I was thinking today about the nWo when it was starting I was in full mark stage like when it FIRST started I thought it was real. I was 13 at the time and had never been to an internet wrestling site.

Who did everyone here think the third guy was going to be? For anyone on the net at the time was there any leaks that it was Hogan ahead of time?

I wasn't on the net at the time, so I was just guessing based on who the first 2 were. I was also a kid at the time, so despite knowing it was not real, still hung on every part of the story like it was.

Here's my thought process back then:

Nash + Hall = Two huge WWF names.

Third Guy must be a big WWF name.

Third Guy = Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels.

Now, of course I was wrong, as I really didn't know much about who could show up where, etc. But I think the logic made sense for someone who was a mark at the time.

I also don't think it was leaked. I'm not sure, but I think they managed to keep it under wraps.

Though I know it wasn't real (never had the phase where I thought it was real as a kid I asked too many questions for my dad ever to let that happen) I remember having no idea who it could be. When it turned out to be Hogan I was happy and cheering my favorite wrestler when I first got into wrestling was now teamed up with my favorite wrestlers at that time.

I thought it was Bret Hart. I missed the episode they revealed their names to be Hall and Nash. I thought to myself "what the heck kind of wrestling names are Hall and Nash". I knew it was fake but I didn't know HOW it was fake. I remember watching a Chris Jericho match and thinking "if its fake then how do they decide who wins and loses". Its funny because its basically the same thing I did with my toys as a kid. I picked who I wanted to win and had my two wrestlers, or gi joes, or stuff animals or whatever else cut promos on each other and then I'd have my picked winner win. Who knew it was so simple.

This is not so much of a comment on this topic but a what if sort of deal. I was thinking what if WCW was still around today and the WWF were the one to go bankrupt (They were in pretty bad shape back in 1997, which was part of the reason for the Montreal Screwjob.). What would WCW's roster look like today?

It would probly be like TNA's roster with maybe The Rock, Austin and some of the younger guys in WWE today like Orton, Kofi, Cody Rhodes, Dibase and more. I think if this happened there would be no TNA and instead there would be a new fed with posibly Triple H who in 97 was not so big so never caught on and the fed is probly stuck at cult or so with some known guys like HBK, Syxx, and some bigger brawlers. Vince puts his money into a new bussiness known as Mixed Martial Arts and the company UFC witch leads to UFC being very well known with promos from the workers during the PPV.

I liked the dungen of Doom story line with The Giant playing as Andre The Giants son and trying it end Hulkamania

Oh god, was that around the time when The Giant ran over Hulk's harley with a monster truck? Crazy, wrestling needs to bring back monster trucks.

Also I liked how The Giant being Andre's son was referenced later, I think Scott Hall asked if Andre was really his dad or something. It was amusing.

Also I was watching some WCW from I think it was 1995 recently and it had the craziest promo ever in it, I wish it was on youtube but I couldn't find it.

It started off with a black guy wearing all white who I think was on rollerskates and was wearing some kind of giant hat/turban thing playing guitar and singing about Hogan being on the darkside or something. Then we see Hogan and Savage are sitting around near Venice Beach with a hobo sitting in between their legs and they just ramble while the hobo keeps interupting them in the weirdest voice in the world. Savage tells Hogan that Sullivan took his moustache and Hogan looks really hurt and tries to cover his top lip. The whole thing makes very little sense then ends once more with the black guy singing.

I miss that level of weirdness in wrestling.

I enjoyed the "Invasion" angle lol there I said it I enjoyed it!!!!!

I hated the Invasion angle with an absolute passion. THe ironic thing on the angle was Vince McMahon's comment on the last Nitro (the simulcast with RAW), how they had the ability to make WCW wrestlers into superstars and make WCW relevant. How relevant is WCW now? No shows, no reminders, its basically dead, destroyed. What about some of their guys who were good enough to get a bit of rub? DDP becomes a counseller loser, Kanyon has a short run but then leaves, Lance Storm is made into a comic munchkin for wont of a better description, Mike Awesome really goes nowhere...

Hated it :D

As above on the Giant/Andre thing... When the Giant was in the nWo, he said off cuff something about being Andre's son, and the Giant flicked him a look like don't ever go there.

I thought it was Bret Hart. Wasn't that during the time he left WWE for a bit while trying to get a new contract.

