BHK1978
We had an MLB Playoff thread, so why not an NFL one as well? This is just a place to discuss your thoughts on the playoffs. With the Giants not even in the playoffs I really don't have anybody to cheer on in the playoffs. So I will just leave my first round picks: Philadelphia vs. Dallas NY Jets vs. Bengals Ravens vs. Patriots Packers vs. Cardinals This is mostly going with my gut as far as picks go. As a Giants fan I hate both Dallas and Philadelphia. However, to me Philly is the lesser of two evils. I really think the Ravens are a good team, and yes I hate the Patriots but that is not why I am picking them to lose. With Brady not being 100% with Welker being hurt and with the Patriot's abysmal defense, I just do not see them winning. And if they do win they will not get out of the next round. totti
Philadelphia vs. Dallas I think the Eagles could go really far this season. They reached the Championship game last year and I think their stronger than last year. Jackson is something else at reciever. NY Jets vs. Bengals After that demolition by the Jets last week I don't think the Bengals will be able to improve enough. Revis will take a beat up Ochocinco out of the game and the Jets will run the ball from the off allowing Sanchez time and space to throw the ball. Ravens vs. Patriots Gotta agree with the Welker comment although I wouldn't be surprised if Brady found some way of getting it done. A couple of big plays to you know who and everything can change. I predict a very close game, but the Ravens defence prevails. How much longer does Lewis have before he retires? Packers vs. Cardinals Being a fan i'm obviously going to go Pack, but I honestly think we have a great chance of making the superbowl. Our whole team is playing so well and I think if Woodson can contain Fitzgerald and our O Line can protect Rogers then we can cruise to victory here. TheEdgeOfReason
Philadelphia vs. Dallas NY Jets vs. Bengals Ravens vs. Patriots Packers vs. Cardinals I think the Pack are the only team built well enough to go far in the playoffs, that play in the wildcard round. As long as they don't commit turnovers, I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the NFC.
slack
I will be at the Bengals-Jets game Saturday. High of 19 any currently snowing in the Queen City, I like the Bengals in a 17-9 game. Dallas and Philly? I think Dallas is as good as anyone in the NFL right now, 27-17 Dallas. New England vs. Baltimore, the Pats rested a lot of defensive staters. I do think that they will miss Welker, but the Ravens seem to self-destruct. 21-20 Pats. Cards against the Pack. Probably the highest scoring game round 1. I bet the crowd will be 45% Packers fans. If Green Bay can be physical on the wideouts, I think they can cause a lot of problems, but don't sleep on the Cards. 38-31 Green Bay.
lazorbeak
Philadelphia vs. Dallas I just think this team is too well-coached and too experienced to lose to the Cowboys three times in the same year. On the other hand, I don't trust Dallas' coaching staff and I don't trust Tony Romo, who I don't believe has ever won a playoff game. NY Jets vs. Bengals Forget last week's game: the Bengals threw in the towel early, so it doesn't really mean much except that the Jets had a good start. I like the Bengals because Palmer is a lot more experienced than Sanchez, and I don't trust the Jets offense to score more than 10 points. As good as their defense is, the Jets could pull this out if they score over 20 points. I just don't see that happening. Ravens vs. Patriots If the Ravens win, it will be because Ed Reed is healthy and playing at 100%. The Ravens defense has been suspect here towards the end of the season, and their power-rushing game and lack of talent at the receiver positions mean they have problems playing from behind. If the Patriots take an early lead, it could turn into a blowout. Packers vs. Cardinals The Packers defense matches up really well with the Cardinals offense, where Woodson can hang with Fitzgerald while Green Bay's athletic pass-rush can give the virtually immobile Warner problems. Both teams have a tendency to play sloppy: the winner is the team that commits fewer penalties. I like Green Bay's offense a lot, too. I really don't like picking two wildcards to win in the NFC, and if I had to switch one it'd be Dallas, but I just don't trust those guys to win big games. GDE71
Philadelphia vs. Dallas JETS vs. Bengals Ravens vs. Patriots Packers vs. Cardinals I wish the Bengals would win that game, but I just don't see it happening. I wish I had the guts to pick the Packers.

slack
I wish the Bengals would win that game, but I just don't see it happening. The Bengals are getting 3 Defensvie starters back, they will play a rookie QB that played at USC, and only one game under 50 degrees under his belt. It'll be 19 and there is about 4 inches of snow out. Revis is a great corner, but he affects the Bengals less than any other team in the playoffs. THEY DONT THROW! Bernard Scott coming back will give them a three headed running back monster and he is also their KR guy. More food for thought, here is a list of Bengals opponents scores split between 1st and 2nd meeting this season. Steelers: 20 points /12 points Browns: 20 points / 13 points Ravens: 14 points / 7 points Given that info plus the fact that the Bengals were basically advance scouting the Jets (thanks for using the Brad Smith plays!) I can't imagine that offense going anywhere.
