off a nice jab. Oleg wants to move closer, but Delucia is able to stick and move. Oleg looks tired, but he is still able to catch Delucia with a solid punch. Brown: “Delucia still looks fresh out there, which I can't say about Oleg.” Oleg still wants to throw bombs, but he isn't able to connect. Oleg knows he needs to do something drastic and shoots in for another takedown. Both men head back up against the cage. Oleg takes a moment to catch his breath before trying another takedown. This time, he's able to get it as he uses the cage to his advantage. Oleg wants a guillotine, but he doesn't have the strength to pull it off. Delucia fights back with a few weak strikes to the back. Oleg wants to improve his position and is able to move into the full mount without any trouble. Oleg grabs the arm and is able to crank an armbar hard enough for Delucia to tap out. Winner: Oleg Taktarov via submission from armbar (23:40) (Average) Superfoot: “I thought Oleg almost got beat there.” Brown: “He was looking mighty tired by the end. Do you think he's going to have enough left in the tank for his next fight?” Superfoot: “We'll see. He's a tough guy.” Brown: “Alright, fight three is going to be a battle of two guys that made it past the first round in our first tournament, as Teila Tuli battles Masakatsu Funaki.” Superfoot: “Teila sat on Ken Shamrock against the cage for a solid hour in what will likely be called the worst fight in no holds barred fighting history.” Brown: “Now that the stalemate rule has been introduced, will Teila be able to win in the octagon?” Superfoot: “If Teila can take Funaki to the floor, he can smother him. If Funaki can stay out of Teila's range, he'll be able to wear the big man down without a problem. But even if Teila gets Funaki down, the referee will stand them up if he doesn't advance his position.” Brown: “So, are you giving it to Funaki?” Superfoot: “I sure am.” http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/TeilaTuli.jpghttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/godnightshade/WMMA/MasakatsuFunaki.gif Teila Tuli vs. Masakatsu Funaki Age: 24 ---------- 25 Height: 6' ---------- 6' Weight: 460 lbs ---------- 215 lbs. He tries some more punches, but Tuli pushes him up against the cage. Tuli smothers Funaki against the cage to catch his breath before attempting a trip takedown. Funaki blocks it and tries some dirty boxing, but ends up smothered against the cage again. Tuli moves far enough back to hit a mean short uppercut. Brown: “What an uppercut!” The referee separates the men and moves them to the center of the Octagon. Funaki comes in with a flurry of jabs and straight punches then tries another takedown. Tuli blocks it into a clinch and pushes Funaki back up against the cage. Tuli tries another trip, but Funaki blocks it and ends up with the big man against the cage. Funaki can't get his arm around Tuli's neck, but ends up sweeping into side control. Funaki throws some punches to stay busy as he transitions into an americana. Tuli isn't used to stretching in this way and is forced to tap out. Winner: Masakatsu Funaki via submission from americana (11:57) (Good) Brown: “Well Superfoot, you're three for three so far. Can you keep your streak up?” Superfoot: “That's my plan. Funaki just has the skills and the heart. He has a future here.” Brown: “It's time for our last first round fight. Nightshadeex
Blurcat Magazine has an exclusive interview with UFC President, Zack Macomber. Here are the highlights. On UFC 4: “It was a fantastic show. Simply fantastic. I wish every card we put on could be as good as that one. We had 265 in attendance ($3975), 79 PPV buys ($316). We're going to keep growing.” On the fighters: “Our fighters are becoming more well-known. Royce Gracie is a household name when it comes to fighting. Over the next few years, I see an explosion of popularity in store for all of the fighters.” On Teila Tuli: “I heard Teila is retiring. That's probably a good idea for him. He's a big dude, he was a pretty good sumo wrestler, but he doesn't really have the skills to compete in the Octagon. I wish him the best.” On the upcoming UFC 5: “Renzo Gracie has a shot to get some revenge on Murilo Bustamante. If you recall, Murilo beat Renzo in the second UFC tournament. Murilo has a chance to defend his Openweight Title. Murilo is going to be in it to make some money and prove that the Gracie's aren't unstoppable. It's gonna be a great fight.” More on UFC 5: “Of course we have another tournament set up. Oleg Taktarov vs. Bas Rutten. Fred Ettish vs. Ken Shamrock. Kevin Rosier vs. Kazuo Takahashi. Jason Delucia vs. Keith Hackney. It's gonna be a great night of fights. Saturday, Week 3, October 1994. Be there.”
