Coming Soon: Grunge 2!

Recommended Posts

I'm excited to announce the Grunge mod is making it's way to 2010. Since 2010 uses pretty much the same screens, most of the work has already been completed. This will allow me to focus on completing custom graphics for all items in the game. Have a look!

You will notice a much simpler taskbar. I decided to go with this at least for the first release. I personally feel like it works better with this skin, but depending on the reception, I may or may not create one with icons. I appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Nice work. I will say I don't like the color of the B in the ratings...I feel like the stat area should pop and stand out personally. Its all good though, I could just use the default letter grades like before. :)

Actually, you're right, B is a little dull. I'll have that improved by release.

Having just downloaded the Grunge for 2008, I can say that I really enjoy the skin for 2008 but also the simple buttons implemented here as opposed to just pictures. Would def love a mixture of the two made for 2008, though I may end up doing that for myself at some point.

The main thing I'd suggest before you get too deep into Grunge 2, is looking to see about replacing the font used for general buttons with something that is a little easier on the eye. It's not always apparent, but for the buttons with more characters in them it can get a little tough to read on a high resolution, seeing as the font gets squished in.

I loved the images you did in Grunge 1, and I would like to see them make a comeback, or something similar to them. Images require less mental effort to process than writing (once the connection to what they represent has been established, anyway), and they also provide a nice break from what is essentially a game already littered with text everywhere else.

Other thoughts, not sure what you're doing for the letter grades, but I, personally, would prefer that it's not a different shade for each grade variation (eg. in the 06 default it was A+ bright green, A green, A- darker green). I don't feel as though the different shades aid recognition, and can acts as more of an assault on the eyes if anything.

Lastly, the buttons for Alter [insert thing here] or Gimmick Change Set.. I wonder if they would look nice with an faint image underneath the text? (like an opaque megaphone underneath the manager button).

This is just me being pedantic though. This, as it is, would still beat the pants off the default screens for me

Bringing the pictures used in the original Grunge skin would be good as I DO like those, and some good ideas on having text be more simple with the buttons and having the letter grades all one color.

So for the letter grades, are you suggesting just one shade for all? I do like that idea, it may actually be easier to read.

Ok, cool, I'll definitely try that out.

I'm not sure if I will be doing the standard buttons over, I don't have my original psd's anymore so that would be a heck of a long task in re-doing all of them. But we'll see how it goes once everything else is done. I'll probably do a separate taskbar mod with pictures, maybe try a little something different. I'll also play around with the alter buttons and see how that goes. If it doesn't work, do those still look good?

Well I was thinking say one colour for A-, A, A+

Another colour for B-, B, B+

and so forth

But now you mention it, one color for all may work even better. I'd experiment myself, but I have my own color scheme nightmares going on in photoshop right now :p

If it doesn't work, do those still look good?

Hell yeah they work. The solid black just makes them a little plain, which is why I suggested something subtle underneath the text. But if it doesn't work I'd still be happy clicking them :p One question though, is there a reason why the gimmick button is a different color and doesn't say "alter" like the rest? Just curious

If you want Stu, I could take a crack at either:

a) turning the buttons from the TEW2008 Grunge Skin into PSDs with some brush/delete work, or

b) try to take the current taskbars you have and implementing the old button graphics into it somehow with some effect work

If you WERE to keep the current Alter/etc buttons as text, Id just suggest changing the font to something more in line with the rest of the text buttons along the top or bottom to make it easier on the eyes. Colorwise I think it is good.

Yes, that is showing that a gimmick change is set. That particular button is actually pressed in. When it's not in use it says "alter" like the others.