Comradebot
Philadelphia vs. Dallas Philly hasn't been able to beat Dallas yet, no reason to think that'll change. Miles Austin is simply too brilliant to stop. NY Jets vs. Bengals The Bengals knew what they were doing when they lost to the Jets last week. The Jets are one of the worst teams in the playoffs this year, having basically been "handed" two wins in a row to get them the wildcard. Bengals laid down for them last week to insure they played them instead of the Texans, but they won't lay down this week. Could be a blow out in the opposite direction this time. Ravens vs. Patriots I just can't bring myself to bet against the Patriots in the playoffs. Could go either way, but Hoody and Brady = victories far too often. Packers vs. Cardinals The Packers are on FIRE! I'm a bit of a Cardinals fan, but Green Bay looks nearly unstoppable as of late. In fact, I'll go ahead and predict it now: Green Bay represents the NFC in the Super Bowl this year. I don't care that their not one of the top seeds, they're very, very, very hot right now. Meanwhile, the Saints and the Vikings are both in their typical late season meltdown mode, the Saints in particular. Back on topic: Cardinals put up a fight and I bow before the glory that is Kurt Warner, but in the end the Packers manage to edge it out. And then go on to the Super Bowl. AfRoMaN36
Philadelphia vs. Dallas I'm rooting for the Boys but Philly's just too good NY Jets vs. Bengals After the butt hurt that the Jets gave them last week and the fact that the Jets are the best defensive team in the playoffs. With a little luck they have a shot to go deep here. Ravens vs. Patriots This is not the same Pats of the recent dynasty. This team limped into the playoffs and Bradys playing hurt. I'd be surprised if they went anywhere. Packers vs. Cardinals A guess here. I don't know much about either team.
jwt13
One thing about the Cowboys...they ar SERIOUSLY over rated. You look at Romo who had one good season and then he so called "One of the best QB's in the league" when he's no better than Camblle in DC or Matt Ryan in ATL. And I think that young reciver Austin is the same thing one good year and they will hype him way over his real skill like Romo
slack
Let's rate the coaches in the Playoffs: 1. Belichik (or however you spell it!) 2. Norv Turner 3. Ken Wisenhunt 4. Sean Payton 5. Peyton Manning 6. Andy Reid 7. Marvin Lewis 8. John Harbaugh 9. Rex Ryan 10. Brad Childress 11. Mike McCarthy 12. Wade Philips
randomfreeze
Who is calling Romo one of the best QBs in the league anymore? All I've heard about Romo the last month is his ability to not win games in December...which is almost the exact opposite of what you're saying jwt. Same goes for the whole team. We just got through five weeks talking about how bad they are in December...not how great they are. I don't see how any of this equals overrated. Anyways, NFC is cool this year because I think anyone of the six teams can really go to the Super Bowl, which makes the playoffs awesome to watch. In the AFC, I can't look past the Colts or the Chargers, and I'm favoring the Chargers right now. First round, I've got Cowboys, Packers, Jets, and Patriots. The Final Countdown
I like the Packers to make it to the Super Bowl out of the NFC, provided the offensive line can keep Rodgers on his feet, which they struggled with earlier in the season. I like the Chargers in the AFC, despite not being a fan of the team personally (it's a division rival thing; I'm a Broncos fan.) They're arguably the hottest team in either conference right now, and they've also had Indy's number in recent years. For the Wild Card weekend, I like Green Bay, Philly, Cincy and Baltimore. Remianen
As a Giants fan I hate both Dallas and Philadelphia. I dunno why. If the Giants weren't gutless, if they had any pride whatsoever, they'd be in the playoffs. But they are, they don't, and they're not. *shrug* Ravens over the Pats (I like Edelman. But the playoffs aren't the time to learn how to play and the Ravens aren't the ones you wanna do it against). Bengals over the Jets (The Bengals are going to run so many fire blitzes, it's going to force the Jets into max protect or 'big' formations and they'll have to try to throw it. Sanchez is a rookie, looks like a rookie, plays like a rookie, and likes to throw to people wearing the opposite color jersey. Braylon Edwards is going to drop at least one "sure" touchdown (and probably 2-3) and the Bengals are going to shove Ced Benson down the David Harris-less throats of the Jets defense and wear them down). Cardinals over the Packers (Only because I do not want to have to deal with the Favre drama that would be renewed by a Packers win) Cowboys over the Eagles (only because I want Dallas to suffer the consequences of being a top 8 team when the league goes uncapped.) ShadowedFlames
Will expand on this later when I'm at a computer and more awake. Jets, Packers, Eagles, and if I didn't go with my home team (Ravens), I should be disowned. However, we have been suspect against the pass all season. I can see the Ravens winning, but it's by less than 6, Brady still goes for about 325 with his ribs and no Welker (Moss/Watson/RBs pick up the slack), and Ray Rice goes for 195 yards from scrimmage. machinesxe
