Help working with a small roster

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if it's just me all of the sudden of if it's something I've had a problem with since day one and just didn't notice until now, but for the life of me promotions like MAW and EWA are just impossible for me to book now.

Let me give you an example to better get my point across. I'm currently playing as EWA and have 1 Main Event heel and 2 Main event Faces. 1 Upper Heel, and 2 Upper Faces. 2 Midcard Heels and 3 Midcard Faces. 3 Lower Heels. 1 Opening heel and 1 opening face.

Given all of that I typically run two or three storylines at a time, it's also worth mentioning I have a strong heel/face divide.

Now my problem is I feel like every month I'm either putting on the exact same matches, or after about month 3 I run out of matches to run.

Not sure if i explained that well or not, but I really need help figuring out how to keep booking this company logically.

I figure the key is to rotate the roster. Don't keep the same people around constantly. If a midcarder's contract runs out, let him go and find someone fresh. A small roster is not the same thing as a fixed roster. Keep it fluid.

Self has good advice. Especially the mid-to-upper card should have quite a bit of rotation. Bring in a guy, hype him up, feud him with an established roster member and when it blows off, let him quietly slip away. Unless it proves successful enough to keep him on another season or two.

Also, be prepared to turn people quite a bit. Have them form and break alliances keep things jumbled.

Finally, you don't have to stick to the strict "ideal roster" guidelines. For small promotions, I tend to go about 1-2 people over at each level. They're on PPA's so it's not like I'm wasting money :D. As long as your shows are big enough that any given person can get a match at least every other month, then by all means have some "semi-active" workers.

My favorite tactic is to use my exclusive workers as my "main" workers and then hire some guys who also work for other promotions. So for MAW, for example, I might pick up Larry Wood (WEXXV) or Davis Wayne Newton (4C) or Jungle Jackand (GCG) they'll come in from time and again but they wouldn't be on every single show or involved in every single storyline. Often I use them as filler usually jobbing out to their peers, support for the "bigger" stars, or as gatekeepers to transition people up the roster.