I loved WCW. I wasnt a WWF fan back in the day but watched it regardless just because it was wrestling lol

I enjoyed WCW more than I should of just cus I didnt know or cared about what happend "Behind the scenes"

I loved "Lionheart" Chris Jericho, Loved his feud with Greenbe.. Opps I mean Goldberg lol Best part was when he tried to do Goldbergs entrence and insted of Goldbergs pyros he just got these little pops and puffs and the look on jerichos face and the reaction he gave just made it so good and funny to watch lol

It was funny back in the day, I was always a WWF fan and then I remember watching some matches with my grandpa on Saturday night and the ring looked weird. I was so used to watching shows like SNME, that WCW blew me away. (by the way, I was like 6 at the time, I also found it weird that the Bengals had a bizarro team that wore white jerseys instead of black.)

Even though WCW was always there, to me it always played 2nd fiddle. Maybe because by the time Hulkamania was runnin' wild in WCW, I was on to Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon. The (beginning) nWo was maybe the only time that I cared more about WCW.

Then I became a 14-year-old and DX, Val Venis, and all that became the best thing ever!

I blame myself for WCW failing. The only matches I ever remember from Nitro where the 6-man lucha tag matches, because I didn't have a clue what was going on, but it was just tooo sweeeeet!

Yeah in my opinion that was the best part of his career that I saw. Everything he did back then was just great. All though I do have to say I love his character now but just not as much as I did when he was in WCW.

I was a giant wcw fan. I always watched the first showing of nitro and then i watche raw after it....the joys of living on the west coast lol. I don't think there was anything untill the post nwo stuff that i did not like from wcw. I loved the black scorpion stuff *although i was a kid*......i loved roma as a horseman *again still young*......i loved the dungen of doom.......i watches saturday night main event each week waiting for a new member lol. I started to turn on it when they had the deamon.....the nwo silver and grey.......and the lwo *although i have to admit i liked it a little bit*. Jericho was classic back then. His spinal tap paridy might be his best stuff ever.

While that would have made a lot of sense, their Plan B in case Hogan backed out on the idea at the last second was Sting.

Actually, I believe Sting was plan A - but when Hogan heard about it, he convinced Bischoff that he should be the leader instead.

I'm really glad they didn't have Sting as the leader... being my favourite wrestler, it would have broken my heart to see him go "evil" back then. :D

Bischoff says in his book he asked Sting to be his "back-up" guy for the third man. Sting wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea because he loved being a face but he said he'd do it if they needed him. Bischoff wasn't thrilled with the idea either because he wanted the third man to be truthly shocking. When the angle began to get really over Hogan (who'd he'd asked to turn heel a few months ago and was basically told F*ck off) called him up and asked who the third man was going to be. Easy E said he didn't even know yet...Hulk said he did...him :). The rest is history.

Its funny this thread was made. As just yesterday I was looking at the WWE roster and making a list of guys who wrestled in WCW. Suprisingly short:

* Big Show (as The Giant)

* Chavo Guerrero (Jr.)

* Triple H (as Tera Ryzing and Jean-Paul Levesque)

* Chris Jericho

* (Fit) Finlay

* Jimmy Wang Yang (sans Wang)

* Rey Mysterio (Jr.)

* The Undertaler (as Mean Mark Callous)

* Goldust (as Dustin Rhodes)

* The Hurricane (as Shane Helms)

* William Regal (as Steven Regal)

* Jim Ross

* Theodore Long

Of course I didnt count agents. Would be interesting to see a WCW One Night Stand PPV. That said, what do others think that card would be? One could assume SOME former stars would come back for a one-off like Masato Tanaka for ECW ONS. But I'm going to try to be realistic about mine, as if the PPV was held this Sunday.

WCW One Night Stand

The Giant vs. Chris Jericho

-Run an angle where Show turns face on Jericho

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero

-The only other match that would make sense is Jericho vs. Mysterio in the main event, but that leaves Giant without someone to wrestle.

Shane Helms vs. Jimmy Yang

- I guess?

Finlay vs. Steven Regal

- I'd love this match

Dustin Rhodes vs. Sid Vicious

- This would be a good way to set up Sid back in WWE full time as well, which I feel may happen.

"The Future" Battle Royal: Joe Hennig vs. Richie Steamboat vs. Bo Rotundo vs. Duke Rotundo vs. Cody Rhodes vs. David Hart Smith vs. Meng Jr (Donny Marlow)

- Gotta fill time somehow. All these guys fathers appeared in WCW at one point.

Of course the entire event would be announced by Jim Ross and "If You Whilllll" Dusty Rhodes, and one could assume a comedy angle between Theodore Long and Norman Smiley to fill time.

Great idea in theory but I would never pay for that card. :p

If they could somehow get the TNA guys and WWE guys together you could put together a monster nostalgia card.