Miles Austin is simply too brilliant to stop.Seriously correct me if I am wrong but as a Giants fan I think our secondary sucks...Most would agree if we take of the big blue sunglasses. Miles Austin never did anything to that horrible LB/CB/S group....Just saying...flash bang boom...Miles who? I dunno why. If the Giants weren't gutless, if they had any pride whatsoever, they'd be in the playoffs. But they are, they don't, and they're not. *shrug*Now that's just horrible. I mean to slam the team that you couldn't beat once this year. I mean you are the same team that has Captin Tony Homo and Bile Austin on his team. Seriously the cowboys suck and once the Eagles beat them when it matters we can say you have won a play off game in 14 years....Good streak, I have the up most confidence your team can keep it alive. Also just to point out Remianen and all other Cowboys fans are the perfect example why the Eagles are the lesser of two evils for us Giants fans. chris caulfield
Philadelphia vs. Dallas Last week when Dallas destroyed the Eagles the Eagles were actually trying to get the win before it was out of sight. Dallas are on an unusual hot streak near the end of the season and I think they will keep it up with a big win here. NY Jets vs. Bengals The Bengals offence will stand no chance against this Jets defence as the only real recieving threat is Ochocinco and he's going to be stranded on Revis island for this came so don't expect much from him. And then you can't expect much from Benson & Johnson as the Jets have the #1 run defence in the league. All the Jets need to do to win is get Mark Sanchez to keep old of the ball and not turn it over and let Thomas Jones do most of the work. Ravens vs. Patriots Yes I am abit biased as I am a Pats fan but that also means I will know abit more about them then most non-Pats fans. People say Brady isn't 100% but the last full game he played he shredded the Jags defence and finished with 4 TD passes. Welker is out but I am a big fan on Edelman and think he can shoulder most of the load against a weak Raens secondry, though they will need Watson, Aiken and the running game to step up. The Pats defence will not pressure Joe Flacco as they have struggled rushing the passer all year and the Ravens have two great tackles in Gaither and Oher. That won't matter too much though as the Pats secondry is getting better every week it seems and the Ravens recieving corps is pretty bad for a playoff team. Ray Rice will be the key to the Ravens success as if the Patriots defence could stop him then they will win and I think they can with Mayo at full health now and Wilfork and Warren both set to return. Packers vs. Cardinals This one is a tossup in my opinion and could go either way as both have a great QB both have decent running games and both have good recieving corps. So I believe this will come down to defence and maybe special teams. I think the Packers will step up on defence just abit more then Arizona as there great secondry greatly hampers Arizona's offence. Imarevenant
Let's rate the coaches in the Playoffs: 2. Norv Turner HAHAHAHAHAHA Norv Turner is a dud of a head coach. Great OC, but he's clueless as the head coach. He'll show himself to be a non-factor in the playoffs again, as he always does. And second, the Giants did pull a no show against Carolina when their playoff hopes were on the line. That's not talking smack or anything that's just facts. Let's go Eagles...Win it when it matters just like them Giants did! Um, hi. I'm not a Cowboys fan. More than anything else, I'm a football fan and teams playing with no pride offends me. But specifically, I'm a Broncos fan (and yes, the second half of the season my team had makes me sick too). And let's not mention how we whooped the Giants ass, okay? Most of the teams currently in the playoffs, we played and either beat or played really tough. The Giants, despite having a roster STACKED with talent (most of their backup D-linemen could START for midtier playoff teams), with an emergent talent at receiver (Steve Smith could be Brandon Marshall quality, easily), went out and lost by 20 or more points, 3 times "down the stretch" including being blown the hell off the field twice in a row. I'm quite familiar with teams laying eggs (case in point: Broncos-Chiefs, last game of the season with a playoff spot on the line) but not with that roster and not twice in a row. Dude...did you actually read his post? Does he sound like a Cowboys fan to you? I actually got the impression that he's a Giants fan who's disgruntled with his team's poor finish. But whether that's true or not, I can say for sure that he's not a Cowboy's fan. Oh, that's just Giants fan fervor. heh, I'm neither a Giants fan nor a Cowboys fan. I think Bill Sheridan deserved to be fired/let go because he was awful schematically given the talent at his disposal. I think the Giants moved away from their strengths (running the ball and defense spurred by a smothering pass rush) and paid dearly for it.
